The Beginner's Guide to Outdoor Guerrilla Growing

Growing ganja in the great outdoors requires patience, stealth and a year-round commitment to provide for the needs of your plants and plots. A proper understanding of the requirements and tactics necessary during all four seasons will result in bigger yields and heavier harvests.

WINTER

Choosing Your Spots

Winter is the perfect time to find new guerrilla grow spots. Where you choose to plant is by far the most difficult and important decision you’ll make. If you’re lucky enough to have secluded property of your own, by all means, plant there, however most growers will have to go “guerrilla” to get their crops. While we don’t encourage growing pot on public property, we recognize that it happens and all too often, growers are making misinformed decisions on where to plant that lead to plant discovery or worse.

Find places that are unlikely to have visitors of any kind throughout the year, whether they’re hikers, hunters or campers. That clearing with the telephone or electrical lines may look like a great spot, but it won’t be so ideal when the grass mowers or wire repairmen show up midseason. The best spots are hard to get to - like the center of a thorny bush cluster or a remote cliff that’s off the beaten path.

It helps to have an alibi such as bird-watching or fishing and carry things like binoculars or a tackle box to enhance the charade. Look for southern-facing slopes and keep in mind what your grow area will look like from above. Police choppers fly around in almost every state looking for outdoor grows and you don’t want them spotting your precious plants.

Try not to make a path that’ll lead others to your plot – take different ways in and out if you can. Also consider a nearby water supply such as a river, creek or lake. Water weighs about 8 pounds-per-gallon so you’ll want to reduce the distance you have to carry it as much as possible. I’ve seen some innovative backpack watering systems that help ease the burden. Unless you get steady rain throughout the year, there will come a time that you’ll have to bring water to your grow.

If you want to put out sizable plants, winter is the time to root the clones or start the seeds indoors under some grow-lights. It’s always better to put out larger more developed bushes for plants that yield pounds instead of ounces. The healthier and stronger the plants you put out, the more you will get in the end so keep them happy and thriving.

SPRING

Putting in Plants

inline

Once the winter starts to wind down and the threat of frost has passed, it’s time to prepare your plants to go outside. Acclimate them to the stronger sunlight by placing them outside for a few hours per day if you can. Gradually increase the amount of time spent outside in the sun until you’re ready to put them into your chosen outdoor space.

Box up the plants and bring them out to your growing spot. Now is the time to dig a deep hole and drop some pro-mix or coco-coir into it as well as any organic additives and amendments. Mix in some perlite and water-absorbing crystals for a lighter mix that will still hold more moisture for dry times during the coming summer. Roots will thrive early on making for stronger plants that are able to handle the weight of massive buds.

Remove the plants from your containers and plant them into the soil-mix in your holes. Backfill the plants with mix and water them in until all of the mix is moist. At this point, it’s a great idea to use some preventative pest control in the vicinity such as a slug barrier to prevent the slimy scourge or some predator urine or soap to discourage deer from eating your young growth.

Some growers use chicken wire to create a barrier for their plants. Deer in particular, love to eat young cannabis sprouts so if you’re in an area with deer, this is always a wise precaution. Make sure your plants get enough water in their early life so that roots don’t dry out and kill the young bushes. Outdoor plants need strong stems to withstand winds and heavy rains. Branches that lay on the ground will soon rot. Weak stalks should be tied to a stake or trellis in order to stay upright.

SUMMER

Keeping Plants Happy

inline

Summertime is crucial to the development of healthy strong branches that will support the weight of swollen buds later. Heat can become an issue and drought will kill plants before they have a chance to grow. Any time it doesn’t rain for more than 10 days or so, plants will need to be watered. If you chose a spot near a water supply, you can use a cheap manual pump to flow water to your crop. If not, be prepared to carry in enough water to saturate roots completely. Add some nitrogen-heavy nutrient such as liquid fish or seaweed to this water to supplement the nutes already in your soil-mix.

Other than watering, always check for pests when you visit your plants. Look on the undersides of leaves and along stems for any damage and examine the whole plant thoroughly. Any infestations should be dealt with immediately - Don’t allow slugs or bugs to ruin your nugs.

