GANJI'S GROW JOURNAL -- Day 147

Bought some new soil, added nutrients, and mixed them in. Decided to go back to cloning in party cups, with holes in the bottom, placed inside tubs. It’s easier to keep the moisture levels stable that way -- just keep the tubs from getting dry. It’s also easier to water when they need it -- just re-fill the tubs. Prepared the cups and tubs. Took 15 clones from each mother plant and put them in their own tub. Trimmed them back, dipped in rooting hormone, re-cut the stems in water, and slid them into pre-made holes in the soil. Watered each cup and left about an inch of water in the bottom of each tub. Moved each tub into the cloning chamber opposite its mother to keep them straight.

When all else fails, get back to basics. This method worked relatively well for Ganji the first time he used it, so it seems sensible to try it again. He’s taken a bunch of clones, once again to make sure he has enough when the time comes, but it won’t fill the flowering room in a couple weeks when the current crop should be ready to harvest. Looks like only three plants will be ready to go. --MAX
Pruned the mothers back severely and watered before putting them back under the lights. Also added some all purpose fertilizer. Transplanted the three established clones into large buckets and watered. Watered the rest of the potted clones as well, though they don’t seem to be doing anything.

Ganji’s doing a great job of caring for the clone mothers. He’s transplanted as needed, kept them under control by selectively pruning, and is keeping the soil fertile. They appear to be in excellent health and are providing as many clones as Ganji wants to take. As for the potted clones, I’ve seldom seen anything stay green this long without growing. The three that did take off also seem to be in excellent health and they’ll apparently have all kinds of room in the flowering chamber when they go in alone. --MAX
Checked on the flowering plants. All’s well with the soil, though the yellowing continues. Not going to worry about it. It’s only on a few plants and they’re almost finished anyway. Been airing the buds from the last harvest and they’re finally done. They smoke smooth and sweet, burn easily, and cross your eyes on the first hit. Sealed the containers to preserve quality. Just take what I need once a week.

Some localized yellowing is to be expected at this late stage of flowering. The soil is probably depleted of nutrients by now and the chemical fertilizer Ganji added last week will be used by the plant to finish, so the large fan leaves won’t show any signs of recovery. It doesn’t seem to be affecting the buds anyway, which appear fat and healthy.
I’m sure Ganji’s slow, controlled cure has produced some fine smoking cannabis. When it’s done right, the results can’t be beat. He’s preserved the flavor and potency of the herb, while sweating out enough chlorophyll and moisture to make it burn smoothly. --MAX
