There was a special vibe surrounding the ceremonies this Thanksgiving as the highest honors in the cannabis community were handed out at the 20th Anniversary HIGH TIMES Cannabis Cup.

With record crowds in attendance and the judges votes tallied, the winners took the stage to accept the holy grail of marijuana cultivation.

i never been in amsterdam, im from lisbon, and bairro alto its like amsterdam anyways, by what they told me, can smoke and trip out anywhere, anyways so, if i would like to visit amsterdam would had been in the 90s, or 80s, or even before, not now... no way, lots of stupid kids, that dont understand the drugs they take, that dont know how to behave or
get violent and stupid, that whole morron hiphopgangsta shit scene is fucking everything, everybody is behaving like they are black and dumb, and fill very proud by being so... thats just sad, when i was a kid, we learned from elders, things about life, politics, undergroundmusic alternative ways of life, religions, spirituality travelling, at least we read books, a sense of revolution, that we were going somewhere, meeting people from different countrys, in a closed europe was so cool, europe was closed so people from norway, germany or england got together and even if we didnt talk the same language people connect right away, morroco shit was in the wind, and i remenber people shared their food drugs then got on their way, everybody is so closed and uptight nowdays, if you start talking to someone, and you dont drees right or dont come from right place or speak the wrong language they look at you like you are inferior,dont even talk to you... the weed they sell in holland is all crap,from crop selling hybrids, that have been so long in the cold weather the next generations will need 600wtts lamps even if theres sun for 15 hrs a day... pure sativas with 8%thc, high just goes along with the place...kids cant handle drugs, empty people, i dont even get out nowadays, theres always some stupid kid that was something to prove and theres always violence, no fun anymore...if i travelled i would go to where these kids arent going, morocco, india cambodia laos, people are pure there, no bullshit, just like it was everywhere...

Sooo I just booked my trip to Amsterdam for Nov 27th-Dec15th yes im going after the cup to try the winner and have a nice stay lol i was sgoing to book threw apothecary but surprisingly apothecary travel had very good concepts, but VERYYYY expensive, they were asking 2300 for a one week stay per person! Where on the other hand, me booking my trip for a 18day stay for 2 people only came out to be 3000, hmmmmm makes you wonder yeah? Now what is this ban i been hearing about? Is it only for tobacco or what, I just hope i didnt choose to go at the wrong time. any help will be appreciated.

Cannabis girl i definitely remember the crowding of buses leaving the power zone. I remember one of the couple of buddy babes at the cup screaming let us the fuck off as the driver was wanting to wait to unload until he got to the front of the powerzone. However, I have to say the one time I caught a greenhouse van back to their shop from the powerzone was the best.

I have been to the last 4 cups and nothing has matched the atmosphere and crowd exuberance of the 17th cup opening ceremonies i thought a larger venue that was not so crowded would be better but it totally ruined the atmosphere. Move the venue back to the melkweg and see if you can recapture its soul . The blogs after that cup lacked the bitching and infighting that has cropped up this time. Let us try to remember the reason we go and mellow out and just enjoy. peace and smoke to all.

The best party I've been to at the Melkweg, was one year they had a DJ spinning some good dance music. It was the best crowd there with everyone dancing and passing joints. They need to do that again. The bands last year were great, but the crowd energy was to mellow. There's nothing better than some good bud and a good beat to enjoy it by!

At least this way we can get a WARNING out there to everyone about this thieve. Apothecary Travel could not have done anything that would compare to how bad Wake And Bake Travel Sucked!

I spent hours watching the Apothecary folks greet people at the airport while we could not find our retards from Wake And Bake Travel..

Bookings.nl has them on their site, and they do offer deals if you plan in advance.
I do know people who have done Apothecary, and they say it was good value for the money paid.
I book my own travel, btw.

I can't believe how many people whine about the trip.

I almost booked my trip through Apothecary Travel. If it hadn't been for some unusual circumstances that came up I would have. They did everything in their power to get me the trip I needed. They returned my emails and Bret and his wife talked with me on the phone. They were wonderful. When I got to the early check-in on Saturday, they were running it, and everything went smoothly! If things wouldn't have gotten so convoluted I would have gone with them. Very pleasant, caring people! They are what the counter culture is all about. Nice, real people that anyone would enjoy hanging with.
As for you whiners, go punch a cop so we don't have to read your words for a couple of years! Please!!!!!!!!!

i my cousin and i booked our own trip martinair comfort class 750.00 junior apt at the 5 star krasnapolsky 10 days 1000.00 judges pass 200.00 total 1950.00 each. i had a great time with the exception of the hour or so i spent on the abstinence cruise with cs travel. all it takes is a little time on the computer and you can do it too. i have to say i have yet to hear one bad word about apothecary travel and the king of cannabis treats everyone like royalty always greets me personally and takes time to talk to everyone my favorite place to hang. ive been to the last 4 cups always booked my own trip but if you dont want the hassle and are willing to pay it seems apothecary is the only way to go im not advertising for them but just read the blog W&B and CS are out who else is left. however you go enjoy the cup and say hi to Aryan for Dave

Well I am not scared to put my real name. I went with AT and I had a great time. Let me just say that the best part of the trip was being with AT, cause the cup was lame, I thought the cup would be better than it was, it seemed like 100 people in a tent feeling! I had a blast at Green House seed company sitting with Jeanette and Bret getting my brains smoked out by Richard and Aryan and being treated like a VIP. If I had paid and just got to go to the cup I would have been very disappointed. It was nice to have he transport taken care of knowing that you had a cool driver to pick you up- Bret even sent him with a joint to give u to smoke on the way to the hotel! It is the little things that made it worth using a company. And let me tell you that Bret is working the whole time he is there practically making sure that everyone is taken care of and happy, you always see him running around getting shit done! Oh yeah and Los Marijuanos- Those cats are hella fun to kick it with, Viva Los Marijuanos!

I was sitting by myself at one of the coffeeshops and they asked me if they could sit down party with me. (Who in there right mind would say NO). I asked them where they got the Ganja Note; they told me everyone in their group has one. That way, when they were out and seen one, they knew they were with AT. They were telling me that they were partying with Pony and his boys, Blaze and Pyrx. They even had a chance to go back in the secured VIP lounge and even backstage. When Redman was on stage so was a lot of AT travelers. They hung out with the true freedom fighters like Eddy Lepp, Jack Herer (They traveled with them to). Eddy’s camera man was even filming the tour so they would have a DVD of trip. The only grief and confusion is people like you who over run their thoughts with their fingers. Well I have a finger for you! Remember they won the Breeders cup for Kaia Kush. Sounds like they had the good answers.

I keep reading these comments. You guys know what W&B did! You know what CS did. Well like some one wrote you never heard what Apothecary Travel did. This is my 2nd time going to Amsterdam and I have went with the first 2 companties. (NO TLC) Well I did some research. This will be Apothecary 5th year! I contacted the Better Business and they have never had any complaints. Listen people. If you are in this type of work and NO ONE bitched about you.. Hats off! I will be going this year and I had called and talked to Bret and the prices are at a great price right now, Soon as I get my Tax check back I am booking. I want to Party and feel like some one cares about me (Not just take my money and leave me stranded). Some one here said Bret helped a W&B couple get to there hotel. What a heart.

I am good friends with Arjan from the Greenhouse coffeeshop and seed company. I spoke to him last Tuesday. He didn't mention anything about it. He did inform us that the smoking ban goes into effect on july 1, but that only applies to tobacco.

I got an email yesterday from a friend in Amsterdam who works in the Club industry there. He heard that the Amsterdam City Council is planning on raiding this years Expo and closing it and all of the participating Coffeeshops for the week of the Cup. This news came to him from an old girl friend who works on staff for the City.
Has anyone heard about this? She made it sound like they already have a special group working on it. Someone should get in touch with a few coffeeshops and ask them.
I hope not! I was thinking of taking a few friends with me for this year!

Arjan definitely was a showman. If he was in the room, you knew it. Yeah, he's really commercial and all, but seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Granted his warez leave a little to be desired, but he really seems to love his job. Who wouldn't?

