Walmart sells T-8 or T-5's buy that with a cool white lighting, natural light. Its like a 2700k bulb.
You will be able to use that all the way through veg stage. I
mounted mine on the sides once I started to flower. Used 400w hps for middle, or center of girls, cfl's on the sides.
Hope that helped......

I also want to comment concerning adds High Times post. I feel like just anyone shouldn't be able to advertise."We" tend to believe in these company's, only to have a bad experience. Maybe some sort of screening, or holding these company's accountable?? It is my personal opinion that you do an excellent job and I love the stories, articles, and everything else about High Times.
Thanks again....Keep the world green and grow

An organic method of bug control is using soap suds.Put Ivory flakes in some lukewarm water and work up the suds into a lather. Then put the suds over the plant. The obvious disadvantage is if you don't rinse the soap off the plant you'll taste the soap when you smoke the buds.
Hope this was a help and thanks again to all the people who give advice.

straightdrop-cutting the fan leaves off your plant wont kill it but slow it down.the plant uses the leaves to gather light witch obviously makes it grow stong so dont cut them off unless they get yellow or damaged

-humidity levels are optimal between 40%-50% if its too low plants will be dryer in leaf moisture and will attract a little more pests outside, and if its too high it will slow growth on plants and produce powderey mold.
CHIEF-
when leaf tips curl up the plant is telling you its thirsty! trywatering more often and checking the temp in the plants area 72-82, 77 is optimal

growing in the dark: most strains are 56 days (8 weeks) of flowering...since theyre all different and I like to grow a few strains at a time, I can't keep track sometimes so I wait till the pistils change colour. They will all be white for the duration of the flowering cycle while you're feeding her nutrients every second watering, etc...once you first see red/orange pistils, cut off the nutrients, give each plant a good flush (3gal of water per 1gal pot) and then just feed straight water until about 1/3 of the pistils have turned orange and the resin heads have started to turn cloudy instead of clear...leave them any longer and you'll get less of an uplifting high and more of a couchlock high...
Jones: did you give at least one and a half to two weeks of straight water before harvest? If your plants are stinking like lawn clippings, then you might have fed them nutes too long without sufficient flushing...
stevexr: I've never tried hydro but have inquired many times as to the best way for a beginner and I was always told flood & drain, or NFT (nutrient film technique)...these are also the cheapest way. With flood and drain, most of your supplies to construct the system are inexpensive, except for the pump (which you will need a good one because any system failure in hydro means dead plants without immediate backup power)..NFT just requires a cheaper pump, and the rockwool cubes are just set atop channels of continuous nutrient flow on a slight incline..

why are my leaf tips on my x18 curled up like there praying? they do it most after i water or feed. it cant be a MG deficiency can it? i just planted them. theyre not even 3 weeks old. all soil and nutes are new. PH is around 6.0-6.5. Temps around 74-80. but on a hot day will raise to about 87. One fan and two open windows so oxygen isnt the problem. (too much perhaps?) Im workin with the poor mans setup. 4 foot six bulb T5 fixture with mixed bulbs. I will also flower with this light. Foxfarm ocean forrest mixed with perlite. (I really need to learn how to make my own soil...) General Hydroponics Flora Nova Root Boost, Flora Nova Veg. Sea kelp, and a PH solution which is also made by general hydroponics. Before i go shooting her up with epson salt i want some second opinions.

Jones: Any local gardening stores in your area? Im lucky where I am because there is 3 places within 20 mins of me that can sell EVERY supply I need for growing my stanky, green 'tomatoes'...and anytime you go in one of these shops, you say its for tomatoes and you can put that paranoia in the back pocket..growing tomatoes follows almost ALL of the same principles as growing the hot diggity so it makes for a great cover...
CHIEF420: The best thing I can think of is cutting off their light source. Ever see mushrooms growing in a lawn? When they get outgrown by the grass and lose a light source, they die off naturally. You will always see mushrooms as more of a problem on a shorter, well-manicured lawn...
so here's what I would try...find a naturally safe hydrogen peroxide that is safe for plants...give your soil a good spray and work around the top few inches of soil (mushroom spores form a 'web' of fungi that connect to form mushrooms)...work it around good then put white 'light-tight' plastic over your pots. Dont let ANY light get into that soil and if they can't get any light since they are a fungi like algae, they will die off...this goes the same in rockwool cubes to prevent root rot and mold. Keep it covered and you should see those shrooms die off, hopefully..Also, I have never grown with LED. Ive asked a couple professional growers about it and they have all told me that the technology hasnt caught up to the hype quite yet and that the cost of an LED is astronomical compared to MH/HPS...I use MH and HPS and I couldnt be happier with the results...You might be able to change your pot and soil but youll mess up your root ball pretty good, leading to major shok and stress to your plant...what stage is it in? Can you veg it for a bit and take clones for clean soil? I can only imagine your plants already stressed to begin with, and trying to change the soil and pot would REALLLLLy stress it out. PLants are like people and dont deal well with stress...

