The 16th Annual Charlie Parker Jazz Festival reached its roaring climax in celebration of the legendary saxophonist Sunday August 24, 2008. The free festival, which takes place each August in two New York City neighborhoods where Parker once lived, spans a weekend and the gamut of renowned jazz musicians in homage to “Bird.”

 

The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival takes place at Harlem’s Marcus Garvey Park and Alphabet City’s Tompkins Square Park. This year’s lineup included: Robert Glasper, Rashied Ali, Vanessa Rubin, Charles McPherson and Barry Harris Trio at the former and Gretchen Parlato, Eric Lewis, Jerry Gonzalez and Randy Weston at the latter.
