We love Amsterdam and think all those that do just show up and have our own Cup. Sex, drugs and rockin roll is alot more fun than listening to cup officials or speakers put down America. The people of Amsterdam have always treated us nice during all our visits and we have always found good weed there so why pay $200 each as we did for almost nothing in return. Enjoy life everyday

It is good to hear reasoned opinions about the ccup many of which coincide with my own...that the cup this year really lacked/sucked and there should be a revision or other similar cups will arise and ascend in popularity. it has been great to look forward to traveling to europe to attend; however, if the same cup was here in san diego, i would not attend because the event itself(not the venue) is the attraction. thanks for the previous writer in offering alternative fests. The Quest?:to find the perfect strain that fulfills the smokers' criteria. Mine is: the perfect sativa strain, which offers a "soaring" high, body relaxation, no paranoia, and a means to find tranquility in daily living. later.

hey, heres some other fest's - the toker bowl fest in can. the bud lovers cuo also in can. the high life cup in holland, ceck it out on the net.the cannabis cup use to be a great partie , my sugestion to h.t's is to aim in the direction of some of the earlier cups just a few years ago , like those days of the pax party house.

hello fellow stoners. indeed the cup seems to have been down scaled.so then high times, hows about a response -coment on your behalf.this certainly is a reasonable request . readers i suggest to submit ideas , to help the cup over this lump. ie:" if money is the prob. then maybe it would be a good idea to hold the venue at a near by park under a big event tent."-this was one idea i have heard. -i thought to simply have a party of it all, that is lots of food , available bud ,all day every day semenars from the pro's , this all in a place thats comfortable and inviting (not hard desk chairs)maybe a decor like the green house would be cool.any way you all get the idea. thanks for the input stoners !

I've been to 9 cups and this was the worst one of the bunch. You would think that Hightimes makes enough money off the sales of the laminates and booth rental to be able to afford enough space for people to be able to move around. The Pax used to be packed, the Arena wasn't much better but this was the Madurodam of cups.
It would be nice it the cup returned to its roots and came out awards based on the quality of the samples and not on how much money the shops spend courting the judges. It's not a fair contest of the quality of the weed when the entrants colaborate to fix the results, dust their weed with polm, buy up judges passes and vote for themselves or close their doors to their regular customers during the cup in order to lower their prices and otherwise create an illusion contrary to how things are the other 51 weeks of the year.

We conducted ourselves with the utmost respect for Amsterdam and it's citizens. We were not loud, rude or obnoxious. The anti-American sentiment we got came after we placed our drink orders at a bar (not a coffeeshop). I guess as soon as they heard our American accents, they assumed we were the stereotypical "yo-yo, word up, hip-hop American idiots". Which, by the way, we are not. We did, however, see and hear those particular types walking around town.

Would like to thank Franco at Greenhouse Seeds for being there for my crew when we needed it. Would also like to thank Arjan for hooking me up with his man Franco. Its hard to meet friends in life, especially friends with something in common. Franco is a friend like that. We both love marijuana with a passion, when it boils down to it. See you when I see you my man Franco. I tried to get to you by e-mail cuz I lost your number. Peace If anyone ever stops in Amsterdam Greenhouse Seed Company is the place to be at. Stop by there and greet them, very nice people. Take Care and Stay Safe BushMaster P.S. Tell Sharon Thanks

Dont let majority of racist people over in Amsterdam ruin your trip. The only reason why they would say all that shit to you is because they hate living their own life. Ignore and party as you please.

I have been going to the CC for the last 7 years and although I thought the pax party house was a better location for the expo and forced people to explore other areas of Amsterdam, I was very happy to see that the Arena hotel was not used as the melkweg and coffeeshop owners complained that large groups of people never left the Arena. This is an opportunity to see a great city and I wore my badge proudly and after seven years of coming to Amsterdam, the anti-american sentiment is minimal if you know how to act. Chad, it was great to meet you and the girls. I'll see all my friends at Barneys, the Greenhouse and Rokerij when I return next month. Can't wait for the next cup. Steve H and HT gang thanks for taking it back from 420 tours. Steve, maybe you can work with the promoters at Melkweg and Paradiso to offer a small discount for badgeholders (5-10 euros) and have them book acts like Luciano, Karl denson or moe. I think that it would contribute to overall satisfaction levels.

Somebeach, I had basically the same experience. But, I'll attend again. Walking around finding the participating coffeeshops was a blast. I had traveled to Amsterdam before (2000), so I wasn't quite as lost as some first timers. Also, I was wise enough this time around to utilize the tram system. Last time I walked EVERYWHERE! I suggest hiding your laminate unless your in a PARTICIPATING coffeeshop getting samples, or at the Melkweg. Put it away everywhere else. The neon green lanyards stuck out like sore thumbs all over the city. I felt I was treated better at other places (gift shops, cafes, and bars) when NOT wearing my judges pass. I really hid it when returning to our hotel. It was a non-smoking hotel, and they made a point of making sure we knew that. I don't think stoners are too good at organizing events. Well, at least not while they're stoned, anyway. The entire event ran behind from the start. Registration was delayed like three hours. We stood in line outside the Melkweg forever. Then right as they were getting ready to let people in to get their laminate, shirt and guide, some assholes formed a second line to the left of us at the door! After standing there all that time and having some jerkoffs cut in, I was ready to stomp some ass at that point. Anyway, it was just unorganized. I feel I got enough free samples (weed & hash) and gifts (stickers, posters, t-shirts, lighters, pipes, etc.) to justify my $200... but just barely. I was initially upset over spending the two bills, but after reflecting on everything I feel it balanced out. I would like to officially offer my services for the next Cup. I have great organizational skills, and I'm very good at working on a schedule. If the Cup can get it's shit together, it can once again be the incredible event it once was. I know this isn't monster.com, but I'm trying anyway!! LOL