I started with just 4 3ft 'natural sunshine' bulbs, some plain soil, and chemical nutrients from home depot. I now use those bulbs for my seedlings, a 400W metal halide bulb for my veg stage, and a 400W high pressure sodium for flowering (although I think Im gonna upgrade to a couple 600W HPS cause Im kinda of limited in how many plants I can grow with just a single 400W).
I used the chemical nutes with shitty results and not the greatest taste, then I tried botanicare ProBlend the second time, with mixed results. Good taste but it jacks the pH too high and that kinda fried my plants a bit. THe one VEG fertilizer I cant recommend enough is Wegener's Organic. This shit is like steroids for your plants! And all natural, and it has all the vital nutes your plants needs. Trust me, this stuff is amazing!
For flowering I now use Green Planet Wholesale (copy and paste this http://www.mygreenplanet.com/files/u1/ultimate_feeding_program_hy.gif)
That link will give you the exact feeding schedule you will need, but dont buy everything they have on the list. It will give you a simple feeding program and a pro one. For example, I sub in Wegeners for their veg formula, but then I use the Aussie, Massive, Karbo-boost to help the buds get thick and juicy, and then XXXTreme uptake to help your plants to be more pest/mold resistant, and ProCal to avoid any calcium deficiency. I know it sounds confusing, but get that chart and everything you need to know is on there (desired pH, lights on and off temps, humidity)...have a look

Flavor blazer: read above. If you dont know what sunshine mix #4 is, neither do I. I just went to a garden supply store. Tell them youre growing tomatoes, works everytime. And if theyre 'cool', theyll know what ya mean and probably give ya alot of helpful hints and pointers..
growing in the dark: if theyre brown, theyre probably done for. What kind of clone gel or powder did you use? Ive only cloned once and I found keeping those puppies warm and moist is the key. I hope I dont need to ask, but did you use a humidity dome and open it once a day to replenish oxygen? Hope some of this helps...
2high2die: put a net across that will not only support the cola, but it will 'pull' back and fight the plant from shooting straight at that light..where do u live? I know alot of companys are sketchy about sending to the US but with Obamas vows of removing federal involvement in marijuana busts, chances of them busting down your door are pretty slim. I ordered from bcseeds.com and the Big Bud seeds I got are outta this world! Big fat colas and the sweetest skunk smell that makes my mouth water...so try ordering just a few seeds from wherever...most companies are very good about shipping in discreet packaging. Ive never been let down, besides gettin bunk seeds once...
hope some of this helps with the buds, buds...

FLavourBlazer: How well hidden do u need your closet? Mine is in a room with a sealed window and the only ventilation I have is the air that travels from that room into the rest of my place (smell is taken care of with an ONA neutralizer). If youre only growing 4 or 5 plants then ventilation shouldnt be a problem. One human just breathing gives of plenty of co2 for the plants to take in...just make sure you have osciallating fans to move the air all the time and thats all the ventilation you will need. Just DO NOT have air blowing on the plants steady, keep the fans turning....

Also I have them on a 16 hour light, 8 hour dark lighting schedule because I read in the high time magazine I have, that's the best way to produce more females.
They get watered every time the light comes on, and are misted with a spray bottle ever so often when needed.

DANGEROUS B: is your nutrient/water reservoir light-tight? Meaning, when closed, can light be seen through the reservoir? If so, then the light is causing algae to buildup in your solution which is BAD for your plants. Wrap that container in a couple rolls of duct tape, spray paint it with flat black paint, do whatever you need to make that container so the solution is DARK and algae-free. A dark rubbermaid container would do the trick. Also, go to a pet store and get an air pump and air stone to keep water (oxygen AWESOME for roots) constantly moving to discourage algae build-up.

Questions:
2 ladies, 1 plump 1 tall.
soil in greenhouse. hot weather, well loved.
1) is it better to water the plants with fish tank water.
2) the lower leaf ends are yellow will fish tank water stop this.
I water my ladies twice a day once in the morning and once at night. Very warm days and warm nights, it is getting colder as the season progresses.

