HeadQuarters
HeadQuarters began in a dank rehearsal space on 8th avenue in Hell's Kitchen, NYC. Through the stained windows and smoke filled room, the world took on a surreal hue in their power-pop filled vision. Guitars rushed with wha and phase; moog-ish synth landscapes transformed it into Shangri-La; thick vocal harmonies as commanding as the mighty Oz permeated; a driving rhythm section traced the skyline of the city; and the sound of HeadQuarters was born – a midnight afterglow of psyche-pop delights.
In September 2005, HeadQuarters issued their third release, the self-produced Get Your Head On (preceded by the soundtrack to American Mod, a film syndicated to the Sundance Channel, and Uptown Inside Out, both produced by Gordon Raphael of Strokes fame). Amplifier magazine described it as "jamming power pop into new wave and run…through their neo-psychedelic carburetor.”
Since then the band has toured across the U.S. and Canada, appeared on Little Steven's Underground Garage Rolling Rock & Roll tour at Irving Plaza in NYC, and had a triumphant show during the 2006 SXSW conference. Get Your Head On track "Tunnel Vision" is featured on the Northern Star Records (UK) compilation Psychedelica Vol. 1 alongside The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Electric Prunes, The High Dials, and The Black Angels, receiving reviews in Billboard, a blast of underground blogs and a 4 star rating in the UK magazine Uncut.
The forthcoming release O and O (June 5, 2007) finds HeadQuarters paired up with famed producer Kramer (Galaxie 500, Urge Overkill, Butthole Surfers, Shimmydisc) at the mixing controls, capturing the sweaty, smoky, sonic landscape the band created in that dank rehearsal room from the get-go. Lead-off track new wave/garage stomper “Daddy Longlegs” is the bridge between Get Your Head On and O and O while “Feelove” hints at what is to come – a shimmering cerebral mid-tempo groove with a chorus from the heavens. The closing track “Electric Sensation” is a mind expansive workout – a perfect remedy for a Sunday morning hangover.
