Mites and Yellow Leaves
It’s my first time, and I’ve had a li’l friend in my room for over a month. We have spider mites, and I’m pretty sure we got the bad boys. We use Schults insect spray, but the damage to the leaves is terrible. I’m using Miracle-Gro soil and all-purpose 24-8-16 Miracle-Gro food. The bottom leaves are falling off and getting yellow. The neighbor’s cat put a couple of holes in the damaged leaves, too. The seventh set of leaves is growing on top. The overall height is, like, stunted. Help!

Dear Anonymous,
The spider mites have to go! First, clean the room well and spray it with disinfectant. Don’t give mites a place to live. Clean off and disinfect containers and the floor, too. Next, smear a line of Tanglefoot around the lip of each container. This will isolate the pests to a specific container. Spray undersides of leaves with aerosol pyrethrum. My favorite is Whitmire’s X-Clude, because the pyrethrum, which generally has only a two-hour life span, is encapsulated. Encapsulation gives the pyrethrum a life of up to 24 hours.
Change fertilizers to a balanced organic blend or a high-quality hydroponic mix. Changing to such a fertilizer will solve many problems quickly. And keep the cat out of the room! Cats are often attracted to cannabis plants because the leaves move. Cats also dig in pots, which disturbs surface roots, and their hair sticks to resinous buds.

More Yellow Leaves
I’m a newbie grower and have selected Power Plant from Dutch Passion to grow first. I am starting them out in a 2’ x 2’ x 5’ grow box. The temperature is 75�F to 80�F, with humidity slightly above 40%. I use distilled water with SuperThrive and Oxy-Plus, but after almost four weeks the leaves are beginning to turn yellow, starting from the bottom of the plants. The leaves have also developed a slight brown in the veins. I’m using 190 watts of fluoro as my light source. Can you help me save the plants?

Dear Cold Sober,
Power Plant is an excellent choice for your first garden. It’s a strong grower, but it can be a very heavy feeder. Many growers have reported that it uses a lot of magnesium, and this is what your symptoms indicate. I always recommend 1 cup of fine dolomite lime (calcium and magnesium) per cubic foot of soil to head off this problem. Since you’re growing in a hydroponic system, the fertilizer you’re using doesn’t supply nearly enough nutrients for rapid growth. SuperThrive is a supplement that’s not meant to be used as a fertilizer, and Oxy-Plus is a very mild fertilizer designed to avoid overwatering slow-growing houseplants. Also, the plants aren’t receiving enough light.

Power Plant is one of the main commercial strains in the Netherlands. Growers give it a full fertilizer schedule of good-quality hydroponic nutrients. They also give this sativa-dominant strain plenty of light for highest yields.

Switch to a high-quality hydroponic fertilizer. Check hydrofarm.com, genhydro.com, greenair.com, etc., for some examples.

Your best bet would be to switch to a 400-watt high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamp and augment it with a compact fluorescent light. This plant really needs a lot of light for the best performance. Also, remember, since it’s sativa-dominant, stretching between the internodes is common when buds are forming. You could easily wind up with plants four feet high or taller. Start bending and build a trellis before buds start to stretch. Less light will make them stretch more.

Loran, in the hydroponic environment, cleanliness and sterility is key. It would be optimal for you to shut your room down temporarily. COMPLETELY disinfect entire area, tables, reservoirs replace tubing, etc. If there are no viable dispensaries to provide you genetics, I suggest saving anything in a preflower state and begin nurturing back the strain in a more stable area Better to start anew. hey guys . been at this for a while but this is the first time i have had white mites.I grow for a couple med patients and really am having a hard time keeping the strain alive. we tried neem oil but it was harder on the plants than the mites. So we tried dr doom pyretherin based bombs at $12 each after 8 of them i gave up on that.please help. we have rhino kgb white widow bubble gum and train wreck . we are hydroponic and use the general hydro line. i have been adding a little calcium and b . recently my ph went all bat shit it took weeks to get that fixed then a friends wife gave us starts and we didnt check them , bad plan.but she lost her med card, husband ,job and turned into a junkie so i guess the geat gods of green have dealt out a karmic blow.

planting outside should be done between late may and mid june after most of the rainy season is gone

harvesting outdoors is usually done right around first frost .. or earlier depending on the high your shootin for

if u wanna grow in the winter/spring it has to be indoors .. go get a 200 watt HPS and make a box it honestly is a really low cost setup

Hi, I'm a first time hydroponic grower and am having issue with heat. I keep the door of my caddy open and I've been able to keep the temp 85-90degrees F. I changed the water 5 days ago and found it turning green today. I took out the reservoir and washed it out and replaced it with tap water (pH of 6.2 & PPM 74) I'm hoping that the reason my plants are not growing is that I have locked them with too much nutrient. Could someone please advise?

just havested my forth plant in second crop. tryiing to clone this time around. have 3 white widow cuttings that are about three weeks old now. had four but pulled up because of couriosity. found stem fat and white does anyone know if that is good?
Also buds seem to be some what airy, leafy, and have lots of hairs. how can i get them to be denser nad lease leafy. using 400 watt mh. should i get hps conversion bulb? wikk it be worth it? .any help greatly appriciated.

