HIGH TIMES PRESENTS 2005 STONY AWARDS

HIGH TIMES handed out the magazine’s 5th Annual Stony Awards for movies, television and dvds on September 28 night at a stoner-studded show at Spirit.

Adrianne Curry (“My Fair Brady”), Kal Penn (“Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle”), Christian Campbell (“Reefer Madness”) and Tony Alva (“Lords of Dogtown”) were among the many stars that accepted their awards at the show. The Stony trophy is a glass bong.

Curry came with her boyfriend and “My Fair Brady co-star, Chris Knight. Texas Ranger (and former New York Yankee) pitcher Steve Karsay also was seen in the VIP section

Also accepting awards were: Sony Pictures Classics’ co-president Tom Bernard (“The Passenger”), producer Jeff Rougvie (“Bill Hicks Live”), sound engineer Vince DePaolo (“Family Guy”) and director Cevin Soling (“The War on the War on Drugs”).

Presenters included: directors James Toback (“When Will I Be Loved”) and Gillian Grisman (“Grateful Dawg”); comedians Jackie “The Joke Man” Martling and The Greg Wilson; and NORML executive director Allen St. Pierre. Tony Camin (“The Marijuana-Logues”) hosted the show.

After the Stonys awards, the Danish band the Blue Van played a set of garage-style rock.

“It’s always interesting to see who attends the Stonys,” says HIGH TIMES editor and Stony Awards producer Steve Bloom. “Because of the nature of the show’s subject matter—marijuana in particular and drugs in general—we get a very cool crowd. I was especially excited that Adrianne Curry and Kal Penn attended. Plus, one of the highlights was Tom Bernard and Gillian Grisman smoking a joint on stage!”
