Ricky Williams Is Hoping to Heal Others, and His Image

Source: www.nytimes.com

KENDALL, Fla. — The latest milepost on what Ricky Williams calls his spiritual journey is an acupuncture and massage college tucked inside a strip mall, above a video store, next to sandwich and liquor shops.

Here, where the study hall is named after the philosopher Lao Tzu and one room contains some 300 Chinese herbs, Williams is a massage therapist in training, a running back who generally hopes to avoid contact on the football …More

Miami Dolphins' Williams Avoids Temptation During Bye Week

Source: Miamiherald.com

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano told his players to ''stay home'' and keep out of trouble during their three days away from the NFL grind last weekend. But he could never demand each player not be tempted by trouble.

And that's what running back Ricky Williams admitted happened to him, if only for a few moments.

Williams, in the NFL's substance-abuse program since 2002 and having tested positive four times, said Monday he was briefly tempted to …More

Suspended NFL RB Ricky Williams to seek reinstatement next month

MIAMI (AP) — Suspended running back Ricky Williams is eligible to seek reinstatement by the NFL after Oct. 1 and will do so, his lawyer said Friday.

Williams, who played for the CFL's Toronto Argonauts last season while under suspension, has played only 12 NFL games since 2003. His current suspension began in April 2006 after he violated the league's drug policy for the fourth time, and a positive test for marijuana this April delayed his return.

Williams' lawyer David Cornwell said …More

Report: Ricky Williams Fails Drug Test

The Miami Dolphins may have to wait a little longer than expected before Ricky Williams is allowed to join the team.

According to an ESPN report, Williams tested positive for Marijuana in April. Williams, who was suspended last year for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, was eligible for reinstatement this month.

The report says that the NFL's medical advisors have informed commissioner Roger Goodell about the positive test and have recommended that Williams not be allowed to apply …More

Ricky Williams Violates NFL's Substance Abuse Policy Again

DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Herald is reporting that Dolphins running back Ricky Williams has once again violated the NFL's substance abuse policy and is facing a one-year suspension.

According to reports, Williams faces a one-year suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy for the fourth time in his seven-year career.

It does not mean that Williams necessarily failed a drug test, but that he might not have taken a required test.

Ricky Williams Not Ready for NFL Return... Yet

As a certified personal sports columnist, I take some of my responsibilities seriously.

These responsibilities include reminding readers that mixing fluid from Barry Bonds' knee and Shaquille O'Neal's hematoma would be bad. Doing so might initiate a chemical reaction that obliges the subject to blame the media for Kobe Bryant.

But recent reports are threatening to require an even greater form of assistance from guys like me.

The sports personality requiring this assistance is former Miami …More

Ricky Williams Quit Smoking the Marijuana Weed?

Can it be True? Has Ricky Williams quit smoking the wacky tabacky? It wouldn't be the first time that a spiritualistic weed head drops his habit in the name of furthering his internal growth.

Williams, who has lost nearly 30 pounds since retiring from the NFL, made the statement he had quit using marijuana in front of several people during a meeting regarding his paternity suit involving former South Florida resident Cherie Clark. Ricky said that he quit using the substance because it wasn't …More

Ricky Williams Feared Public Reaction to Marijuana Use

Former Dolphins back to be on "60 Minutes"

Former Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams told CBS' "60 Minutes" that he retired from the NFL out of fear of public reaction to his third failed test for marijuana.

Williams, who led the NFL in rushing in 2002, gave up $5 million in base salary when he quit a week before training camp in July. Under NFL rules, he would have been suspended for four games for repeat violations of the league's substance-abuse policy.

"That's the one …More

Ricky Williams Rejects NFL Offer to Return

Ricky Williams has refused a proposed deal with the NFL that would have allowed him to serve a four game suspension and return to the active list next season. Instead, the former Dolphins running back who announced his retirement just before the start of training camp this year will remain out of football.

'David Cornwell (Williams' attorney) informed our office that Ricky Williams has declined to accept the terms of his reinstatement,' NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.

Cornwell e-mailed a …More
