GANJI'S GROW JOURNAL -- Day 162

Removed the plastic on the floor in the flowering chamber earlier this week. Swept it out and washed the floor with a paste made from powdered cleanser with bleach and a little water. Smeared the paste on the areas most infected with algae and let it stand for an hour or so. Added a little water and scrubbed the entire floor with a hard bristled broom. Let it dry out overnight and found the algae completely gone in the morning. Algae are a common problem in a situation like this. Runoff from the containers gets underneath the plastic and the standing moisture creates conditions conducive to its growth. Any cleanser with a disinfectant such as bleach will work to kill of algae, mold, and/or fungus. Indoor grow rooms should be disinfected periodically whether there are signs of growth or not to prevent a problem from developing. Plastic floor covering should also be removed, cleaned, and dried periodically as well to prevent this situation from developing. Using black or dark plastic also helps control fungus and algae growth by limiting the amount of available light. --MAX

Moved the three large Sweet Tooth clones into the flowering chamber directly under the light. Dropped the light down to around 18-20 inches from the plants and watered well.
Been removing and replacing clones from each tub as needed. Also misting regularly and maintaining water in the tubs. The newer clones taken in the last week all look great. No signs of trouble so far. The Sweet Tooth mother plant is showing signs of flowering though. Pistils growing out at the nodes. Not really flowering, just trying to. The three NL#9 clones in pots have definitely taken off and are now growing rapidly. They’ll be the next three to rotate into the flowering room. Been rotating the drying buds regularly this week. Should be ready in a couple days. Separated the leaf into three paper grocery bags to help it dry faster.

Ganji hasn’t changed the bulb in the metal halide fixture yet and this could be causing the Sweet Tooth clone mother to begin flowering, even under 24 hours of light. However, since the NL#9 clone mother isn’t being affected, it could also be a genetic thing with the Sweet Tooth. In either case, it will make cloning more difficult, and he may have to establish another clone mother if the plant continues to flower or cloning becomes too difficult. Replacing the MH bulb should be done as soon as possible as well.
The three clones in pots will be small but should be ready to flower when Ganji needs them to continue his perpetual harvest schedule which, isn’t a bad thing. With smaller plants, he’ll be able to fit the 12 that he eventually wants into the flowering chamber without cramping them too much. Smaller plants generally have a higher bud to leaf ratio than their larger counterparts, so Ganji can maximize the available space by growing many small plants with a lot of bud as opposed to growing a few large plants with more leaf and larger branches.

It’s a good idea to separate the leaf into paper bags as well. All that leaf in a box would take a long time to fully dry, even if it was turned regularly. The longer it takes to dry, the better the chances of damp spots causing mold or fungus to develop which would make sifting the leaf into kife dangerous. --MAX