The taste was what turned me off from the GH stuff I tried. The King Hassan was the only stuff that I was impressed by taste-wise. The smaller shops definitely had better tasting buds.

I though I would wait until things calmed down before I posted my comment. This was my first time in Amsterdam. I was one of the foolish ones that went with W&B. When I came out of Arrival 2 I seen only one companty there. I want to say I am very sorry to the Angel from Apothecary, whom was there (being a smart ass as I am)I had to say some thing to her. She told me just remember A is at the begining or something like that, she also told me I would regret saying that about W&B being the best. She was right ( I did not have a room) Later in one of the Coffee shops I ran into her and some of AT traveler's. She invited us to sit down and party with them. She is a very sweet lady and she brought out her personal stash and smoked it with every one. She just wants to see people have a good time and that she did. I enjoyed that time with her and her sons the Los Marijuanos. (GREAT MUSIC,she should be proud!!!!) well to make a long story short. APOTHECARY you will be getting a call from us, because if someone will spend time like Judy did with everyone (traveler or not) has a heart of GOLD and like she said "We are one big happy family" That still sticks with me! Why can't every one be like her.
Love one another. We would be better off!

hi, I was traveling with suzanarama and everything she said about Brett, Jeanette and Judi is more than true, Brett was great getting us from the airport into the hotel. After 16+ hours in airplane/port hell and 1st timers to Europe it was really great to have Judi settle us in for a few hours, with her smoke and buying all the drinks too! Brett really cut us a deal and beat out cs tours after I told him about stopping payment at wake and bake just before they cashed the check. We really got vip treatment and rides to the concerts, also got to meet Eddy Lepp and Jack Herrer, actually sitting next to em while hightimes was getting an interveiw. We were there when ht took pics of the Kia Kush in the cup at the Greenhouse centrum and the Kia in the cup pic was what we had left, how cool our weed in the cc. Nothing quite like traveling with a cannibis cup winner, Jeanette even got us High times cup hoodies not just the t shirts, yea we didn`t get the pipes yet but Jeanette said she would try to get them for us. I am more than able to book the trip myself and handle getting around without a travel co this year, but I will go through apothecary again just cause they treated us really right and are great people, Hi Guys !

Add me to the list of people who were very satisfied with Apothecary Travel. Brett picked us up from the airport, bought me a drink, and had a van ready to take us to our hotel, complete with local lunatic driver and some pretty good hash. He checked us in; we didn't have to do a thing. Then he passed us on to his assistant, who took us to the Greenhouse and smoked us out with her own personal stash. We REALLY needed that--that alone made it worth booking the trip through an agency. Brett also gave us some Kaia Kush & Grape Ape... it was really nice to have stuff that not a lot of other people could get.

Only problem was just a little one: the pipes we were promised were not delivered. But I'm still hoping we'll get them some day. If not, no biggie...I'd book with Apothecary again.

I bought seeds from the Greenhouse,Strawberry Haze...and got 2 out of 5 to come up..i bought some Hog seeds from THSeeds i got 3 out of ten up that look female..i bought 10 BubbleGum seeds and got 5 female looking plants..the as a judge they gave us 5 G-13 Haze seeds and got 2 out of 5 of those up and both look female..so i guess i had good luck so far compared to you MadMan..

I got an email from a lawyer friend in Belgium, who works in both Belgium and The Netherlands. He was at the Dutch parliament last week and got some news that there is a big push getting ready to start, to get the Cannabis Cup canceled for the future. I had heard this from my favorite coffeeshops owner when I was there for the cup. They were very worried, with all the closures happening around the country.
My friend didn't give many details, since the people discussing it were enjoying it as a laugh and he didn't want to sound too interested.
We should send emails to the government to express our thanks and appreciation regarding the event and how much we enjoy it there!

Just to weigh in with a third-party remark:
I book my own flights, rooms, etc, and yes it is cheaper if you know how to do it, and do it soon enough.
I also know people who booked thru Apothecary a couple times and they never had a problem and were very happy, well-treated, and will do it again.

i, too, booked my own trip to amsterdam for the 20th cannabis cup, and i can tell you that i bought my judges pass online and when i went to amnesia on that saturday before the opening ceremonies to get my pass, it was not hours, but it took less than five minutes to get my pass. so i know you're trying to sell your travel services, but please do not spread misinformation.

I love the we are getting 3000 a day orders for passes lol. Ive been generous on reckoning a 1,000 attendee's given the floorspace & the busing arragnements. Two 50 seaters at one journey each way per hour gives 800 journeys back & forth over the eight hours. The busses weren't exactly jumping to move but if they had been they could have pulled of a few more journeys.

I really just passed by while reading about another announcement so happy to leave you with the 3000, better check the Melkweg fire regs allows for that number or next year you'll have folk beatchin how they enjoyed Moe from outside.

How much is a ticket to the Super Bowl? Several thousand dollars. In fact, the parking fee at the stadium costs more than a Cannabis Cup pass. And do they give you a free t-shirt, free program guide, free transportation, and free beer at the stadium? The Cannabis Cup is the super bowl of pot. All the best breeders in the world attend. You can stand next to some of the world's biggest pot super stars. If you don't like the event, don't come. But also realize that two or three trolls come to this site every day to post negative comments under different names. We are already selling lots of passes to happy Cup attendees who plan to return this year. Yes, we had some problems with a new travel agent last year. We will do a better job of screening the travel agents this year. Think about it, who would have an agenda to blast High Times with negativity day after day? If you don't like the Cup, please stay away. You will never like it. But if you want to spend five days and nights in Amsterdam with 3,000 others sampling new pot strains and seeing some great bands and attending cultivation seminars by the best breeders in the world, then maybe the Cup is for you.

Slight Adendum

There has been a lot of posts supporting travel by Apothecary. Not advertising on there behalf but have to admit there travelers were looked after throughout all the delays. Suggests to me if its a place you can visit anytime organise your own but if it is a large cost one off that your hoping to have long term good memories off its worth considering a tour company that actually has a reputation of doing its job.

Nugs & Slighted have it bang on. A'dam is excellent coffeshops & seed dealers will give you a blast just don't bother with the pass buy a day voting pass if you must & pay to get into the gigs you want at the actual time they start. You will end up with a better front row position than the full judges who have drifted off from getting bored.

HT could not organise a piss up in a brewery.

And th Expo.... HA. no luck there either.. and the task of just getting there.... a whole nother story.

I was really pissed to find this out! Convention center sucked only DNA and Kiwi Seeds hooked up free samples! Buddha was a douche bag, Soma was selling his stash..call him a drug dealer now, cause his seeds are LAME!)

1st time to the cup and the dam,alaska still has the best herb,there was nothing close to what we do up here.I booked my trip myself and all was great I stayed at a quiet hotel 20 minutes from the CS,The moroccans were out in full force looking to scam and rip people off. too bad for the one I socked,DONT MESS WITH ALASKANS,EVER!!,Anyway I met some great people at cafe Roos in de pijp.better than the smoke shops,there was a few near my hotel that the people were cool,I might go back next year,maybe bring samples of some great stuff,The bus had much to be described but all in all was a decent expierence.Thanks HIGHTIMES,Also thanks Tommy Chong for taking a photo with me OUTSIDE THE ZONE,You were kinda in a shitty mood but still cool thanks again. There will also be a EUropean version & as microscrap found out companies from outside the EU operating in the EU can be held to EU regulations.

However there should also be a US version as I have seen insurance for package travel agencies to cover them for there liabilities under US contract law. Try talking to a lawyer you might find if enogh individuals were reporting it could be considered fraud.

2007 Cannabis Cup was the best experience I had since I lost my virginity. The herbal experience was the best and everyone at the expo were uncanny. I can not wait to return in 2008, 2009, 2010 until I'm as old of dirt. I still have not clean my sweater that has the smell of haze, hash, and all of Amsterdam's delights.

I have advertised in HT for 4 years now. can you point to any complaints about my company? and WABT was only one company who failed. He advertised in a very sneaky way to make you THINK he was the official company. read it carefully. he adveretised "your official cannabis cup 'connection'. As for the active link on WABT site, WABT has to remove it.

