sorry to double post, but to answer the topic of the thread -

everyone pretty much hit it on the button.
-indica is a more relaxed, lazier, LESS PARANOID prone bud.
-sativa is more of a 'woah im f***in high bro' lets go to Wal-Mart type of high. Pot can make anyone lazy, but this has less potential than an indica. This type of bud is more prone to getting paranoid than an indica. But if you don't have a problem getting paranoid, this is the type of bud you can smoke during the day on breaks, etc.

These are of course my opinions from the experiences I have had. Remember, bud affects everyone differently, so don't take these words in stone.

to the guy that gets panic attacks... its all in your head. i smoke daily multiple times, and a few years ago i went through the exact thing you are going though. If you think you are going to get paranoid before you smoke, you are going to get paranoid. Remember why you're smoking bro...think of Bob Marley. This article and the idea in general that there might be two different types of weed made me curious. I have smoked pot for 5 years and have loved every second of it....until just recently...now everytime I smoke I have a panic attack, my chest feels tight, I get lightheaded to the point of feeling like passing out and my heart races uncontrollably. It has changed me and I now feel like I cant smoke pot anymore which makes me depressed because that shit has been like therapy for me. I was just wondering if anybody either knew why this happens or if switching from one type to the other might help. I would appreciate any comments back as I feel really lost right now. Ive had so many good times with pot and living without would change everything. Thanks

Seriously, Pot Snob, were you high when you wrote this? Or just when you submitted it? Where is the other half of the article? Like the part where you answer the dude's question...

Indica and Sativa highs have general characteristics, as do the plants themselves. The Indica high is more of a "body" high, and can sometimes be associated with laziness, or what I like to call "couch-lock." However, some of the most sought-after indicas produce the opposite effect (I'm smoking Granddaddy Purple right now, and I kind of feel like going for a run). The sativa high produces more cerebral effects (and can really freak out newbies).

If you're worried about growing, both can be grown indoors or out, with indicas appearing as squatter bushes with more branches, and sativas looking a bit more like trees (mmmm....treeeeees). The choice you make should really depend on your setup. If you have a 3' x 4' closet that is 8 feet high on the inside that you want to throw a few plants into, then you probably want to go with sativa.

The discussion seems to be a bit academic in any case. If you have access to seeds for growing that you know are either indica or sativa, then you know the difference already, and if you don't know the difference already, you probably don't have access to seeds that you know are either indica or sativa. As for buying from your local dealer, if he doesn't know what it is, then there is no way to tell. Most strains nowadays are a mix of the two anyway.

I have a simple solution:
Indica and Sativa will affect you different depending on the person, ive known some people to prefer one over the other. Hell ive known people that preferred the lesser quality weed, its all about preference man.

So when you smoke, smoke what gives you the high that you like. Personally i like to pack myself a bowl of Blue Dream, and drizzle some Indica Hash Oil over it.

To answer the question of sativa vs. indica is as followes:

I have had panama red acapulco gold opiated thai,which some call black african ganja.colombian gold and maui wowie you can stick to a wall brothers.Every bud is a different high sinsemilla (latin for seedless) introduced in the 80"s a piney smell is a sativa uplifting intense and poss. paranoi buzz. these days called northern lights. I loved the 70's ...The Hawiian was so sweet, I loved the Sensimelia, I loved the Jamacian, Alcalpulco Gold and Panama Red, and yes the TY sticks were sweet but over priced.. I will never forget those flavors... I have horticultural degrees... And weed smoking expierinces. I even grow etnobotanicals. I have a nice Calea Zaccituchichi bush which you can smoke..lol... Sativa is truly supeiror in taste, and no skunk smell... Yes there is a differance! I can grow Indica skunk weed in FL and its strong! But I want sativa! It is way better tasting and smelling!

