By Haley Roll

Ever since 2002 the University of Central Florida in Orlando has boasted the largest chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) in the nation. My name is Haley Roll and I am a junior at UCF majoring in Communications. Ever since I learned about NORML – in high school – I’ve wanted to be a part of it. At the beginning of the fall semester, even though it was only my third meeting, I gave a speech asking for votes to be Director of Public Relations. I don’t think I would have been able to pull it off if I wasn’t so passionate about NORML and what it stands for. I am now happy to announce that I’ve been elected DPR and I can’t explain how privileged I feel.

Last year NORML UCF had 70 paying members and this year we have exceeded that number and we’re still growing. This past semester has been a joy working with some talented activists that are motivated to change the system. This blog will inform everyone what my fellow NORML members and I are doing around campus and in the community, especially when it comes to working on marijuana law reform in the Sunshine State.

These activists are an attentive and motivated group. Every meeting seats between 50 and 80 students and when a sign-up sheet for a committee or event is passed around it is quickly filled up. It’s a great vibe when I walk in the room and I always walk away with a huge smile on my face.

I believe this new semester is going to be full of amazing opportunities for everyone that is a part of NORML at UCF. I really think that we can make a difference in Florida and I will be keeping you updated on everything we do – from meetings to petitions to events. You will also get to hear from some of my fellow members. This blog will be the perfect way to introduce some of our honorable members that are continuously doing their part to make a difference in the war against marijuana.
