MS Patient Gets 5 Years For Medical Marijuana

" A New Jersey man with multiple sclerosis was sentenced Friday to five years in prison for growing marijuana -- which he said was for medicinal purposes -- in his back yard."

This is not going to be a long blog post; it is not a complex issue.

There is a certain level of human decency that is ingrained in all of us (except serial killers and nutjobs).

A man grows marijuana in his back yard because he's poor, and it relieved a debilitating disease he suffered with every day. He broke the law, he got caught, and the minimum sentence he could receive is 5 years in the state of New Jersey.

Now we are outraged, and will rail against whoever we can that the law must be changed. But the damage is done. Until we have eradicated the menace of marijuana prohibition, already suffering people will be forced to suffer more, and the authorities will shrug and move on to the next victim.

We will stand no more.

In an interesting coincidence, Craig Coffey of High Times pointed out this news story about GW Pharmicuticals creating a MS drug derived from cannabis.

If you can't use marijuana for "medical" purposes, either, you might as well stop even pretending like it is "legal". This case could go both ways, but the law on this can only go one; LEGALIZE BUD!

Sending sick people to prison for trying to grow medicine that works better than the shit they cook up in laboritories? FIRST, the folks who decided this guilt and punishment are heartless fuckin' morons (including the court itself). Honorable, my ass! SECOND, while they're pushing this poor man through the front door of the prison for medical marijuana, they're releasing some gang member out the back. Who is the more dangerous of the two? A guy with MS smoking a joint, or a gang member handing a crack pipe to our kids (with free samples, of course)? I hate our legal system!!