I attended my first Cup and wanted to compare some observations: The grass was mediocre. I know this is heresy and could be burned at the stake, but I went thinking that this is the ultimate event to find the best stuff. Not true. 2/ what was the $200 for? I could have visited the coffee hourses on my own, and schmoozed enough to extract a sample or two. And the Melkweg experience...it used to be a dairy...I can see how the herds fit right in. Not fun---packed like sardines. For what? one toke at opening ceremones? Next time, I will go to this beatiful city on my own, and use the $200 to explore and to find the state of the art sativa. Here in San Diego, we have primo stash sources, and with our climate, I have grown much better than I had at the Cup. Did any one else have these same heretical observations or am I a lone wolf?!

Galvestoner420

Dec 20 2004, 6:07 am

I felt a bit unwelcome in Amsterdam at times. I also kept my laminate hidden unless getting samples. I overheard locals at a couple of coffeeshops (one entered, one not) talking about all of the "Americans" all over the city, and how "rude" we are. One lady called us "brutes" to our faces. At a bar we were at, they played "Amerika" by Rammstein (about how we as a country are trying to turn the planet into one big America) a couple of times back-to-back! To make matters even more uncomfortable, all the locals were singing along. After that, they played "Killing In The Name Of" by Rage. We got the hint, and gotup and left.

Dec 19 2004, 12:54 pm

While being my first CC, this was my third trip to A'dam. I was Quite dissapointed in the cup itself. The goings on at the Melkweg were pathetic and some of the entries were a joke. After over-hearing some locals make unfavorable comments about the cup, I hid my laminate unless I was obtaining a sample. After chatting with the dealer in another non-entry coffeeshop, I realized the two guys at the nearest table were slamming the U.S. After those two experiences I kept my cup participation to a minimum and simply enjoyed my vacation.

On my return to Milwaukee, I purchased some hydro that was right up there with just about anything I smoked in A'dam. Of course, there was no free cd or t-shirt and I paid twice the price!

I love visiting Amsterdam and will continue to do so in the springtime, when I have been luckier with the weather.

Right on Viper!

Dec 19 2004, 1:51 am

Yes Americans got dissed for being responsible for the abomination that no self respected smoker takes seriously any more.
Viper I think you are probably on the mark. You dont really pass judgement and your opinion is backed with years of experience. Your report is pretty much what I expect from Stoners.
High Times has got to get a life. High Times is secondhand news. "Viper got bit" author, you are typical of the tripe that got Bush back into the Highest office.
I would say you are tripe for your comments but that would be insulting to all tripe in the world.

Steve Hager doesnt even attend his own festival I wonder/doubt he is allowed to enter the Netherlands.

I have been traveling to Hlland for the past five years with these observations.

Even without the weed situation, Holland is a lovely destination with a great hospitality industry to be envied and studied the world over. Basically, one cannot feel as free anywhere in the world as in Holland.

I tend to go after I have reviewed the Cup essays in HT. My last visit in April, lots of the winner product was exhausted and unavailable. I listened to the local opinions and came out ahead. One thing on my last visit, I did notice that the product available was stronger than in my previous visit. I dont know where the claims that quality is sub standard come from. The good stuff does sell out fast, esp the space cake. The prices have gone up some too but still seem reasonable (maybe not since the dollar de-valuation).

There are other Cannabis festivals that are surpassing the Cannibus Cup.
It's time to sound the alarm and make people realize that attending this event is for noivices. The competition is rigged. The same coffeeshops are winning and only the categories are switched.

I do miss the Dolphin. Last time I was there they had their permit yanked due to selling to underage users. I do respect Barney's and Katsu and always try to spend there.

I think there will be a natural decline of American visitors to the Low Land countries and Europe in general. Thanks mostly to the administration in power and devalued dollar, not because there is not good product to sample. The truth is that probably there is enough demand left in Europe that they wont really notice the absence of the USA traveler.

My last advice:
Say that you are Canadian. The imaage of Americans
tarnished
due to our involvement in illegal wars. The good thing is most local residents cant tell the difference between the british accent and an American one.

