Elijah Wood in HIGH TIMES Magazine!

Elijah Wood, the international superstar best known as the hobbit Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and currently starring in the pot-soaked comedy series Wilfred on FX, speaks frankly about marijuana in his feature interview in the October issue of HIGH TIMES Magazine.
How widespread do you think marijuana use is in Hollywood?
“It’s gotten to the point where it just seems a natural part of people’s lives. It’s certainly not taboo; I know a number of people who have medical cards. People feel very free talking about it. It doesn’t seem to be hidden or shoved under the carpet. It’s part of people’s lives in a very natural way.”
“I think the whole notion that marijuana is illegal is past the point of ridiculousness. It seems a little silly to be uptight about something that’s so natural. To be honest, I’m not really much of a pot smoker – it never really sat well with me. I’ve got friends that smoke and have smoked for years. I’ve always wished I could achieve that comfort and tolerance, but I have no tolerance for it whatsoever. But I’ve always been an advocate. I just feel it should be decriminalized. We’re spending taxpayers’ money on putting people away for something so harmless.”
When Lord of the Rings was being made, we read reports that the extras were smoking pot on the set because there was so much downtime.
“Really? I didn’t hear that, but I’m not surprised. I think New Zealanders have a pretty healthy relationship with marijuana. It’s definitely a facet of their life, and they have a deep connection with nature. But I love that! That’s so great! I mean, marijuana and Lord of the Rings have been tightly linked for a long time.”

As for what Wood's saying, haven't we all known those few folks who just can't smoke weed? They either have a bad physical reaction or just don't feel anything. It's not common, but over the decades I've known a handful of folks who just can't smoke. Wood's opinions are great - especially in print and from a celebrity of his stature.

So I guess he is OK. The end of the last LOTR movie sucked. One more smiling Nome and I would have puked. The rest of the movie was cool though. Never read the books.