I am not sticking up for them, I just don't want my company to be compared to his as being shady or a failure.

This would be my first trip to amsterdam for the CC 07! I ha a great timke going with apothecary travel! Everything they promised came true....Far from a shady company...the owner met me at my hotel, after his car picked us up from the airport, then proceeded to give us all our goodies packages!!!

This was my first cup and I had a great time. I didn't go through WABT or Apothecary or any other travel agency, I bought my own plane tickets (KLM has some of the prettiest female flight attendants, BTW!) - found my own place to stay and got my own Cup Judge badge the old fashioned way, I bought it direct.

My opinion is that people get their experience from the Cup from that what you put in. If you expect the trip will be bad in some way, then something happens that triggers the self-fulfilling prophecy.

But if you book the trip yourself instead of leaving it in the hands of shady travel agencies that can easily fail you, then the chances are greater that you will experience Amsterdam in a better way.

I'd be ready to save up every penny I had to go back next November. You don't need WABT to plan a trip to Amsterdam, you can do it yourself with just a little thought and planning.

Did Chad give you ANYTHING to identify you as WABT travelers? Shirt? laminate? name tag? bag? ANYTHING?!? apothecary travel did. EVERYONE, no matter what they paid, got a bag(with the apothecary travel logo on it) filled with rolling papers, glass pipe, pipe wipes, grinder, shirt, cd's from the bands they brought,and apothecary travel laminates. NOte pads with their logo on them for everyone, too. I even heard they got 2 samples of the apothecary seed company entry. The one that one, sativa cup was one sample.

Im gonna call them next year!

Did anyone buy from them and have them send them to them?
No seeds, no respnse to emails from Big Budda or BC Depot is anyone else having problems with these or other companies taking money and not delivering the product. If you want more information check out the Seattle Hempfest website. (Google it.) One cool thing I found out about is that a lot of people in the area will provide a room for people that are attending from out of town. If you are going to attend, remember to be polite to us locals and keep the city clean. You'll find that most people at the event and in the city are very kind and welcoming. Also if your going to do the hotel thing, then remember that hotel rates are cheaper in some of the outlying citys like Renton and Tukwila, but you can't beat the fact that in Seattle you can use Metro buses to go anywhere and there is always something going on Downtown. The nightlife is great in Pioneer Square! One last note: When you get to the event gates Hempfest staff will search your bags, don't freak out they are searching for weapons and alcohol. They don't care if you have herb. Hope to see you all there!

As for Law Enforcement, Initiative 75 has made arrest, investigation, and prosecution of marijuana related offenses intended for adult personal use the lowest law enforcement priority. I've seen people walk down the street past an officer while smoking a joint and the officer did nothing. The most they will do is take your stash and remind you that it is still illegal. Although I wouldn't tempt fate with them. The only time its a problem is when you are openly selling or possesing an ungodly huge amount, like pounds. The cops are actually pretty cool in Seattle and at the festival they are more concerned with crowd control than busting the thousands of cannabis enthusiasts in attendance. Most people at the festival would gladly smoke you out rather than sell it. Take warning though, I-75 is only applicable in Seattle, so any surrounding area will nail your balls to the wall if they can!

Juryforman, Hempfest is a giant two day "prot-estival" in Seattle that combines music, arts, and pro-cannabis political speakers. It's the U.S's largest pro-cannabis rally. Its also free to attend. Hempfest 2008 will be held in Seattle at beautiful Myrtle Edwards park on August 16th & 17th. While you won't have vendors selling bud, it isn't real hard to find in Seattle or at the festival. If you hang out near the main stage you will see people toking everywhere, especially at 4:20.

I'd have to say that the northwest US has some of the best buds ever. Not that far from L.A., Humboldt, and Oregon and right next door to B.C. as well. I fully encourage one and all the come to Seattle's Hempfest and try it all. I've never been offered so much awesome free smoke as I have at Hempfest. Also remember some of the best strains come from the Northwestern US. (ie,Northern Lights, Hashplant, Catpiss, to name a few.)

there was very little love or peace at the cup this year, some of the people at the cup, should have been at a punk rock conc. Thay where rude,crude, there was violence. Sorry to disappoint you (to 420 smoker sorry for stealing your rebuttal) but unfortunately there is a link to HT on the Quick Trading Co website. Its under Ed's links and then under magazines, took me 2 seconds to find it.

Down with the commercial entity that High Times has become, I think they should donate all their profits to NORML and other marijuana law reform groups. If reform is truly their desire then I'm sure their, what im assuming are, massive profits would do more for the reform of marijuana laws than all the talk and BS.

So I found myself in Amsterdam for the second and last cup that I will attend. I had a great time, but last year was better. I spent a lot of time trying get the money to go. I somehow thought that since last year was pretty cool, this year would be the same. Maybe it lost its spark, but I think that maybe there's a bit more to it than that.

I bought my ticket early, paying $175. I bought my plane ticket, and I saved up food and spending money. I booked my hostels at the last minute, which I wasn't too concerned about, since I was only going to be sleeping there.

The point is, that we spend so much money trying to get to go to the cup, and for what? To spend more money. It really is a tourist trap. None of the bands I had ever heard of, and I knew why after I had listened to them.

It's like, paying twice to judge the competition, because not only do we need to buy the right to vote on strains that don't even deserve a title, but we have to pay for them too. All-in-all, you can expect to pay 500euro to smoke crappy pot, not including other expenses. The best weed in Amsterdam isn't even judged. They want your money, and we all gave it to them.

You'd be better off booking a trip to Amsterdam, off-season. You'll save money on the tickets, hostels, and not buying into the cup bullshit. You can still buy all the weed you want. remember, the internet is your friend. before you waste your money w/a fly by night rip off, do some research! we checked out the rooms they were offering in the "boss" on tripadvisor.com, and we saw real life pics from people who stayed there. no matter where you go, always check that site out to see if your accomodations will be up to par. i guess it's because i'm frugal and wanted to maximize my spending in a'dam. also, waiting for hours for someone at the airport is insane when it costs less than 10 euro round trip to get a train (which come every 15 minutes) into town. people, get on point! i guess it's because i'm 31 that i'm not going to just go w/any place unless i can't do it on my own. i guess the moral to some of you is buyer beware?

hello! my friends and i had a great time in a'dam during the cup. i have been reading comments about wabt ripping people off, and all i have to tell you people is...WAKE UP! we organized this trip ourselves for less than half of what the most expensive of theirs cost.
judges pass (early bird)-$175
round trip air fare(booked in july)-$725
apartment found online(and everything was mad love, full kitchen, smoking allowed, in the dam, etc) $1200/week (divide that by 3 people)

Go to hotel Nes and stay in the Annex. Their annex only has 4 rooms(vertical) and we smoked it out fully for the four days we were in it. Price could be better but the breakfast was awesome and the staff was very accommodating. Also the rooms had an awesome view of Amstelstraat and were right in the middle of the city! You wont regret going we had a great experience there.

Have fun man wish I was going back.

If you're going to go with a travel company, Apothecary Travel definitely has the most respect... I would either go yourself or with Apothecary.. but if you go yourself don't expect apothecary to give you a free ride from the airport... LOL, don't ask..

And whoever said you should organize another cup b/c of the criticism this one is getting.. just know, that would be so pointless and such a waste of time, you would ofcourse still get criticism no matter what. You can't please everyone. That's life.

Hi everyone. A bunch of unhappy people on here. Here is a little info for anyone wanting to go to the cup next year.

We have been in business for 4 yrs. We do our best to ensure EVERYONE on our tour is treated like family and with respect. We aligned our ocmpany with a couple of shops in A-dam because of their character.

Arjan and the greenhouse go out of their way to see you have a nice time.

Deri and Sissy from Barneys and Amnesia also spend time and money as well to see you are treated nicely.

Its because of these shops that you are even expecting freebies. This is unusual for the Dutch. So if you got anything free, appreciate it.

It has been my own personal experience that to expect so much for nothing is disappointing. The fact that the dollar is so weak right now didn't help those on a budget.