Dec 18 2004, 2:49 pm

epicurean has made a good point. Why come to Amsterdam, a great city, pay 200 for a judges pass, to sample average pot?. I thought I was alone in this observation. This was my second trip but now realize that the emperor really has no clothes on. Totally naked. The CCUP has admirable goals but it must have been organized by those who are...stoned. Poor exhibitions, and seed companies were charged over 5k just to have a booth, canal cruises non-existent, overly aggressive competition between coffee houses, the hint of free flowing grass at the melkweg, etc. Many screw-ups, when it could be so great. I hope the sponsors will attempt to make it better(after so many years one would think so). Next year, I will go on my own, to the Spanish festival instead or to some in Canada. But will still come to amsterdam until the law takes over and shuts the coffee houses, and seed companies down.

epicurean

Dec 17 2004, 6:35 pm

We go to Festivals like this to, hopefully, find the best there is. Naturally, when the product is poor(compare a good California cabernet with Night Train wine)and have come a long way, one is depressed. Some of the grass tested was really average-none really was the pure cerebral high that many of us are seeking. Some who go just want to get loaded and fall in to canals laughing...but not all. So, High Times--stop the hype or you will lose all credibility in the long term. Set standards, get impartial judges, spiff up the Melkweg, and have a world class Festival, instead of turning out so many unhappy participants who will spread the word and your time will be short. Hager, are you listening?

Dec 16 2004, 7:49 pm

The Cannabis Cup is what it is. If you try to make more of it you are fooling yourself. What is is? It is something we can only dream about. That is why some people may get disappointed about some of it. I personaly was hoping to see more promotions from venders. Sure go and shmooze it up with the seed guys and they'll toss you a sample gram. But what about everyone else? Also some of the little things pissed me of at the 13th Cup in 2000. In order to get the official T-shirt you had to buy a gram from all 20 some coffeeshoppes to get the stamps to fill the judges passport.

primostash

Dec 16 2004, 6:39 pm

Just back from the Cup in Amsterdam. The city is divine; but the hype surrounding the Cup is unwarranted. Expecting to find the very best grass in the whole world?...this is not the case. Here in L.A. the quality is consistently excellent. What I had there was of very poor quality in comparison. Hopefully a publication will emergy, that will be like the Wine Spectator, where impartial wine taster's rate wine by certain factors to give wine lovers an advantage. Now, we must contend with growers and seed companies that are creative in making up names, but are not reputably breeding the best strains.
No more Cups for me. I can grow better here. The search for the best Sativa continues...

L . B . Haze

Dec 16 2004, 1:52 pm

After years of wanting to go I went to the CC event this year. Expecting to judge the best strains in the world? Well I must be very jaded. The real winner of the cup was "THE CHEESE" Arjan's haze, amnesia haze were all 6's and 7's and that is generous on a scale of one to 10 The cheese was only a 9 it had real flavor and lots of punch. I was surprised that after all that navigating to all the coffeshops that you figure will make thier entries thier best buds, that best must have a different meaning to europeans or something. 90% of all the green entries in the cup had no or weak flavor. How about standards, like if the bud isn't great no chance of entry. I have smoked more buds in my small town america that would have won the cup on flavor and punch than all 21 of the coffee shops that had the nerve to enter the cup. Also judges pass is no longer necessary a visitors pass would get you all the stuff and info you needed to do the coffehouse crawl. Conclusion amsterdam is full of amatuers, growers wasting thier time on inferior strains, poor skills on knowing when to pull "mature" plants and drying skills are a joke. Someone threw out the Idea that all the buds were sifted for crystals I would give some credance to that conclusion. Importantly there is no true strains every seed grower is just making up thier names. One companies haze is not the same a another comanies haze. So If you are looking for real seeds of quality its just pot luck. because every body says thier seeds are the best but like thier buds they are far from what a real head might hope for.

Yea Minnesota Represent! Good to know there are other Tokin on those cold winter nights.

I have been to the cup 4 times 2 with a pass and 2 without.
I actually got into the Greenhouse without being a judge in 03 B/C I figured that Arjan (sp.) just figured I was a judge B/C I was American and I told him we left it back in the Hotel. Good times.
I really liked De Kaul or something like that. It was the closest to a bar Atmosphere. Real Relaxed and the made even change for Dollars VS. Euros.

The Vaporizer Guy

Dec 15 2004, 11:44 am

Don't complain that I didn't warn you when you are unable to buy the Hawaian Haze Icolator Hash or the New York City Diesel at De Dampkring. It was only sold to those with a Judges Pass.

A Judges Pass was also required at times at The Green House and also in Barneys Brazarie.

My personal experience was worth more than what I paid.
Free samples from Barnies Caramella Cream Hash, Barney Rubble Hash and Amnesia Haze herb. Greenhouse sample 2G Arjan Haze. Katsu herb Grinder, B-Cuzz about 100 dollars of nutrients. I personally loaded and reloaded 21 volcano vaporizers at the opening ceremony with an unlimited supply of Amnesia Haze, Killer Green and Jack Flash to name a few.

It's not about the money and the freebies. It is a time for us from the U.S. to Celebrate the Sacred Plant with others with the same beliefs. Not just Americans.

I Don't think I will live to see the day such an event can be held in the U.S.A..and is held in the only other logical place AMSTERDAM!

It is not the only Harvest Festival. I was educated by the Lady at The Cannabis college of the Hi-life festival. If anyone has a website or information please post!

I complement High Times for continuing this celebration and looking forward to 2005!!

Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Let's all work to improve it.

P.S. I wasn't crazy about those (Soma and St. Stephen to name a few) apologizing or complaining! But I accepted it!

I'm not a big fan of W but I accept it! I Don't think we need to apologize for it!!

PEACE TO ALL!!

