CHRISTIANS & POT: A HIGH HOLY HISTORY
The story of marijuanas role in Christianity has long been suppressed. Today, the issue of the healing herb has resurfaced in both mainstream and fringe churches, despite its demonization by the evangelical movement. Chris Bennett explores this long, contentious history and asks: Will Christians ultimately embrace pot?

In February of 2003, HIGH TIMES published my controversial article, “Was Jesus a Stoner?” Shortly thereafter, the concept broached in the piece—specifically, the biblical references to Christ’s use of cannabis in healing—received international attention.
The article was a follow-up to an earlier piece in HIGH TIMES, “The Burning Bush” (June 2002), on the possible references to cannabis in early Judaism and Old Testament texts. This exploration followed the research of scholars like Sara Benetowa and Immanuel Low regarding the identification of an ancient Hebrew term, keneh bosem, as the etymological ancestor of the modern word cannabis.
As discussed in “The Burning Bush,” the first of these references to keneh bosem is found in Exodus 30:23, in which Moses is instructed by the voice of God—emanating from a burning bush—to make an anointing oil of myrrh, cinnamon and roughly six pounds of cannabis (“250 shekels of keneh bosem”) mixed into about a gallon and a half of olive oil.
While this “holy anointing” was originally restricted for use among the priestly class, centuries later the prophet Samuel anointed Saul, the first king of Israel, thereby extending the use of “holy oil” to monarchs as well. Thus, cannabis-infused oils became part of the coronation rite for Jewish kings.
However, with the prophet Jeremiah’s eventual condemnation of cannabis-infused oils and incense in conjunction with the fall of Israel and the loss of Jewish independence, the anointing rite seemingly disappeared from Judaism until its re-emergence years later at the inception of the early Christian period.
As I discussed in “Was Jesus a Stoner?”, the Greek title Christ is the translation of the Jewish term Messiah, which in English becomes “the anointed one” and makes specific reference to the cannabis-based anointing oil described in Exodus. In fact, there is evidence that many of the so-called miracles performed by Jesus and his followers were accounts of actual medical applications of this topical oil. Embellished over time, these stories became the miraculous healing tales of the New Testament—accounts that were written decades after Jesus’ terrestrial life had come to an end.

Our controlled substances are used to treat a variety of medical conditions, including pain, depression, anxiety, attention deficit, and even muscle-wasting. Many of these substances can result in overdose if used improperly. No one can overdose from T.H.C.. Where the problem comes from is the abuse in a substance. Christ drank wine, but warned against drunkenness. Unfortunately for me, inhaling a bowl of marijuana smoke damages the body more than drinking a glass of wine. So I feel I must use marijuana responsibly. Puffing on a cigar for a special occasion, for example: a birth of a child, or a glass of wine in celebration of an event is no sinful thing, but doing anything to excess where as it damages the body is sinful. Drinking or eating to excess is gluttony and results in a damaged liver or obesity. Smoking too much marijuana can also be harmful to your body by ruining your respiratory tract. Where the ultimate offence marijuana plays against Christianity is taking your #1 focus off a relationship with Jesus Christ and instead making something else your “idol”. It’s all about priorities; anything that gets in the way with your relationship with Jesus is the ultimate sin for a believer.
I struggle on how my use of marijuana looks to unbelievers. What are others thoughts, if you saw a Christian smoking herb? Do you think it makes them a bad example? I look forward to others thoughts on the subject.

My point is that I didn't believe vaporization was so great because I didn't have the experience and see it for myself. I mean after all, we see advertizments all the time, and know that alot of the claims made on different products are just not up to their claims, so I was a doubting thomas. I wonder how we can tell a blind person how beautiful colors are when they have no concept of the color that we see?
How can we tell the world about the beauty of cannabis, when they don't "see" it that way, as they have been told otherwise by ignorant blind people.
Love is under-valued sometimes here in the states, and probably the world, and I think cannabis can rekindle peoples connection with that love. It is truly great. The true meaning of the word anti-christ tells it all.

It would cost no more to grow, process, package, and sell a pack of prerolled jointe (20 to a pack) than tobacco. The sell them for $35.00 a pack You do the math. Billions would be generated.
Several things-keep the money out of the thieves in Washington, have accounting for who may designate where the tax money would go.
Finally, think of all the wasted money for prisioners busted for a game the government cannot possibly win. Rembember, we made booze legal to keep the money away from the criminals. what a complicated subject. Christianity as a whole has nothing against marajuana. since in the bible it talks about your body being a temple an not to destroy that temple. but, there are substantial reports proving that this herb has no longstanding ill effects. instead of it being a religious problem, it's actyually a question of morals. because, you see. since the reign of nixon, the king of slander, people have been informed that marijuana is a drug and that drugs will kill you. because of these false allegations people, including christians, have deemed marajuana bad. so, yes once the general public accepts that smoking a joint is half as bad as drinking any kind of alcohol then, yeah, christians will come around to the idea. now as to smoking for a religious effect,no. there might be some christians that go the way of the rastifarian, but as a whole it will probably turn out just the same as when alcohol prohibition was lifted. the casual joint after work.

For healing the catholic church would only allow one to bleed out their illness, sometimes leading to bleeding to death, or, wearing a bird mask.
Pope InnocentV111 singled out the cannabis user, putting them to death, proclaiming cannabis unholy.

I grew up Roman Catholic and attended catholic school. Thirty years ago the Church was teaching that drugs and alchohol use were not a sin, but rather put you at risk of commiting sin. Hence Noah and his drunkeness. As far as the whole pharmacopia BS that some evangelical's spout off, most people don't understand that at the time most medical treatments were a combination of pagan religious rites and psuedo medicine.

" Cannabis" with "Calamus" - calamus or sweet flag root was is a common perfume fixative It has a sharp distinctive taste if you bite into a dried root. Calamus has a characteristic pleasant smell and was readily attainable from the holy land marshes / doesn;t make sence to use pot in an oil base for the skin.. annointing was symbolic- a dab on the skin that had a nice smell.. . also no other people in the world used pot and olive oil mixture other than these stoner priests to get off, this is suspicious..
2) the mixture the stoner author leans on of olive oil cinnamon and myrrh ( myrrh resin is what baby jesus was given as a gift from the wise men) and 3 kilos of keneh bosem..-three kilos of sweet flag would be right to bring out the aroma of the cinnamon..
3) I believe super stoner Marc Emery once commissioned someone to make up a batch of this annointing oil as with the 3 kg of pot and had it applied all over his skin and let it soak in & reported there was no effect & a waste of good pot
4) Cannabis hemp was used for ropes and nets the poor knew how to grow hemp- in the hot climate of ancient Israel would have made a potent pot .. so what do Bible era Priests need a bunch on non- stoning pot oil for? they made fragrant oil not mystic stoner juice. How did Bible era stoner priests miss opium in the magic oil? there was plenty around

when i came across this guy on this religious station he sounded whiter than me somehow, wow.
It took me back in the days of dwendlin georgia when i was such a guilt ridden chatholic boy, i'm evangelical agnostic now.
