EVENTS: Standing Silent Nation - NYC Screenings

The White Plumes attempted to introduce Hemp as a restorative agricultural product on their Pine Ridge Indian Reservation – one of the poorest reservations in the county. Hemp does not damage the delicate plains eco-system and is also a crop that is being used more and more for everything from fuel to moisturizer.

One day before the harvest of their first crop, the federal government of the United States of America swooped down on the reservation with armored assault vehicles, helicopters and armed DEA agents in order to burn and destroy the crop. As a result of the White
Plumes’ repeated attempts to exercise Native American sovereignty, they now face substantial prison time from federal criminal indictment.

The film, “Standing Silent Nation”, is a documentary that records this struggle.