Procured some bat guano few weeks ago and now my buds filling in nicely. Only problem is the cold front, its going to get down to freezing a few nights. Hopefully there is change for the better and a few weeks of relativly warm weather, waiting as long as possible before harvest. Will a few nights below freezing kill plants??

I started outdoors in May, unfortunately the wooded area and my plants got bulldozed for construction. This forced me to restart sprouts about end of June. It is now end of September and out of 4 plants, 2 have ended being males(which I killed), 1 female, and 1 still undecided. The female is only 3 months old, about two feet tall, in a five gallon bucket with a mixture of sand, top soil, peat moss, and a little bone meal. I have been fertilizing every 2 weeks with all purpose miracle grow. My question is, she has skunky smelling flowers about the size of quarters, but the problem is the white hairs are already turning amber. I read after they 50/50, I will start to loose thc. How do I get the buds bigger before loosing thc and beating the first frost? Any help greatly appreciated.

some fert. with high phosphorus like 2-10-4 numbers with the middle number higher than others,then just use it at half strength,cause less seems to work better than more,it is a sensitive plant!

I dont have experience with this but a fire would be bad,try not to have any things around lites that can burn,floor ect. and hook up a monitering system for when your not home on your laptop.a baby moniter and a smoke alarm are some of my ideas

aight so i planted 1 crippy seed and i got 2 trees outta this. 1 of the trees is growing fine, nice leaves nd everythin... the other 1 is kinda 'retarded'... its droopin ova and it doesnt have leaves nething like the other tree. i put a toothpick in the soil nd tied the stem to the toothpick with string to help keep it up, the stem is losing color nd starting to go brownish. what should i do to save my plant? (it is indoor on my window ledge, ive been growing it for around 2 -3 weeks now, waterin it 2wice a day... 1 plant is going fine, the other 1 is not so good)... i plan on moving it outside once it gets stronger

simple man,hang them trees in a dark,dry place where the air is moving,dont blow fan on directly.until you take a bud,expose stem,break,if it breaks about half way through put in sealed jars,open jars for 1 hour every day after until stems snap in half,if you think its too dry for you is ok to put a small piece of apple but when you get it the way you want it keep jars shut,in a cool place.this breaks down the clorophil the hay smell and makes your trees smooth and tasty,and very much more stoney balony!

I need some help and have one question. I am currently hanging my trees to dry and they have lost thier pugent odor and they now smells like a haystack.
I have have others in jars that smell the same way. I have been hanging them to dry and them in about 7 days put them in jars. Opening repeatedly. What am I doing wrong? Please help!

essentually it is hydro,except thers no fancy setup,its just me,the plants,lets call them hop plants for beer only!not to smoke!the plants are put in 8" pots with a filler that really has no nutrtional value and nutrents are put in the water that you give them.it is hydro.

good question,people dont use dirt,at least I never heard of it,some good comercial potting soil that has a spagum moss base then mix with lots of perolite! then when you do the waterin they dont get the roots to wet,and the pots will dry out faster enabling you to water them every day,plants realy drink alotstarting there 4th week of budding.hydro systems are for the experienced grower and is good if you want to try it,youll need a ph moniter,aquarium heater,pump ect. details about hydro systems are found all over this site,Itried it for thrree crops and decided it wasnt for me as I got huge flowers the other way,smkabol

osiel i agree with wh if ur gonna drop that kinda loot go with the 400w u don't even needed vented get an airconditioner in the widow of the room the closet is in and set some fans up in the room to direct the air it is a plus to have it brought in from outside but not nessesary my first go round i did a 400w in a 3.5'x2' got the ac an fans set up an never had a prob now i use the 400w for veg an a 600w for flower it's a little off topic but if anyone is intrested i read that the 600w is the best size lamp to buy even if ur a commercial grower and by that i mean as far as energy use to light output there the best

Thanks blizz, im going to have to get another light going then.Theres no possible way of getting them out of the crawl space i have them in.Id have to say damn near half of each plant has red hairs, with the rest being white.All the buds have crystals and the leaves are starting to get a little frosty but not much.What light setup should i be using and where do they sell it?Thanks again.