If you planted seeds and not clones, they should be showing their sex towards the end of the summer. Remove all males as soon as they appear to avoid filling your female buds with seeds. Male flowers look like tiny banana pods and females show white hairs coming out from the nodes where branches meet stems. If leaves begin to turn yellow, add more nitrogen-heavy fertilizer diluted with your water.

This is the time to pray for rain. In fact, you should always celebrate summer rain showers in whichever way you choose. Those rains mean one less visit to your guerrilla grow as well as bigger, stronger plants in the long run. Rain during the summer is your friend, come fall however…

FALL

The Road to Harvest

inline

As fall approaches, you’ll need to add some flowering nutrients and supplements in order to optimize your yield. This is a perfect time to sprinkle some bloom-boosting bat guano around the root zone and water it in. Flowering plants require flowering nutrients so remember to go easy on the nitrogen and look for products with added phosphorous and some potassium.

Autumn is also the time that humidity will cause bud rot to invade your colas, turning perfect buds into a mushy mess. If you can, shake accumulated rain and moisture off of branches whenever possible. As a last resort, some outdoor growers harvest early once they’ve witnessed a mold attack that they can’t fight.
As fall colors begin to turn and frost approaches, it’s time to plan the actual harvest. Pick an overcast morning or evening to avoid running into anyone and prepare your mission carefully. 5-gallon buckets make great containers for trimmed branches. They seal up some, if not all, of the strong odors of fresh-cut pot plants and conceal them from prying eyes as well. Be sure to but branches in with the cut end down to avoid crushing your cannabis cargo. Cut your plants down to branches that fit into the buckets and work quickly to take them down and get out. Get your harvest to a safe location and start the trimming and drying process there.

After harvesting, some organic growers like to bury a dead fish or two in the bottom of their hole. This organic material will decay and produce available nitrogen when you start back up in the spring. For now, relax, enjoy the fruits of your labors and start thinking about some new spots for next year…

SIDEBAR
Getting Advanced Outdoors

inline

For years, outdoor growers have been looking for slow dissolving time-released nutrients specially formulated for pot plants. Widely available products such as Osmocote and Miracle Gro sticks last long but are meant for a variety of plants and thus not ideal for cannabis. The scientists and researchers at Advanced Nutrients have solved the problem with their newest product, Heavy Harvest.

Heavy Harvest is a three-part nutrient that needs only three applications during the growing seasons. Separated into Spring, Summer and Fall formulas specific to the growth needs during those times, Heavy Harvest specially-coated and concentrated pellets are designed to break down slowly and feed the plants throughout their life-cycle. The nutrients are pot plant specific and buffered so they’re released slowly and effectively for advanced growth and huge yields. For continuous feeding and only three visits a year to your garden, try Advanced Nutrients Heavy Harvest on your next outdoor plot.

jungljim, If you look at the area where the stem of the leaf meets the stalk of your plant you will see a bananna type ballsack with no hairs patruding out of it if its a male. If its a female ,it will have one or two hairs sticking out of it. This will show usually when the plant is about a month or two old.

STEVE,what I do is cull over my mother plants twice durring winter and spring then put them out at the end of august to get a quick harvest. Also, you can grow a sea of green outdoors if you have the clones from your mothers. I clone my mothers about the beggining of August airoponically with an E_Z cloner. about the third week they are ready to put into Fox Farm soil. I root them for a week then place them in the grow site. I go to the site regularly to fertalize with a bloom nutrient. Happy Harvesting at the end of OCTOBER

pollination, what you should do is keep your pregnant female out of your grow room. some simple thin pvc pipes or 2 by 4s make a great frame to make a breeding chamber. (If its indoors of course) I would use a 150 watt hps light you can pick up at most grow stores. Make shure there is proper ventalation, that has a hepa filter to keep contaminated air from exhausting into your main gro chamber. pollines a bitch.

