420 Campaign - Top Ten Reasons Marijuana Should Be Legal

Tue, Mar 13, 2007 4:10 pm

The readers of HIGH TIMES want marijuana legalized, nationwide, and now. The 420 Campaign is a plan to bring legalization before the US Congress and the public. We want to use April 20th as a focal point every year to concentrate pressure on Congress to legalize marijuana until we get the job done.

Here are our top ten reasons marijuana should be legalized:

10. Prohibition has failed to control the use and domestic production of marijuana.
The government has tried to use criminal penalties to prevent marijuana use for over 75 years and yet: marijuana is now used by over 25 million people annually, cannabis is currently the largest cash crop in the United States, and marijuana is grown all over the planet. Claims that marijuana prohibition is a successful policy are ludicrous and unsupported by the facts, and the idea that marijuana will soon be eliminated from America and the rest of the world is a ridiculous fantasy.

9. Arrests for marijuana possession disproportionately affect blacks and Hispanics and reinforce the perception that law enforcement is biased and prejudiced against minorities.
African-Americans account for approximately 13% of the population of the United States and about 13.5% of annual marijuana users, however, blacks also account for 26% of all marijuana arrests. Recent studies have demonstrated that blacks and Hispanics account for the majority of marijuana possession arrests in New York City, primarily for smoking marijuana in public view. Law enforcement has failed to demonstrate that marijuana laws can be enforced fairly without regard to race; far too often minorities are arrested for marijuana use while white/non-Hispanic Americans face a much lower risk of arrest.

8. A regulated, legal market in marijuana would reduce marijuana sales and use among teenagers, as well as reduce their exposure to other drugs in the illegal market.
The illegality of marijuana makes it more valuable than if it were legal, providing opportunities for teenagers to make easy money selling it to their friends. If the excessive profits for marijuana sales were ended through legalization there would be less incentive for teens to sell it to one another. Teenage use of alcohol and tobacco remain serious public health problems even though those drugs are legal for adults, however, the availability of alcohol and tobacco is not made even more widespread by providing kids with economic incentives to sell either one to their friends and peers.

7. Legalized marijuana would reduce the flow of money from the American economy to international criminal gangs.
Marijuana’s illegality makes foreign cultivation and smuggling to the United States extremely profitable, sending billions of dollars overseas in an underground economy while diverting funds from productive economic development.

6. Marijuana’s legalization would simplify the development of hemp as a valuable and diverse agricultural crop in the United States, including its development as a new bio-fuel to reduce carbon emissions.
Canada and European countries have managed to support legal hemp cultivation without legalizing marijuana, but in the United States opposition to legal marijuana remains the biggest obstacle to development of industrial hemp as a valuable agricultural commodity. As US energy policy continues to embrace and promote the development of bio-fuels as an alternative to oil dependency and a way to reduce carbon emissions, it is all the more important to develop industrial hemp as a bio-fuel source – especially since use of hemp stalks as a fuel source will not increase demand and prices for food, such as corn. Legalization of marijuana will greatly simplify the regulatory burden on prospective hemp cultivation in the United States.

5. Prohibition is based on lies and disinformation.
Justification of marijuana’s illegality increasingly requires distortions and selective uses of the scientific record, causing harm to the credibility of teachers, law enforcement officials, and scientists throughout the country. The dangers of marijuana use have been exaggerated for almost a century and the modern scientific record does not support the reefer madness predictions of the past and present. Many claims of marijuana’s danger are based on old 20th century prejudices that originated in a time when science was uncertain how marijuana produced its characteristic effects. Since the cannabinoid receptor system was discovered in the late 1980s these hysterical concerns about marijuana’s dangerousness have not been confirmed with modern research. Everyone agrees that marijuana, or any other drug use such as alcohol or tobacco use, is not for children. Nonetheless, adults have demonstrated over the last several decades that marijuana can be used moderately without harmful impacts to the individual or society.

4. Marijuana is not a lethal drug and is safer than alcohol.
It is established scientific fact that marijuana is not toxic to humans; marijuana overdoses are nearly impossible, and marijuana is not nearly as addictive as alcohol or tobacco. It is unfair and unjust to treat marijuana users more harshly under the law than the users of alcohol or tobacco.

3. Marijuana is too expensive for our justice system and should instead be taxed to support beneficial government programs.
Law enforcement has more important responsibilities than arresting 750,000 individuals a year for marijuana possession, especially given the additional justice costs of disposing of each of these cases. Marijuana arrests make justice more expensive and less efficient in the United States, wasting jail space, clogging up court systems, and diverting time of police, attorneys, judges, and corrections officials away from violent crime, the sexual abuse of children, and terrorism. Furthermore, taxation of marijuana can provide needed and generous funding of many important criminal justice and social programs.

2. Marijuana use has positive attributes, such as its medical value and use as a recreational drug with relatively mild side effects.
Many people use marijuana because they have made an informed decision that it is good for them, especially Americans suffering from a variety of serious ailments. Marijuana provides relief from pain, nausea, spasticity, and other symptoms for many individuals who have not been treated successfully with conventional medications. Many American adults prefer marijuana to the use of alcohol as a mild and moderate way to relax. Americans use marijuana because they choose to, and one of the reasons for that choice is their personal observation that the drug has a relatively low dependence liability and easy-to-manage side effects. Most marijuana users develop tolerance to many of marijuana’s side effects, and those who do not, choose to stop using the drug. Marijuana use is the result of informed consent in which individuals have decided that the benefits of use outweigh the risks, especially since, for most Americans, the greatest risk of using marijuana is the relatively low risk of arrest.

1. Marijuana users are determined to stand up to the injustice of marijuana probation and accomplish legalization, no matter how long or what it takes to succeed.
Despite the threat of arrests and a variety of other punishments and sanctions marijuana users have persisted in their support for legalization for over a generation. They refuse to give up their long quest for justice because they believe in the fundamental values of American society. Prohibition has failed to silence marijuana users despite its best attempts over the last generation. The issue of marijuana’s legalization is a persistent issue that, like marijuana, will simply not go away. Marijuana will be legalized because marijuana users will continue to fight for it until they succeed.

I've been smoking weed since I was 15, in 1975. I've always loved it, still do to this day. I've always had a job until recently when I was let go because of the economy. I've been married for 22 years, and still have 1 son at home, and the other boy is a snior in college. I've coached baseball for over 10 years, been very involved in the community, volunteering, etc. Smoking pot has never held me back from being a responsible adult. I prefer it much more than drinking, but the one thing that scares the hell out of me are drug tests. Now that I'm out pounding the pavement for a job, I've stopped smoking so I can pass a fucking drug test. This is just total bullshit. I've never gone to work stoned, nor done any while there. Talk about unjust disrimination, why just cause I like to toke up when I'm out playing golf in the woods, or home at night with the wife just wanting to unwind, and maybe watch a good movie. It's time to legalize it, NOW!

In this day and age we try very hard to do what is best for our country in ways that would be very helpful. I believe that America as a whole is ready for change. It is now, It is time for us to standup for what we believe in and fight whole heartedly. Our relaxation is just as important us as that is to the person who drinks for their relaxing moment.
As it is writtin "We the of the United States" We are the people so let us all fight for our right to relax the way we want.

I have't smoked pot since I was 15 (a very long time ago). The government doesn't want to change. Think of all of that money that is spent on the war on drugs. They don't want to win that either, They would lose their funding also. But the people of the US need to wake up and realize that their so called war is only about money and power. On the surface they say it is about the destruction of our society. It's not. I think for the people to really be free, they need to legalize all drugs and let you make your own decisions. I want the government to leave me alone. I pay too much taxes as it is. Stay out of my wallet and leave me alone. Pot being illegal is rediculous!

So I have been a stoner for a little over 5 years now. Love the hell out of it. But I have always wondered 3 questions that have never been answered for me...

