420 Campaign - Top Ten Reasons Marijuana Should Be Legal
Tue, Mar 13, 2007 4:10 pm
Here are our top ten reasons marijuana should be legalized:
10. Prohibition has failed to control the use and domestic production of marijuana.
The government has tried to use criminal penalties to prevent marijuana use for over 75 years and yet: marijuana is now used by over 25 million people annually, cannabis is currently the largest cash crop in the United States, and marijuana is grown all over the planet. Claims that marijuana prohibition is a successful policy are ludicrous and unsupported by the facts, and the idea that marijuana will soon be eliminated from America and the rest of the world is a ridiculous fantasy.
9. Arrests for marijuana possession disproportionately affect blacks and Hispanics and reinforce the perception that law enforcement is biased and prejudiced against minorities.
African-Americans account for approximately 13% of the population of the United States and about 13.5% of annual marijuana users, however, blacks also account for 26% of all marijuana arrests. Recent studies have demonstrated that blacks and Hispanics account for the majority of marijuana possession arrests in New York City, primarily for smoking marijuana in public view. Law enforcement has failed to demonstrate that marijuana laws can be enforced fairly without regard to race; far too often minorities are arrested for marijuana use while white/non-Hispanic Americans face a much lower risk of arrest.
8. A regulated, legal market in marijuana would reduce marijuana sales and use among teenagers, as well as reduce their exposure to other drugs in the illegal market.
The illegality of marijuana makes it more valuable than if it were legal, providing opportunities for teenagers to make easy money selling it to their friends. If the excessive profits for marijuana sales were ended through legalization there would be less incentive for teens to sell it to one another. Teenage use of alcohol and tobacco remain serious public health problems even though those drugs are legal for adults, however, the availability of alcohol and tobacco is not made even more widespread by providing kids with economic incentives to sell either one to their friends and peers.
7. Legalized marijuana would reduce the flow of money from the American economy to international criminal gangs.
Marijuana’s illegality makes foreign cultivation and smuggling to the United States extremely profitable, sending billions of dollars overseas in an underground economy while diverting funds from productive economic development.
6. Marijuana’s legalization would simplify the development of hemp as a valuable and diverse agricultural crop in the United States, including its development as a new bio-fuel to reduce carbon emissions.
Canada and European countries have managed to support legal hemp cultivation without legalizing marijuana, but in the United States opposition to legal marijuana remains the biggest obstacle to development of industrial hemp as a valuable agricultural commodity. As US energy policy continues to embrace and promote the development of bio-fuels as an alternative to oil dependency and a way to reduce carbon emissions, it is all the more important to develop industrial hemp as a bio-fuel source – especially since use of hemp stalks as a fuel source will not increase demand and prices for food, such as corn. Legalization of marijuana will greatly simplify the regulatory burden on prospective hemp cultivation in the United States.
5. Prohibition is based on lies and disinformation.
Justification of marijuana’s illegality increasingly requires distortions and selective uses of the scientific record, causing harm to the credibility of teachers, law enforcement officials, and scientists throughout the country. The dangers of marijuana use have been exaggerated for almost a century and the modern scientific record does not support the reefer madness predictions of the past and present. Many claims of marijuana’s danger are based on old 20th century prejudices that originated in a time when science was uncertain how marijuana produced its characteristic effects. Since the cannabinoid receptor system was discovered in the late 1980s these hysterical concerns about marijuana’s dangerousness have not been confirmed with modern research. Everyone agrees that marijuana, or any other drug use such as alcohol or tobacco use, is not for children. Nonetheless, adults have demonstrated over the last several decades that marijuana can be used moderately without harmful impacts to the individual or society.
4. Marijuana is not a lethal drug and is safer than alcohol.
It is established scientific fact that marijuana is not toxic to humans; marijuana overdoses are nearly impossible, and marijuana is not nearly as addictive as alcohol or tobacco. It is unfair and unjust to treat marijuana users more harshly under the law than the users of alcohol or tobacco.
3. Marijuana is too expensive for our justice system and should instead be taxed to support beneficial government programs.
Law enforcement has more important responsibilities than arresting 750,000 individuals a year for marijuana possession, especially given the additional justice costs of disposing of each of these cases. Marijuana arrests make justice more expensive and less efficient in the United States, wasting jail space, clogging up court systems, and diverting time of police, attorneys, judges, and corrections officials away from violent crime, the sexual abuse of children, and terrorism. Furthermore, taxation of marijuana can provide needed and generous funding of many important criminal justice and social programs.
2. Marijuana use has positive attributes, such as its medical value and use as a recreational drug with relatively mild side effects.
Many people use marijuana because they have made an informed decision that it is good for them, especially Americans suffering from a variety of serious ailments. Marijuana provides relief from pain, nausea, spasticity, and other symptoms for many individuals who have not been treated successfully with conventional medications. Many American adults prefer marijuana to the use of alcohol as a mild and moderate way to relax. Americans use marijuana because they choose to, and one of the reasons for that choice is their personal observation that the drug has a relatively low dependence liability and easy-to-manage side effects. Most marijuana users develop tolerance to many of marijuana’s side effects, and those who do not, choose to stop using the drug. Marijuana use is the result of informed consent in which individuals have decided that the benefits of use outweigh the risks, especially since, for most Americans, the greatest risk of using marijuana is the relatively low risk of arrest.
1. Marijuana users are determined to stand up to the injustice of marijuana probation and accomplish legalization, no matter how long or what it takes to succeed.
Despite the threat of arrests and a variety of other punishments and sanctions marijuana users have persisted in their support for legalization for over a generation. They refuse to give up their long quest for justice because they believe in the fundamental values of American society. Prohibition has failed to silence marijuana users despite its best attempts over the last generation. The issue of marijuana’s legalization is a persistent issue that, like marijuana, will simply not go away. Marijuana will be legalized because marijuana users will continue to fight for it until they succeed.