I was born 1960. I got hight in 1973 at 13. I could get an ounce of weed for $15. quarter ounces went for five bucks. So I had $5 for free to smoke. My dealer had Alcapuco gold! 20 bucks for an ounce! So a quarter ounce went for $10 and the "dime bag" was invented! Sell 2 and you get 2 for free! Better weed piled in. I bought it even though it was expensive. It was the best weed you ever smoked! I do not think any indica skunk weed can match the flavor! And a better high. The skunk weed is all paranoia! The good ol weed is all about munchies! There is a differance!

Sativa was the nice tasting Alcapulco gold, the Panama Red, the good Mexican weed we used to have in the 70's before the paraquat! Now we have the horrible Indica skunkweed.. it is foul! A true conisoure of weed would love a 1973 alcapulco gold over skunk weed! Indica is skunk weed! I tried to grow sativa in MD and it gets you a buzz but it sucks. Here in FL anything you grow is as potent as the original weed. Skunk weed thrives. I want sativa seeds!!! They had the best flavor. Even colunbian gold was close to flavor as Alcapuco gold! Panama red rocked! Lets grow these!

the enlightener is wrong. the sativa leaves are thin and light coloured and have evolved that way because they were growing in the hottest parts of the world and needed less chlorphyll. where india leaves are fat and dark, soaking up more sun because they have less chlorophyll and grew in regions with less sun.

for WIG, indica is a safer bet to grow because of the shorter flowering season and its shorter in stature. Whereas sativa needs all the sunlight you can get it and can grow well above 6 feet (so not good for a closet) and has a much small yield and take longer to flower. However the high tends to be worth the wait.

hey for the person that is planing on buying cheap soil... dont because you dont really know what your getting and from personal experiance if you buy cheap soil you will more often then not wind up with acidic soil making ur plants seed instead of producing good weed, further more for people on the strret indica is composed of more cbd then thc nce it has a body high where as sativa has more thc. meaning mind high kind of uppitity. to answere the main question though if your groing indoors grow indica b/c they grow short and fat. also they tend to be better suited for indoors, where as sativas grow longer and better out doors. if you have nay more questions id be glad to answere them

A quick history lesson. Back in the good 'ole days, there was "barnweed". It grew wild alongside outbuildings throughout most of the midwest. A very mild buzz, it was better suited for rope and cloth than anything else. Along came the 60's and the counter revolution. Coffee houses offered places to go and smoke weed in public. In order to satisy the sudden boom in demand, "dirtweed" from Mexico was the next to arrive. Somewhere between harvest and pipe, it was buried in dirt. It was brownish red, dry, pressed and tasted like dirt. But hey, it was a buzz and "3 finger lids" (approx an oz.) sold for all of $5.00. Refined tastes demanded better and for the connoisseurs Panama Red followed closely by Acapulco Gold hit the market. Ahhhhh, good stuff and High times!! Vietnam brought new markets to bear in America. I had my first "thai stick" overseas and for those that think they have, true "thai stick" was a bud of "green" wrapped around a stem with a thin strand of the stalk. Treated with opiates, it would f**k you up. For years after Nam back in the states, novices would think killer green weed was "thai stick". NOT!! Very few folks back in the states ever sampled true "thai". But I digress. Hot weather and tropical climes brought adventurous Americans into some good smoke. But what makes my story special is that I was privy to a very special discovery whilst serving my country. I was aboard the USS Enterprise and we were the first warship from the US to take liberty in Mombasa Africa in February '73. And that my friends gave birth to most of what you smoke if it's grown in the US today! Africa had weed growing as tall as bamboo forests everywhere!! (Mauritius, an island off the eastern coast of Africa and our next stop, has weed growing over 90% of the island!). It was the color of the brown paper bags found in grocery stores and one guy tried to sell me a key for $5.00. I could have walked into the "jungle" and harvested as much as I could carry for free!! It was called many things, but the best was "two hit terror". And believe me when I say people got very creative trying to smuggle it back to the US. With antiwar protesters moving into Northern California and Oregon, it didn't take long after reaching stateside for a second generation to sprout up. Grown in America, it was brilliant green and called skunk. "Zebra" striped seeds were a hallmark of this smoke. Subsequent generations gave rises to many varietals including "purple haze" and Sansamilla.
My point? Who the hell cares if it's sativa or indica?
If ya got it burn it!