I believe the minnesota crowd has got it right--spend the 200 in a'dam at the best coffee houses. after my 4th straight cup-just returned-have concluded that the ccup serves a purpose: a goal of displaying the "best" c in the world at any one time, the c that I grow here in California is better. However, this pipedream goal is corrupted by the extreme aggressive commercialism, and negative competition which is not in the spirit of one who seeks the best sativa high to allow the senses to be positive and to stimulate the sensualness music, food, and sex. (How could this possibly occur in the Melkweg?!).
I do also plan to return to a'dam but not as part of the Cup. I understand that there is a festival in Spain that is more to my liking. I plan to check this out.

Flower Up of Minnesota

Dec 14 2004, 3:02 pm

Thanks, Minnesota Mike, for your invaluable input! My ol' man and I are headed to Amsterdam next November, originally intending the Cannabis Cup as our primary destination (because after 20 years of raising the best we can (and for sure the best in THIS town), we feel we've earned the trip).

We will be joining other MN friends for this trip, and those friends have been to Amsterdam previously and are familiar with select coffee shops with which they've been happy in the past and frequent when they're in Amsterdam.

Perhaps we'll spend that $200 pass price elsewhere, and be less harrassed and have more fun doing so! Who wants to stand in line amidst general crowd chaos to get a free hit of weed? The moment is somehow lost, do ya think?

Your opinion, as Minnesotans in particular, is important to us - we're a rare breed no matter where ya go, and we all tend to think somewhat alike - at least us smokers. Thank you very much for your honest opinion! Very much appreciated.

I happen to find a Killer Green bean in a bag I got from Katsu. Strain wasn't great but at least I got a seed from a house strain which has no seeds available. If it werent for High Times Cannibus Cup I wouldn't have been there at that specific time. Once I taste this mug again its time to backcross. Watch out now Katsu. hahaha

They gave every judge free weed which was probably worth 50 bucks. Plus you got to sample free weed everywhere up in there for 5 days. What are you complaining at mike you tight bastard. Wait I forgot some people dont smoke enough to make there passes worthwhile. Peace

WE WERE A LITTLE DISSAPOINTED IN THE MELKWEG, FOR THE EXPO'S THEY HAD A LINE TO WAIT IN FOR 10 MIN JUST TO GET TO A FRIEGHT ELEVATOR THAT COULD ONLY HANDLE UP TO 6 PEOPLE! ON THE WAY UP, 10 ON THE WAY DOWN. ONCE YOU WERE THERE YOU HAD TO ALMOST FIGHT FOR A CHANCE TO TAKE ONE HIT OF FREE WEED. I'M STILL TRING TO FIGURE OUT WHY WE PAID $200 EACH, WHEN WE HAD TO WALK TO EVERY COFFEESHOP AND PURCHASE THIER ENTRY JUST TO TRY IT. MOST SHOPS WERE IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND, I'M SURE IT WS THE WEED.TRING TO FIND THEM WAS THE BEST AND THE WORST TIME!
OVERALL AMSTERDAM IS HEAVEN ON EARTH! I HAVE NEVER SEEN SO MANY SEXY WOMEN IN MY LIFE! THERE IS MORE SEX,DRUGS,AND FOOD THAT ANYONE COULD EVER ASK FOR. MY ADVICE IS, IF YOU WANT TO GO TO A CC, THINK TWICE ABOUT PAYING FOR THE JUDGES PASS. YOU COULD PAY FOR ALL THE WEED YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING SMOKE WHEN YOU BOUGHT THE DAMN THING.

I have enjoyed my ritual of flying to Berlin then a train to amsterdam for the ccup. I have just returned from my third straight cup. However, this is enough. My main purpose in going is a quest for the best, the soaring-pure-cerebral high, much like tasting the best wine one can find. The C Cup is highly disorganiZed, this year especially, disappointing exhibits, paltry samplings, and the Melkweg is just not big enough to handle the herds of people.

Best to use the c cup as the beginning of an evolution of fests such as this to one which is less competitive, in a more human environment, where the goal still remains to reward those who have developed state of the art cannabis. The new process for hash making seems to be revolutionary and the inventors noted.
For me, I will searching for the festival which is less aggressive in its marketing focus, more relaxed in its setting, and where the goal is to find the perfect sativa(or a mix skewed toward sativa) and the perfect, blissful high.

Dec 11 2004, 5:19 pm

Growing and breeding are two different topics. You need to be a good grower in order to be a good breeder. Some breeders can't grow well, and some growers can't breed well. Some breeders never perfected growing, so long term they will suffer when making new strains. Some breeders take wild guesses when breeding and some take educated guesses from experience with the particular strain. Pay attention to the ones that stabailze strains, as they are the one making the educated guesses. Visually you can look at samples of varieties you've seen yourself mastered down to perfection and compare the two similar strains. Whenever I cross new samples I make sure to remember it while im smoking it, so in case I come by the same strain elsewhere I could recollect and judge. Phenotypes from seeds do vary the taste, but visually you can tell if the bud is grown correctly, taste wise you can taste if its done correctly also. There are several companies from Amsterdam that possess both these skills. By the way you have to be a regular daily smoker to breed and grow well. Thats a fact. Reason for this is altering the nutrients you feed your plant can alter the flavor of your bud. For example AFOAF has a strain that he could alter to smell deadly skunky or he could choose to alter the foods he feeds it and comes out with a tamed down fruitier version of the same strain that taste better. There are many breeders now that think they're too good to smoke pot. Luke from Paradise Seeds is one. Luke still has the best seeds because they are all stable. The samples Luke was handing out was from a poor grower. I don't know who grew it out for them but it sucked period this year. All his seeds are amazing none the less. Peace

rensanceman Personnally for me I have a sativa perference as well. I enjoy the northern lights X Haze best. I think it is the pinnacle of breeding achievement. Can be grown outside in the midwest.
and buds have time to mature.
Haze is just the best damn sativa out there and croosed with the nl its absolutely awesome.