first timer YOU NEED MORE LIGHT 150watts on 2 6' plants isn't even close to enough light ur plants are still gonna push balls out there stressing from the lack on avalible light move them outside or grab a bigger light otherwise ur plants is gonna hermi second watch ur crystals use a magnafing glass watch the color on them i like mine to have about 20% amber an the rest cloudy but don't cut them when there all just clear

Hey guys, well i have a couple plants going in my basement.Im actually using a 150 watt flood light.Now i had problems with my plants all being male.I have 2 going, both are about 6 foot high.I spent hours plucking pollen sacks when i flipped the light cycle to 12/12.Now i have buds...small, but still buds.I have crystals all over the buds and some of the leaves inbetween them.Now my question is....when do i harvest?Is it possible to wait too long?Currently half the plants buds have white hairs and the other half are red.Big plants.Hope to get a better light setup next time.Can anyone help?

you need to put the seed in now,it dosnt matter what lite you get,plant it and go through the life cycle of tender perrenials,learn,thats the important thing,you cant grow without some sort of ventilation anyway,for your special application may I recomend a400 w hps enclosed reflector with air cooling option that will cool your lamp and provide ventilation,this exhaust can be run through an anti smell box,a card board box with a can of new car smell should do it or other air smell products. if you do as I say you wont get caught and you wont EVER be sorry you did,smkabol.

i also have 3 gallon grow bag's also some maxicrop seaweed mexican bat guano and seabird guano and ph control kit up and down 1 quart of diamond nectar to get them crystals all over them so what do you think u think with this stuff i can get my homegrown kindbud.of starin i am useing is nirvana top 44
i also have pure nothernlights
but i hear that one grow's to tall so i might save those seed's when i grow outdoor next year.

to pull an oz off two plants is possible....just make shure you Know what you are doing.......don't be to disapointed your first time around.alott of factors go into high yields....just not lighting details ,nutrients ,air , how you top them , and trim them , hydroponics/ or soil , size of container , what kind of container ?.. all are factors..allways check your plants play some music for them !....so get groweing and expiermenting and soon you will find you are answering your own questions...its a very rewarding hobby...Peace ouT .hope I was of some help... drill holes in one end of bucket (the bottom side) .. so that air can escape , on the top side (the lid) cut out a hole for the fan , place fan in hole snuggley and silicone around exterior of fan ,you want the fan to pull air from your garden exhoust through the bucket , wire nuts are for putting wires tohether (safety) , put a layer of poly-fill in bucket then a layer of activated carbon , then another layer of poly-fill put lid back on with fan installed.hook up ventalation tubing to your exhoust for grow and have it directed to go through the bucket you just made...exhoust it out the window if able......hope that helps .. activated carbon is a start ! ... whats needed ? 5 gallon bucket , activated carbon (from pet store) , package of poly - fill , and a strong fan like one you would use for the bathroom fan exhoust fan , silicone coulking (to go around placed fan) .....and tubing used for heat ventalation from a dryer..allso wire nuts are good idea to have aswell ..

Yo osiel, what size space are you planning on useing for your grow ? hows about atleast 250 HPS ? .. on the question about compact floresents...I have not tryed that route...I have 1 freind I consider expert go that route..all I can say is he wasnt particulary pleased.search grow boards for more advice on that type of lighting.I do know people are useing them....that grow box looks great !! and stealthy !! ...if you notice in the specs it comes with a 400 or 600 hps...is your area smaller than those spec ?....remember ventalation is everything come up wih a way to bring in ~ out side air to the area of growing. and ventalate !! allso i have found general rule of thumb is to have lights on at night off during the day , reason being lights are on fans are whirling and everything is stinking , better to be stinking at night when you are less likely to have ups , postmaster or whoever else wants to come to your dwelling.allso nights are cooler......INVEST IN SMELL CONTROL aswell as lighting some varietys smell just a little bit more than others depending on size of garden. be prepared.....

Yo Osiel,DO NOT go with anything less than 400 , if anything think about getting 2 - 400 HPS Growlamps - no substitutes - you do not want the ballast in the closet that will create to much heat ,and you allso want a good color spectrum in the closet. allso think about going to home depot for their shop lights that are chrome/and reflective home depot sells plant life 4 foot floresents , floresents are good for cloning and seedlings due to its soft none harsh light....stay away from 150 hpslights from homedepot.allso spend the money and get a nice Hortilux HPS bulb , its worth it......now get started we need more growers !

annoy... i have grown under low HPS wattage for a while now, and depending how many lumens per inch dispapates from the light, you may jst need to adjust the distance your plants are away from the light. HPS's put out intense heat for a bulb... blah blah blah yada yada yada... you already know this... are the tips of the plants becoming necrotic or curling or just yellowing? If it is old growth yellowing it may be nitrogen migration up the plant? There's too many factors.. hope some of this may help.