El Diablo Blanco, if you are looking for killer strains in Jamaica I know what you can ask them for. Ask around for some Lambsbread, this is Bob Marley's favourite strain, and if you are lucky you will find it. Apparently the smoke is so smooth that it is like breathing in fresh mountain air, and the high really puts you in that state of true, "Irie".

But if nobody has lambsbread just ask for "sumting a likkle dif'rent" and you will most likely get some commercial outdoor sativa that sells for 100 bucks a pound domestic. The dealer will probably try to rip you off too. Standard tourist prices in Jamaica for a pound of ganja is $150, the extra 50 for a tip for the middleman. If you pay any more than this, be sure you are gettin' ripped off

Here it is! Indica vs sativa. Some of you have come close. However, the point of origin is the difference. The point of origin determines the concentration of THC. OK, African "Blood" is the most powerful cannabis in the world. It is mild to the taste and hell to the psychic. There is no paranoia in Blood. Paranoia comes from the impurities in the soil, the amount of light, and the air in which the plant grows. In the West African rainforest, Blood grows in rich soil, ideal light, and natural, uncontaminated air. Man-made chemicals are the industrial polutants that contamanite Indica and Sativa. By the way, going by the ancient historical time-frame, Both plants are derivatives from Blood. Now, in a more recent time-frame we will say that Sativa is an independent species of cannabis. Sativa has a more pure history of being completely separated from Blood. Sativa has less power than Indica simply because Indica is a geographically closer strain of Blood. So, if you want to walk proud as a lion, go for the pure cannabis, go for the one whose residue drops from the firey end like thick blood.

there really isn't a difference in the way you need to grow either sativas or indicas; you only need to adjust to what each and every individual strain needs in the case of nutes.
and while loose soil can be good for roots, a confined space isn't. if a plant gets root bound it'll stunt it's growth or yield. have as much root space as you can give them and make a good mix; i'd suggest 3 parts soil to 1 part perlite for indoors and 2 parts soil, 2 parts coconut coir, 2 parts polymer cryatals and 1 part perlite for outdoors.
and i personally think that 5ft tall plants indoors is WAY, WAY too tall, no matter how much light you use. for good bud to light and grow room size, i'd suggest keeping them to 1 to 3ft max. nothin but fat colas!
unless the only space you have to exploit is vertical, then just make your lighting vertical too!

I dont know where you get your buds from but you are way off about sativas. Take a nice Toke of Nevilles Haze or Arjans Haze and you tell me then that Sativas suck.

Paranoid from Sativas? again way off. Indica and indica crosses is what causes paranoia.

Indicas do produce big phat nugs and I worte that in my first post. Most growers are only concerned with wieght and low flowering time so Indica is the way to go.
Luc Jaeger is also on about hitting the bong with a nice Indica cause it will ease the body pains and muscle spasms to the max.
Tradionally indica buds were never smoked as Buds, but were made into Hashish. Which is as Body Smooth and Mellow as it gets minus the paranoia.

A super strong Sativa like any good haze is by far the Creme de la Creme of Pot.

Yes it takes longer to flower but who really cares. The THC and flavor is the tops, with a soaring Heady, energetic high.

Ill take it your an older smoker who recalls the old dayz of Mexican brick weed. In that case you were right about string buds with paranoia probably from the seeds.

But todays super sativas are a magnificent blend of superior genetics that will blow your mind and get you really really "high" not couchlocked.

And norton420 is also right, especially when planted outside Sativas can grow up to and exceeding 12 feet. And when they fill out produced rather huge nugs.

bottom line is ...you want to work, work out, be creative or go and party...go with the sativas perferrably a Haze variety.

