Burglar Alarms
A burglar alarm might seem like a good idea for protecting your stash, but think about who answers the call when someone breaks in. The security company and, usually, local law enforcement are permitted to enter your home if an alarm is tripped. These are two groups you do not want poking around your place. This is especially true when you go on vacation, because you might be in for a big surprise when you get back.

If you’re truly worried about your safety when living in your own home, you shouldn’t be growing marijuana there. If you’re more interested in keeping your belongings safe, consider a good homeowner’s insurance policy. That way your valuables are covered, and you won’t get any untimely visits from the police.

Padlocks
Padlocking your growroom is a surprisingly effective way of keeping a casual snoop from peeking at your plants. It can also draw suspicion, but with a lock in place, there’s no way for anyone to confirm anything. Also, if you’re wondering if someone has been in your growroom, you’ll know for sure if you find a broken padlock on the floor. It certainly won’t keep out someone determined to get to your plants, but it should still be an essential part of your growroom security.

Trash Disposal
You might think that waiting until the moment the trash collector drives down your street is a smart way to put out your trash. Unfortunately, you aren’t the only one who knows about this technique. One way to confirm that a house is used for growing is to watch how the owner deals with his trash. Warrants have been signed for this type of behavior, so it’s wise to avoid having any of your growroom trash associated with your home.

The best method is to double-bag any incriminating evidence in large black trash bags, put those bags in a cardboard box and take the box out to your car. Remember not to include anything that can connect you to the contents of the bag. Then, sometime during the course of running a few errands, find a discreet trash bin that you can dump the bags into. Don’t forget to keep the box for later use.

mike 182 the best bet is a 250watt HPS light and ballast with a MH conversion bulb also wrap the walls and inside of the door with mylar its cheap and works great use the MH bulb wen vegging (the HPS wen budding) remember flourescents give u fewer lumens per watt (HID's are best)u also want 20-50 watts per square foot and buy the indoor bible author jorge cervantes

Okay I'm running Tor and my machine looks like its logged in from South America or somewhere so I'll get this going again.

Does anyone have any experience with high intensity LED grow lights?

After designing and using the 400w High Intensity Discharge Metal Halide/High Pressure Sodium light bulb mini-grow system for so very long I'm seeing new LED based lighting systems out there.

I understand about the scientific properties of light but I'm still having a powerful knee jerk reaction against believing LEDs can do the same job!

As they explain it, humans happen to see the range of light in a bulb type light so it naturally looks very bright. The light plants thrive on falls into that range but it uses light we can't see too.

Insects, when they look at a flower see a totally different sight than we do. A scientific study did a simulation using fluorescent, phosphorescent, ultraviolet, infrared, etc. cameras to reveal what the insect eye structure sees.

This makes it easier for me to accept that high output LEDs are fully capable of doing the job with an ENORMOUS DROP IN POWER USAGE!

I've seen the graphs and data. You can too at this address. I'm not affiliated with them nor do I know their track record. Its just data to me.

When law enforcement has "evidence" of growing operations,they look for more.Telephone,electric and shipping records for starters.After that they will use a thermal imaging device(about $13,000)to collect evidence,however, a recent Supreme Court decision declared the use of TID's unconstitutional and they CANNOT be used to secure a search warrant.Hope that helps...

Me again. The other cool thing is the memory in the alarm. It keeps trac of "events" so you can see where water level and light and when and WHO acceses your "room". Most systems can hold 16 users and others can holt 1000 users. This means the "master" code holder can audit who has what code and who has been going in and out. This will tell you who is helping out and who is riding on the fruits of the labor of others. What you want are "supervised " zones. If a condition arises that is not "alarm" condition but a "trouble" you can see if a battery needs to be changed or the plants grew to a point where the lights need to be lifted. You can use a light sensor. If this goes into trouble, you may have a light burned out. Why buy all the really expensive grow equipment when you can custom build it yourself, you YUOR needs for less than half the cost. If the power goes out, the alarm will page you sending a "A/C power failure" notification. The alarm will run for about 2 weeks under it's own battery back up power supply. Cool, huh?