The Norwegian

Jun 26 2009, 6:05 pm

Hey guys. I am a first time grower and i got some seeds (both quality and shit) from the U.S.. I planted the seeds outside here in Norway on a mountain side so they get plenty of sun and very little attention. I put 5 seeds in a good sized pot and 3 in a smaller sized pot. (They wont be spotted, you've never seen an emptyer place than the Norwegian mountains). Now after about 2 weeks I have two plants sprouting in the big pot but none in the small one. I didn't water them for 2 days so I decided to water them as they looked really dry. There are bright crystals forming all around the two seedlings and they are getting about 20 hours of light per day (Bright all day here in Norway during the summer), but as the sun starts going down the horizon I have a tree blocking off the sun for about 1-3 hours. I put some "all year around" fertilizer in the soil, both pots. What I'm looking for is some advice on when to harvest as the winter times in Norway means the ground is completely WHITE, covered in snow and we have about 4 hours of light, rest is darkness (meaning most vegitation dies). I was thinking of giving them like 2-3 more months (I don't want them too big as they are my first attempt). The stems are growing big with the strong winds up there. I'm also wondering how long until I should attempt to check their sex for male plants to move in to a seperate pot for seed harvest. Thanks in advance guys, peace.

I'm thinkin about spreadin a load of seed in a place that will get lots of water all year round tho constant sunlight maybe a prob (nobody will find it). i'm thinking of leavin it and lettin it find its own way, i know the strength won't be great but plannin that the harvest will compensate. temp may be a prob, 3-4 C winter and 16-20 C summer. if i let it grow to a bush will this help? its a sort of grow and forget about strategy, anybody think this will work?

4'x4'x 8' closet

Mar 23 2009, 10:32 am

a.Line the closet walls with white plastic sheeting or foil
b.build a shelf with 3' of room from the ceiling(clone room)
c.line floor with plastic sheeting and tape to control any spills.
d, mount a bathroom vent fan without a light in top of closet and duct into attic or outside.
You will need odor control if you grow skunk.

e.mount all electrical plugs and timers up on sides of closet, nothing on the floor.
d.42"tower oscillating fan for plant exercising in flower room.
e.either drill several 1 inch holes along bottom of door or remove door and saw off bottom 1/2 inch of door for air circulation. And be sure that the top shelf you put in allows air to circulate between chambers, but that no light can. You will also need an oscillating fan in your clone/
vegetation chamber too make your plants strong enough too hold up large buds. Also,be sure to tape a plastic curtain along inside of door frame to stop light from entering. Self sticking velcro works best for entry and ease of securing the curtain. Stick it and staple it.
This is one example of a grow room,be creative and for everything you need, search the internet and find the best price. Be mindful of shipping costs, sometimes it's cheaper to go to a hardware store and buy than to have shipped to you. You can grow hydro in this or with dirt in buckets.

shade

Mar 23 2009, 9:25 am

Have heard of people erecting shade structure over their crop so sun is blocked in afternoon and that the sudden reduction in direct sunlight causes early flowering, but I haven't tried and can't swear too it. That is why most people that want to control the flowering process grow inside. If you have enough room in your house or apartment for another piece of furniture
consider buying a computer armoire or a grow tent.It is a lot easier than all the hiking, hauling and hiding your trails. And
any storage cabinet thats 48 inches tall and 18 to 20 inches
deep will work as a grow cabinet. Have seen one built in a metal cabinet from office depot that was the perfect size
for a one or two person grow room. And they lock so kids
and inquisitive minds don't peek. and they sell a computer
grow cabinet, over $500 but it won't keep 1 person completely supplied. You can build a complete closet grow room for that and depending on closet size, have pot left over. Check out the new led grow lights for no heat and a very low electrical signature. Be sure you get the lights with the
10mm 1 watt high brightness bulbs. The led lights advertised at HT are those kind. They sound pricey but when you consider the life expectancy and reduced wattage, they are the best buy. And with the proximity allowed with led's,one
45 watt grow panel is equal too a 600 watt hid and 2 will
grow a very good top bud crop in a closet. And if you like the little popcorn buds on the sides of the plants, just put
four 42 watt soft warm cfl bulbs hanging around the sides of your plants.

nutrients

Mar 23 2009, 8:56 am

Almost all the nutrients have instructions for soil planting and if a variety of plants are growing around your site, the ground is probably fine. Just follow the feeding directs on
the bottles. A good starter nutrient kit is by technaflora,
BC products @ Discount Hydro and many other hydro sites. And
New Mexico has a lot of sandy soil, and its best for pot because of the good drainage but you have to water every other day
in late summer and early fall,so put your grow where you don't have to carry 5 gal buckets of water too far. Also can get a grow dvd or book because a picture is worth a thousand words.