So, this is what you can expect to get from our company. Hotel, airfare, judge pass, transportation, goody bags for each level of package (contents vary year to year)as well as our personal attention.
No matter what amount you spend on one of our packages, you are all treated with the same level of respect. Friends and family. On a budget or breaking the bank, we love you just the same!

amazing that WABT ripped people off the way they did and won't do anything about it. I couldn't even find Chad half the time, his assistant while cute always gave the I'm clueless look and smiled so it was hard to get mad at her. But the boss package at least seemed to get something. They got their bongs, their jackets, their free judges passes, and apartments which I heard were very nice. Me on the highroller package, got jack crap, same as the people on the dank package that paid less and we met one person on the dank package staying at the same hotel as us and Chad even upgraded her to the real hotel rooms at the museum hotel instead of the crappy unrenovated ones. So I paid like 200 bucks more so the dank people could stay better than me. WABT had their own booth at the cup. That was awesome when you could find them there. Where was my private parties that only WABT was having? Where was my return train ticket? We found Chad and he appologized and gave us each 10 euros to get the train ticket. That was nice, but again, rediculously disorganized. The only thing I can think of is that some people bought his crazy expensive packages and he was tending to them. And where the heck were the buddy babez that were supposed to be waking and baking with us?

go thru cstravel-we had absolutely no problems except for the shitty cup-was expecting WAY more than what we got-were told to but judge passes and we wouldn't have to buy much weed-well we had to buy 16 of the 22 entries for the cup.the shops that gave away samples obviusly were the ones that did well-piss poor and this was a bad year to try that out-massive bullshit with the jacked up prices-i can get it for those prices now at home 9000 miles away

I dont think High Times has much to say or can do, because from my understanding the travel companies pay for their advertisements to be in the mags and on the website. The only thing I can picture high times doing is removing them as an authorized cannabis cup travel company from their site and mags. I personally dont feel obligated to take legal action because I actually made it to amsterdam. I didnt receive half of the things I payed for through w&b or my money back for a night I didnt stay in amsterdam. I know many people didnt show to the hotel I stayed at so that makes me wonder if they even received their flight itinerary from w&b. if people do take this to court tho what are they supposed to say they paid to go out of the country to engage in activities that are illegal in the states and were ripped off? Quite a predicament many people are in because of this shitty travel agency. My bad peeps.

I payed for 7 days 6 nights through w&b, but arrived one day later in amsterdam because of flight complications, which I blame on the ticket whole-sale distributors they go through. So basically I paid for one night that I wasnt even there, I sent an email to mr.buddy while I was in amsterdam asking if I would be refunded that one night and another when I got back home to the states, I yet to get a response. I only ran into chad once while I was there and he was having a difficult time with the green-house effect hotel cause he hadnt paid them in full yet which I dont not understand since im sure he had more than enough funds from people who paid in full. He was also telling people they had to pay more then what they had already paid. When I checked out he still hadnt paid in full and I felt bad for the hotel. Other than going through a shitty travel company and worrying all week if id be able to check out I had a blast in amsterdam. The cup was nothing like I thought it would be and i've learned to not go during the cup but when its a warmer climate. To all those longing to go to the cannabis cup steer clear of wake and bake travel, and dont get your over inflated hopes up about the cup.

I also did not yet receive any of the promised goods from WABT. One of the reasons I chose their company over any other was the perks packages. Which I never got, and also because their link on the HT website says HT's #1 travel company. I thought that if HT endorsed them, they must be good. I have been to Amsterdam before (not for the cup) and I knew how to get around, but I was told there would be a welcome party at the airport and we waited two hours after we got off the plane for someone to come and give us a train ticket so we could go to Central Station and wait another hour for Chad to get us to the Greenhouse where we had to stay for HOURS to get our apt. I could have gotten myself everywhere, but it was included in the package, so I thought I would wait. Ugh. So my first whole day was wasted. Then we were told to come back the next day for our packages. Came back to the Greenhouse (had an awesome breakfast, Thanks guys, for picking up Chad's slack) and waited for hours to get nothing. We were told to come back the next day (another good breakfast, thanks!) and nothing. We were told to meet at Dam square where we were given the option of picking 2 out of 3 museum options, the wax museum, the dungeon (could we get any more cultural than that???) and the Van Gogh museum. So basically, we got 2 tours out the 8-10 promised. I really wanted to go on the promised pirate ship canal cruise but there was never even mention of it. I still never even received a guide book to all of the entries in the contest. But I guess since its over, that doesn't matter anymore.
Other then wasting four days waiting around for nothing, I always enjoy traveling, especially when I can smoke when I'm there, but I really just want my bowl and stash pocket t'shirt that I PAID for UP FRONT FIVE MONTHS AGO SO I WOULD HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

WABT has had a sufficient amount of time to contact all their clients that paid to attend the 07' Cannaibus Cup in an attempt to salvage their name and future reputation. I am not aware of anyone receiving any of the promised goodies from WABT after their return from Amsterdam or any form of monetary compensation or reimbursements to their clients for services and goods failing to be delivered. Gee...how do we approach the topic of breach of contract or possibly even fraud....?

Hey we had a great time in AmsterDAM. Its your own fault if you had a bad time. Amsterdam is an awesome city. The cup was better last year, but maybe it will be better next yeaR. THERE WERE WAY more chicks this year at least, Miss High times was fabulous, and Bobby as well. Mr. Skye was annoying and loud. The expo did suck ass. The beers at melkweg were tiny. There were alot of good bands, Homegrown Band, Pyrx, Moe, and TOMMY CHONG. What happened to the comedy show? WE will be back next year to have hella fun partying in the DAM! Nor Cal has the best, you should know this.

I was a Judge this year. how fun was that! A bit confusing... considering...the party at dna was moved....never found out where it ws ?

then.... the book with the schedule had the awards listed for friday but didnt mention until thursday...that meant...people who waited till friday to go to the awards...missed out. i would be upset if i had not been informed...as i was about the party at dna. other then that, it ws the best time ever!

DOn't know why there is so much bull about weed in the dam vs the US. Canada probably has the best due to its legal positions on it all, but as Arjan even said to those attending accross the pond has been working on weed strains for decades before it really being brought to Amsterdam. Amsterdam is renowned for Hashish & the many import varieties so really judging the dam's smokeability on weed without realising its the hash you want to be smoking is about as bad as whingeing in Humbolt county that the dope sucks because you can't get any black for your pipe.

Its been a slice winding the don't slag my celebs up, but this argument will continue in its circle & life just has to get on.

This was my first trip accross the pond and it was a blast! Next time I want to spend more time so I can explore more at my leisure. The Cup was an interesting experience. I enjoyed meeting stoners from different places, checking out the different coffee shops, and smo smo smoking all day. Yeah waiting around for stuff sucked, and the trashy state of the venue was depressing and lack of drinks, but it was still a blast. Most of the booth people were nice and generous and the HT staff were friendly and mellow. Missed the tram one night and had to walk from central station area to Vondelpark. Thanks to the old Dutch man with Kermit the frog on his bike that gave me and my friend directions, you rock. To the guy I met on the Cannabus who seemed cool at first but then told me with a smile on his face that he got AIDs from a prostitue and has continued to sleep with women without condoms, I wasn't sure if you were joking or what but you are seriously disturbed and I am completely disgusted by you. Whether you believe it or not Karma exists and you will get back what you put out with interest so have fun with that. Nuff said. That was the darkest part of the trip the good far out ways the bad though. Dude you couldn't bring me down. I had dinner at the Greenhouse with Jack Herer and Eddy Lepp so I'm feeling pretty blessed here. It's hard to put that experience into words how awesome and inspiring that was. Good vibes flowing. I have a true yearning to travel now and make some positive waves around the globe. I am still processing all of this experience and I'm realizing it's signifigance in my life everyday. To the people who had totally sucky times, thats too bad how is the rest of your life? Try looking at things a little differently.

The true experts who can honestly say they have perfected throwing a festival/event is Seattle Hempfest. If you have ever been, you understand that to organize a 2-day, free admission, 200k attendee festival each year is not easy. Yet they have made the Seattle Hempfest an amazing event. If I ever have any questions or need any advice on how to throw a festival, I know who to call.