Back from my third straigt c cup. This year I finally came to the conclusion that the c in Amsterdam is not a quantum leap better than what I can grow myself...and I am a devoted amateur. This year I grew several J. Herer, and Haze plants as I prefer sativa, and it was just fine compared to the creme de la creme touted this year: amnesia haze, killer green, jack flash, etc). Seed growers please develope a strain which offers cerebral clarify, sensual body feel which intensifies the senses. I personally prefer the ones which intensify the sexual senses.
Amsterdam is a great european city to visit. However, I now realize that I do not have to be a "judge" to do the selective sampling that I can do on my own via the coffee houses.
If any of you can recommend a strain which you have tried that meet the above criteria (for a sativa) please post. r

Youngin, smoking is fine. Channeling it and your energy into a creative force is one of the secrets of the universe.
Learn how to blow glass and make pipes, which is harder than we think. Go with what you know.
Iron Butterfly did a song called "Inna Godda Da Vida" (spelling?), and their guitarist was 16 years old. He was incredible.
Smoking sometimes lets us put off things until "tomorrow", and that's when the trap door opens and we fall through it. I've been there, done it. Couldn't take my own advice.
Sounds corny, but "Be excellent !"

I have no sympathy for the post before this one. Hey kid, EVERYONE over 15 years of age was 15 at one time in their life. Besides, perhaps you might want to think about... oh... i don't know... graduating HIGH SCHOOL before you get into weed!?!?!? For god's sake, you're too young for weed anyway. Yes, overbearing parents and school do indeed suck, so get through it, make sure your life is straight, THEN smoke weed. That's what i do. Weed's only a good thing if it's an augmentation to a good life that you've already made for yourself. It shouldn't be an excuse for responsibility or merely "something to do when you're bored." Just remember that... Sincerely, YO DADDY.

I went to the Cups. So I spent the weekend doing a web search for "Cannabis Cup" reviews.
First,I think the comments here of people who went were , overall, fair and accurate.Especially the negative remarks, sad to say. I've been going for years.
I suggest reading the review of "BushMaster" at everyonedoesit.com . It is a good capsule of what happened.
Icmag.com is peppered with somewhat biasd remarks.
Overgrow.com seemed biased.
I found (and lost) a post by "Nol " that talks about the treatment received by the owner of the first Coffeeshop in Amsterdam from HT , which pretty much says it all. Anyone know this link ??

Another cup over and another one missed. CONGRATS to Barneys - 4 category winners, including the cup - WOW!!! I went to A'dam in 2001 but was not an official judge. I dropped my bag off at my hotel on the Leidseplien and headed for the only shop open - Barneys. After a great breakfast I sauntered over to the herb table where there was one HUGE tupperware of that years entry - 'Barneys' Sweet Tooth'. Thinking 'what the fuck', I purchased my full legal limit (5gms) of Sweet Tooth and went back to the bar to roll up - that first toke was sheer heaven! 4 hrs later (where the hell did that time go to?) I staggered out and went back to my hotel - still no room avail. No prob, just walked back to Kerkstraat and went into de Rokerij and burned up some more 'Tooth', via a bong. 2 hrs and many bongs later I finally got into my room - Immediately hitting the sheets & NOT TO RE-AWAKEN UNTIL 5 P.M. THE NEXT DAY - WOOF!!! After staying for the entire cup and sampling most of the official entries (at least those coffeeshops that I could find) I pronounced 'Sweet Tooth" as MY pick - and got it right. I'd planned on judging in '03 to celebrate my retirement from my gov't job and the constant threat of the surprise piss test but had too many home repairs to make that yr. Was all ready to go this yr - until the $/Euro exch rate went thru the roof. Hopefully, the rate will go back down and I'll be able to make it in '05 - I have plenty of miles on my frequent flyer account so transportation won't be a problem. Unfortunately, the knees are getting bad so I'll have to find a cheap hotel that has a lift (yea - right!) as there is no way I can handle those cursed Dutch stairways any more. All that being said, when I do get over I will be going as an official judge - just to experience the full experience of the cup. To all those bloggers bad mouthing this event - GET A LIFE! The whole gig is about the experience of the cup. Hope to see you in '05!!!!!