Dave

Mar 23 2009, 1:32 am

Hey i was wondering how one is to rush the flowering process? I plan on growing outside, have a spot picked out and my seeds sprouting. I need general help on what nutrients i need, as well as good soil composition for a healthy crop. ( I live in New Mexico so the soil is pretty much shit). Just basic pointers for a beginning grower would be great!

I have been growing in a tree covered median of a 4 lane divided highway for a few years. I can't imagine that a few plants spaced a quarter mile apart will ever attract attention. I pick up aluminum cans in the median on weekends when I want to check on things or harvest.

re: nugalate

Mar 22 2009, 10:18 am

Plant early, don't soak seeds, mother nature plants every fall
and the seeds know when to come up. 1/4 inch in clay type soil
(better if you have time to mix in some sand and aggregate to
help aerate the soil) and 1/2 inch in sandy, loamy soil(best
soil),but dig deep and break up thoroughly deep for aeration
and good root development. A sharpshooter shovel is perfect
for this. Plant where plants get 10 too 12 hours direct sun
and when no rain for 4 days in late summer, water trip. Some
times this is what makes or breaks the growing spot, how much work it is to get water too your plants in August and September and sometimes beyond. Good luck

re:newbie

Mar 22 2009, 9:59 am

you have no window or glass door where a plant gets 6 hrs of direct sunlight,it won't be much but it will gravitate you to
country living. An indoor closet can be built for about $400
to $500 that will do 1 person nicely and 2 if you clone and
harvest every 2 months. Use led's and cfl's for lights for low
heat and electrical use. Be sure the led's are 45 Watt mixed
array or higher. The rest you can search out on the internet, with examples at you.tube, pick and choose to your needs, then search for best prices.

There are over 100 million active pot smokers in America and a
lot more that would be active except for piss tests and drug screening. If 10% of them start growing pot in their yards and
on empty lots and in parks and in the flowerbed at the courthouse, and don't miss putting one by the flashing baptist church sign, there are not enough prisons,or guards to handle the load. Not too mention what it would do the legal system we
all love so much. Play Johnny Potseed and spread the wealth.
We want so much pot growing that they don't need to drive more than a block to see a pot plant. And you guy's in DC have some really neat places to grow. Be creative.
Plant date is April 1

To Black McGuyver, it depends a lot on what conditions you are dealing with. If you are too big for your container then it will diminish your yield. If you need a bigger space it should be fine if you can do it without disrupting the roots too much. If they get substantially disturbed it may stall your growth and diminish things. In the future I would use dissolveable pots early on (made of moss and such things) and always put pot-and-all into the larger, final container. Good luck with that. Mycorrhizae rules!

ive never had success in growing! but at the moment ive got a MONSTER 5 1/2ft female "bush" growing in my backyard.. ive been experimenting and its the best 1 ive ever had. trunk is 2inches in diameter and bushes out to about 30 very healthy stems of lush growth! its just under 1.4meters in diameter.. i planted it 9 n a half months ago at the start of autum by accident! i found it in a pot as a minature already flowering, then i transplanted it to grownd, tippd it a few times, it stayed there for a lil bit, then i moved it again to where it is now, been there for 2 1/2 months and is doin really well. its spring at the moment and its still got about 5 months till harvest. but my house mates just informed me its gotta go!!! ive lined up a new plot where it will stay this time, its just as good as the one its in... i dont wanna kill it, is there any chance i could move it to a new location "AGAIN" and will it still grow?? im worried about disturbing the root system! if i dig it out, is it vital that i dont hit any of the roots?? please help

Oct 27 2008, 7:05 pm

DrFeelgood: 7 hrs of full natural sunlight is plenty but you may have trouble forcing the buds in July because you don't have a daylight hour cushion which you would need if you wanted to reduce light exposure. I've had success in plots receiving only 4 hrs of full sun but having better than average soil conditions.

at the intersection of the leaf steam and main stalk, you will find a "curved" hair-like protrusion, kind of like a folicle. This indicates female. The male subsequently will have protrusions similar to little "balls".