Concerning alarms. If you know how to program one you can do A LOT with it. Examples: Lets say you want to protect it from snoopy people or pot burglars. Set up the communication parameter to page YOU not the security company. That way you can decide to race home and deal with it yourself. Don't hook up sirens or bells. This only attracts attention. The other thing you can do is automate your operation. Most systems have relays built into them. OK, bear with me here. If the temperature gets to high a sensor trips a relay in your "alarm" and turns on a fan or a separate zone in you HVAC system. Water level can be monitored and automated the same way. There are timers built in to the system so you can program a schedule. This schedule can be fertlizer once every three days and water the rest of the week for say 2 minutes. Most alarm systems come in 4,8,and 8 zones. The possibilities are endless. You can install a door strike. Enter a code on the keypad and "buzz" your allowed through your secret acces. It's easy as long as you know what your equipment is capable of. The sensors are such that water, climate control, feeding and maintenance reminders can be programmed. The possibilities are endless. The control unit ca be in a separate part of the house and so on. We (I) bolted a cheap safe to the wall with the back of it cut out for a "door". Sealed and everything. The best security is what you don't see.

i live in Australia,k,all was going ok,just a few small ones going for my cronic back pain due to a injury.i done all that is said in this forum for saftey and secrecy of my indoor lot.i had been happily travelling along for 5 or so years.BUT,not much can be done when a damn PIG moves in next door huh??it started straight away with all the questions and trying (very hoplessly and stupidly)befriending me and gaining access to my place.things like lets go in out of this heat for a beer and shit like that,dumb shit dosnt know "I" know its a cop.oh well,maybe it can go and do some "real" police work,like stoping the continuous break ins and car thefts in the area huh???

Your friend is right dude, sorry to say. Cops have equipment they can use to see grow lights in your house. They can detect the hot spot from the grow lights and use that to obtain a search warrant.

I use to be a meter reader for (FPL) florida power & light & there is one sure way to lower your meter usage for growing pot or reducing your bill drasticlly,Simple, just lean a magnet the size of a kitchen table against the wall where your meter is inside, the bigger the magnet the more pull on the meter./ the meter runs on a magnatic pull/draw on your juice by allowing another magnet inside your meter to measure the amount of juice by the spinning wheel.Close range will cause a really big drag on the meter like when you try to put two magnets together in opposite directions!. All indoor grows, should have proper exhaust, consider carbon scrubbers (home made version check hydro report from last year) Exhaust should run to an upper level or Consider cycling the air. Dont run TV's, Washers/dryers, microwaves in your grow house. Replace all bulbs with compact fluorsent bulbs to save energy. Know your limits and know your regular energy consumption, check your bills for usage records. Generators are usually best in rural settings, the hum can be an indicator of something fishy when your neighbor/narc is mowing. And finally burn your damn trash!

This will show that you have 3,000 watts of usage on a timer for a 12 hour period. You will never know that the device is being used. This does not prove you are growing POT but that you have lights doing something. With the other fabricated probable cause they will present........ well you know!

Lesson for today .... electricity can get you in trouble. The COPs put in the affidavit for a search warrant that examination of subjects electric records revealed Property was using excessive amounts of electricity. He gave no examples. He did not say what the readings were. He did not say for what months he checked. He just gave a bare bones statement with no evidence. The subject wrote the power company and explained that he lived in a mobile home with no shade and that his power bill was about $150.00 a month. The power company replied that this was a LOW amount and that most people in the same condition were using as much as $300.00 a month or more. They also said that they had not released subjects information to anyone. And that no requests had been made for the records. The cops had not even guessed correctly as to which houses were in whose names. I proved this and of course you know who lacy sided with. Subject proved that the COP never saw records legally and that the usage was not high but low. Lacy the guy judge upheld what the cop said by reasoning that it did not matter if the bills were not high as long as the cops believed the lie they had made up, that they were high. There were three seperate mobile homes with three different electric bills in two different peoples names and different addresses. Lacy refused to treat the residences as seperate because they were on the same piece of property. You know like a trailer park. How the cops got copies of subjects records was of no concern to Lacy. Of course the electric company either gave them the info illegally or the electric meter reader gave it to them illegally. Which of course would be Hearsay. One other thing. The electric company has a device which counts wattage used over the course of a certain period. It must be placed on your electrical lines between the pole and your house. If you have 3, 1,000 watt lights coming on at 6 am and going off at 6 pm it will show this.