My experience w/ WBT was probably one of the few that did go reasonably well.But I can understand how many people felt ripped-off.I am sorry for all involved.Putting on a huge event is difficult, but it can be done( as seen by our Reggae on the River;10,000 attendees converging on our small town for 3 days.(I can totally sympathize w/ the Dutch- it's not pretty. However, it IS our annual fund raising event, so we do it and smile). Big thanks to the Dutch,HTimes,travel companies, ect. for putting on this event for us all. Hopefully the problems that happened this year, will be worked out, and 2008 will be the best "Cup" yet!

Got a perfectly good education & wouldn't want the pay drop to accept BB's full time wage. You managed pay for my tickets quite easily without needing freebies.

Also whether your a HT staff member or not coming from the land of sue because the french fries were not quite golden making out that paying customers are babies etc shows a wank knowledge of business. Lemmings maybe but then Celebrities are just puppets wealthy inteligent people dangle in front of the lemmings in order to help part them from there cash.

With 20 years of practice you would think it could've run smoother than this. They said they had 8-10 people working on this I did an event with 47 competitors and 20 vendors, 30+ government organizations over 5 days with timed events going on inside of the competition and a full blown movie crew of 30+ people right in the middle of it with over $15,000 in cash prizes and thousands in sponsored prizes given away to the winners and did it on a large fairgrounds in the open air and inside buildings by myself, three friends running equipment to move things non stop and my girl friend who had a nervous break down every other hour so I didn't have to and didn't have anything go wrong with the time schedules of the event. Damn near killed me and cost me $18,000 out of pocket because if something or someone doesn't show or put up the cash you cover it out of pocket because one thing is for certain the show must go on schedule as planned. This was my first time ever doing it and I produced the third largest competition on the face of the planet on my first try. Not bragging just showing that there is ways to do an event and then there's the way to not do it. Partying is for after the show not during and while trying to run it. Kudos to High Times for making the effort to produce it but maybe with 20 years under your belt things can run a bit smoother. I'll be back to check on you next year. Good luck and had a great time fending for myself this year.

Same I ain't not hater. To be clear on something the HT staff those who get paid for doing as there manager says. Big thumbs up threee cheers all around & a standing ovation. You guys did a great job trying to give clients a good time. You mplemented the plan as best as possible the fact the plan was flawed is not a reflection IMHO on the staff who implemented it.

Also I don't really like this oh you can't expect it to go right I'm a stoner shit. I agree with the large percentage of cannabis users in Canada described in an article from the mag Treating Yourself and don't want there well cared for gardens by proffessionals who work, get on with life no problem & pay taxes. I really wouldn't want to be associated with folk who can't do their job properly because there to stoned or don't know when to smoke.

The fac they were no pre check on the cleaniness of the powerzone or that medical targeted booths weren't on level access or that the toilets had a step preventing the wheelchair users I saw getting access even if they did want to shuffle on to a throne covered in urine are examples of poor project/event managment. Well maybe partly due to stoned males somehow being unable to piss in a straight line, but mainly event managment. Staff can only implement the plan as given.

I don't feel sympathy for the project planner & if it is the person posting as bobby black sure give me your salary & the budget I'll show you how an event is planned.

Now lets get serious. I've been traveling to Amsterdam since 99 and a few other countries. We Americans don't do ourselves any favors, but when it comes to Amsterdam, the British are hated most of all. It has nothing to do with being fat or anything like that. It's all about age. I've stayed at hotels, hostels, B&B's, private residences and this last time at a small studio apartment. All of the places hated renting to the young Brits. I'm talking about the youngs kids that come over for a weekend of smoking and drinking. And drinking is the main reason. During my first cup in 99 most of the problems were from people drinking, some Americans, but mostly Brits. It seemed the smokers of both countries had few problems. But I'll tell yea! I've made lots of friends there, from coffeeshop owners, bar and resturant employees and people of all walks, including a few Police persons and the story is the same, no matter who I talk to. Everyone over 25 are great, but no one wants to deal with young Brit's because of their attitude toward everything after they have been drinking and sometimes smoking. I know of one small coffeeshop that won't serve Brit's or Americans under 25. Both countries have a bad image there, but because the Brit's are so close and more visit for short stays, they have a bad rep as hoolagans with little or no regard for anyone but them selves. You should talk to more locals for good opinions and distance yourself from your country so they know they can speak freely to you without offending your country pride. Don't feel bad though, at least your not stuck with Bush, though your new PM is making some great waves there! Love watching the house of commons or as they call it in Belgium , the House of Comedy!

However, there are some of us that are alright. I have lived in Eindhoven for 2 years and spent the rest in the Washington DC area. Anyone that definatively says the best bud comes from any one location is, for lack of a better word, wrong. Indoor growth allows you to completely take the outside conditions in a particular geographical location out of the picture; allowing anyone, in any climate, to produce quality bud. Furthermore; you cannot legitamatly argue that Holland, Europe, and everywhere besides America utilizes superior growth methods. I have had several years of experience with both American and Dutch bud, and can tell you that I have had amazing strains from both.

Now this portion of the post is aimed at the extremely arrogant and hypocritical post from TheBrit. You are correct that America does contribute a large portion of the global polution. You'll also want to know that we have the highest percentage of hybrid vehicles on our roads. We have some of the most strict polution legislation coming through our government in the world. You see Brit, the problem is that America in comparison to developed Europe is extremely young. We lack infrastructure in the area of transportation, causing us to rely more on cars. This is not our choice, but a matter of unfortunate circumstance.

What gets to me about your post is you try to label all Americans as arrogant, esurient (that means glutton) pigs. Yet, you throw in little jabs at our IQ. Basically, I look at you and see that you are the worse kind of judgemental prick. You think you are so wordly, but have no real grasp on America at all. If we Americans could change our global situation in a day, we would.

The HT staff is only a handful of people and we bust our asses trying to organize and run the Cup, working 10 hour shifts at registration and voting with a smile on our faces, and trying to keep everyone happy. Let's see you put on an event of that size for a few thousand stoners and not have anything go wrong.

Barney's buying the Cup? PLEASE!!! The reason the awards show ran so late was because we kept voting open hours after it was supposed to close so that the stoned people who got there way too late could still vote, and our staff insisted on tabulating EVERY SINGLE VOTE fairly. Yes, the shops that spend and promote more tend to win--just like the politicians in America do. If you want to blame someone for that, blame yourselves for allowing your votes to be bought, not HT.

If you don't like the event or the weed in Holland, then don't come back—there are plenty of people who will. I'm sorry, but if you had a miserable time, its your own fault.

I currently live in Holland although I have also lived in the States, and I can tell you the pot here is pretty much the best in the world (with some areas in Morocco and India maybe excepted). The problem is, most Amercans smoke weed, which you become resistant to in a very short spsce of time.

Most Duth will tell you that the hashish is far superior (and I'm not talking about those ridiculous isolators).

And as for all the best shit going to Belgium!!! I have also livesd there, and all the decent shit in Belgium comes straight from Holland, and is sold at about twice the price. Another US-inspired myth...like Genesis over evolution.

And guys...how many times? Britain won the war aginst Germany (twice). America only decided to help out after the UK had pretty much single-handedly staved off Germany for 4 years.

I would not recommend WBT for any travel ANYWHERE!They were very unorganized, inept, arrogant(Chad, I am talking to you!). I understand it was their first time booking for the Cannabis Cup, but still... High Times should seriously reconsider aligning themselves w/ them in the future( if WBT has a future). That said, I had a great time visiting all the seed companies, and coffee shops. The Dutch were gracious and delightful. Thanks to the Greenhouse and Barney's for their nice "goodie bags". The Dutch do have their breeding down- but sorry, Humboldt has the tastiest herb!!!

