For the newbies that don't understand what's going on.... there's a certain dude who posts almost all the hate on this site telling people the Cup is a "ripoff." Truth is, the cultivation seminars alone are well worth the price of admission. Forget about five nights of world class bands and performers, free event t-shirt, free program guide, private bus shuttles and all the schwag the shops give judges. Does it help to know this hater runs his own (poorly attended) imitation Cannabis Cup at a different time of the year? And he can't stand the fact that his event attracts no one while ours brings people from all corners of the globe? Check out the price of a cultivation class at Oaksterdam, and then realize that many of the top growers of the world will be giving classes every day at the expo. Do you want to rub shoulders with the world's biggest pot stars? Then come to the Cup.

Sorry Captn Sensible, I'm not a young kid with stars in my eyes. I'm 55 and I'm there promoting the Extreme Art form that I make my living at and enjoy one of the great cities of the world and it's culture. It just happens that they have good weed there too. Of course there is better and I'm smoking it here but you can't put down the coffeeshops and the people that have worked to build up their businesses because of a mass exodus of people around the world going there just for the smoke. This city is very intriguing and I could and do wander the streets and canals just looking at the structures and always the people. What a great place for people watching. Sorry to disappoint you by being just a regular person that has a cool job that lets me go anywhere on the planet and play. Hopefully this trip introduces me to the governing officials that can bring my dream to reality to carve some of the standing stumps of trees throughout the city in the Vondel Park, Artis Zoo and the park between Van Gogh and Rijkis Museums. There is a method to my madness. I'll be that quiet respectful person covered in sawdust coming home to my apartment in the Jordan each day from Laage Vursche carving in the forest there. Just wanting to clean up go out in the city and be impressed with life in Amsterdam. No regrets of the cost or the people I meet, it's all good. Have a pleasant day and I hope you find a way to deal with your venomous attacks on the Americans. Maybe I'm the one you should of met instead of whom ever tripped your trigger about the way we all are. As for me donating to the Cup the winners for the past couple years were very generous after meeting me and understanding that I do this on my own with out any help from the event. The help I do receive there is from my carving family which covers most parts of the planet, the local carvers of Holland and Husqvarna Holland LTD. have been very supportive and loaned me the gear to do what I do while I'm there. Captn, have a wonderful day and ease up a little; enjoy life.

If you dont act like a loud , obnoxious american then things are pretty cool. You've already been fucked paying for your ' judges ' pass and expectation to shell out 15E + a gram for smokes in overcrowded coffeeshops. If you accept the fact that most Amsterdamer's dislike dope tourists and that you are getting royally shafted , then its still possible to have fun.

I HOPE THE JUDGING AND DETERMINING FACTORS FOR THE WINNERS AND OTHER COMPETETORS ARE BETTER DESCRIBED IN THE FOLLOWING WEEKS AND MONTHS OF HIGH TIMES.
THE STRAINS TESTED ARE THEY ALL STABLE GENETICS? OR ARE THEY JUST FAVORED PHENOTYPES BROUGHT ABOUT BY INBREEDING AND RECROSSING MORE STABLE LAND RACE GENETICS AND THESE POTENT VARIENTS THAT CROP UP EVERY NOW AND AGAIN ALL BY THEMSELVES?
I'VE BEEN GROWING FOR YEARS AND SOME OF THESE VARIETIES ARE NOT VERY STABLE OUTSIDE OF THE GROWROOM OR THE PERFECT OUTDOOR ENVIROMENT FOR THEM. THEY WILL REVERT TO A MORE NON DRUG TYPE FORM EVENTUALLY., I HAVE SEEN THIS UNLESS YOU INTRODUCE FRESH GENETICS OFTEN ENOUGH TO YOUR NORTHERN LATITIUDE HOMELAND BRED MARIJUANAS.
UNLESS OF COURSE YOU HAPPEN TO LIVE IN THE COUNTRIES WHERE THIS PLANT IS MEANT TO GROW AND EXACTLY WHERE IT IS MEANT TO GROW YOU MAY SEE THE CHANGES BROUGHT ABOUT BY ENVIROMENTAL EFFECT ON THE EXPRESSION OF GENES IN THIS PLANT.
I DO LOOK FORWARD TO THIS AS MANY NEW BREEDS AND VARIETIES HAVE BEEN BROUGHT TO MARKETS EVERYWHERE.,AND IT GIVES GUYS LIKE ME FRESH GENETIC MATIERIAL TO MIX IN WITH THE OLD SCHOOL SHIT WE HAVE HERE AT THE lab!!!!!!! BWAAHAHAHA!!! MORE GENES!!! WE NEED YOUR GENES!!!! IT'S ALIVE!!!!!
IT'S GREEN!!!!!! IT'S THE NEWEST STRAIN IN TOWN!!!!!
GROW YOUR OWN., FREE YOUR MIND., FREE THE PLANET!!!!

Hi Mr Realist. I'm from Europe and will be joining all my international buddies for the cup..

I cant see how the best coffee-shops offering the finest bud is a scam but each to their own.

Oh and the expos and concerts are going to be great. You need a pass to get to do all these things the week of the cup so i take it we wont be seeing you around? :D

Dont want to burst another deluded hippie's head but ffs Madman, you are another insignificant american that comes to Ams. once a year ( like , wow ), thinks that they are in some way participating in a big counter cultural vibe by spending over the odds and smoking very average weed....then, without any irony , tells us he's carving a ' larger than life ' Bob Marley bust to give to the ' fortunate (sic) winner ' . That's staggeringly original . Bet you're the white guy with dreads, huh ? And guess what.....the arjans, derrys and somas fuck your arse, yearly.
No wonder we laugh.

Nice to see that new shops are getting involved. We don't have the pleasures of wondering an ancient city with a place to order off a menu just what we would like to smoke here in the US. So we get to escape to Holland once a year and sample some of the best in the world. They just legalized the Medical smoke here in Michigan and that has certainly brought a lot of growers out of the woodwork and the strains are popping up everywhere. But Amsterdam is a whole different story for each of us that has the opportunity to go. I myself love to smoke and it is such a freedom to be included in this culture of The Netherlands. I just hope that some of the rude and obnoxious don't ruin it for the rest of the laidback and mellow burners. I come there each year to share my extreme art form by presenting a sculpture I carve while there to whom ever wins the Cup. I get to hang out with chainsaw sculptors from all over the country that gather in a forest south of the city, called Laage Vurrsche demonstrating this art form and just having fun sharing with each other. I'm glad there is a place on the planet where we can be comfortable as we partake in the use of one of Mother Nature's products. This year I hopefully get to carve a larger than life Bob Marley bust for the fortunate winner of the Cup, with the help of my good friends there in The Netherlands. Every one have fun and repect each other and of course our host The Netherlands. Thank you Amsterdam for being you.

Mr Realist.