1. Between my prefered 3 ways of smoking( Joint, Smoking Stone, Corn cob pipe.) which is more effective technically?

2. Why does Frosty the Snowman have a corn cob, and why does he never share with his children? lol

3. Does smoking a Cigarette after a good ten increase your high? Or does it just make you Couch-Locked?

Can someone plz answer these Q's for me?
Thanks in advanced!
Peace!

i agree smoking cigs only feels worse each day and smoking weed well to be honest its a mood adjuster and if you have troubles going to sleep , trust me this will work better than tylnol sleeping pills. I also think its more of a prestigious product ratter then your 5.99 cheap trill of cigs ( your only paying for the cost of the package) while weed well if there was a pretty good looking package for this product the tabacoo industry would be out of business and of course they cant / wont have another compettion in there industry, especially something that actually stimulates the mind and doesnt take 20 cigs a day to reach that first buzz off a cigg not to mention the cliental that would be lost and not to metion the positive side effects of natural herbs and possibles ways to create ideas with pot. When have you ever heard tabbacoo tea? Never! But you will here weed tea, weed brownies and other creative ideas that simply would make more money then the tabacco industry. trust me that would be a tabbaccos ceo worst nightmare but he would also be moving into the weed industry just because it's gonna make people happy when they smoke not worried . Im done for now.

This is so incredible and pro-active! I love it! Knowledge is Power, and we need to show the other people who don't understand plant medicene, that there is NOTHING to be afraid of or stress about. It has been used without any law for a documented 8,000 years, and a speculated 12,000 years. Plus, Marijuana is a WEED!!! Come on Government World Leaders, don't be such control freaks. Your misuse of power and hunger for constant control is suffocating our country, and misinforming our people. And GO GREEN BIO DIESEL!! Way cool! Not to mention clothes, paper, building materials, waterproof products, and all the other awesome stuff you can make with hemp. A hemp seed has 6 X's the Protein of a soy bean. The oils heal topical, internal, and mental discomforts/diagnosis. It's a natural anti-aging serum. I could go on and on about all the pros and none of the cons....
Love You Mary Jane! xoxoxo!

Overall marijuana has both its ups and downs, but the effects it incurs are

useful in many ways. Medical patients can get their medicine faster and of better quality.

The FDA will be able to regulate the quality and control of the substance. The facts will

be known and out there, preventable ways of exposure can be brought upon and taught to

our peers and young ones. There are ways of staying away, but the legalization is critical,

not only do we benefit from the legalization but so does our government. The fact that

it’s just as harmful as alcohol and tobacco speak for itself.

I do not smoke Marajuana or condone it's use, I do however see no reason why it shouldn't not be legallized if tobacco and alchohol have been. I'm working on a college essay on Marajuana legalization and that's how I found this site. Be safe everyone, and God bless!

you dont need to sound smart to smoke weed. some of us had to work from the age of 15 to help keep food on the table. and if weed is a better alternative than alcohol or dip that should be my option to do so and not teased about it. you need to look in your heart that weed isnt a drug that makes people fall apart. it helps us come together and share our love and friendship and lessons that need to be learned. if you think that marijuana should be illegal, shame on you and your misinformed information

I have been smoking marijuana for almost 26 years now, i have two perfectly healthy boys who are now 18 and 19 and although having trouble with the government growing up because I smoked marijuana both my sons are at university becoming lawyers and fighting to legalize marijuana through a system that the government can not ignore. I support legalizeation to the limits.

All i gotta say is i love reefer. i don't think anybody in their right mind believes weed is worse than cigarettes and alcohol. why isn't mary jane legalized yet? me and my friend smoke out all the time and we both make straight A's and are going to college in the fall. we've both never done any of the things the anti-marijuana commercials have portrayed those kids doing, most of which none of my stoner friends have done either. they are tremendously ridiculous. i always get a laugh when they come on TV though. but i live in tennessee and i'd have to estimate that for people above 18, at least 5 to 6 people out of 10 smoke weed. it's very common and i know it's like that in many other parts of the country as well. also marijuana prohibition is insanely expensive and has does virtually nothing to decrease the widespread use of it. considering what weed does for many people, happiness, peacefulness, everything's funny, connection with fellow stoners, connection with god. that's just recreational use. many know the medicinal uses of ganja such as relief from arthritis and glaucoma and much more. but alas no one listens. it's cool though because i'm pretty stoned right now and i'm feeling great. shout out to all stoners. keep the movement alive.

I'm a 26 year old man in TN.I'm am also Epileptic.I would like to say I can type this because I smoked a tater. My fingers generally shake so bad I can't hit the keys.It helps my nerves so I don't get stressed out so bad my eyes roll back in my head in front of my two and five year old children.Which I do not smoke in front of.I stoped drinking moonshine for the simple fact I am smart enough to see that it was fucking up every thing in life. And how many people do you here of dieing every year of tobacco and booze? Compared to herb? They can make billions of dollars to put into schools, law enforcement, health care.Witch I can not get.And a list of hundreds of other options. But I guess they think I might get geeked up like some other dangerous drugs out there and rob or kill somebody over a 20 peice.

yeahh.. so im 16 been smokin for over a year... sorry im not a senoir smoker. haha but anyway. we should deffinatly keep it underground to keep govt sticky hands outta our sticky bud. you think a pack of newports are expensive?!?! itd prolly increase the price 200%. if tree is used the way it should be as a relaxer and if everyone was just chill about it with no skimpy bags and no stabbings, then it would be less of a problem. I do believe that there should be legal busnesses that should never rip people off and could get it legally to consumers. after that they are not liable and its the consumers responsibility to keep themselves outta trouble by just chillin and smokin and jolkin whether than getting into trouble like the stereotypical "teenage hoodlem." idk... there are many good arguments and anything can be acheived in great numbers if you get enough ppl to stand together.

Im SICK of the DAMN United States Government being so Fuking ignorant.....how do they expect their citizens to respect them and be confident in their decisions if they continue to place criminal charges on marijuana smokers when it has been proven that marijuana is far more safer than the legal drug, alcohol. Its not even logical for marijuana to remain illegal why alcohol is. You know what i want to do? I want to do an interview with the president of the United States and all I want is the oppertunity to ask him two questions and for this interview to be brodcasted live all over the country. First, i wanna ask How many deaths have been alcohol related in the United States the last 50 years? The answer is outragous considering the number of alcohol induced deaths from 2005 alone was 21,634 and another 12,928 people died from alcoholic liver disease, thats 34,562 people from the year 2005 alone. That would then lead to my next question, How many deaths have been related to marijuana use? ZERO!!!!!!!!!!! DO YOU REALIZE THAT YOU IGNORANT POLITICIANS??? But you know what pisses me off even more is that government continues to sell tobacco products when it is obvious that it is a cancer causing substance. Anybody who is in the right mind can see the ignorance in this situation. How can it be legal for me, as a citizen, to buy a cancer causing substance from a store but if i want to buy and smoke something that wont kill me i have to purchase it illegally and my biggest risk is getting caught? Does anybody understand what i am saying or am i the only one, cause i know damn well the government doesn't.

nice work. education is the key, combined with resources, determination and the commitment to lobby lobby lobby!!!

I am pushing for New Orleans-post Katrina-to return to its roots and legalize prostitution and pot. Hell, the red light district could use some cleaning up and legalized or "tolerated" coffee shops much like Amsterdam would help the city generate enough tax money to build all the levees they want!

The state and the city are drowning in debt (pun intended).

weed=world peace

Dec 7 2008, 8:56 pm

the govt is billons of dollars in debt and goin billons more every month if pot was legal the govt could make some much money its not funny not to mention the econemy would get a huge boost from it bein legal lets see first of all face it americans are lazy they say that its to easy to grow so govt cant make money off it but let me ask u this would u grow ur own or would u got to the store and buy it theres tax money. if u want to grow the govt can make u have to get a permit theres money for the govt not to mention u get cotton mouth so ull buy more bev. theres tax money munchies more money. if theres weed and the store that means a company is growin it and packing it shippin that means more jobs helps the econm. specaly with all the lost in jobs crime rate would go down. and i sure there are plenty of things that i have mention or thought of. it is stupid not to legalize it the govt is responsible for the econmey and by not thinkin about all of this and deciding to make pot legal means they r not doin there job that we elceted them to do

luis alvarez

Nov 13 2008, 8:55 pm

this is a little of my english project i had to do for college and i would like to thank high times for helping me with it all.