Well i have been growing outdoor for 2 years in nor-cal. I've never had any problems, THANKFULLY. the last two years , i have always grown from seed. In my opinion its the best. This year i changed things up and bought some clones from a dispensary. I figured id give it a shot. One SnowCap- One Orange crush- one Grape Ape- Two Sour D's.-GOOD DEAL- My garden is half clones half seeds.Although i thought they would never get as big as seeds. my SnowCap clone is fucking huge,it was 8 in when i got it and it grows like a seed 5ft now. I swear if thats around next year im getting more than one. Orange crush is very dark green leaves, about 4 feet tall. As for the Grape ape and Sour D's they are short but bushy, they wont yeild alot but its going to be chronic.I have changed my mind about clones, I enjoy growing and experimenting over the years and will continue to do so.

shit I must be getting raped if I were to pay $65+ an 1/8th right??? wrong! $50's are the end of the board, I shop the top. Ill spend $60 on a 1 G of amber glass. The only way to be a good grower is to actually do it. Youll have problems, which youll learn how to read. Not saying that a 1st grow cant be ridic, cus mine was thanks to the foxfarm line, and dispensary clones . The only way to learn, is to learn for your self. Fuck the internet or books, those people are just a bunch of big headed " I only grow Chronic buds" kind of guys. They only way to grow good weed is to learn your self, and good genetics. its very simple growing weed isnt difficult and if you realy wanna learn how to do so dont listen to what people tell you.just experiment you will learn more from your own mistakes than others.if ever you have a problem or something you dont understand find out yourself, experiment with your situation remeber its just a plant it wont eat itself. once you experiment enough with it u will learn how to read a plant.

To any rookie looking for basic advice:

Germination: seeds placed in between a folded paper towel, not soaking in the water, but using a wick method never fails. NO LIGHT, keep in an unsealed container in a warm environment (basically the warmer the environment, the faster the sprouting).

Seedlings: Seedlings should be placed in separate containers (dixie cups work well and also allow easy removal of the rootball). Seedlings should be kept indoors until a good root system has developed . Aslo, air movement is important to strengthen the stem and prevent your baby from being susceptable to the potential harmful weather spring may bring. NO FERTILIZER FOR SEEDLINGS. It will burn them up.

Vegetative: Once they have reahed the vegetative stage and begin to strech (when the nodes grow apart), they should be buried a little deeper (the stem wil get FAT), then kept inside for another week or two for further development.

Outside: Once your precious little botanical experiments are ready to be put outdoors, your spot should be checked on again to ensure no one has tresspassed. Then, take chicken wire or fence and staple it to natural supports (trees). manmade poles are well, obvious and easily spotted. In my opinion, the fence should be painted a little to "break it up". They should be put in the ground, with the holes about 1.5x1.5 feet or more. Soil should not be muddy when wet. Mix either composted medium or potting soil with perlite and maybe water-absorbing crystals (if in a dry area). Make sure to space them apart and staggered both to avoid choppers and to prevent them from shading each other. Avoid spots with tree clusters. Cannabis thrives in full sun. Spots in thick brush and bryers (thorns) are great, but make sure that they are not taller than your plants' expected height. Then bend them by tying them down to keep them from towering over the surrounding foliage. Patches are not a good idea. I would never keep more than 5 together. And only as much as 5 because of expected males to remove.

Fertilizing: Once they begin to thrive in the vegetative stage, nutrients can be added. A higher concentration of nitrogen is required for growth and development, but when flowering higher concentrations of phosphates and potash are needed.

Because of ill preparation, mine got started later and not as well as i had hoped. i got them in the ground on 420. Then, due to funding, had to skimp on soil and therefore use smaller holes (only about 1 foot by 1 foot). Also, my spots are shadier than expected, with only about 5 hours of direct, uninterrupted sunlight a day. CHECK FOR LIGHT PENETRATION AT DIFFERENT TIMES OF THE DAY!!!

