Let me tell you something, no matter where one goes in the world, people love HIGH TIMES! On my latest swing through summer jazz festivals in North America and Europe I’ve found that nothing brings a smile to people’s faces faster than telling them I’m covering all of these cool cultural experiences for HT.

Festival Review: 31st Annual Montreal Jazz Festival

Story by Mitch Myers

Don’t call me unpatriotic, but I wasn’t in the country this 4th of July, once again choosing to spend nearly two weeks in Canada for the annual Festival International de Jazz de Montreal – their 31st celebration to be exact. Spanning 12 nights with almost 400 free, outdoor shows on nine different stages and almost 200 more ticketed events for a solid variety of indoor venues, this is one of the biggest jazz …More

FESTIVAL REVIEW: 30th Annual Montreal Jazz Festival

Story by Mitch Myers

This past Independence Day, I was fortunate enough to attend the 30th annual Festival de Jazz de Montréal. After clearing customs, checking into my hotel and formalizing my press accreditation, I headed straight down St. Catherine Street and ducked into the first head shop I saw. Buying a nice piece of glass, I told the shopkeeper, “I’m here for the jazz festival and last year you helped me out, could we do …More

The 16th Annual Charlie Parker Jazz Festival reached its roaring climax in celebration of the legendary saxophonist Sunday August 24, 2008. The free festival, which takes place each August in two New York City neighborhoods where Parker once lived, spans a weekend and the gamut of renowned jazz musicians in homage to “Bird.”

FESTIVAL REVIEW: The 2008 Montreal Jazz Festival

Story by Mitch Myers

The Montreal Jazz Festival has been an annual destination of mine despite the fact that the music programming gets a little more watered down every year. The festival runs for eleven days straight and over the Fourth of July holiday, which adds to its allure as a music-cultural escape. Remember, Canada isn’t in a state of war like the USA, and smoking weed doesn’t seem to be that big of a deal. As a matter of fact, a trip …More

FESTIVAL REVIEW: The 2007 Montreal International Jazz Festival

By Mitch Myers

Once again I found myself faced with a decision: What to do for the 4th of July holiday? After much deliberation, checking my press credentials and my bank balance, I finally decided that the most patriotic thing I could do was go to see Bob Dylan play at the Montreal Jazz Festival on Independence Day.

It wasn’t just the Dylan show that I was going to attend. The Montreal Jazz Festival ran from June 28 until July 8 with over 650 performances, almost 400 of them …More
