HIGH TIMES Medical Marijuana

I was standing on a Miami street corner in deep shock after my van was totaled by a lady who ran a light at full speed. I could barely figure out how to use my cell to call my wife and ask her to call a wrecker to tow away my sweet little old 1993 Villager when I got an incoming call from Art Tifford, my long-time attorney. “Mark Phillips has been kidnapped in Chile and returned …More

Smugglers Catapult Pot Over Border

Smugglers in Mexico got medieval in an attempt to transport pot over the border and into Arizona. While crafty smugglers have used myriad techniques to get their goods into America, including intricate tunnels and low flying aircraft, the method discovered in the town of Naco last week was unlike anything a U.S. Border Patrol spokesman had ever seen.

Forty-five pounds of pot, an SUV and “a metal-framed catapult” were seized by the Mexican military after being tipped-off by …More

Ultralight Aviation Popular Among Mexican Pot Smugglers

According to miamiherald.com, Mexican pot smugglers are increasingly using ultralight aircraft to fly loads of marijuana into the U.S. Pilots don’t land but instead drop the packaged marijuana in remote locations for ground crews to locate.

Despite the dangers of piloting such an aircraft – essentially a glorified hand glider with a small engine and rear propeller – at night without using lights, smugglers along the boarder are reportedly making such flights several …More

The War on Gringo Billy

Having spent his early years growing up on a farm in Union County in the north of Florida, William Dekle, a.k.a. “Gringo Billy,” dreamed of being a cowboy like Rowdy Yates, Clint Eastwood's character in the early-'60s TV show Rawhide. His career path changed when he was 16, after he took a bus down to Miami to visit his cousin Reggie. Reggie had a student-pilot's license and took him out for a night flight cruising back and forth over Magic City. Farm boy that he was, machines …More

94-Year-Old Smuggler Busted at the Border

The elderly are more active today than ever. Case in point, a 94-year-old woman who recently told border agents that she was intending to leave Mexico for the day and venture into Arizona to do a little shopping.

For some reason, the nice nonagenarian (someone in their 90s) aroused the suspicion of authorities and was detained for a closer inspection.

As it turns out, the woman had 101/2 pounds of pot fixed to the lower half of her body (perhaps this is what aroused …More

Will South Dakota Vote for Medical Marijuana?

• Perhaps South Dakota will become the 15th state to legalize the use of medical marijuana. Earlier this week the South Dakota Coalition for Compassion submitted 32,000 signatures to state election officials – 17,000 signatures are required to place a measure on the ballot.

Officials will now begin verifying the signatures that resulted from over a year of pavement pounding. If the final tally meets the state’s requirement, South Dakotans will be able to vote for …More

Busted at The Border

The 29-year-old warrant (for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute) came up during a background check and landed the septuagenarian in custody. Cole will now face the nearly three decades old charge in New York. (upi.com)

Case Closed on “Hippie Mafia” Smugglers

By Nick Schou

The strange case of the so-called “Hippie Mafia,” the longest, most surreal saga in the annals of American counterculture, is finally over.

On November 20, Brenice Lee Smith, the last remaining fugitive from the legendary band of outlaws known as the Brotherhood of Eternal Love, pleaded guilty to a single charge of smuggling hashish from Afghanistan to Orange County. In return, the Orange County District Attorney's office, which had originally …More

"Hippie Mafia" Hash Smuggler Arrested

By Nick Schou

Thirty-seven years ago, the biggest raid that had ever been staged in America's war on drugs took place when a task force of state, local and federal law enforcement agencies combined to take down a secretive group of hippie acid dealers and hashish smugglers known as the Brotherhood of Eternal Love. On August 5, 1972, cops in California, Oregon and Maui arrested dozens of people, sending an even larger group scattering around the world in pursuit of an …More
