VAPOR'S GONE DIGITAL

Computerized Vaporizer Redefines Smokeless Smoking

I haven't mentioned anything about vaporizers in almost two years, waiting for serious technology to be applied. Now, Advanced Inhalation Revolutions Incorporated based in California, has developed the Vapir Digital AIR-2 vaporizer. It uses microchip technology (a little computer) to precisely heat the material -- enabling you to toke THC vapors without inhaling the toxic compounds produced by burning.

"When a plant is burned, its chemical makeup may change. When catalyzed by flame, many plants transform and create new compounds which were not inherent in the plant itself," explains company spokesman Shaahin Cheyene.

The AIR-2's patented microchip regulates temperatures for vaporization to avoid overheating or burning. An all-ceramic heating chamber, space-age polymers and useful controls make it simple to use. One must realize that unlike combustion, vaporization is a subtle process, and results will depend on the operator. Be patient. The "herbs on disk" basket makes this vaporizer easy to fill and very efficient. One tiny disk full (approx. 1/3 gm) can last 15 minutes, easily stoning out several people.

The LCD display and the buttons on the front of the unit give you control over the Vapir's functions. You can set the display to read in Fahrenheit or Celsius, with a maximum temperature of 400°F, so you can vaporize a wide variety of materials. The heater has a built-in automatic shut-off feature that displays how many minutes you have left, so you won't damage your Vapir or leave a red-hot coil burning in your room. It's set to 20 minutes, but you can also manually set the time.

Personal preferences, along with the type of material being used, will determine the optimum setting for maximum vaporization, but for me, it worked best at around 280°-300°F. Herbs should be cleaned and free of sticks and stems. Break up the material well; a grinder works best. Fill the basket, slide the lid closed and place it into the preheated unit. It will take a few moments to heat up fully, and then a light vapor will begin to rise. If you vaporize at the proper temperature, the material in the basket will lose all its green color, but show no signs of black.

It's not odorless; many people describe the smell of the vapor to be like fresh pot--still pungent, but it doesn't waft and linger like smoke odor. As always, there are plenty of naysayers, with comments like "where's the taste" or "the high isn't the same." Of course it's not the same, but neither is the lung damage you get from inhaling smoke.

The bottom line is it works great. There is no other commercially available unit that's even in the same league with the Digital AIR-2. As a test I spent a whole day medicating solely with my Vapir, and the only thing missing was the coughing. I'm sure I also conserved my nugs.

As you become more familiar with it, you'll discover exactly how to set it for maximum vaporization. For example, the machine works best with a fully loaded basket. To prevent wasting material during solo sessions, press the heat button to turn it off once the target temperature is reached. The fan stays on, and vaporization continues until the material cools. When your ready for another hit, just hit the button again.

I found that doing circular breathing, like when playing a didgeridoo, brings on an extreme high in minutes. Your throat will get dry, so keep it moisturized by drinking in between inhalations. Like eating better, vaporizing is something one might do to improve your health.

"The applications are vast. This is the future of smoking," comments Dr. Lester Grinspoon, associate professor at Harvard Medical School and coauthor of Marihuana: The Forbidden Medicine. "It may well be the future of all drug delivery."

The Vapir performs even better than I expected, although I don't expect I'll stop smoking yet. But for those times when you're sick, or you've partied too hard, vaporize to feed the head. Times when smoking and coughing would likely prolong the time it takes to get well.

The portable, reliable, incognito Vapir Digital AIR-2 has set the benchmark for personal inhalation devices. Two models are available; one plugs in to an AC outlet, and the other is rechargeable and cordless. Every Vapir comes in its own backpack, so you can take it anywhere.