Why should marijuana be legalized? There are endless reasons why marijuan

should be lgealized. One reason marijuana should be legalized is because it is a

natural seed that grows into a plant. It comes from the earth it's not man made

like other drugs. Another reason why marijuana should be legalized is because

marijuana unlike other drugs will not kill you the first time you experience it. Meth,

Coke, Acid, Heroin man made drugs can kill you the first time you try them, and

yes our very own legal alcohol can also. Ever herd of drunk driving, its the

number one death in America for teens. Finally my last reason why marijuana

should be legalized is because it would help our goverment out. It sounds

crazy but the increase in money will increase for the goverment.

Marijuana is a plant that comes from a seed and is grown. It needs water, sun,

and oxygen just like every plant on this whole world, from here in New Jersey

all the way to Australia. It can be home grown or found from the ground. In

High Times Magazine it says " More than 26,000 marijuana plants were

removed by the combined effort of Federal and State agencies over the past

week from public lands over Springville." This was recorded Sat August 2,

2008.

Which brings me to my next reason why marijuana should be legalized, when

you experience marijuana for your first time you will not die from it nor will you

become addicted to it. Crack cocain can stop your heart the first time you

snort, inject, or smoke it. X or exdecy can cause your brain to over heat and

evenutally lead to death. The first time you smoke marijuana you might not

even get high, it could take you a few trys. Which is good with marijuana

because it is not a addictive drug at all, so if you try it again and do not like

it you can simply say no thank you.

My last reason why marijuana should be legalized is because it will help our

goverment in so many ways its not even funny. For one the

goverment will make alot of money off the taxes of marijuana. It will help cut

down on alot of illegal actions that have to deal with marijuana if the

goverment taxes marijuana. In High TImes Magazine " 10 reasons why

marijuana should be legal " it says " Legalized marijuana would reduce the

flow of money from the American economy to international criminal gangs."

America would make more money if taxing marijuana than probally almost

anything in the world because marijuana is a ever lasting plant. When you

grow a marijuana plant it produces seeds. Which you can use thoes seeds to

make more plants and have a endless amount of marijuana.

If the goverment legalizes marijuana it will be the best move they have ever

done. It's the right thing to do, it will bring the crime rate in the U.S down alot

and make the U.S look like a better country. Also it will make over 750,000

people happier.

Had to quit 6 months ago due to an accident, that was the fault of a 75 year old woman broadsiding me while I test drove a customers car.Hadn't smoked anything for 2 days ,but of course I still failed the piss test.Luckily was able to keep my job,but have to take a drug test every 21 days.My boss who I've known for 15 years was stunned. When I told him that weed was not what he thought it was he told me I needed to grow up.god what a jerk .He has that 1920 mentality and thinks pot makes you do crazy shit.Ever since I've been treated like a criminal at work ,but there is no way I can quit this job .So now I drink,I've gained 20 lbs. And I hate it.Don' get me wrong I love beer, but not this much,it was always just a thing for football or a beer with dinner. Now it's my buzz and I can feel it slowly killing me.Marijuana is the least harmful of all drugs be they natural or man made.I never went to work stoned, never but I've had co-workers on loratab, valium and the like some that are full blown drunks who drink from the time they get off work till' they pass out and not a word is said.I was a moderate pot smoker, usally less than a 1/4 a week, sometimes not even that much, and I just think this is one of the biggest crocks of sit this country allows to happen, and if Obama gets in,his drug czar running mate Biden will only make things worse.I have 22 years to retire before I can smoke again.Hopefully before then some politicians will wake up and see the disservice they are imposing on the people that give them their jobs on the first place.

About time they legalized it, the uk are ignoring the official advice of there own labour backed advisery body and are doing a u turn on there own labour partie re-caterisation several years ago from a class b to c drug !!.
They intend to go back to a class b drug next year !!.
what annoys me is it probaly took 20 million pounds or more to put the change in law a few years ago and now they are doing a complete u turn !!.
wouldnt this be much better spent on a harmfull drug crack down (excuse punn)like coke,e's,crack ,tobacco, smack or drink !!.

Well let me first say hello to all you supporters of legalizing marijuana. now for some fun facts not politicians lying to make their pockets fat. ha. did you know this country was founded on marijuana and alcohol. in 1632 the first marijuana seeds were brought to America. then in 1738 the pilgims came over with seeds and hops. why? well because they were simple people with simple needs. back to the point. 1923 this is the date that marijuana was made into a drug that made you crazy. not true. hurst advertising and a man named john d. rockefeller. was the reason marijuana was made illegal now before this time hemp and cannibis were the biggest commodities that america had going for it. infact the first diesel engine was blueprinted around hemp-oil fuel. and i bet it would have cost 2 cent a gallon back then. anyway hurst and rockefeller. bed buddies and all two of the most powerful influences in america at this time, decide that hemp is taking away profit from them. so they make it into a huge lie. get our grandparents and parents to believe it. (babyboomers) then with hemp out of the way big oil companys now had free road to take over and rape this country, and the people have to suffer with paying now almost five dollars a gallon. our country is is being sold off to the highest bidder. the war we need to fight is the one here at home. we the people. this is our time to rise and take back our counrty. secure our borders, tell the U.N and the government to fuck off. bring home our troops, and make our country what our Forfathers. wanted it to be the land of the free and home of the brave. not land of goverment and home of slaves. its time to take the power back people and the only way to do it, stand and be heard. i hope this motivates you to make a difference. god bless you all.

yeah, this is true, but do you really want it legalized? right now it's the cheapest drug, but if they do legalize it, they are gona tax the shit out of it.

alcohol use is worse in EVERY way than marijuana, it has been found to be 400% more associated with psychotic symptoms (precursors to schizophrenia and various other mental illness). People believe alcohol is less harmful mentally than marijuana which is wrong, the government needs to distribute this information because people who have had a bad mental reaction to marijuana and hence avoid it may turn to alcohol, likely leading to increased risk of mental illness in already genetically predisposed individuals... The facts have always been ignored :(

I wouldn't actually recommend smoking the weed thats at Legalbuds.com its the fakest weed ever.. And its a dead giveaway when you open up the bag it smells like Hay. Search for hawaiian gold bud on youtube and you'll somebody buying a bag (from the internet/legalbuds.com) and "reviewing it" .

I think what you people are doing is great. would you mind if i spred this article around? you hsve a lot of valid arguments and the facts are on your side so i think people should Know this. All i want is to be able to go home after a hard days work, sit down on my couch with my pup at my feet, and smoke some bud while drift off to sleep.

Jul 11 2008, 9:25 am

it's only a matter of time before the government gives in to the demands of marijuana users but until then legalbud.com is a good way to go where the weed is cheap, i would prefer this site b/c its at a price that it would be if marijuana was actually legal

Jul 10 2008, 3:07 pm

The only reason weed is illegal is because so many people misunderstand it. The only people that should be able to decide if its legal or not are the people that have smoked it. It is unfair to everyone else that non marijuana smoking politicians get to choose for everyone else if americans can smoke weed. They all need to just relax and smoke some bud, until then, i dont want someone telling me I cant smoke marijuana. And i find it rediculous that alcohal(poison) is legal, yet it kills people eveyday! FUCK it pisses me off!

