The most common variety of psychoactive mushroom found in North America grows on cow shit; the other varieties apparently just taste that way, at least in my experience. I suppose it’s possible that there’s some kind of psychedelic portobello cross out there that delights the taste buds and makes you trip balls into the wee hours, but I’ve never come across it. Usually what I’m facing a half hour before the concert kicks off looks more like something Joe Rogan should be feeding me on Fear Factor — dry and pungent stems and caps that, when chewed up raw, taste like trying to eat the carpet in the basement. And then those foul ’shrooms just sit there in your stomach for the next 20 minutes, making you queasy: Oh dude, I think I might have to go hurl behind that big tree... Relax, okay, man? Remember to relax, and just take a deep breath... Okay, I’m fine...Also, that’s not a tree.
Anyway, we all know that what happens after those first 20 minutes pass usually makes the effort of eating all those nasty fungi worthwhile, but lately I’ve nevertheless become interested in how the actual ingestion process can be improved. First, I tried brewing up a batch of mushroom tea, which was a big step up over crunching, especially when served with loads of honey and spices—but still, the word that comes to mind is tolerable, and that’s not exactly high praise. Next, I tried various companion foods as suggested by my friends and colleagues here at HIGH TIMES, who variously swore by mixing the ‘shrooms into extra-crunchy peanut butter (too chewy), Fruity Pebbles cereal (too sugary) and maple-walnut granola (too cliché).
As you can imagine, by this point I’d put myself through a fair amount of inner-space exploration in search of the perfect vessel to contain the essence of the sacred mushrooms. One trip blended into the next, and though the trail of events leading me there grew long and convoluted beyond easy reconstruction, I clearly remember that at one point I ended up working at the gift shop on board a magical transcontinental flying dragon with capacity for 420 passengers. A very old Japanese man came into the shop and admired a glass pipe in the shape of the dragon for sale behind the register. But when I told him the price, he said he didn’t have any money and offered to grant me one wish in lieu of a cash payment.
“Anything?” I asked, incredulous.
“Of course,” the old man said, bowing respectfully. “On my honor.”
“Okay, show me the best way to eat my mushrooms.”
He then reached into his pocket and handed me the recipe reprinted on this page—all written down before I ever asked for it.

so hrs wut u do:
use real unsalted butter; no margerine.
use 3 stks pr 1/4oz. 2 if its crpy stf.
heat to a boil & thn adj the temp to 1 1/2 - 2 on an elec stove.
u may evn nd 2 lower if yor butter starts to boil. wen yor butter is mstly mltd, chop or brk up yor stf & ad it 2 the pot.
mix yor stuf & btr wel. u wnt 2 simr 4 20-25 mins, stirng evry 3 mins.
set aside & let sit cvrd & alw it 2 cool a bit. chk @ 5&10 mins. whn u cn keep yor finger in mix it's rdy 2 go. set yor bowl down & lay yor clth ovr it. u cn secure ovr the bwl w/ a rbbrbnd if u want. let it droop alil in center & thn pour on the cloth. colct the edges of the cloth & squeeze as much butter out as u can. twist it as tight as u can & thn squeeze it agn & agn til no more cms out.
msre out wut yor gona use & scoop the rest in2 jar that u wil put in the fridge 4 ltr.
the btr wil only keep 4 a mth or 2 b4 it molds cuz of the organic matr in it. use a clear jar 2 wtch it.
ive dne ths 100s of times & i hope ths helps. great 4 cooking or on a bagel for breakfast;)

Mix them with a bag of salted peanuts. eat mushie/peanut mix and wash down each mouthful with a delicious sip of icy cold heinekin. Also means that you can take them while out on the town. mmm...

Please note, do not cook the shrooms, because the active chemicals in them break down at low temperatures (which is why you can't smoke mushrooms)
Tea:
Ingredients:
1 cup water per person
Make your own judgement on how large of a dose to use...I usually use around 2 grams of dried.
1 teabag per dose (any flavor, though a good ginger tea will be the best for those of you who have trouble eating shrooms without getting sick, as the ginger will mostly eliminate that...I tend to include ginger in all of my recipes, as it will help everyone taking them in the long run...No sickies means more happy people =)
Heat cup of water in microwave, remove, let cool slightly...Crush mushrooms into fine powder, and add teabag with the dose to the water...Cover with plastic wrap and let sit for ~ two minutes or so. Uncover, and either strain into another glass, or drink it with the mushroom powder in it still (My preference).
Many other recipes exist, and its really very simple...Just dont do much COOKING with them, or the chemical breaks down. Mushrooms can be added to most foods when they are cooled slightly (Less than 180 farenheit I think, correct me if I'm wrong) Some of my favorite ways are in salsa with chips (for the on the go trippy-meal, like fast food style) or mixed into soup, or you can get creative and make tasty treats (Honey is a good choice for mixing with mushrooms, as it also acts as a preservative. Putting mushrooms in a jar, filling it in with honey, letting the bubbles settle out of it, covering it (airtight), then putting it in a cool-ish dark place will preserve your mushrooms and make them tasty too. Spread a bit of that on your toast in the morning =). Careful though, make sure you dont take too large of a dose this way, its harder to control.
Experiment, don't burn your cubes, and enjoy your trip!

-But wut i've been meaning to try out is breaking the scoobs up and melt down some chocolate, and mix the mushy's up wit the chocolate and pooring it on cup cakes or just eating the chocolate straight, some friends tried it not long ago and said they had the best trip, so im probably gona try it out