1. The most effective way to smoke is actually a vaporizer.. it uses the most THC without wasting it
2. The affect of cigarettes after smoking.. I personally think it depends on the person
jman
Dec 30 2009, 2:24 am
Also... think about the first time you smoked, dank or dirt: You were seriously impaired. How many people would try it for the first time once it became legal? Quite a few... how many people could potentially put themselves in bad situations during their beginning smoking stage, being more impaired as you would off of a lot of drugs? Quite a few.
Now... if you told me you had a love for cannabis that was stronger than mine, I couldn't believe you. Take that into account as well if reading. One more point : Marijuana is the biggest gateway drug in the world. That alone is enough to keep it illegal. The arguments against it in most cases outweight the arguments for it in my opinion.

useful in many ways. Medical patients can get their medicine faster and of better quality.
The FDA will be able to regulate the quality and control of the substance. The facts will
be known and out there, preventable ways of exposure can be brought upon and taught to
our peers and young ones. There are ways of staying away, but the legalization is critical,
not only do we benefit from the legalization but so does our government. The fact that
it’s just as harmful as alcohol and tobacco speak for itself.

I am pushing for New Orleans-post Katrina-to return to its roots and legalize prostitution and pot. Hell, the red light district could use some cleaning up and legalized or "tolerated" coffee shops much like Amsterdam would help the city generate enough tax money to build all the levees they want!
The state and the city are drowning in debt (pun intended).

Why should marijuana be legalized? There are endless reasons why marijuan
should be lgealized. One reason marijuana should be legalized is because it is a
natural seed that grows into a plant. It comes from the earth it's not man made
like other drugs. Another reason why marijuana should be legalized is because
marijuana unlike other drugs will not kill you the first time you experience it. Meth,
Coke, Acid, Heroin man made drugs can kill you the first time you try them, and
yes our very own legal alcohol can also. Ever herd of drunk driving, its the
number one death in America for teens. Finally my last reason why marijuana
should be legalized is because it would help our goverment out. It sounds
crazy but the increase in money will increase for the goverment.
Marijuana is a plant that comes from a seed and is grown. It needs water, sun,
and oxygen just like every plant on this whole world, from here in New Jersey
all the way to Australia. It can be home grown or found from the ground. In
High Times Magazine it says " More than 26,000 marijuana plants were
removed by the combined effort of Federal and State agencies over the past
week from public lands over Springville." This was recorded Sat August 2,
2008.
Which brings me to my next reason why marijuana should be legalized, when
you experience marijuana for your first time you will not die from it nor will you
become addicted to it. Crack cocain can stop your heart the first time you
snort, inject, or smoke it. X or exdecy can cause your brain to over heat and
evenutally lead to death. The first time you smoke marijuana you might not
even get high, it could take you a few trys. Which is good with marijuana
because it is not a addictive drug at all, so if you try it again and do not like
it you can simply say no thank you.
My last reason why marijuana should be legalized is because it will help our
goverment in so many ways its not even funny. For one the
goverment will make alot of money off the taxes of marijuana. It will help cut
down on alot of illegal actions that have to deal with marijuana if the
goverment taxes marijuana. In High TImes Magazine " 10 reasons why
marijuana should be legal " it says " Legalized marijuana would reduce the
flow of money from the American economy to international criminal gangs."
America would make more money if taxing marijuana than probally almost
anything in the world because marijuana is a ever lasting plant. When you
grow a marijuana plant it produces seeds. Which you can use thoes seeds to
make more plants and have a endless amount of marijuana.
If the goverment legalizes marijuana it will be the best move they have ever
done. It's the right thing to do, it will bring the crime rate in the U.S down alot
and make the U.S look like a better country. Also it will make over 750,000
people happier.