If you think about it when companys start growing marijuana and their is a Huge supply of it the price that we but marijuana for illegaly now will go down just like if you buy weed online... An ounce of dank now goes for about 120$ where i live but with The gross amount of product it will be sold about 40$ an ounce just like it is on legalbud.com Who the hell cares about a 5 % tax on that? or an extra 2.50 $ (USD) for a freaking ounce... Taxes arent going to matter when it comes to getting the herb for so cheap and an ounce for 40-50 bucks or even cheaper sounds pretty good right now with gas being more expensive than weed

common sense

May 14 2008, 11:34 pm

A major reason why marijuana is illegal is because of the reputation of pot smokers. They are often depicted as uneducated burnouts. Posting comments such as, "Yo smoke weed ery day yo dat shit is dank yo I need to chill out and smoke a fat one legalize it so I can get fucked" on an article attempting to create a case for the legalization of marijuana is not helping to mend this reputation.

I believe there are a lot of well educated marijuana users out there, however they are afraid to speak up for fear of being persecuted. This leaves the burnouts who have nothing to lose to defend our rights.

Please limit your comments on this topic to discussion on the ideas presented here rather than posting stupid jibberish. No one who is reading these comments hoping to make an unbiased decision on this topic is going to take us seriously.

Because if they make it legal they would have to admit all these year they were wrong. Do you really think the USA is going to admit that? I think not USA is provening time and time again they arent never wrong!!! And besides if they did make it legal they would still have thier hands in it, all just a money game for them. Just something else they can add taxs to and still turn a blind eye to what all Marijuana could help on. People are very mollow when smokeing Marijuana. Plus the fact that gas prices would drop if they would put thier heads in the right frame of mind and look how hard it is now for people in the USA.
I know some people who have to choose food over gas. It all comes down to the people who own oil rights and you think they would stop lining thier pockets with the money they are getting now I dout it. PLus it isnt even summer yet, And I am willing to bet that Bush will still fly in his jet and still go on vaction, But what will we do sit home letting the rich man win!!! ALL JUST MONEY :(

Why can't we stress the fact that marijuana being illegal is more dangerous than having it legal. It's JUST like the prohibtion of alcohol, more problems are made when the substance is illegal. And the fact that it ruins lives with all the strict laws. I made a mistake on selling marijuana and was caught with 6 grams. I'm on probation and have quit smoking while on probatoin and i later got charged with contributing to the delinquincy of a minor with marijuana (long story), but I'm innocent. I'm currently going to a university and I have recently earned scholarships. I'm doing very will with my life and always have been in the past with the use of marijuana. While I was using I had straight A's, I was on Student Council, and NHS. And with the new charge on me, the first and only thing the prosecuters can think about is throwing me in jail for over 2 years and ruining my life. I can't tell you how stressfull this is when someone wants to destroy a live over a plant.

I was busted in 1992 and the police stole my bud & sent me to prison. First of all if not for marijuana charges the lawyers would starve to death. Secondly its no about right or wrong... its about money. If you think the police really destroy it...then your a stupid fuck. The police are crooks that move up in the world on the expense of the people they arrest. I'm sick & tired of these assholes lies because they are the organized crime. Its a criminal justice system operated by the real criminals. WAKE UP AMERICA !!!!

THE reason weed isn't legal (in the u.s. at least) is because our government is controlled by private corporations that give the politicians (who are supposed to be representing the people and looking out for their best interests!!!) all/most their money for campaigning. And said corporations don't want cannabis legal because they would stand to lose A LOT of money if it were (i.e. drug companies, alcohol producers, tobacco companies, paper companies, DU PONT, the list goes on and on). Instead of the people being able to use cannabis, something that can help humankind to a great extend the FDA approves foods and drugs that poison our bodies! worst commercial ever. It's shit like that that makes everyone think that weed just makes you do stupid things all the time, something like that is more likely to happen if you are drunk than high.

Anyone that doesn't know/understand why marijuana is not legalized in the US yet, please go to Showtime On Demand and watch American Drug War - jails are big business for the US and if we legalize pot, the 60% of ppl that are in jail for drug related arrests will drop to 25% of drug related crime...& still the system does not work - let's lock up the drug addicts instead of helping them with a program......you can't cure AIDS or cancer by locking a person away nor can u lock up a person with a drug addiction/disease.

solutions are only solutions when people have no choice but to accept them. even though thousands die yearly from prescription, legal,(and by legal i mean alcohol) and illigal drug use, marijuana is still used as a scape-goat to put hard working americans in jail. you cant live off of selling weed. most of the folks i know that do just do so to put food on the table, and keep a roof over their head. we know the truth folks and this april 20th, im dedicating my bash to the american way of life that we all know we should have.-a

The first thing I agree with is that taxation of bud would totally help out the government in that our money would stay here instead of going to "international gangsters". They would make alot of money from it. Bud isn't addictive. I am 19 y/o and started smoking at 13. Thats six straight years of hanging out at friends houses and just blazing up. Recently i quit smoking bud and it wasn't hard at all. That is another reason it should be legal.

As long as we KEEP FIGHTING to legalize bud it will happen and hopefully Hilary Clinton doesn't get office so it will happen sooner.

Legalization brings governmental "management" and taxation of a product that one can grow in the privacy of their own home; decriminalization keeps the government out of our business and out of our pockets. If we legalize bud, then the government will only want its unfair share. I say stick it to the man and keep bud a private issue without taxation or governmental policies.

number 8 is bullshit, but don't tell the feds. im 13, and i toke up two to three times a month. i go to the skatepark, and people are toking up daily, but they also smoke cigs like they were eating food. they just do it straight up. nobody cares, and cigarettes are regulated. if weed was legal for peeps over 18, it would just make the numbers grow at a faster rate. then kids could just smoke joints like they were cigs, and nobody would care. that reason is corrupt.

say that there was a chemical solution that would aide in the translation of neurotransmatic activity. the individual would have to be conscience and apparatus would be necessary. the environment they are in could effect the thought process. not only that but the necessity of keeping the person conscience would also allow this person to create false thoughts or even a montra. in addition to that you would have to do a correlation study on the individual prior to the use of the drug and apparatus. this means that the individual would have to be cooperative at some point. in all honesty it would not be cost efficient or even necessarily accurate. it would cost millions of dollars on the labor used to study the individual and operation of equipment just on one person. Would it make sense to do this in mass numbers?

alright to the future voter:
i know alot about marijuana and its good and bad effects. i also know why people would not want to legalize it,sometimes it can make people lazy and not give a damn but if you are responsible it can be a new begining to your life. i for one am a firm believer that gonja is more than just a "drug" im glad your not like that aala person or whatever, saying that it kills...they really need to do more research than just listening to haters. but i agree these reasons arent that great, so please check out hempfest.org. please it truely gives all the facts. anyway go to a hempfest near where you live. it is an experience you will never ever forget! to everybody: keep smokin the ganja and never ever let the government put you down!!

marijuana should be legalized. It doesnt effect you like the government claims. For real, they should put a tax on it and sell it.. that would make some money for our economy... EXACTLY... KEEP SMOKIN!!!

So I've been reading the posts, I thought I'd add mine for the future voter. So your a future voter, I guess that would mean your a future tax payer also? Look up how much this country spends a year on the Drug War, currently over sixty billion a year. This Free country of ours incarcerates over 2.5 million people with over 50% for non-violent drug charges. In most cases people spend more time in jail for a pot bust than for armed robbery. So tell me who should be in jail, violent offenders or pot smokers? Since you weren,t born when this war was declared you can have little understanding of how it has underminded all of our freedoms. Prohibition does not work! My finale point is that if you look in a PDR and see all the other drugs listed you'll see they all have multiple adverse side effects, cannbis is less harmful than asprin. I if you want to know more read Jack Herrer's book.

Here is an idea, the stats say there are 25 million of us pot tokers in this country. IF we each donated say a measly $5 a month, for just one year, that amounts to $1,500,000,000 or a Billion and a half bucks. More than enough to buy all the votes we would ever need.
So how about let's all play the old time Capitalist Pig game and just buy what we want from Congress. And why not all the other big businesses are doing it, aren't they?
So; how many of you out there would be willing to spend a measly $5 a month for just 1 year to get the job done and get the cops and their threats out of our lives forever?
I'm ready, are you?

jack ass

Nov 7 2007, 2:19 pm

We should not forget that the very prisons that small towns depend on for jobs are being privatized at an alarming rate. We have large companies making huge profits on running these prisons. The more peacefull herb smokers, or addicts of drugs in general The greater the profit of these companies. What incentive is there for any sort of rehab?
We really need comprehensive reform of not only our drug laws but the way our society looks at drug use. (yeah i'm sure there are plenty of misspelled words here as if it really matters, frrrrrruuuunkis)

jack ass here

Nov 7 2007, 2:05 pm

Is there some election on "soft drugs" that only future voters know of? If so I'd love to hear about it.

