GANJI'S GROW JOURNAL -- Day 201

Planted 5 more Sweet Tooth seeds early this week. All came up by day four. Had to remove the seed shell from one that couldn’t break free on its own. Aired out the test clones in humidity domes. Some algae starting to grow on the surface of the Perilite, but the cuttings look okay. The cuttings in soil just aren’t doing anything. Decided to allow it to dry out for a day between waterings. Rotated the potted clones this week. The NL#9 looks great. The two Sweet Tooth clones look weird. The leaves are malformed and they’re trying to flower. The Sweet Tooth is just terrible cloning stock. Pruned the NL#9 clone mother way back this week, added some fresh topsoil, and watered. Ganji’s cloning problems continue. The new technique may hold some promise, but I’m concerned about the algae. If it gets to out of control it will compete with the cuttings for nutrients and starve them to death. He may need to look into some type of algaecide to keep it under control. Otherwise it’s a valid cloning method. It’s probably time to give up on the rest of them. The Sweet Tooth is trying too hard to flower to concentrate on root formation and the standing water and soil are just too wet to promote fast rooting anyway. As for the potted clones, he’ll have to do the best he can with them until the new sprouts are ready. --MAX

Same story in the flowering chamber. The three older plants are all Sweet Tooth clones and have had problems from the git-go. Tried everything to save them but to no avail. They’ll finish in a couple weeks, but won’t be that good. Had to prune away a lot of dead stuff from one. Most of the branches are drooping and scrawny on the others and all of them are staked up and supported because the stems are weak and small. The two NL#9’s I put in recently are in excellent shape, but the Sweet Tooth is starting to show the same signs of trouble that her sisters did. Took it out to the sink and flushed it good.

Sometimes even the best care can’t help a plant that doesn’t want to grow. The Sweet Tooth clones have long since passed their prime having been auto triggered to flower several weeks before they even went into the flowering chamber. I expect that the rest of the Sweet Tooth cuttings will have the same problems. It’ll set back Ganji’s plans for a perpetual harvest but at least he’s discovered the problem and can take steps to correct it now. --MAX