VA---We do have some better weed here in the states, but we our growers also dont have to produce 30-40 lbs of each strain each week. If they did they would still be good, but not as good. I was looking forward to a great time in amsterdam. That ended when i landed at the airport. Come to find out that all the locals hate americans because of Bush. Bunch of weak minded people. Think they would have more respect for a country that saved all their asses in the last two major world wars. That aside, first coffie shop i went to was Barney's and i got 1 gram of G-13 x Haze and smoked it all up in bong hits in less then 10 minutes. WHAT A JOKE. Sad how weed is some what legal here and the weed sucks. Its illegal in the states and way better, HOW? So i started asking question in some of the coffie shops and found out all the good weed is sold to Belgium and all the crap is sold to the coffie shops in amsterdam. What happen to getting high? I really don't care what the weed looks, smells, and taste like. I smoke weed to get high, thats it. Not cause it looks good.

Hello cup lovers and haters, take it or leave it the cup is why most of the people taking five minutes to bitch bout their trip, EVER CAME TO HOLLAND. The cup is a god send and even though it has turned a bit commercial they still do it and take any of the b.s. flak from the people who expected the whole trip to be a guided tour, of some amazing place where you can buy and smoke CANNABIS in the open. As far as the expo goes agreed that its a bit far and for sure nothing is free but what is and if you were lookin to get then thats what you got.High Times has been doing this for a while its an American party that they LET you attend for a fee and if you wanted in you payed. Be happy or try to be that was a week of heavy ganja influence feelin ripped just makes the whole vibe negative. Learn from it and thank Steve and H.T. for still tryin. Marketing a whole city and the fun inside isn't easy. Especially when theres money involved. Stay high and save up for next year if you skip the judges pass and just stop to see the party its a fu*kin good time. Judge of what and by whoes rules? I went last year...Not worth buying judges pass. In fact Cannabis Cup is probably the worst time to go because lots of others like you are going to be filling your favorite coffeeshop. Long lines just to find out they ran out of strain you have to judge. I see a lot of people regret going. I don't think there will be many more if any. Donate your money that you give High Times to NORML. It will do more than let you "judge" weed you have to buy...expo way to small and cramped in 06, how about this year?

wow folks out there had a mixed bag huh haha well let me tell ya I was there also but didn't buy a judges pass as I considered this to be a rip from the beginning now don't get me wrong I think the judge's pass is fine for first timers it gives you a focus for folks who don't know there way around . Any way me and my friends were interviewed by the B.B.C. television (bbcnews night airs in jan.)in the homegrown fantsy shop and we tell the real story of the folks and our experince at the cup we were interviewed because Steve Hager of high times refused to interviewed unless whe was payed a 1000 euros so they said no way so the went looking for real folks not greedy ones anyway Moe. rocks(THanks Vinne) and I have to say that the t.h.seeds had the best weed you didn't try in the cup the A-TRAIN, followed by the blue cheese from barney's and the blue haze sativea from the noon the G-13 was stong but had no taste and the green house did the bait and switch on the sivler the packs were good but the dowtown shop had swag that they called the silver haze hmmmm. had a great time brjoness with free aple pie and great weed best sour dieseil , next time be sure to visit the shops outside the innner city way better prices better hash and most of the time better weed' also I was at the expo you dind't need a f...ng pass 20 euros any night you were in so what did you really get maybe a free moe. show oh well just what I thought Thanks Davmon420

Hi Folks! Just got back to the states and reading the disapointing comments. I would like to point out a few thigs that some first timers and some old timers may not understand about the cup.

1. there are different categories of entries: Seed companies (voted on by the celebrity judge panel of 10; these are the indica and sativa cups) and there is the coffeeshop entries that are judged by the judges with passes. This is one reason some of you may not understand how a strain won if you didn't know about it, or try it for that matter.

Now to the real matter at hand. WE have been here since the end of 420b travel company. So we are technically the oldest travel comapny for the cup. We made it our personal goal to see that our travelers don't have as bad a time that we did when we spent almost 40k on a group and were treated like crap. We didn't want that to happen again, thus the beginning of Apothecary Travel. We had already been producing seeds in Amsterdam at that time. It made sense to start the travel side.

It has always been our goal to see that our travelers are treated like family. and I don't mean the family you avoid except at Christmas. We wanted everyone to enjoy themselves and to feel part of a group. Not just dumped in Amsterdam without knowing the ropes. Taxis, trams, you name it.

For those who were unhappy with their trip, please check us out and keep us in mind for next year. WE will have 3 level packages 2,3 adn 5 star hotels. no sharing bathrooms, no train transfers (personal transport only) no hostels, and no 5 nighters. only 7 or 10. 5 nights is just not long enough. We are the only travel company recognised by all the shops in Amsterdam.

So our new website will be up and running by February 1 with next year's packages as well as our other friendly tours. We anticipate selling out next year and space is limited. BOOK EARLY! see you there!

This was my first Cup and first time in Amsterdam, and it was an amazing time all around. My buddies kept trying to get me to slow down -- they just couldn't keep up with all the fun we were having ;)

The Expo was a bit of a haul (regardless of whether we hopped on the metro or somehow managed to score empty seats on the free shuttle) ... but one of the two times we made it out there we caught Fantuzzi -- and his performance and good vibes made the trek to the PowerZone totally worthwhile.

Living in Amsterdam, you quickly work out which coffeeshops to buy in, so no surprise that Barney's came out a winner. Their staff are friendly and helpful, and they make a big effort to help you enjoy your smoke. This cannot be said of the Greenhouse or Dampkring; there you'll only find arrogant and rude staff who couldn't care less - who want's to bother with that crap?

Great trip in Amsterdam this year with my friend Jack! Super Silver Haze and Mako Haze of Dampkring were the best and not overpriced like G13 Haze {Barney`s) or Hawaian Snow (Greenhouse). Anyway, these are absolutely the range that we preferred.

1st of all I just wanna thank HT for putting on the Cup. I know theres lots of people on here bitching about stuff, but theres no doubt in my mind they are TRYING to put on a good event.

Sure, that Dan Skye dude was lame and drove me away from the stage when he took the mic but I think the folks at HT saw that and they'll prob not use him again next year. Same hopefully goes for their partnership with W&B Travel who did their best to ruin my trip.

As for the Cup itself though I thought it was a great event. At the expo it seemed like people were constantly handing me free vape bags to smoke. Granted when you are stoned all day it would be nice if there was some cheap water for sale, but I'm sure like others have mentioned that was prob the decision of the venue. Would I like free water for everyone there so ppl could stay hydrated? Of course, but I'd also like to go to a concert or the movies and be able to get water for less than $5 too, unfortunately that's just not the way it is.

As for the judging I don't think there's any conspiracy here or rigging. I mean sure the Barneys logo were everywhere and they gave away lots of free weed. I think that definitely helped them to win the Cup, but that's just like voting for the president...usually the people with the most money to spend have the best chance of winning because ppl here and see there names more, but if you were a true judge you wouldn't have let that sway you and voted for whatever smoked the best. I voted for the Chocolope which I thought was the tastiest weed in the Dam.

The only thing I was disappointed by was that I didn't get to try the strain from those guys Ookie & Kabookie or whatever their names were because that stuff beat the Chocolope in a smoke off one of the days I was there so it must have been pretty nice. Someone told me those guys got kicked out of the cup for bribing judges or something. Anyone know if that's true and did anyone get to try their weed?

On another note...during the joint rolling contest, I was late getting to the stage. So I sat on the front of the stage to watch. I saw most of the contestants rolling some pretty lame joints. So I rolled up 2 giant cones (with my own stash-not the material provided) and handed them up when they were asking the crowd whose was best. Maybe mine wasn't the best, but they were very nice . The photographer behind me said I shoulda won (got any pics?). Anyways Douche Skye kinda blew off my joints, then handed them to the winner of the contest. So at 4:20, instead of lighting and passing the 60 Euros in weed I just rolled up, I had to sit back down and roll another........

Thats a pretty insulting comment about babysitting adults. I think most of the people with problems got there bit done fine. AND If I was managing the show redman & others would have had their ass kicked on stage on time or had their appearance fee's reduced aprropriately. Don't blame the paying clientelle for the event promoters mistakes.