The unreal amount of money we spend locking up peacefull herb smokers is hard to beleive, however its only a fraction of what is spent on our goverments other never ending war. The dreaded War on Terror. the fact is however that prisons are built in areas whose economies are very poor and dependant on them for jobs.

What we need to do in the election that really is coming up is elect someone clue recognizes that the war on "drugs" & "terror" are both just slogans that fail to acomplish anything.

McDankin

Nov 7 2007, 12:50 pm

Another point congress doesnt address is the funding we tax payers pay to hold the offenders behind bars..In August of 2005, 60,000 people were behind bars on marijuana offense..It costs us 1.2 Billion dollars per year to keep them locked up..I dont know about everybody else but i would rather spend my money somewhere else

future voter

Nov 7 2007, 12:09 am

What? Your circular reasoning makes no sense. It is like saying the "apple is red because it is red." Maybe I added an extra "to", but at least I spelled it correctly. I am looking for concrete reasons to vote yes on legalizing "soft drugs", seriously sounding like an uneducated idiot is not one of them. Let's start out with something easy like legalizing Hemp. It has great benefits i.e, it removes toxins from the body. It also has a lower level of THC than marijuana, the government could start with Hemp and then go from there. Respond with some substance.By the way it is "stuttering" not studdaring.Jack ass

I am looking for concrete reasons to vote yes on legalizing "soft drugs". There was a great article on Hemp, and the benefits that it has i.e, it is a great antioxidant and carries toxins from our bodies. Also it does not have the THC level that marijuana has. Why couldn't we start with legalizing Hemp? And then go from there. Stop sounding so stupid and get serious.

A burnout is someone who just sits and waste their life. I agreee1000% that pot should be leagl beacuse when your mad-smoke a blunt. if you dont like marijuana, dont smoke it. If the government was to take on the task of opening government based smoke shops where we could buy this god given tree , like said before, they would make a couple pretty pennys. Which would lower taxes. Such as Oil, tobacco , and everything else thats getting bumped up . Now that effects even the non-smoking douche bags dont it...sounds like almost a reasonable idea...you might not like marijuana , dont aprove of its use...well some of us do aprove and will continue to smoke this bud.

mind your business

let us smoke our bud

The only reason anyone needs to favor an herb policy that works is just that it works and its logical no matter how you look at it.
As for the English lesson you offered lets look at line three of your rant. "If you want to people to listen to you..." Man you are actually studdaring in something that is written. The bottom line is that you can be a genius or a dumb ass and legalizing herb just makes sense.

future voter

Oct 26 2007, 7:28 pm

Give a future voter a reason to legalize marijuana. I am sitting here reading your posts and I see a lot of misspelled words, and I am hoping this is not a result of smoking marijuana. If you want to people to listen to you and vote for your cause, you need to sound intelligent. Most people judge by the way one speaks and spells. I am thinking about voting to legalize marijuana and other "soft drugs" like those in the Netherlands. But give me a good reason and do it intelligently. The police do not make the law they only enforce them. And yes, it is unfortunate that blacks or overrepresented in the prison system, that stems from the fact that so many of them are already on probation. Basically one foot already in the criminal system door.

i really dont think that these are the top ten reasons but at least its a start. i mean arent we all working toward the same thing here? living in a world where we can chill smoke a bowl, or a blunt or what have you. i mean ive been smoking now for about 6 years and i have met so many people and friends, none of which are criminals, and have had a great time. ive even gotten along with my mom better when we found out that we both smoke! but i have to say if it does become legal, it will become commircalized and taxed, my solution? just grow your own! ohh and BTW alaa the comment you posted was pretty ignorant, you prob just had a bad experence and are piss off at the rest of us for enjoying, and why even post a comment on a message board saying that weed is bad when everyone else on here smokes?

another good reason for the legalization is that it violates the constitution...in some religions they use marijuana for celebrations as part of their culture...and as long as nobody but yourself is effected, you should have the right to practice your religion

The only reason our messed up government won't legalize pot for everyone is because then they can't make all the money from stealing our grow opperations for a fucking plant! And it seems that they would rather house us in the local jail for possesion, but fuck a child molester can move in right next door. What is that shit. If you kill, you die. Or you can have the wonderful choice of being tested on so we can finally end the animal abuse, Lets fuck some people us that have fucked some people up. I mean dosn't it make sence for us to test products and procediers on humans, who it is intended for. My point is the govenment sucks in so many ways. Smoking some reef is safe, relaxing and it always puts me in a happy smilling mood. And totally productive

oregon

Sep 19 2007, 3:42 pm

Here in oregon weed is legal for approved patients. But in reality who should decide if someone can and can't have it, especially if it is legal. I realize like other perscription drugs you have to have a doctors note. But my point is, is that the fines are way to steep on something that is "semi legal" ya know what i mean. All the bitchin in the world would not change the big mans decision. And ya, it is way messed up when you can go to the store and buy alcohol and drink it and possible drive and kill someone or yourself, from something you bought at your local grocery stores. But us people who choose to burn, relax, hang out with some munchies can't get it without being called a criminal cuz we are possessing illegal substances. It's all crap.

Alcohol - Repealed

Sep 5 2007, 7:29 am

Article XVIII, ALCOHOL Ratified in 1919, Repealed in 1933.

Article XXI, Ratified in 1933

WHERE WAS THE (CSA) IN 1933 FOR ALCOHOL AND WHAT SCHEDULE DRUG IS ALCOHOL CONSIDERED?

ALCOHOL WAS RATIFIED AND REPEALED, NOT UNDER THE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE ACT.

Cannabis rescheduling in the United States is the proposed removal of marijuana from schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act, the most tightly restricted category of drugs, by the U.S. Congress or the Attorney General.

THE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE ACT (CSA) WAS ENACTED INTO LAW BY THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES AS TITLE II OF THE COMPREHENSIVE DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION AND CONTROL ACT OF 1970. HOOKED ON FUCKING PHONICS!
WHERE WAS THE (CSA) IN 1933 FOR ALCOHOL, AND WHAT SCHEDULE DRUG IS ALCOHOL CONSIDERED? HOLY SHIT!

THE LEGISLATION CREATED FIVE SCHEDULES , WITH VARYING QUALIFICATIONS FOR A DRUG TO BE INCLUDED IN EACH WHILE DRINKING A BOTTLE OF JACK DANIELS AND JIM BEAM? SO ALCOHOL IS OVER THE COUNTER MEDICINE?

TOBACCO, BEER, WINE, AND SPIRTS (GHOSTS) ARE EXPLICITLY EXEMPT FROM THE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE ACT? WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THAT?
SCHEDULE I DRUGS
(A) THE DRUG OR OTHER SUBSTANCE HAS HIGH POTENTIAL FOR ABUSE? ALCOHOL REHAB?
(B) THE DRUG OR OTHER SUBSTANCE HAS NO CURRENTLY ACCEPTED MEDICAL USE IN TREATMENT IN THE UNITED STATES? ALCOHOL IS FOR MEDICAL USE?
(C) THERE IS A LACK OF ACCEPTED SAFETY FOR USE OF THE DRUG OR OTHER SUBSTANCE UNDER MEDICAL SUPERVISION. DRINK A PINT OF RUM AND CALL ME IN THE MORNING? HOW FUCKING STUPID ARE THESE PEOPLE?

Shit.