NEWBUDS: First of all, if your're growing in soil, you're not gonna want to water everyday. Spend $5 and get a moisture meter from walmart and it will keep you from overwatering. If you overwater, you 'drown' the roots of oxygen and kill your plants with too much care.
After you switch to 12 hours light/12 hours dark, you'll see buds within 2 or 3 weeks. Make sure you weed out the male plants for seedless bud. Size won't really affect how much it smells so obviously the bigger the plants, the better the bud. A 12" plant could give you nearly an ounce if you 'top' it at 2-3 weeks into veg. I grow a closet of tomatos and my garden of 18-30" plants gives me a good .75 to 1.5 oz per plant. Just get good nutrients and keep it dark when it should be dark.

Good beginner guide to growing, although bottled water isnt what you want to use for germination since it contains most of the same alkalines/minerals as tap water. Use DISTILLED water...

Here's my beef: For my second crop, I decided to try some well-known strains by ordering my seeds internationally through a certain company that rhymes with 'Shingle Marijuana Sheeds'. I ordered 10 regular aurora indica seeds, and 5 white dwarf feminized autoflowering seeds for a total cost of $125 Canadian. The seeds that they sent me could have easily been confused with black pepper seeds. They were grey, dry, NO dark stripes, and when it came to germination, completely useless. Only TWO of the auto-flower seeds even showed a root, and within 3 weeks in rockwool (kept moist and checked on several times a day) they were dead. I sent an email to this company just to ask why their 'top quality seeds' were so weak and that bagseed I had sitting in a drawer for nearly FIVE YEARS showed vigorous growth. They simply said 'Our seeds are for collection only and that I probably contaminated their seeds because they turn them every 2 weeks.' Well, so much for a company standing behind their product.
Sorry to drag on and on but I have a moral to this story. If you are trying to grow for yourself, DO NOT ORDER SEEDS. There are zero guarantees for over-priced seeds that will probably not grow at all. Thankfully, I was saved by a friend who has a larger operation and needed to move some of his smaller plants (3 weeks into flower) so I was able to restock my garden with 14 high-quality white rhino plants, and only 5 to 6 weeks from harvest. Remember people, avoid seed banks and if you do have to use seed banks, look into cloning and keeping mother plants. It will save you a fortune in the long run, and you will always have a garden stocked full of beautiful, female plants. Love you here in BC, High Times, I couldn't have done it without you. Keep the earth green, grow your own bud, buds.

it sounds like you definitely got a hermie in there. The only thing you can do is keep a close eye on them and pull any with little pods on them (while buds starting too) I have one idea , which I'm doing - I have my lights on at night and off in the day to keep the temps down. Other than that you're doing good - peace out

I hate to re-"hash" the past, I'm sure this subject has been beat to death. But, I'm new again, and alot has changed.
Back in 1984, just before the Rush concert started at the Leominster, MA Colliseum, I par-took of several pipes full of Lebanese Blonde Hash, What a great concert! I'm looking for that stone again, now that I have my medical card.
I have a couple of questions tho:
Why is "blonde" hash blonde? Dried and cured weed is green. Is it a certain strain or is the plant left to die out completely like they do with corn. OR...is it just the tri-chrome color after sifting.
What is the strain, do they have a modern day version of it with even a higher Tri-chrome content. Not only do I want it to taste the same but I also want it too look the same.
Why does Lebanese hash have such a spicy tone too it, Is it a filler (sandlewood, maybe) If so, what is the percentage of filler vs weed.
Does anyone know of a book or internet search where I can find the exact process.
I think I can figure out the sieve process (like bubble hash?) and the pressing part (stick it between two pieces of wood, and jack up my car, ha!)
I appreciate the help and guidance, I wish everyone the very best of health and happiness.

I've been burning down forests for years. Never have i had any awnsers to why mary's multiple personalities effected me in such a myrid of ways. Reading yr tips to grow on was not only inlightening but completely enjoyable reading,.. Thanks for the insight, and the laugh, i'll be naming my fisrt growing spurt after you and will never look @ the lovely maid mary with the same eyes! By the way, for those of you smoking dry harsh buds, try a nickle size piece of grapefruit peal per 1/4. You can use apple, pear, orange or whatever, i've used them all but for me GF does the best job and provides the best tasting results.

Newby, it depends on how many plants you have. That should be ok for 2 but you probably want to get a few more lights for around the base of the plant. CFLs need to be with in a few inches of the plant so keep that in mind
