Roast Beast

On a hot, muggy summer evening in the Lower East Side, the Bonghitters waited…and waited for their opponents to show up. They began to wonder whether the Daily Beast got lost? Considering the final score, the Beasties likely wish they had never found their way to the field. The last time the teams faced off, the Hitters put up 26 runs on them. This time they only gave up nine, but did not score themselves.

The Green Machine got it going early, scoring quickly in the 1st inning. …More

HT On The Radio

“Make sure they are on the grass”. That’s what the Ump told Dan our stand-in manager for the day. Don’t worry Blue, we were! The streaking Bonghitters beat up WNYC last night with another double digit inning. This time, 13 runs in the 4th . They put up 17 runs against The Daily beast two games ago.

Dan mixed up the lineup, and it produced quickly as Abe got on and was knocked in by Damion for the first run of the game. The Hitters loaded the bases, but only …More

Mother Nature Turns Out the Lights, Bonghitters Settle for Tie

Vanity Fair was ready to make a better show of it this time around as they jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one inning. The last time we met, they whined about our players and called them Bongringers.

It was amusing, but terribly inaccurate, to say the least.

This game was an interesting test for the Bonghitters. It was the day after an emotional victory over their archenemies BuisnessWeek. Would there be a hangover? As it turns out, not really. The Bonghitters scored in …More

Bonghitters Take Suits to the Cleaners

It got a little chippy on the field tonight as the Green Machine defeated their arch-rivals, BusinessWeek in extra innings. There were a few strange antics by some of the suits: a runner at third base tried to interfere with some bush-league nonsense (didn’t work). And another suit who was called out at second refused to leave the base. (Bad day at the office perhaps?)

BusinessWeek got on the board early with two runs in the first and one in the …More

Green Machine Grinds DC Comics to a Pulp

DC showed up for our rematch wearing some pretty nice threads—new jerseys with an image on the back of Batman swinging a bat and smacking a softball. Geek alert. Guilty.

The game started slowly, with no runs in the first three innings. In the fourth, a rally spliff was spoken about (Kryptonite Weed), and just like that, the Bonghitters hung a crooked number (4) on the board!

The fifth inning brought more of the same as the hit parade continued with four more runs and …More

Bonghitters Shot by DC Bullets

The DC Bullets Jolted the Bonghitters with an upset victory 5-4. After leading by three runs in the top of the 2nd, the Bonghitters put it into cruise control. Credit the Bullets for playing tough. They showed some grit, plating one run in the bottom of the 2nd, and three more in the 3rd to take the lead.

Jeremy tied the game in the 5th with a blast to right center for a HR. However, the DC pitcher settled down and retired the next three. The Bullets came back with a triple a …More

College Humor Flakes out. Bonghitters take it out on "Parkies"

The Bonghitters third game was supposed to be against College Humor in a nonleague affair. Unfortunately, they chose not to show. Was it a joke? Maybe they are weather wimps (it had threatened to rain but ended up being a gorgeous evening) or maybe they heard about our legendary prowess and didn’t want to get their butts kicked.
So there we were on the Great Lawn with a field to play on and no team to play against. We decided to have a split squad game “Team A” vs. “Not …More

Green Machine Reaps Benefits From 4th Inning Harvest June 1st, 2009

The second game on the Bonghitters schedule was against our old friends, the “Veefers” from Vanity Fair. On a sunny but slightly chilly evening our heroes continued their quest to recapture the NYMSL crown after losing it in last year’s championship game.

The Bonghitters scattered several hits in the early innings, but did not manage any runs.

It was a pitcher’s duel early on as Rundown Rick did his thing in a shutout as well as crisp d …More

Bonghitters Undress GQ In Season Opener

At last the 2009 softball season is finally upon us. The Bonghitters have returned for a run at the 2009 NYSML championship. First game was on to their home field in Central Park where the Bonghitters posted a win against GQ. The first inning was a smoker with 4 runs from the top of the Bonghitters order. The pretty boys of GQ were no match for expert fielding highlighted by a beautiful double play started by Dan D. who tagged the GQ batter at second then threw to first to get …More

Bonghitters Fall Short in 2008 NYMSL Title Defense

The Bonghitters seemed to have more fun, even though they lost to Businessweek for the NYMSL title this year. All the pressure was on Businessweek, that powerhouse squad of suits who went undefeated this season, and lost only once since last year. And that was against The Bonghitters for the 2007 NYMSL Championship.

Businessweek for years was a punching bag for the “Green Machine” but no longer. They have assembled quite the lineup. But having said that, this was no …More