Despite the setbacks, my little guys (under 1 foot) were put in the groud on 420 and now stand dark green at the smallest being 3 ft, the largets 4 foot or so. the stems are thicker than a sharpie marker and the leaves are bigger than my hand. Remember, the cannabis plant is a WEED, so basically if u dont kill it, it will grow.

Deer: I have used my own urine and other deterrents to scare away deer. 4 seasons in a row, i lost decent crops to deer. Fences gotta be the one. lol. i have also heard that human hair works well.

"It's always 4:20!!!"

MR HIGHLIFE......If you did the process right ,you should see the seeds sprouting in 20-36 hours(for me its about 24hr.)What i do is take 1 peice of paper towel an simply fold it in half. Then you take the seeds(usually 20-30 per towel)and place them on one side of the towel so you can fold it.After you fold it pour warm water on it(make sure its all wet)and place it in a plastic baggie/ziplock.Before zipping it up pour a bit more warm water and close the baggie ALMOST all the way,and dump quickly all the excess water from the bag.Blow some air into it , seal it shut, and put it somerwhere where it can get humid(i put it in the suns view/in car.)

May 29 2008, 1:18 am

Guys, kids.....I've been putting seeds in the earth for 16 years. I've grown in almost every system, medium, climate and my advice to all of you is to buy good literature and read it a little then just try things out, start with soil and cheap nutrients because you're going to suck at it for a year or two unless you are just lucky or a natural and Hydroponics are not easy for beginners. These things take time to get good yields and constant results. Forums have given me a few reliable information sources, but generally trial and error and a lot of time invested is how I started yielding steady crops of good personal smoke. On a less attractive note, it has cost me a couple really good women and several thousand dollars in legal fees also so.... the best way to have great results more quickly is to:TELL NO ONE and SHOW NO ONE. NO PARTNERS, NO BEST BUDDIES NO GIRLFRIENDS NO ONE. That is the best advice I can give. Also If something doesn't make absolute sense don't subject your girls to mad science BS like smoking your plants out...... (use Co2 in tanks for Gods sake) If you keep killing your girls doing stupid shit....you should probably stop smoking and wait until college to start again......I'm going to stop now. LOL

bunbudquest

May 25 2008, 10:10 pm

some of you guys got the right idea bout the herbivores but try sprinkling some blood meal around the perimeter of your plot. The smell of blood should drive off any herbivores that might snack on your girls. Also keep in mind that while scouting in the winter is okay for the traffic aspect of things in the spring your open sunny spot might be shaded by foliage that wasn't there during winter months. Remember one big male can give you seeds for the future but also can fill thousands of beutifull buds up with beans. Stay on top of them when they are sexing before they flower, sadly the best and the brightest of your plants is likely to be a male so when they are all young tend to them equally as the smallest of the bunch is likely to be the most asskickinest. So grow that kush and you'll ball like swoosh.

dude u gettin burned royally if u paying 50$ for 8th aswell

scoobys dooby

May 25 2008, 1:44 pm

try simply putting three or four in the ground instead of placing all five from your packet because if you space them out well enough, and give them the right kind of feeding and know when the flowering and germinating periods are aswell as obviously splitting the heads they should grow to yield their maximum potential for each plant its simple patience and taking the time to look after your plants as you would an animal

Can anyone figure out a good way to get the seeds to germinate. Im new to growing and Im trying the paper towel method right now but I dont know how long I should wait to decide to give up on these seeds. The seeds I have are old so they might not germinate. By the way what does a good seed look like?

May 24 2008, 2:07 am

deezy, sounds to me like you've got a ton of research to do. if you're paying 70$ for an 8th and still calling what you pay 50$ an 8th for "dro," you're prob getting ripped.

deezy

May 22 2008, 5:40 pm

you have a ton of research to do before you try growin man. i dont think the electric company cares how much electricity is used as long as they get money. mids/schwag should cost $20 and dro/chron should cost $50 unless its a baller strain then up to $70.