I attended this year's Cup, and I must say that I'm on the fence about the whole thing. I went to Amsterdam in 2000, and did NOT attend the Cup. We arrived the last day of the event, and we still had a blast. We actually scheduled our trip this time to attend the Cup. Our $200 basically bought us a laminate, shirt and a book with a map of the coffee shops entered. Only a few coffee shops had free samples of their entries. Most places you had to buy your sample!! What did I pay $200 for???? Kudos to Barney's!! Their samples were free AND were the best of the bunch! Amnesia Haze (weed), Barney Rubble and Caramella Cream (hashes) were all great! Arjan of Greenhouse reminded me of an American politician. He greets us at the door with a sparkling white smile, shaking hands, posing for pictures with everyone, all the while proclaiming himself the "King of Cannabis". I took my handshake and sample (Arjan's Haze) and made my way to Prix Dami. Which, by the way, had free samples of their hash (Honey Tree), free hash pipes and lighters! Also, this was just about the biggest place we visited. Lots of comfortable seating! But, I must say that Blue Velvet from Blue Velvet was the most odd smelling and tasting weed I have ever smoked/seen. It wasn't the most powerful or anything, I just wanted to give them a mention because their entry stood out due to it's unique smell. I WILL be back in Amsterdam, I just don't know when, or if I'll pay to be a judge again.

I had no idea. In the end I voted for Cheese. That stuff rocked me. I was definitley happy to see it in the top three. It made me feel like I really did make a difference. Sorry for all those who didn't like us Americans. Greenhouse does NOT have a seed company.
They DID,now they do NOT...

They do NOT sell seeds.
The Dutch government forced Greenhouse to stop producing seeds YEARS AGO.
Who's trying to kid who,here?

WHY were they entered in this facet of the competition?

C'mon guys, you want to be taken seriously, then explain this.
It's bad enough that Greenhouse has been known to fix Cups in the past, but letting them enter in a category they don't qualify for,the SEED COMPANY Cup,and likely doing it using one of their coffeeshops commercial clones,is BULLSHIT.
Every year, something new from Arjan, owner of the Target of coffeshops....(Bulldog's Wal-Mart,lol!)

Congrats to all the legitimate winners, but it's crap like this that dims the overall good vibes of the proceedings.

La Confidential smelled good and looked good, was also grown good but sucked in strength of flavor. The flavor is nothing new. The growers were good though, just the genetics weren't that great. Same deal with killer green. SOMA where you at with the bomb diesel. La Confidential sample looked like it came from aeroponic style system also. Potential of strain was maxed, except for the cold weather causing it not to get as dense. Stressin plants causes them not to taste as good, but when stress is from cold weather it still gives an effect on the flavor but not as detrimental. Depending on strain the effects can be little or very significant.

They will also confirm that my sister wasn't there. That's cool if you want to try and diss on me but let's not get out of hand and why don't you leave my sister out of it?

Well if the product don't work whats the use of making it? Also saying all men think with their d?cks is ridiculous. Barney Rubble was very nice for power, but was lacking overall taste. Helter Skelter had a musty smell which came through in the taste, but lacked the kick of what Barney Rubble hash was offering. All hash is pretty strong, so in my opinion I vote for tastier hash. Too bad there wasnt any Nyc Diesel hash?

P.S. I'm still in Amsterdam, and Caramella Cream has dropped Euro 3/gram to E 15, and Barney Rubble has dropped Euro 10/gram. Other places also use "special" Cup prices that go back to normal now. Not rapping Barney's, 'cause I do like 'em... just the facts.
P.P.S. Cheese from Homegrown Fantasy took third with no advertisment at all, and was good. Their courier was busted at Centraal Station by dogs and had the stash confiscated coming into town from (???), and they ran out of Cheese and still took third.

Yes,Bong Buddy is a take-off from an aquarium cleaner, but it showed Chad wasn't just sitting around getting stoned.
Yes, they used sex appeal to sell their product.
Yes, people fell for the sex bit, since it's 99% male attendees who think with their d**ks.
Yes, I was there. No, I didn't vote for it.
But I congtratulate them for doing something that required an effort and a risk.

I seen Chad wearing a pink furry hat at the cup this year. Maybe you should wear some pink slippers to match your hat. Chad only won because he used females to sell sex. His crew consist of him and four females selling sex at the cup. He himself wore a pink furry hat, like as if he was a pimp. Funny cuz one of the girls from his crew was his own sister. The High Times Cup is not about sex. Its about having good products. Next year dont look foolish Chad.

I experienced the same phenomenon with the bong buddy. gz you hit it on the spot when you put chocolate as an example.

gz

Dec 1 2004, 1:58 pm

Buddy! = Chad

If you notice that a fish aquarium has internal filters so the algae that your cleaning actually gets filtered out, where as a bong you do not have any filter. As you use the bong buddy and clean your actually breakin the debris down in the water. Like having cocoa powder and mixing it with water to make choclate milk. The more you mix the more it breaks down finer and smells and taste like chocolate even more. Common sense says it starts to taste like old bong water more cuz your mixing it with the water breaking down the debris finer. Also when using cleaner never ever vigirously shake, gently shaking does the same scrubbing action but less energy. I tend to run hot water through first than empty out all the water and use cleaner after. The Buddy was also stuck after one session with 1 other friend. Thats 2 people in one session. While we did not clean while in between uses because if we did it starts to taste more like bong water as you clean it. So why would you wanna clean it while using to taste dirtier water? Also Chad you are the one acting like Albert Einstein. So you open yourself up to target. Its common sense what I have just stated. Now think about that Einstein. Thanks for the tip also Glasshole