If you have Headaches, Bodyaches, Backaches, muscle spasms, and feel like staying in on the couch with a good movie or some doritos, Indica is the way to go

sorry man but i'd have to completly disagree with you.maybe the sativeas you get are shit, but not most of them. yes, sativas are from mexico, but that doesn't mean they're crap; look at alcopoco gold. sativa is a different buzz then indica. indicas couchlock you, where as sativas still allow you to do alot of work while you're stoned. it's a perfered stone for those with a busy schedule.
also, your point about sativas having small nuggs is also quite wrong. sativas have the biggest nuggs you can get due to their long flowering cycle, 9-12wks instead of 6-8 with indicas. now indicas can have tighter, rock hard buds, but their actual size is still smaller. and the sativa buzz usually isn't paranoid either.

Fishfood...maybe I'm spoiled cause I live so close to NYC but good weed is so easy to find its crazy.

The tough part of weed purchasing is that most growers are only interested in weight. Which generally mean a medium potency Indica that aint cured worth a shit.

Which means tough to break up and roll up, plus a really harsh Toke.

Indicas are my favorite for the end of the night , taking it down before bed-time or nap time, or for pain like backaches, headaches and muscles spasms. The smoke is generally thick and harsh and the high can only be described as

" I cant move off this couch. Good thing i have the Doritos next to me cause I wouldnt be able to get up and get them even if I wanted to."

Now any true Pot toker will tell you that for an active , super creative, and energetic High you have to turn to the sativas.
Perferrably some form of Haze, which is a genetic mixtures of 3 or more super strong sativa plants. This Weed generally costs more but the flavor and high are unmatched. In NYC and ounce of good haze can run from 400-500 plus.

bottom line is , anyweed is better than no weed. Speaking of which....This tokes for you.

hey, im trying to grow a bunch of kick ass bud outdoors, but i got a limited budget. anybody out there got a cheap idea for soil good enough to grow descent bud in. im trying to grow alot, so i need alot of something cheap. i don't think the area i live in's dirt is sufficient becuase i've been told it has alot of clay in it, and i heard that it's hard for a plant's roots to penetrate tough dirt like that, especially when they're young. im thinking about just ogin and buying a hwole bunch of bags of cow manuer (is that how you spell it?) tha'ts like 1 dollar for a 40 pound bag at the store, and just mixing the regular dirt with the cow shit 50/50. Assuming that im getting enough light,will this, combined with regular use of the miracle grow stuff that you mix with water be sufficent enough to grow some kb? any help will be appreciated. this is just my second time around, and last tiem i grew in the regular soil, and it turned out not being all that potent, so this year i want to do it right.

The question of who is better is awnsered by personal taste, if you like a subdued high and mellow indica is for you. If you like a more heady high and more euphoric high, stick with sativas.

After the living room classes I took from well known growers in Amsterdam, my find was the best answer comes from the smoker. Upon buying your smoke(as a normal smoker, buying is usually "don't really know where it came from dude, but I always get it from this guy I know, and it's pretty right on...ya still want some?) the best way to tell is the high. It's pretty simple.......the indica high is indathecouch. Fire up the PS2 & chill. The sativa, however, is just the oposite. My friends call it 'sativa power' due to the spring in your step. Good home growers can make the crappiest indica clone turn into Mighty Mouse cheese. Just takes know-how and some love(and cash). It's difficult for me to tell the difference just from the bud. So gather your friends (those who have some), and hold your own living room session. Happy smoking!

forgot that sativas generally take much longer to finish flowering than indicas, they usually flower 50-55 days give or take, sativas take upwards of 70, and generally speaking indicas are easier to grow than their tall lanky counterparts

while not as authoritative as "Pot Snob", i've always maintian that the basic difference between sativa & indica was the leaves. (don't laugh. sativa is a five (5) leaf digitate, while indica is a seven (7) leaf digitate. i.e. the sativa leaves has five digits, while the indica has seven.