i know alot about marijuana and its good and bad effects. i also know why people would not want to legalize it,sometimes it can make people lazy and not give a damn but if you are responsible it can be a new begining to your life. i for one am a firm believer that gonja is more than just a "drug" im glad your not like that aala person or whatever, saying that it kills...they really need to do more research than just listening to haters. but i agree these reasons arent that great, so please check out hempfest.org. please it truely gives all the facts. anyway go to a hempfest near where you live. it is an experience you will never ever forget! to everybody: keep smokin the ganja and never ever let the government put you down!!

So how about let's all play the old time Capitalist Pig game and just buy what we want from Congress. And why not all the other big businesses are doing it, aren't they?
So; how many of you out there would be willing to spend a measly $5 a month for just 1 year to get the job done and get the cops and their threats out of our lives forever?
I'm ready, are you?

The unreal amount of money we spend locking up peacefull herb smokers is hard to beleive, however its only a fraction of what is spent on our goverments other never ending war. The dreaded War on Terror. the fact is however that prisons are built in areas whose economies are very poor and dependant on them for jobs.
What we need to do in the election that really is coming up is elect someone clue recognizes that the war on "drugs" & "terror" are both just slogans that fail to acomplish anything.

Alcohol - Repealed
Sep 5 2007, 7:29 am
Article XXI, Ratified in 1933
WHERE WAS THE (CSA) IN 1933 FOR ALCOHOL AND WHAT SCHEDULE DRUG IS ALCOHOL CONSIDERED?
ALCOHOL WAS RATIFIED AND REPEALED, NOT UNDER THE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE ACT.
Cannabis rescheduling in the United States is the proposed removal of marijuana from schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act, the most tightly restricted category of drugs, by the U.S. Congress or the Attorney General.
THE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE ACT (CSA) WAS ENACTED INTO LAW BY THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES AS TITLE II OF THE COMPREHENSIVE DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION AND CONTROL ACT OF 1970. HOOKED ON FUCKING PHONICS!
WHERE WAS THE (CSA) IN 1933 FOR ALCOHOL, AND WHAT SCHEDULE DRUG IS ALCOHOL CONSIDERED? HOLY SHIT!
THE LEGISLATION CREATED FIVE SCHEDULES , WITH VARYING QUALIFICATIONS FOR A DRUG TO BE INCLUDED IN EACH WHILE DRINKING A BOTTLE OF JACK DANIELS AND JIM BEAM? SO ALCOHOL IS OVER THE COUNTER MEDICINE?
TOBACCO, BEER, WINE, AND SPIRTS (GHOSTS) ARE EXPLICITLY EXEMPT FROM THE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE ACT? WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THAT?
SCHEDULE I DRUGS
(A) THE DRUG OR OTHER SUBSTANCE HAS HIGH POTENTIAL FOR ABUSE? ALCOHOL REHAB?
(B) THE DRUG OR OTHER SUBSTANCE HAS NO CURRENTLY ACCEPTED MEDICAL USE IN TREATMENT IN THE UNITED STATES? ALCOHOL IS FOR MEDICAL USE?
(C) THERE IS A LACK OF ACCEPTED SAFETY FOR USE OF THE DRUG OR OTHER SUBSTANCE UNDER MEDICAL SUPERVISION. DRINK A PINT OF RUM AND CALL ME IN THE MORNING? HOW FUCKING STUPID ARE THESE PEOPLE?