Dear complainers, (I ain't mad at ya) ~
I own a Zong (now called Sour Design) BongBuddy helps me get all over the bong without plugging the slide and the top and in some cases the carb and vigorously shaking for several minutes. Besides saving money and using less cleaner, having Buddy stuck to the bong raises my awareness and encourages me to clean and change the water more often. Residue builds up slower because each time I smoke I do a quick cleaning. We never claimed to sterilize the bong, or eliminate resin altogether, but for many people including myself, it makes it a little easier. I have a large saltwater aquarium, with a similar magnetic cleaner and while the device doesn't eliminate the need for occasional water changes, it does keep up the appearance of the tank and make the heavy duty cleanings less challenging. Buddy also it makes a handy little stash, and at only 10 bucks it wasn't designed as a technological miracle...just a cool little thing for stonerz.

The best cleaner is kosher salt and rubbing alcohol - does the trick every time.

Dump salt and alcohol in your bong, shake around for a while and rinse clean.
You can also use the mix in ziplock bags to clean glass pipes.

You can clean a large glass colletion for about $10.00

Chad you genius, why would you need a bong buddy if your using a cleaner? Cleaners these days work, but what stays is the residue in the downstem. BongBuddy doesn't bring nothing new to the table.

gz

Dec 1 2004, 2:13 am

forgot to mention the bongbuddy does come with two extra velcropads if you need replacement. I wonder how much replacements cost.

gz

Dec 1 2004, 2:08 am

BongBuddy works for 2 cleanings but it is useless due to the fact that bacteria develops within 24 hours of stagnant bong water... It is not a disinfectant. I purchased one also at the cup. It also does not work on pieces with millis, some double bubbles wont work also. The magnet gets stuck from resin build up so it stops working after two usages. Becareful when you bring the magnet up to it, because the magnet jumps and hits the glass pretty hard. If you do not own thick walled glass, than you should not purchase this. The magnet has a pretty strong kick when it hits the glass due to its tiny size and strong magnet. Scale from 1-10. I gave it a 10 when I first purchased this unit. I thought it was a smart idea. After using the item I give it a 3, because you still have to disinfect the waterpipe every day.

In my opinion bongbuddy is useless if you use cleaner. Also after you get gunk on the velcro what do you do, replace the velcro? Just sounds like a waste of time to me. Bring something useful to the table for the smokers. Anyways, great cup, had a good time, hope 05 is much better.

To: chad?, yes nu-clear concepts haz a website: www.nu-clearconcepts.com OR www.TheOriginalBuddy.com you can check the site or email for info...Buddy is a magnetic glass cleaner, drop it in your waterpipe and scrub those hard-to-reach placez (use with your favorite cleaning solution) ***weird, my namez also chad - I hope you're not actually MYSELF from the past, because if that were true then I haven't even won the Cannabis Cup yet...and if you're ME from the future, then that meanz you smoked away all your memories, and you have absolutely no recolection of me (I mean us) winning the Cannabis Cup...hmmm anyway yes we have a website, and good work on discovering a way to travel through time!

The amsterdam experience was great, the people there are so beautiful, even without the budds,. I enjoyed the Cup, though the americans I met were a bunch of morons,. The only thing that sucked was the euro conversion.

You you werent there and you are opening your mouth? lol First off champ, Amnesia Haze was on the menu in august seeing as i was there then. Secondly the Barney Rubble for this summer was made soley from Silver Blue, unlike the cup entry which was a mix of amnesia haze and laughing Buddha. Were you at the cup, you would have know this or if you at least read what i had wrote. You should only write about things you actually know about.

BARNEY RUBBLE HASH!!

Nov 30 2004, 12:23 pm

LIsten Kweirdo1, I was told that the Barney rubble Hash was made by taking 1000g of Silver Blue and coming up with 60g of the finest hash known to man. When I went Derry (Owner of Barney's) said that the Silver blue was the best weed in the 'Dam and it sure knocked me on my ass. I don't even know what happened to the Silver Blue. Was the Amnezia Haze even on the menu in August?? Go Silver Blue!!!

Thanks be to High Times for yet another great cannabis cup.
I enjoyed the Amnesia Haze and was glad to see it take first. Although I did enjoy the sativa high of the Barney Rubble (Amnesia Haze and Laughing Buddha Bubble Hash) I must admit I am disappointed in my stoner brothers adn sisters for not giving first to the clear cut winner in the NederHash category, Hawaiian Haze Ice from de Dampkring. Never in all my years have i seen such a delicious, melty, thoroughbreed like that. Eventhough de Tweede Kamer entered a hawaiin haze bubblehash last cup, this one was the single best cannabis product ive ever smoked, FMCD and no oil added.

Peace to all!

Go Get em' W! 4 more years!!!
Fuck John Kerry and all who supported his lying, communist ass. By the way I didn't try the Amnezia Haze but I did try the Barney Rubble when I was there in August. WARNING: NOT FOR NOVICES! Did I mention fuck John Kerry and all you communist hippies that voted for him??

