DANNY DANKO: LIVE FROM B.C.

Stalking the elusive wild cannabis of Vancouver Island

-
After a weekend spent stalking the elusive wild cannabis of Vancouver Island, your intrepid cultivation reporters have finally arrived to a place called civilization. Our brief stop allows us the opportunity to post some of the photos we've acquired and release the info on harvest time in beautiful British Columbia. Canadians work long and hard all spring and summer to get their plants out into the bush and keep them happy with water and nutrients that provide nourishment through the sometimes harsh seasons. This one in particular has been rainy and chilly, making for some stunted growth. Growers have expressed their frustrations with the weather yet still the pot is growing here in record numbers.

The West Coast of Canada has had a flourishing ganja growing community for many years now and I'm told that some of the genetics date back to soldiers who returned from the Korean War in the late 1950's. That's alot of time for breeding better buds and the growers of BC have been refining and selecting their plants for years to resist mold, insects and other blights. The weather here can be a challenge for pot growers but it's also inspiration for those who choose to improve the gene pool.

We've met seed breeders here who's unique and interesting strains can withstand the harshest of climates and still mature properly. Jay from Next Generation Seed Company tells us that their pot varieties are specifically bred and tested for tough living, which works out fine for indoor and outdoor growers around the world who choose to grow these potent and hardy strains. Varieties such as Romulan, Bonkers and 2007 Top Ten Strain winner, Blue Dynamite ensure that Next Generation will continue to thrive in the seed scene.

We also spoke to the proprietors of Vancouver Island Seed Company about the years of breeding that they've done to refine their super arsenal of strains. From the original Burmese to the legendary Fucking Incredible, the pot varieties this kind couple curates have been keeping the whole West Coast happy for decades.

That's all for now, we're off to head back into the bush to find out more about the gardens that provide the pot for Canadians and Americans alike to share and find common ground. To be continued...