TO be clear ALL the exhibitors did a good job. There only responsibility to the judges is the activity at their booths & coffeeshops if apropriate. I agree a bit about Soma but the only one who I found pathetic was Sensi as after going to the coffeeshop they didn't have an entry other than for the asshole celebs. Giving HT the full stock of Jack Herer which was then given to the Very Important Pricks.

And thats the problem with the event HT still runs it as a private party for its staff & the celebs, which would be fine if you only had a few payng judges that you didn't really care about. However with 100's if not 1000's of paying clients at $200 bucks a pop its time to pull the head out the ass & act like a professional company. SOmethign HT as a modern media graphics company aka magazine is lacking even on this web site.

I wanted to take a minute to thank High Times for all their effort and for putting on a great show. This was our first Cup and the experience was incredible.
In my opinion (anything but humble) the fact that Barney's won many of the competition categories is NOT an indication that there was some kind of conspiracy. I believe that this is a direct result of their friendly staff, the time and money Barney's invested in this event and most importantly that nearly everyone noticed this and therefore voted for Barney's. If I was the only one to appreciated this effort then there would have been only 1 vote for them...instead nearly everyone noticed and acknowledged the effort and commitment Barney's put forward...and they won - go figure!
Hight Times even went so far as to push back the voting times so that everyone could vote - what more could you ask for??
I was so impressed (even though I was sick as hell for the opening ceremonies and missed most of the next day as well) and had such a great time that we will be trying to come to more HT events, like the upcomming trip to Jamaica - keep up the good work!
In closing Id like to add (and Im going to) that we will be actively supporting NORML here in our part of south Florida and hope that you will all do the same!!

Wow! I 'm sory so many people had a bad experince with Wake And Bake travel...I went with Apothecary Travel, and was just blown away! I was given a nice bag that was filled with goodies. Like some papers, map of amsterdam, book about night life, and a Hand Blown Glass Pipe from Dragon by Jw...What more could I want. GreenHouse was a great shop to smoke, and Barneys staff was overwhelmingly nice! I had a great time, and we travel again with apothecary travel!!

Sorry to hear most every one had such a bad time at this year's cup. I had a GREAT time! I went with Apothecary Travel, and had a time of my life! Their sponsors and Apothecary had a great goodie-bag. They met us at the airport and even made sure some of the WAB travelers made it to their hotels too. They made sure we were treated like Royalty. The owner, his wife and the Apothecary Angel took us around with them. I was able to go back stage and meet some wonderful people. They made sure we understood where and when the events were goung on and how to catch the vans from the coffee-shops. They showed they really care about their travelers. I felt like apart of their family. I was so glad to hear on Judge's Night that they won one of the breeders cups. This was my first time and I am planning on going next year with Apothecary Travel. I also want to Thank HT's for putting on this event, to try to show us Americans how another country can live and work with Cannabis as apart of their everyday lives. I was so surprised to see no trouble, no shootings and no fights and remember next time watch out for them damn bikes..

surprise, surprise, more cannabis cups for the two worst coffeeshops in the dam, barney's and greenhouse. the two biggest tourist traps in the dam are kept in business by this bullshit contest. high times could give two shits about promoting the best smoke in the dam. instead, they prefer to reward those who kiss their ass the hardest.

and speaking of rip-off artists, why the fuck would they give a cup to bc bud depot? those guys are notorious for taking peoples money and never sending the seeds theyve paid for. dont believe me? on a positive note, its good to see the best shop in the dam, de dampkring get some love. grey area is also a respectable shop who deserves some of the spotlight, even though steve is sort of an asshole. at least their bags weigh and the smoke has not been sifted a la greenhouse.

travel companies in this industry seem hard to handle because of the paranoid, rude and inconsiderate people trying to travel with them. first time is always the trial run. mistakes are made and then changed. of the 200+ WABT travellers, about 50 of them who came to the expected places, smoked out, recieved their illadelph bongs and other sponsored gifts, created friendships, knew that europe is known for their small spaces, steep stairs, not-so-great hotels, and aware of the cost of taking taxis or the need to walk several miles a day, were there to have fun and be a part of an amazing experience, happened to be quite satisfied.
talking to people who travelled alone that spent $600+ on flight, $850+ on hotel, then added the cost of staying for the week, and determined the USD to EURO difference, found it just as much of an amazing experience as i did, yet i recieved more.
it seems as though some think that bringing it to court will serve its purpose. not a chance.

Blue Cheese the best in Amsterdam, Barneys should have entered it. It was a total Barneys show. I think that the SuperSilverHaze from the Greenhouse and one or two others were very close to G-13haze. Overall a very good party. HighTimes just sets the program, it's up to us, the people to make the party. Anyone going to Amsterdam and not having fun is crazy. Thank you HighTimes overall a great time. We met some great people from all over the world. The problems were small, we shouldn't expect anyone to have to babysit adults. usbonglord you are right about the canal cruise, a smokers cruise and you couldn't burn one is totaly crazy.
Thank you to all the great people of Amsterdam who made this cup for me one of the best times ever in their Amazing Country. The dollar being weak is not the fault of the Dutch, But the FREEDOM in the NETHERLANDS is their is.

HT negotiated the contract for the venue. Aparently the useless .5 euro token system was not the norm in previous years as I asked some exhibitors. Piss HT should have covered all these topics in there hire contract how stupid is it to then sell drinks on the busses which people can't take inside. If I had bought the juice on the bus I would have contacted a solicitor. I was pretty sure someone would have a go at defending them but if you can try for such a small slice of the incometence I highlighted. Then your probably one of the folk beatching because Barnies served some paying customers before handing out the freebies.

I thought the Blueberry Haze from The Noon was Good, as was there 4 gram for 23 euro deal of blueberry, an there 4gram of white melon for 22 euros.

Also, The Crush Coffeeshop has some Nice, Big Budded AK-47, Smells an Smoke's Good.

I also thought the Red Cherry Berry an Rokerij sOUR Diesel were good, and Mako Haze.

I had another great time in Amsterdam for this years cup. With little or no thanks to HT. The coffeeshops and people I met along the way made the trip for me. I have some overdue comments for High Times.....Who the h#ll is Bobby Black ? He must be somebodys nephew or something because he has no talent and is a complete douche. I cannot believe you intterupted Soma speaking so Bobby could do his show? Super Lame. He kept asking random girls to come on stage and "try-out" for miss HT. I was embarrassed to hear these girls speak,("like pot is real cool and it should be legal and stuff") and HT should be as well,you dont want any of these dingdongs representing you...or maybe you do. Ok how about Dan Skye??? You could tell by his comments and body language that hes a total a@@. I would go on about what a piece of work this guy is but this sums it up...I saw him leave the bathroom without washing his hands. Then proceeded to handle big joints onstage and pass them to the crowd. So anyone with a new case of Hepatitis.......nuff said there. The Pot Star???? Maybe the Not Star. I would send you my resume and bring some life to your crew, but I don't think I could work with such a group of douchebags.

I'm surprised how people who would whine about being made to wait five minutes at the dealer counter easily accept the pathetic event managment of High Times.

Just finished reading the Treating Yourself magazine I was given & it came to me I was handed that from a stall at the top of the stairs. Wonder how many MS, Motorneurone or other motor skill medicial users they connected with during the event or was all the mags handed out to healthy recreational users. Thats just one of the por thinking processes they put into the medicinal users attending. The sloppy running of the event meant more time was spent going for a rest after standing about than actually watching the concerts. We gave up on the HT event & just went with the coffeeshop fun.

Now there was over 1000 judges so thats a budget of ver $200 k US For that money you should be able to make the busses run on time or even hire cleaners to sort a mess even if you do back sue the location. Again for that budget the event manager should pull their head out of their A$$ get the job done & sit down for a smoke afterwards. NOT swing along with Karma having a blast while dragging the paying crowd behind.

HT got my entrance fee but the complete value of the event was provided byt the exhibitors of coffeeshops, seed companies & others. Even giving loads of stuff away free at the expo in hits, skins roaches. F**k the list is way to long although HT were too tight to even let you walk in with your own Juice. What a laugh go to a legalise weed event only to be told you can't bring your juice in.

I will be taking the short hop accross the North Sea ASAP, but I won't be supporting the HT party funds with my cash again.