This was my first cup (not the last) and I didn't really know what to expect, "is all the ganja included in laminate price" and when i heard it wasn't i was a bit worried about the value for money I was getting. IT WAS WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY! It was my fifth time to Amsterdam and was very nice to have an organised itinerary that certainly helped the stoned decision making on where the next destination will be - Milky Way for some bongs and vapourizers. Wicked live acts and shows - purfect stoned entertainment. I didn't meet any other British judges, which was a shame because there are soooo many stoners in Britian having to smoke shit soap busting with all types of contaminates or wank weed (an expensive bag of stalks) that has almost no thc content. Spread the word free the herb x x

All last minute like the stoners we are.... Next year should be GREAT!

I'm not getting into what could be better and what not. Daytripper crew will be happy to work even closer with HT for Cannabis Cup 2005.

We really enjoyed the Cup and thanks to all who put it together. Maybe next year in a bigger place would be nice.
The people of Amsterdam for the most part were very friendly and helpful to us.
I did have a problem with Americans being on stage and putting down our country in another country. We have real problems here but I for one am very proud to be an American and dont need to say I am sorry for our country. This was not the place or time to discuss politics and I for one think America does more good than it does harm. George Bush and John Kerry were not my choice for President and I voted for the constitutional party but as one speaker said our elections are rigged it shows how little they truely know about how elections work here. John Kerry if you really know anything about him is a liar and out for only himself. Bush is not much better but at least I feel safer with him being elected. Those that voted for Kerry were only voting against Bush and not per say for Kerry. We need better candidates in all areas and need to remove all self serving men and women from office. For all those who spoke against America I say lets work hard to change the system and not bad mouth our country. What country in the world does more to help others than we do? We are taxed crimnally to help those unwilling to work and produce and to help needy people. We pay our share plus to the world. I had to leave the room when a few were on stage bad mouthing our country and I was not there to have my country put down but to enjoy life with good people from all over the world. Again thanks for everyones hard work putting the Cup together and we plan on attending next year but please keep the putting down of America out.

My 4th Cup.
I'm sorry I didn't get around to Barney's but I thought the Northern Light Haze X5 from the Rokerij was the best. Didn't like the NYC Diesel, but the new favor was a nice change.
El Guapo had a strain called Powerhouse that was pretty good. Not on the menu and you have to ask for it. I was actually disappointed with the quality of all the coffee shops. We seem to have better in Chicago. Respect goes out to all the Midwest growers. Peace.

Thanks so much to everyone who attended the 17th Cannabis Cup! The event was a great success, I met stoners from all over the world - Japan, Alaska, California, Spain, Brazil, Finland, Arkansas, Yellowknife (Canada), and I can assure you that HT is listening to your suggestions on how to improve the event for next year. The situation with the "cozy" Expo space across the street was indeed a last-minute compromise, as the we had reserved the 2nd & 3rd floors of the Melkweg for the Expo, but two days before the Cup began the Melkweg booked a film festival and we weren't allowed to use the space! Luckily we were able to find a substitute, and next year we will insure a spacious area!

Thanks to Sneaky Will for the great boat tours, Donna, Larry and Todd for their kind assistance at the registration desk, and all the Judges! Hope to see you next year.

Yeah The Cup Was OK! It really is too bad though that still due to lack of organization things hcould have been a lot better.

Anyways. After last year HT needed to gain some trust again in Amsterdam. This worked out and it didn't. Due to the high prices etc, many people did not enter & a lot were not even informed about the Cup this year because there was a lack of space, which doesn't really make sense to me...

On the other hand the overall Vibe was good. I think everybody had fun.

Next year, Bigger & Better!

Oh man was that fun! I had a great time at my first Cannibas Cup. I met so many great people. Plus heard some really great seminars by Soma and Arjan. My thanks goes out to Barney's for making the cup such a wonderful experience. Amnesia Haze and Caramella Cream were my top choice, so I am glad to see they won 1st place. They were well deserved. Thanks to everyone who helped set up the Cannibas Cup, I really appreciate it. Hope to see you next year!

howdy weed fans!!! this was my first experience going to the cup. the whole shabang ROCKED!!!! Cannibus Cup this year was amazing!!! I could not believe the invention by nu-clear concepts.. The original buddy is the best invention ever made to clean any size glass peices.. I just got back today and I tried it out on my bong and it has never been that clean before.. I hope that everyone realizes, as much as I have that this product is the best cleaning device ever made for glass.. THANK YOU NU-CLEAR CONCEPTS, for bringing such an amazing product to the show!!!! And that little part on top with the scrubbie pads inside, so intelligent!! You could put a million things in there!!!

the old lady and i had a great time. We did however, get the impression we were the only ones that voted for Bush!
This was our 1st cup, 2nd time to Amsterdam, coffee houses VERY crowded, its nice to go when its not so crowded, much more intimate.
Jorge Cervantes' gave an awesome slide show and great grow tips!
Hopefully will be able to return to Amsterdam next year if the euro/us dollar exchange rate improves.

1st Cup. It was hard to goto the events and goto the coffeeshops and try everything. I always ended up getting so stoned I just stayed at the coffeeshops and had a great time. MK-Ultra at Amnesia was the best, but not on the Ballot. The Barney Rubble hash was a fantastico. I thought I would never say this, but as much ganja that I smoked, i think I need to c h i l l..(just for a bit)
