MUSIC REVIEW: THE SAW DOCTORS
Nokia Theater – March 14

Hailing from County Galway, in the west of the Emerald Isle, this long-running outfit takes the old traditional music and makes it new again with crowd-pleasing flair. On their most recent swing through America, the Doctors made a house call right in the heart of New York’s Times Square, playing a two night stand for a sold-out crowd of well-lubricated countrymen, who sang along to every word. On Friday night, highlights included Red Cortina, Midnight Express, and the rarely played All the Way from Tuam.
The Saw Doctors head back home tomorrow, after a St. Patrick’s Day pilgrimage to Boston for one last show, but you can recreate the experience right in your own living room with a copy of Live in Galway and a keg of green beer. And if your wondering whether or not these boys have the luck of the Irish on their side, consider that in 1993 the Doctors’ keyboard and accordion player won more than a million dollars in the Irish National Lottery.