May 22 2008, 1:06 am

Hi, this is my first time here and I have a few questions about growing. I live in central IL. and am trying this for the 1st time. I have six peat pots with at least three sprouts in each, a couple with a lot of little sprouts. The bigger sprouts are about 1-2 1/2". I just planted seeds I had collected from various friends I bought from. Some of the seeds were white and small, some were a real pretty shade of brown with darker brown markings. My son-in-law said the white ones were immature, to not bother planting them. Do different plants have different looking seeds, or are they all pretty much the same? Do seeds from better pot produce better pot than seeds from not so great pot? When should I transplant them outside? Or is indoors better? I should say I have a black thumb when it comes to growing anything, so I need the easiest fool proof way to grow. My dad said that the electric company can get suspicious if you suddenly start using grow lights and there is an unusual surge in your bill/use. I would like to grow them in the basement, without attracting undue attention. Also, how much should I expect to be paying for an 1/8 in central IL? I just got some that wasn't much good for 40., and it was short. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. ~~keep on tokin'~~

creamie~yea u planted way too many too close together.
if ur growing indoors and ur keeping a smaller plant it wouldn't be bad to put 2 or 3 in a pot. but 6... ehh ur gonna have root tangles and plants dying in the vegetative state.
I would transplant the sprouts when the come up out of the pot into other growing areas.

Do not use dog or cat shit because they are carnivores and it may contain harmful organisms. Plus it's kinda gross. Any other type of manure should be well composted before adding to plants as a nutrient. Otherwise, you could really burn the plants will excess nitrogen. Compost and compost tea are great, seabird and bat guano, liquid or powdered seaweed. There are plenty of great organic nutrients and amendments. Stay High Everyone!

Apr 20 2008, 3:22 pm

Last year was my first year outdoors, and I found that the local wildlife was my biggest challenge. I trapped thousands of rats, chipmunks, mice, ground squirrels etc....
In research I have found that all of these creatures love to eat my weed. More importantly I have found that they will not cross a barrier of cat piss. My grow area measured about 16'x16' and to ensure the survival of the remaining plants I had left I sprinkled my cats used cat litter around the perimeter of the grow area. This worked great!!!
You'll want to use all natural clay or even paper cat litter
to do the job. The deodarizers and scents in a lot of other cat litters will mask the supreme stench of your cats piss, and make it more likely that the creatures will cross your barrier. I also found that haveing a few cats outdoors fulltime greatly reduces the likelyhood of your crop being eaten (especialy when you don't feed them well).

It is just now getting warm enough during the night time for babies to flourish. Soak seeds in constant warm water for 6-12 hours, germinate at a constant 90 degree temp. Rockwool is worth the money. See Rollitup & grow marijuana.com(s) for more info, and plant, plant, plant!

Poke some air holes in the bag, at least. Set heating pad to the high 80's. NO light! until they sprout, then a 45 watt light will be good. Next time, place washed towel on plate, lay seeds on 1 side, then fold the towel, then place a bowl over the plate. Check every 12 hours. I've got 87 in rockwool, 7 different strains. They started popping up today. South side is best. See "Earthjuice.com" for nutrients, perlite is good.I ordered 2 lbs. of worms to make my own soil. Good luck, Folks.

~mad mike~

Feb 21 2008, 12:54 pm

(Whipp) as for fertilizer i use a 12-12-12 chemical garden fertilizer once when i plant and agin med season and a little miracle.gro every now and then.

~mad mike~

Feb 21 2008, 12:31 pm

(2 Whipp) yes i said perlite made by SCHULTZ you can get it at wall mart or eny place 2.49 abag perlite helps soil retain moisture and helps break heavy soil and encourages root growth.

re:mad mike

Feb 21 2008, 10:17 am

-mad mike- i appreciate the added advice. i woulda never guessed to use moss. great idea. keeps me from having to go to the creek bed n hauling up water for hours.