If they want to search your property and you don't give them probable cause to do so then they will just invent it, and the judges will ignor the obvious to protect their buddies in law enforcement. He did not even look at the pictures which would have shown lie after lie had been told. The federal judge would not allow us to claim there were any lies in the affidavit and had already made up his mind before the hearing. This was in 1993. I received a 5 year minimim mandatory sentence for 708 plants and it was doubled to 10 years for a prior misdeamenor drug charge that I had from 1979. O you say they can't do that. Your right. 4 years later ,upon appeal, the 5 year enhancement was taken off by the district court because I proved it was a misdemenor. But they new it all along. I was alone. The persecuting judge was there. The persecuting kprosecutor was there. And of course the persecuting defense attorney that they appoint for you is there. 3 persecutores against one. This supposedly happened in June. They had to do a flyover of the southern part of Washington county to find my property. Took them 3 days to find 3 trailers grouped in a circle. The C.I. does not give a description of PHIL. My name is not Phil it is Philip. No one has ever called me PHIL. The C.I. never went to my residence and said, yes this is the UNKNOWN location I was at. The C.I. never identified me as Phil And I was turning a crop every 42 days not 90 days. Also remember the other statement the affients gave. Excessive security. No strangers allowed on property. Dogs. I purchased property and placed someone else there. To make this long story short. Bottom line is this. In my Warrant suppression hearing the federal judge said under no circumstances would we be allowed to challenge the truthfullness of the affidavit. (9) Examination of the power bills revealed high power usage. (no examples given and later I proved that he had never seen my power bills). (10) A constructed wooden building attached to a mobile home was sealed with black felt paper. All of the windows on this home were covered with a reflective substance to block out the sun/visibility. ( The wooden building was painted 2 colors of brown and I proved the windows had no reflective substances but had shades and curtains).Pictures. What is funny is that they gave pictures to the Judge which countered every bit of what the cops said but the judge never looked at the pictures. (11) Mobile home #3 . All windows were covered. There are no steps at the back of the residence #3. ( The pictures showed that sunlight was shining through two of the windows and right there in living color were the steps. He also made reference to the power bill from this home, but again I proved he had never saw my power bills). (11) Subject does not leave a paper trail. (The cop had described my purchasing the property, my address, purchases of grow equipment, seeds, and power bills,ect. and then says I don't leave a paper trail. One thing I forgot. Remember He said that activity picked up every 45 to 90 days. They had only been watching my for about 40 days and the affient stated that he had only watched the house on about 10 occasions. Ask yourself this. What activity? How many 45-90 day periods are ther in 40 days? He watched on 10 occasions. What was going on the other days he did not watch? Funny. Judge allowed it.

They claimed that what I bought was grow equipment but they did not know what was in the packages only that purchases had been made. Anything could have been ordered. Judge allowed it.The affient then went on to state the following:(1) The property has excessive security (no examples were given, however the 3 mobile homes had doors and windows).(2) The property had excessive power consumption! (no examples were given) (3)Bags, Boxes, or suitcases frequently carried in or out of the residences.(4) Strangers are discourages from the property! (5) Increased activity appears to be at the site every 45-90 days! (no example of what kind of activity were given). (6) The subject does not appear to work! Here is my favorite.(7) The subject goes on unexplained trips! This really gets me. He just said I don't appear to work. And then He is granted probable cause to search because when I leave my residence I don't call the cops and let them know where I am going. Do YOU? (8) The subject purchases property and places someone else there! (no one else was living there but me).

I was busted in 1993. Here are a few of the things they used to get a search warrant. They had complete records of every seed transaction from where someone at my address had purchased seeds from the Seed Bank in Holland. I have that paper work. Its says that they purchased the mailing list from the seed bank. The purchases were made in 1989. Even though 4 years had gone by and the address they wanted to search was 30 miles from where the seeds were delivered the judge said OK. They said that my name and address had been on the green merchants list as ordering more grow equipment than any other name ever found on the list. UPS furnished allmost all of this information without a warrant. SGS's records were seized and it showed that in 1984 a timer and co2 monitor had been purchased.The total purchases from 10-15-84 thru 09-18-89 were $1051.05. Over 4 years had passed before the last recorded purchases and my bust. None of the addresses were mine and I proved later that none of the addresses even existed except for one of them. The house they wanted to search was over 30 miles from where they said the deliveries were made. Judge said OK.

if you have a 400watt light you can keep a little garden with little attention. Most TVs pull much more watts like 600 to 800. And microwaves, forget about it! up to 1200watts for a microwave on high. I like to only run for 18hr and even shut lights for an hour at noon. to save energy because everyone needs to do their part. Also seeds are okay online. a lot of sub strains going around, beware! I suggest a clone of a proven strain. AsK your friends to ask around for you. EVEN GOOD SWAGGWEED SEED can give you a nice plant. If your town is dry, find new friends or move, or grow your own

There is nothing wrong with growning a few medical plants to treat your illness/ medical problem. In fact under a doctors care it is legal to grow a few plants or but from a shop. Marijuana has helped me and may other with grave sickness and has helped where pills failed. I only know what works for me. The fact I smoke marijuana is not a social but a life or death issue. I stress not to go out of your way to show you use marijuana. If you use it to get high and party , you face years in prison as with pills or other drugs. Medication is for when you are sick not to have fun on. When you need the medication , it may not work like it should! this is what party drugs are not good.

Outdoor gardens are not so good yield wise unless you have alot. The buds are loose and not as dense as indoor garden buds. Not to mention it is a lot harder to control the weather and light regiments outdoors. Some strains require up to 18 weeks for full flower and some states will frost before that happens