canni if ur flowering i'd stay away from the sprays foliar feeding really shouldn't be done once ur flowering all ur doing there is asking for mold or bud rot.if ur looking for something with some micro nut's and u don't have a grow shop local (which i don't) try african voilet plant food home depot has it so does wallmart read the label i mean like a commercial brand like scultz has a good amount of micro nut's just my 2 cents thoe hope it help peace

I had a plant growing and it was about 2 months old. i went on vacation for 3 days when i arrived back home i found my tree was completly white with no leaves and a all white catapillar that was fat as heel on one of the limbs of the tree. I dont know how he got there but he did and by the looks of it he ate the whole tree and it wasnt a lil tree. Should i have ate the catapillar?

i just started growin and my plant has sprouted but i just moved it into a cuboard with a light not a grow light or nay special light jus a good ole garage work shop light..i water in the morning and than around 3 but when i go back to water it looks liek my plant soil is hard as a rock is that because of not gettin air b/c of in the cuboard and its diein b/c of that or im not waterin enough

its not the growin of these things,more difficult is the curing of the plant,when there ready,cut them at the end of there day,hang them in a fairly cool place,where the air is moving a little, and dry them,7 days,then trim them and put in mason jars for curing,take lids off for 2 hrs every day till done,7 more days,so you see,pot wont get you high untill its dry!

wh, i think indica(plus a snow white) the soil is 70/30 organic promix and perfect promix(feeds up to 9 mths). plus im using foxgrow bigbloom (half dose) conditions are good (temp and everything else is good)and could still use a pic of what to look for!!!thanks again

I HAVE A COUPLE OF SMALLER(2 1/2 FEET)FEMALES BUDDING NICE BUT NOT FAT ENOUGH FOR ME...I GREW THEM IN PRETTY LARGE POTS AND USED ONLY MIRACLE GROW SOIL AND WATERED REGULARLY..I DIDNT KNOW WHAT TYPE OF FERTILIZER TO USE ANY RECOMENDATIONS..THE BUDS LOOK AND SMELL GREAT JUST NOT ENOUGH "MEAT" ON THEM

what kind,strain? if indica ,,9 weeks from the date that you put them on 12/12 is a safe bet ,8 weeks if 60% of hairs are red, but it totaly depends on ferts,soil,conditions strain ect. oldsmoke yes it does

There are several reasons for topping and I am not quite sure what your purpose for topping is, but I'll run you through the two ways and reasons I top.

First is for a mother. If you have that special mother plant , you have to clone it right. By keeping the mother at 18hrs of light , the plant will continue to thrive. When the plant is about 1ft or so. Use a cutting tool wiped down with alcohol. Feel free to clip the top and some of the side branches to be used for clones. It's that easy. When the plant regenerates it will create new multiple branches. Repeat this process often and you'll be left with a super bushy , branchy , mother. Which is exactly what you need for your cloning need.

The other reason I top is for multiple branches and bigger harvests. But i would not call it top, but as in HT's state, fimming.
Fimming is a very simply this. Take your plant that is under 18hrs of light. Use a sterile cutting tool, and cut through about 75% of the main branch located just under the very top of the plant. two things could happen next. One is that main stem will saty alive and newer multibranches will appear and thus giving you multiple huge bud tops when you flower. Or is the main stem dies, dont panick, the underbranches with now take over as tops and you will get at least two new tops instead of one. I would recommend both techniques for a killer harvest.

bandit,go get a book for your q.,give plant 18 hrs per day,clone branches,put them under 12/12 and keep the plant you have now as a mother,18 hrs. The book, how to grow the finest weeds is a good book.

can i get some tips on how to keep a plant producing all yr round im in fl. i have good sun good heat and im able to water everyday. p.s. I cloned a plant with no chemicals what so ever. i got good soil and constante flow of water week one so far so good on the clone no rot and it grone about 1/2 inch in the last 2 days, but i would really like some help in the all yr round production of bud, i no it can be done can anybody help me out with this. believe it or not i just found a plant in my fuckin driveway ( i guess from rollin blunts and throwing seeds) today and it looks like it just got to the bud sprouting stage it's about a foot tall.....this is my first plant and everything is lookin as good as it smells, but i don't know were 2 start....i transplanted it to a fairly big pot and that's as far as my knowlegde goes......i have sources but i don't want any myths.........i'm hearing this about soil nutrients like burrying a dead fish or mixing my soil with cow shit. i also heard that it might be worthless because it's a 5 leaf plant:(
i'm going keep it indoors so i need to know all the info for indoor growing. if you can help it would make a very happy fellow pot smoker! plz and thank you