(hey Whipp) for my compost i go around the woods looking for old beach trees that is hollow at the bottom. inside are stuff like leaves old nut cutting. squaril leavings and things like that composted down into dirt that is blacker then dicks hat band. i gather that and mix in sorounding top soil and a little perlite to help hold moisture +that organic matter i told you about.i allso gather liveing moss to go around my plants after i put them in the ground for addid moisture. then sit back and injoy. top it off with some fertilizer evry now and then. and by the way i never havto water!!!!!!

dont start in ground, mites, mice, slugs will take you out quick, buckets will work but screen them in or you will come back to a dead plant or squerrels will hide their nuts in your pot and the plant will be dead.if you live out west woodrats are a problem to!I used to make a circle of green spaypainted rat traps in a circle around every plant, till I killed some poor birds!GOOD LUCK LOTS OF WORK BUT FOR 6MONTHS OF THIS ITS WELL WORTH THE PAY AND HEADSTASH,not to metion keif, bubblehash, tinctures, and a nice walking stick from the huge ones!

DONT TAKE ON PARTNERS!best friends or not do it yourself!only you'll know. You never konw when a friend will turn on you. Most important if the plants dissapear you and your friend may not be friends anymore wondering who stole your crops!I did this one time in the past and my stupid greedy, lazy friend made a huge spot that was seen by helecopters and they swooped in took the lovely variety of plants and put their cards all over the ground in the patch,I guese to keep me and my friend from fighting or killing eachother, the cards said state police, tactical narcotics divsion,my stupid friend still thought I pulled the premature plants!duuu!this kid later moved to humbolt county CA nad came back 10years later no smarter then when he left!my friend who told me after visiting humbolt that I would be a millionaire if I lived there and that I wasn't a dumbass like the dude he went out to see in shelter cove. The concensus was that our so called friend was a patch pirate and worked for the real growers.take it from and old pro, grow alone!!!12 nice big females at 6000 a peice would work out to 72,000!!trust me do it yourself no need for partners, nothing but trouble, work hard by yourself and it will pay off!dont bring in friends you'll ruin everything, plus you stay safe, people will fuckyou!I know I made the mistake to many times indoors and out,and with partners it always fucked everything up trust me I know.DO IT YOUSELF!IF IT GOES BAD YOU"LL HAVE ONLY YOURSELF TO BLAME!still growing and learning 25 years later!andy price is a narc!kb kings Worcester pa,oh anne fannelli is a narc to!beware of fake hippychicks and witchy women like anne 1854 whitehall rd ya know who i'm talking bout.BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't tell your best friend unless he's your grow partner. me and my friend are thinking of doing that. i think i have some places in mind, but i'll have to snoop around some to find an ideal place.

if you have extra plants in buckets you can shade the bucket by placing plastic plants from walmart or any doller store. This camos the plant and keeps your container from drying out!never tell a soul what you're doing, people are jealous, greedy and can and will burn you!always go at different times and days!never have a pattern!

grow in pricker bushes and place nobody will walk, hunters are lazy and wont realy crawl like a rabbit to go to their spot.On the other hand you should crawl in the brush like a rabbit to get to the spot.Go in winter to find best spots! you can find out alot in winter, you find old gunshells, beer cans, other peoples plots, water bottle ect.you dont need to start in winter, start early spring dig big holes and put your own soil in and take the old soil away in a backpack or bucket,DONT make a mess, they can see it from the air!use floral wire to reroute the deer,And for god sake use a fence, grow them in opots someplace safe, then put in holes at 12 inches high, breadtie it gently to a green wood stake, moniter rain somehow and feed weekly, plants are like people they get FAT!when you feed them.used crushed oyster shells for slugs ortho slug poisen is realy toxic stuff, they also sell copper tape that oxidizes the slugs.always keep other plants nearby in pot in not as sunny locations,so if youpull a male you can through a female in thier, and you dont have a huge hole for the copters to see.Dont leave trails! And if you dont want to get caught dont tell anyone not your girl, best friend,NOBODY!!you can show them pictures latter on when everything is cured and jarred up and you got a big wad of cash!good luck new begginers, you'll learn something new every year!be sneaky and never leave a shovel or evedence around, put carpet on your boots,no trails!reead ht mag its helped me overs the past 20 years!!