I have been coming to the cup for 10 years and had a wonderful time at this cup. The entertainment this year with moe., Redman and Honkytonk Homeslice was the best since I have been to the fest. The High Times schedule is always a little off but they pull thru. In this day and age of the internet and travel blogs, a little effort on the part of the judges to book their own trips is easy and this same effort should be put into the judging. Barney's, the Greenhouse, Dampkring etc. have not won or been in contention year after year if the product did not measure up and these shops have proven it in similar dutch contests. Stop blaming the dutch and the High Times folks for your perceived bad time because the travel companies did not meet your expectations and one of the travel companies did not have the experience to properly handle this event. So many people work many hours whether for the coffeeshops or High Times or whatever to be the brunt of so much criticism. Yes, the Powerzone is too far away but anyone taking a few minutes to learn the metro would have found it a 25 minute trip each way and an easy walk from the Sparklewag station. Both Barney's and the Greenhouse had multiple shuttles taking people to the Powerzone. The whole event ihas developed over time because of the increased involvement of Derry and Arjan. Next year, Amsterdam may have a smoking ban, a much greater crisis than any of the BS issues on this board. I'll be there.

I had a GREAT time at the cup this year!! i went through CS Travel and thought they were very professional and gave me good suggestions of what to do in amsterdam and where to go. i was on the plane with some people from Wake and Bake Travel who didn't even get picked up at the airport...(the rep from CS Travel ended up helping them).

My only complaint was that the canal cruise wasn't as good as last year (no vaporizers)....but the comedy show more than made up for it.

Anyone ever done the Miss High Times Pageant Trip?....Is it any good?...Can it even compare to the Cup?

I thought G-13 Haze at Barney's was good but chocolope was the best!

I avoided the Power Zone except two visits. Check in and voting. I don't regret it. Before I voted I was able to smoke most of the hash entries free.

Anyone on a budget, ask the shop person for a 1/2 gram. It usually runs 5-7E. To the people throwing props to Barney's for the volcano hits, Don't forget that De Rokerij had a Hookah loaded with their hash entry.

It was much cheaper to book piece by piece.

No more than 1000 per, in fact the first year I went in 2005 I payed 840 roundtrip. person which includes 6 nights 7 days in Amsterdam...

Please make all of your own arrangements and let the city take care of you instead of the incompotent travel companies which made to many promises that could never be honored. I went through http://www.globaltransfers.comfor my apartment and they hooked me up right out front of the Central Station and easy access to everything. 100 meters walk and I was in the hub of all trams and metro bus area. The city isn't that spread out that walking can't take care of most traveling inside of the city. Thank you Alan for the inside on Zandvoort by the sea. It was a nice trip away from the city and a beautiful area on a 30 minute train ride to the coast of the North Sea. Got to go during warmer weather and looking for a place to stay there for a couple of months next year. So I can use the netherlands for a home base as I carve in 5-6 countries in late summer through the fall. Report the bad business practices of these travel companies to the better business bureau and it will help make them better or keep people making the same mistakes we did this year. Had a great time as long as I stayed away from the Cup activies. The growers and coffee shops were very helpful and worked to make me comfortable and knowledgeable of the products and services. I don't blame the Dutch for their attitudes towards the Americans. It's like we set up a block party in their nieghborhood and didn't invite them. Invasion of the want to be to high to know you're alive thrown on their door steps. I can't wait to go back and see the place without the pressure of trying to try everything in a few days and missing out on a whole lot of great experiences. I have my complaints but I had more good times than bad and I'm on vacation and I'm not one to dwell on the misfortune of my choices that didn't work out. I made it happen for me.
I met some great people from everywhere coming and going and staying in the most tolerant ciy on the planet.

Little mixed on the top three cannabis thought to see the mexican up there from dampkring Super silver was the bomb and choclope was medioker but i quess thats y most shops dont enter b/c the best dont always win.. Disappointed didnt even see barneys dispite all the walking we did!!!! OH well next time! Bulldog what a Great Stay!!!

I booked with Apothecary Travel and had A GREAT time. Granted the Cup Events were pretty lame, but the expeerince was definetly worth it! Green House are great people, Barney's was fun, but just being in a liberal city was the best!!

Just wanted to say Hi to the tall black gent from Seatle that I kept bumping into. Hope you had a blast and a safe trip home.

What's up with all the tour companies sucking ass? I've heard a lot of complaints about not getting stuff / waiting for rides. Any specifics?

As far as going cheaply - I was able to have a good time, get a non-stop flight and a private hotel room for under $1800 complete. Food/Spending/Smoke included! I need to write a book - cheapo's guide to A-Dam.

As for the results - Ok, whatever. That G13 Haze sucked. The chocolope was one of the only entries that I tried with much flavor. Kushage, Cherry Bomb (chemy but tasty, and blue cheese were some of the best tasting entries I tried. The Algerian smelled good but lacked a little flavor. The Lavender from Katsu was pretty good too. The shuttle driver to Katsu was a trip - almost a little too trippy.

I smoke a lot of pot here at home - Lowryder mostly and sometimes some brick bullshit. But the pot in A-Dam didn't get me any higher than what I have here. A high is still a high after 10 years I guess. I enjoyed smoking all the flavors though - aside from the chemy ones that made your throat do weird shit.

Later all - don't put any stock in these results, they are based soley on popularity and marketing. ie - barney's bag. Thanks to Barney's though for being the ONLY generous coffeeshop. Even GH made you buy it - it was a good deal though - seeds, bud and 2 hashes for 25e.

Dollar drop - prices dropped instead of rising. I've been watching airfare and hotel prices to Holland for about 18 months, and prices just FELL about 40% just before the cup. The Wake and Bake and High Times people had to take the higher prices being scheduled in late summer.

It makes no sense that short-notice airfare and hotel prices dropped JUST BEFORE the cup, so it would've been cheaper this time to have just gone over yourself. But it isn't NORMALLY that way.

The weak dollar is FORCING Europe to lower prices since they depend on Americans to make a living. But prices should have been higher, not lower.

BUt now is a good time to go to Europe - prices are low despite the weak dollar.

This is a wierd moment in economic history.

If you complain about CS travel, at least tell us what your complaint is about.

As far as the Dutch not "liking" the Americans there; this is an American cannabis cup contest, not a Dutch contest. The Dutch have their own Dutch cup since they speak Dutch, not English normally.

I love the Dutch and their coffee shops.

Speaking for me, the cup was a cross between Cirque D'Soleil, Burning Man, and Mardi Gras. Too macabre for my tastes. I don't mind an edge to things but it got into my comfort zone. I didn't care who won the cup either and still dont. It also changed my view on legalization in the US. I am no longer a proponent. But I have my medical card in a state the allows medicinal use, so from my point that works for me. I'd rather not see stoner/loser Americans in the streets. I got the distinct impression that the Dutch people didn't care for it all that much either. But go and find out for yourself just don't use Wake and Bake Travel. I dont think anyone will have to worry about that since it is my belief they will be out of business.

Ariel, speaking just for myself, I was disappointed in the official Cup festivities but not in the coffeeshops or the people in them.

I found the ceremonies and events to be painful: incompetant sound people, a VERY unfunny emcee, scheduling that ran waaaaay past even 'stoner time' --- it felt like missed opportunity after missed opportunity.

The program book claims that the events are supposed to be "improvisational in nature" as a kind of fuck-you to the establishment, but with so many shops to visit and strains to try, time can be tight and you kind of DO really wanna know when Tommy Chong or Redman are REALLY going to appear, not just "sometime tonight, dude!", especially since the expo center was somewhat far from the center of town (the free shuttles were nice but it was still a hassle).

I ended up not caring who won, really, and just viewing it as a 'wine tasting'-type deal and week-long freak convention. I enjoyed the people I met and getting to see new coffeeshops I had never checked out before. If that's what it is, then it's fine by me.

My advice is to stay at home and hit your head with a hammer, it will be more fun! Stay away from Wake and Bake Travel. If I were to do it again, which won't ever happen, I would do the travel myself, go in summer and stay away from the CUP! Good luck