Sep 4 2007, 3:25 am

Marijuana should be legal, but restricted like any other drug. To claim that no one has ever died from marijuana is false, people have been lost to car crashes directly stemming from marijuana use, although the numbers pale in comparison to those of people lost in crashes caused by alcohol. Have you ever heard of a pothead dad beating his kids? If the government feels that the public is old enough to decide whether they would like to drink 24/7 and throw their lives away by becoming alcoholics, then we should also have the right to throw our lives away by becoming the stereotypical "stoner", even though you and I both know the majority of marijuana users are upstanding, productive citzens.

Shit.

Sep 4 2007, 3:23 am

So, marijuana is legal if you aren't driving and are at least 21 (18 whenever the drinking age comes down). Police still have marijuana users to chase, including the illegal dealers, because marijuana can only legally be bought through Philip Morris and other tobacco giants, which are allowed to grow marijuana under direct government supervision. The 'burnt out' effect some people experience is caused by restriction of oxygen to the brain during the parasympathetic phase (coming down from being high), but this is combatted by the fact that the cigarette companies only grow the finest weed, and possibly chemically lace the marijuana they sell with bronchodialators. The government taxes the marijuana industry just as heavily as the tobacco industry, although the marijuana industry outstrips the tobacco industry in astonishing fashion. Organized crime goes down, with more law enforcement focused on the serious offenders, but government jobs are not lost, seeing as how marijuana still needs to be regulated. Less people are exposed to the actually harmful drugs like heroin because they are no longer in the same class as marijuana. Excess hemp is used to combat ridiculous gas prices (once Bush is gone). Marijuana reasearch is expanded to prove that, used in the right circumstances, it enhances brain activity, not inhibits it. You and I can both walk down the street to the convenience store and buy a 20 pack of joints(assuming were 21). Only in a perfect world. Alcohol should be illegal, it's a vile substance, it's no wonder you throw up when you drink too much of it, your body hates it, and it also has to be produced. I've smoked plenty of weed and I've never thrown up, just been content or wanted more. GOD put marijuana on the earth for a reason. Stop pissing me off and make marijuana legal.

tburr420

Sep 3 2007, 3:23 pm

my opinion about marijuana being legalized is the government should grow weed just like they are now and tax it just like tobacco products and sell it in stores it's that simple but then us smokers would have to worry about them damn basters raising the prices on us

Injecting THC intravenously would likely mean sudden cardiac arrest, since it isn't a water soluble chemical like opiates and would clog your blood vessels.

Phil E. Drifter

Sep 1 2007, 4:04 pm

It *may* be possible to overdose, but certainly not by smoking; you'd have to inject thc (only one chemical out of many) directly into your veins to get that much that quickly to cause death. This has never happened. In effect it is basically impossible to overdose on cannabis, and totally impossible by smoking it.

MIKE

Aug 30 2007, 10:24 pm

in regards to Over Dose (someone posted that they dont think someone would smoke that much) it is completely impossible to over dose on marijuana. You would have to consuem 1,600 POUNDS in a short period of time to OD that is a real number i got from norml's website

ANARCHISM

Aug 28 2007, 9:10 pm

ANARCHISM is a political philosophy or group of philosophies and attitudes which reject any form of compulsory government and support its elimination, often because of wider rejection of involuntary or permanent authority. Anarchism is "a cluster of doctrines and attitudes centered on the belief that government is both harmful and unnecessary.

1. The state of a society being without authoritarians or a governing body.
2. A chaotic and confusing absence of any form of political authority or government.
3. Anarchism; the political theory that a community is best organized by voluntary cooperation of individuals, rather than by coercive government.
4. confusion in general; disorder.
Anarcho-capitalism see free-market capitalism as the basis for a free society. Anarcho-capitalist Murray Rothbard defined free-market capitalism as "peaceful voluntary exchange," in contrast to "state capitalism," which he defined as a collusive partnership between business and government that uses coercion to subvert the FREE market.

Dr. Hybreeder

Aug 20 2007, 1:40 am

In the past ten years I have seen a dramatic increase for the tolerance of medical bud. It should be available to every responsible adult with the same laws that pertain to and govern alcohol use as far as I am concerned. Here we are 2007 a hell of a long way from the harrison tax stamp act and marijuana laws are still somewhat old fashion. This is a shameful disgrace. Sometimes I wonder if the government knows just how much tax revenue they are throwing away with this war on mj. and how much they are loosing by not legalizing it and taxing it. I will gaurntee they would make enuf to pay for their little middle eastern wargames. Remember everybody organization is key and 1,000,000 voices are louder than 100,000. If you smoke it is your direct responsibility to protest these bullshit life destroying laws and to make yourself heard. If you smoke and do not support it in this way then you are part of the problem.

The justice system is fucked up everyone says that MJ is bad. Question whats so bad. A substance that can relieve pain, help depression, and countless other wonders. Whats the diffrence between the countles legal pills and MJ. Two one MJ is illegal and it onkly takes a little to get the same help. Theres no risk of overdose unlike pills. Shut the fuck up and legalize it. I'll smoke till i die.

YOU ask and wonder why the united states gov. still considers marijuana a schedual one drug with no medical benefits. And if you smoke pot you will turn into a heroin injecting, pedophile murderer. That is the sickest thing I have ever heard. The reason is they woud have to cut their precious little drug war budget in half. Without all those extra billions how would they be able to afford their little satellites in space and all thier fun little toys. I used to be a hardcore republican. Now that I am grown up and educated now all i see is our government leading us all like little sheep. They do nothing to help us. But they take, take, take, money, more money then more and more money. Then start by not allowing us to choose because they dont want to have to cut their budget. Repulsive. Someday we will prevail Fellow smokers. And when we do i'm going to sit on the steps of the federal courthouse with my back to it of course. Then I'm going to lite the fattest stinkiest blunt and sit down while I write a letter to the president of the united states thanking him for all his help in destroying the thousands of lives of people who were out there working for him and being forced to pay him taxes for which he turned around and used that tax money to prosecute and destroy their lifes. Oh and ill be sure to enclose a photo of my future garden and a nice little sample nug.

DESTROYED IN CALI.

Aug 19 2007, 5:10 pm

Prop. 215 what is that? Well it is California's medical marijuana law passed in 1996 by voters, more than 35% were not marijuana smokers!!! This law makes it legal for certain people to smoke, grow, and posses it for their personal medical needs. So why are hard working California citizens who go out of their way to obtain a medical permit still having their lives and the lives of their family members destroyed by law enforcement. Then they are forced to pay thousands in legal fees defending theselves against charges that are so disgusting and repulsive that it literally makes you want to heave in horror. Then the scary part hits. There you are on a beautiful sunday afternoon tending your perfectly legal and well within limit personal crop. Then BANG, BANG, BANG, "SEARCH WARRANT" a 100 pound horizontal sledge comes through your front door hitting your beautiful wife in the face knocking out three teeth and breaking her nose and bone above her right eye. Your two and a half old little boy screams "DADDY" you run from your grow room 9mm in tow. You are confronted by 15 men holding everything ranging from small hand arms all the way up to ar15's with all the trimmings aimed at you your son and your gravely injured wife. You have no criminal record, earn more a year than the first three lowlife ski masked loosers that came through your door with a business you built from the ground up for the past 9 years. Then in one years time you have lost everything you had ever worked for house, cars, mountain cabin, and two 20 acre parcels in palm springs. Then are given a generous all expenses paid vacation for 22 months to one of Californias beautiful beautiful multi men camps. Take in mind this was all for 6 plants that were flowering and 22 others including mothers, clones, and vegers. The medical permit was good for 42 plants. 22+6=28. Nor could the states weak ass lawyers prove that anything was ever sold.

Ravin v. STATE of Alaska

Aug 18 2007, 5:53 am

Opinion by Rabinowitz

THe constitutionality of Alaska's statute prohibiting posession of marijuana is put in issue in this case. Petitioner Ravin was arrested in 1972 and charged with violating AS 17.12.010. Before trial Ravin attacked the constitutionality of privacy under both the federal and Alaska constitutions, and further violated the equal protection provisions of the state and federal constitutions....

