3 Beginner Grow Tips of the Week | June 13, 2017

Simple net trellis systems add excellent support to a home garden.

Tuesday’s tips for beginner growers are brought to you by High Times Cultivation Editor Nico Escondido.

1. Using 4” square mesh netting as horizontal trellising over a garden canopy is a great way to boost yields. Training top branches to grow up through the trellis adds support and aids in growth, but also separates the branches for better light penetration.

2. Topping, or pinching off the top terminal shoot of a plant during the vegetative phase, leads to a growth hormone release within the plant, creating many more top cola branches. This is an excellent practice when combined with trellising to increase yield.

3. Strains high in the terpene myrcene will illicit a more sedative, indica-type effect on the body. Oddly enough, many sativa strains are high in myrcene.