ANARCHISM
Aug 28 2007, 9:10 pm
1. The state of a society being without authoritarians or a governing body.
2. A chaotic and confusing absence of any form of political authority or government.
3. Anarchism; the political theory that a community is best organized by voluntary cooperation of individuals, rather than by coercive government.
4. confusion in general; disorder.
Anarcho-capitalism see free-market capitalism as the basis for a free society. Anarcho-capitalist Murray Rothbard defined free-market capitalism as "peaceful voluntary exchange," in contrast to "state capitalism," which he defined as a collusive partnership between business and government that uses coercion to subvert the FREE market.

Ravin v. STATE of Alaska
Aug 18 2007, 5:53 am
THe constitutionality of Alaska's statute prohibiting posession of marijuana is put in issue in this case. Petitioner Ravin was arrested in 1972 and charged with violating AS 17.12.010. Before trial Ravin attacked the constitutionality of privacy under both the federal and Alaska constitutions, and further violated the equal protection provisions of the state and federal constitutions....
Here Ravin raises two basic claims: first, that there is no legitimate state interest in prohibiting possession of marijuana by adults for personal use, in view of the right to privacy; and secondly, that the statutory classification of marijuana as a dangerous drug, while use of alcohol and tobacco is not prohibited, denies him due process and equel protection of law.
We first address petitioner's contentions that his constitutionally protected right to privacy compels the conclusion that the State of Alaska is prohibited from penalizing the private possession and use of marijuana. Ravin's basic theses is that there exists uner the federal and Alaska constututions a fundemental right to privacy, the scope of which is sufficiently broad to encompass and protect the possession of marijuana. In light of these controlling principles, petitioner argues that the evidence submitted below by both sides demonstrates that marijuana is a relatively innocuous substance, at least as compared with other less-restricted substances, and that nothing even approaching a compelling state interest was proven by the State.

THE BILL OF RIGHTS
Aug 16 2007, 7:51 am
CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION, OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF; OR ABRIDGING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, OR OF THE PRESS; OR THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE, AND TO PETITION THE government FOR A REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES.
ARTICLE X.
THE POWERS NOT DELEGATED TO THE UNITED STATES BY THE CONSTITUTION, NOR PROHIBITED BY IT TO THE STATES, ARE RESERVED TO THE STATES RESPECTIVELY, OR TO THE PEOPLE.
WHO MAKES THE LAWS IN GOVERNMENT
Only the legislature can make laws and they MUST be within the limits set forth in the Constitution. To assume that every bill passed is a law would be giving a power to the legislature that they can not have. To accept an illegal law would be accepting despotism even it it was said to be for the public good.
"Sometimes when the public good is pretended, a private benefit is intended."
Coke, 10 Rep. 142 b.
"The public good is in nothing more essentially interested than the protection of every individual's private rights."
"NO ONE IS BOUND TO OBEY AN UNCONSTITUTIONAL LAW AND NO COURTS ARE BOUND TO ENFORCE IT."
"THE ILLEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA IS AN UNCONSTITUTIONAL LAW."

What was in the minds and hearts of the fifty-five delegates that gathered in Philadelphia during the four months of deliberation, controversy and compromise that led to The Constitution of the United States of America? The answer lies within the records taken at the convention, bongs, rolling papers, case of coor's light, diaries of acid trips, Cannabis filled pipes and letters written by delegates on mushrooms.

our laws are supposed to elect the will of the people of america, but they dont.
Ralf nader coulda made it happen, he was right on on so many topics, people talk about goinn out adn voting, we have good intention, we're just not willing to put out the effort necessary to succeed.
but it's all good, all these ideas or refer madness are diminishing more and more all the time, our generation is gonna have weed legalized.

One more thing... It pisses "them" off the term "high" or "smoking stuff to get high". Why does it bother them? Are they jealous? Is it too easy? Should we have to inject it?
I was busted 40 years ago for ditch weed and it's still illegal. If we can't do one thing to help the 420 movement at least try to do one thing. Talk to one person that doesn't agree with you.

Regarding reason number 8:
The reason teenagers sell marijuana isn't souly based on the cash profit, they sell it because the people who buy it smoke weed. For ever drug dealer, you have to assume there is at LEAST 3 people who buy with the intent to smoke. Thus, if marijuana was lagalized, don't you think that those with the intent to consume would have an easier time getting ahold of marijuana?