Here Ravin raises two basic claims: first, that there is no legitimate state interest in prohibiting possession of marijuana by adults for personal use, in view of the right to privacy; and secondly, that the statutory classification of marijuana as a dangerous drug, while use of alcohol and tobacco is not prohibited, denies him due process and equel protection of law.

We first address petitioner's contentions that his constitutionally protected right to privacy compels the conclusion that the State of Alaska is prohibited from penalizing the private possession and use of marijuana. Ravin's basic theses is that there exists uner the federal and Alaska constututions a fundemental right to privacy, the scope of which is sufficiently broad to encompass and protect the possession of marijuana. In light of these controlling principles, petitioner argues that the evidence submitted below by both sides demonstrates that marijuana is a relatively innocuous substance, at least as compared with other less-restricted substances, and that nothing even approaching a compelling state interest was proven by the State.

Aug 16 2007, 7:51 am

ARTICLE I.

CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION, OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF; OR ABRIDGING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, OR OF THE PRESS; OR THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE, AND TO PETITION THE government FOR A REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES.

ARTICLE X.
THE POWERS NOT DELEGATED TO THE UNITED STATES BY THE CONSTITUTION, NOR PROHIBITED BY IT TO THE STATES, ARE RESERVED TO THE STATES RESPECTIVELY, OR TO THE PEOPLE.

WHO MAKES THE LAWS IN GOVERNMENT

Only the legislature can make laws and they MUST be within the limits set forth in the Constitution. To assume that every bill passed is a law would be giving a power to the legislature that they can not have. To accept an illegal law would be accepting despotism even it it was said to be for the public good.
"Sometimes when the public good is pretended, a private benefit is intended."

Coke, 10 Rep. 142 b.

"The public good is in nothing more essentially interested than the protection of every individual's private rights."

any other drug besides shrooms acutally need to be made and processed, marijuana..does not.

side effects of alcohol: hang over, liver failure, depression, and down right ignorance.

side effects of marijuana: hungry, happy, lazy (sometimes not a good thing), and not one report of lung cancer caused by marijuana tar.

point proven?...I think so.

Perhaps an 11th reason should be that making marijuana illegal is counter to the law of supply and demand: Anyone who belives in the law of supply and demand will recognize the hypocricy of outlawing drugs--the more governments crack down, the more they drive up the prices of the commodity they are attempting to prohibit.

Beast

Aug 8 2007, 10:55 am

the trouble is most stoners smoke it but dont know anything about helping to legalize it. We need to inform pretty much everybody of how to help. For example if we could get a vote for it going and get enough media attention for all the stoners to know about the vote then im sure it would happen.

Hello fools, we must be a cluster of fools! I've read several comments so far, no way will I ever read them all, it's fuckin pointless. some of you say in order to legalize mj we should let the gov tax it or that the gov makes less money than if it was legal or what ever the stipulation. Listen now fools, the gov already makes way to much money from taxes as it stands. "we the people" are now and forever getting royally fucked from taxed wages and the gov giving tax breaks to upper class fucks. Why are some of you saying that mj should be taxed to make mj legal? Don't you fools know that the gov fabricates money out of thin air, and do you think we should let city council and fed fucks dictate to us who's making "good" or "evil" choices? Anyway my little fools, the gov makes their own money, they need no other tax money, they already tax everything whether there's a lawful way or not. We want the pot legal? I'm not so sure, since we are all saying the same shit(give gov more taxes from mj). What the fuck? Get your heads out of your asses. We should smoke and smoke and I don't think we should tax weed ever.Whether or not our naturally green friend is legal or other"not"wise. Why should anyone be sick or worse to make this particular choice and where the fuck does taxes and money come in to play? Mary Jane is probably pissed off at us for being locked up for 300 unending years. She's just a girl and only a plant. Earthly money can't and should not be our motivation for change. God, Mohammed or Buddah(or what ever god) gave us this gift and it's our natural choice since the beginning. Wake up fools so we will be fooled no longer!

If we are able to decriminalize pot usage and offer amnesty to those already imprisoned on marijuana charges, we could free up jail space for those criminals more deserving of incarceration. We don't need to waste taxpayer funds erecting new prisons for people whom the American police state deems deviant and undeserving of a break. What is needed is a reform of our antiquated drug laws and a re-education of law enforcement officials. This country needs to get its priorities straight! The 420 Campaign, if implemented properly, will go a long way in bringing the US out of the cannibis Stone Age and bring us in line with the rest of the world.

there is a shit load of reason why pot should be legal so one they could tax the hell out of it and the government would make money of the shit. Lower the overpoplation in state prisons. For one its just a fucking plant. Hell cigs are way more addictive than pot. I just got out of rehab for alcohol abuse but pot never cause any problems in my life hell i smoke it instead of drinking my life is better now

Anyway we can contact the people we have put in office(ok maybe the court may have had a role to play with ol King George) We need to constantly annoy these people in every legal way in order to acomplish anything. e-mail, phone, in person if possible, snail mail, get f'n creative, I'm sure if the issue is given the spotlight Americans will use commen sence regarding weed. Our plight could easily be given the spotlight if we had a presidential candidate that was for completly legalizing pot. the only one I'm aware of is MIKEGRAVEL & he has really done some things like being key in ending the draft. He is kind of a crazy old man but why not everyone else sucks

I agree with the_man. The police are really cool with us if they catch us smokin. They understand the drug well and know we never carry very much. I don't see why it cannot be legal? From my research on the drug it has no harmful affects on humans. How can you not legalize something that is less harmful than alcohol?

SuperCopper if you really are a cop you'd know that crowds that have been smoking pot are the easiest to handle and probably the most peaceful people. I am a cop and i do not believe i have ever had to lock up someone for smoking pot. I live in B.C. Canada and we have some of the most wicked pot. I smoke faithfully and i do my job to the fullest. You as a "fellow police officer" should know the drug very well...that is..if you do your job?

the united states of america, home of the free. what does that mean? sure we are free in this country unless we want to do whatever we want to like smoke a fucking bowl. how can we call this the home of the free when the government is control our lives. when i think of a free country i see people being able to do whatever they want to unless it harms others. so in our country of america where has our freedoms gone. i blame our parents and there parents who decided to start to control our freedom. in the state i live in you cant smoke in a public place and i am talking about tobaco. even though a man opened his bar on his property that he pays his fucking taxes for he cant allow the use of a legal drug. if you dont like someones rules in there business leave dont change the law. every time we create a new law usually we strip the american public of the freedom this country was founded for. like in the revolution lets throw the fucking tea in the harbor and fight the fight on our own soul to make this fucking country great like it was before our stupid fucking ancestors fucked it up. to anyone who wants to stop this and that from happining come to me i will fucking show you what a pissed of american can do. lets gather the fuck together and kill the fucks who take things from us like our right to fucking do what we want as long as we dont hurt others.

Relaxation is a very important part of having a well balanced brain. without relaxing and just chilling the brain produces less of a chemical called serotonin. Lack of serotonin causes many physical and emotional problems. such as Depression, ADD, aggression, chronic pain, nausea, chronic fatigue, anxiety and much more. My point? Marijuana is a very good tool for losing stress and relaxing which in turn can really help those of us who are by nature easily stressed. the cure is here.

i've heard from a couple people that if all the people from the ages 18 to 21 voted on it, the drinking age could be lowered to 18, i'm not saying that should or shouldn't be the case, my point is that we screw ourselves by not voting, we have to vote or else you cant complain about the conditions we're living under cause you had a chance and didn't do your part to change.
our laws are supposed to elect the will of the people of america, but they dont.
Ralf nader coulda made it happen, he was right on on so many topics, people talk about goinn out adn voting, we have good intention, we're just not willing to put out the effort necessary to succeed.
but it's all good, all these ideas or refer madness are diminishing more and more all the time, our generation is gonna have weed legalized.