Dare I say: Weed could save this country from it's debt.
Although I'm pushing this idea of taxing pot, I'm still against making pot into a commercial product. It's quite the conundrum. The good thing about marijuana is that it can be grown anywhere, it's not called weed for nothing. Call it an conspiracy but I think that corporations don't want to prohibition to end because pot is a plant of the people.
I will say that during the 60s and 70s when weed prospered there were a couple similar factors that are apparent today:1) untrustworthy presidents in office;2) War that was unwinable; 3) Depressed youth with a feeling of action; 4)New arts arising .
Now we just need to find another Carter.

I think that inhaling or ingesting any substance that alters your state of mind or body ain't good for you (not that you shouldn't ever do anything that wasn't good for you, that'd be boring) but know your s***, be careful and be responsible and if someone doesn't want toke, leave 'em be. It's your choice to smoke and if you want people to respect that you need to respect people if they choose not to too.
Anyways, be smart, be respectful and please, don't smoke and drive.

Why we continue to arrest 750,000 Americans for Pot offenses every year is beyond me. We spend $30K a year to keep non-violent offenders in the company of murderers, rapists, and theives, and expect them to be "corrected".

I'm torn between legalizing and keeping it on the down low--of course I would love it if my paranoia wasn't justified, but I'm a busy girl and I can hardly afford that shit as it is. Gov't will tax the hell out of it...but then again, I'd just grow my own damn plants! So yeah, LEGALIZE BITCH, as they say. Yes, I said it, it is addictive, but way the hell less harmful than any of the above. I believe that my addiction is because I know that if I have a chance, a toke or two is the quickest way for me to either focus on my task, OR forget about my problems.
It is really (for me anyway) like a cup of coffee, and I have managed to live the last 20 years of my adult life being a very productive, well liked, tax paying American. Abolutely NO negative impacts on my life from my marijuana use, other than feeling guilty for breaking the law.
Marijuana, Ganja, Herb, Weed, Etc.... is NOT just a minority pursuit and our governement should realize that. I'm a 38 year-old white guy, kind of upper-middle class (trying). I have seen so many f'd people in the midwest on crack or meth that you would think that our elected officials would finally have the balls to stand up and demand that all of the the resources in the "Drug-War" go to stopping this blight on society, and draw the distinction between Hard/Soft drugs. Look at some before and after pics of Meth users on the net - they are out there, and tell the tale.
Basically, pot illegality is a way to keep the prison/police/drug testing industries busy and profitable, keep minorities in-check for their choice in recreation, and make sure that the alcohol, tobacco and of course the pharmaceutical industry reap their profits.
Oh yeah, I'm a conservative Rebublican - voted for GW twice. (regret it a little though)

therefore, alcohol production is easily controlled. The same principle can be applied to tobacco. ya cant just grow a tobacco plant anywhere. but, weed is far too difficult to control, and therefore is too hard to tax, which means it wont be legalized until our government can make a profit.

A lot of people that post here are not fully concerned with their English. It isn't like this is a graded paper. There are also younger people that post on this site, though some of them have better English than some of the older ones.
Yes, I know I make mistakes in my writing too. I am not perfect, but I'm also not getting onto everybody in here to go to an English class.

There are many jobs that do not invade people's privacy with urinalysis, and many people can still hold a job if their workplace does. Most of us want it legalized so we can be rid of the dealers, and all illegal aspects of this. Not all marijuana users are potheads, and most are not idiots. At least as far as my experience has shown. Drinking and driving is incredibly dangerous and illegal. How would that be better than marijuana? I'm not saying smoking marijuana and driving is a good idea, but it is much safer than drinking and driving. Most of those that drive after smoking marijuana compensate for the negative affects to their driving skills. Drunk driving is a bad decision from the start, and they do not generally compensate for their level of inebriation.

His points are flawed anyway. Most of the people that talk like that are the ones that come in here to bad mouth legalization and anyone who uses marijuana.
I just wish I knew why these people who have such big problems with it visit this site and post to begin with. They act like their words will in some way sway us from our beliefs. And none of them seem to have the faintest knowledge of the truth of marijuana.
Their heads are filled with lies, and they seem to suffer from willfull blindness. If they are even reading the articles, they aren't actually doing it to learn something new. They rarely even try to refute any of the articles in their posts.