The problem is that to make it legal the government would have to admit they fucked up for 80 damn years.Admit they defied the laws of nature. Admit they dictated a flawed policy. Admit they persecuted hundreds of thousands of people for no reason and ruined thier lives. Admit they lied and belittled the basic rights of americans all along.

I am a frequent smoker. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and put on legal medicinal drugs that made me into a non functioning zombie. I took myself off of those drugs and started smoking. It is totally better. I can still function, go to work and have a life with my kids. So I believe that pot should be legalized for the better health of us all.

Jul 5 2007, 12:18 pm

the best way to put the profits from buds is to do it the same way tobacco is done. anyway that tobacco is smoked pot is done the same way, pipes, joints, blunts, even bongs, and hookahs. tobacco has different brands that are priced according to value. pot is the same way. sell some pre-rolled joints, packaged like cigarettes, same for blunts. or get it loosely and roll your own. instead of putting people in jail for growing, give them government jobs to produce it. tax it like tobacco and the price goes down for the consumer(which is great) and all the profits go back to our economy instead of "too fund terrorism" as i saw on one commercial. the best green really does come from the U.S. so why not make it legal and help out our economy instead of worrying about what is going on everywhere else

Heya Name is Lucafer, What everyone has to relize is every drug out there the gov had something to do with it. Reason peps use mith is cause it was used to help peps on herion used to get them to stop using mith- thus making the addicted to herion, some of those here need to know this. Back wen i was a kid everyone would tell me i would die before i was 18 cause of the life i was leading. This was befor i was in high school. When in high school i had a bad temper, i was stealing, till i was exposed to herb. After that i started to see my life and where it was going, if it wasnt for herb id prolly be in jail or in prison. Also it helps with insomnia which no pills actually do help, peps out there with other probs could benifit from it as well. i know its a touchy subject but in the bible- God says- use my plants and all herbs for they all cure illness and disease's. The gov does need get off therer ass and worrie bout U.S. Not iraq- yes we fighting terriorism, so they say, but y we really there not cause terriorism cause of oil. We have so many problems in usa that legalizing herb would help but also cause problems as well, Bud was legal at one time so we may see it legal in U.S.A. shortly. Bud was legal in the 1930s after beer was prohibited, thus making profit for gangsters. There is alot of money in bud,and yes i believe it could help our society by legalizing it- Taking hobos of the streets, could help out with the convicts in jail, cause everyone knows so hard for felons to get jobs thus its y they go back to prison.......

Jun 21 2007, 10:18 am

I believe everyone should stop asking congress to decriminalize cannabis. Decriminalization does not rid america of the black market and its dangers, decriminalization could only lead to more problems. The way the problem needs to be addressed is all of the legalization groups need to pull together and get behind a effort to completely legalize cannabis. There needs to be a legal system of distribution to people over a certin age, it needs to be taxed. People would need to get a permit to grow at their home for private use. If one would like to sell cannabis they would need to apply for a distribution lisense much like alcohol. We need not only fight prohibition but in order to be effective we need to come up with in depth and detailed ideas for the system of law and regulation. Check out this site, www.DEA.org, its not what you would expect.

It is true that the U.S. is currently profiting more from prosecuting stoners instead of taxing bud. One individual that gets arrested and charged for even a small amount of commercial pot gives anywhere from $200 to over $1000 to local governments. This is the hurdle we have to overcome. Hey y'all. Just thought I would let you know that I am in Criminal Justice to become a private investigator, and our term papers are on Marijuane use. I say let's all roll another one, just like the other one! Remember when Big Brother said that every one would be doing Zoloft, so that the world would be a calmer attitude? Well, we all know that didn't work, made people suicideal, right? But, unlike any drug that the government has on the market, marijuana use does not make people kill themselves or others, it does not make us go out and carjack folks, and as for me, it has not lead to a bigger drug (marijuana, according to Big Brother, is a "gateway" drug to harder drugs) Wrong! It helps calm the nerves, it helps people with Cancer eat, it helps people with glaucoma see longer, etc. Just wanted to say how nice iot is to know that there are others out there who will not stop fighting until we have our rights to soke marijuana, even if it must be kept inside my home! Peace Out All!!

THE FIRST T BUCKET MADE BY HENRY FORD WAS CONSTRUSTED BY HEMP COMPOSITE MATERIALS.. A POPULAR MECHANICS ISSUE SHOWS FORD AND HIS NEW CAR PICUTRED IN HIS HEMP FEILDS. IT IS A PLANT, AN HERB, WITH MANY USES FROM MEDICINAL TO GLOBAL. SO WHAT IS THE REAL ISSUE? THE GANJA DOESNT TURN YOU INTO AN INSTANT ASS LIKE ALCOHOL, WHAT WOULD THE POLICE DO IT WE WHERE ALL STONED INSTEAD OF DRUNK? i agree with alot of points brought up in this article, as a fellow toker for 9 years of my 19 years of being, i have come to realize that mary jane doesnt jsut make things taste way better and look alot cooler. i find it helps me take everything thats scrambled into my head and sort it out into coherant babble. I think the world would be in a better spot now if all countrys legalized mary jane, shes never been bad to me thats for sure. Also wouldnt it make more sence to take the "legal Drugs" such as alchohol off the legal market, i mean common, during the days of bootlegging booze, there was only one thing that stopped them for good, and that was to legalize and allow people to drink. i see this as a stand point for everyone. STOP STREET SELLING OPEN THE BODEGAS! the governemt could be making thousands of dollars annually just by legalizing dope. All they are is scared that the steriotypical hippy stoners will amass and take control of the planet, but maybe thats what we need. A free form government that acctually ALLOWS people to have their own freedom... wait isnt that in the bill of rights?

...and that's what scares the shit out of everyone. SlaterAligator just said it. "It changes your veiw on things" So, it's the gov't that says our veiw is not our own to control? What really scares them so much? I dunno!?

One more thing... It pisses "them" off the term "high" or "smoking stuff to get high". Why does it bother them? Are they jealous? Is it too easy? Should we have to inject it?

I was busted 40 years ago for ditch weed and it's still illegal. If we can't do one thing to help the 420 movement at least try to do one thing. Talk to one person that doesn't agree with you.

Just change one person's fear and you've helped.

The thing that gets me the most is it is so safe to use, as it is basically impossible to overdose on and not one death in the history of mankind can be attributed to the use of it. Oh yeah don't forget Genesis, the first page of the bible, and the herb yielding seed being good in the eyes of the Lord! What else do people need to hear?

I think that making Marijuana legal would be a big plus for the economy and society. Just imagine a peace treaty conference with a constant flow of Marijuana..they would be too busy laughing than worrying about WMDs. If the Government controlled the sale of Marijuana it could also be taxed to supplement revenue. You would see signs everywhere, "DIME BAGS OF CHRONIC $9.99!" LOL!

I have had a few invasive back operations and for going on three years now I have been tried on several different type of meds. to ease the pain and depression. Everything from Tramadol to Oxy Contin. Now sure some of the harder meds. like the Oxy Contin, MS Contin, Methadone etc. have helped ease the pain a little but with side effects that pretty much kept me totally out of it. I have been smokeing pot for several years and nothing has helped with the pain and depression as much and now I have an active life and don't just sit or lay around in a daze like I used to. You don't hear about someone wrapping themselves around a tree or killing others for weed. LEAVE US ALONE!

u have to look at the reality of weed. it does not impair you in any serious way like alcohol, ppl hi on weed dont freak out or swerve across roads and kill innocent ppl. it also doesn't "expand the mind" like duescebag hippies will tell you. it will relive stress and help u have a good time. weed is harmless and it should be legalized. if anything all those rich bastards can straight bank off of a regulated marijuana market, and we all know that is the bottom line

Legalizing the use, distribution, and growing of marijuana would take away at least 10% of crime in the US. That's why I think it should be legal. Also because the government could make so much profit from selling weed. Just about EVERYONE would buy it. And last because Marijuana is the best dude, there is no better drug.

rediculous

May 17 2007, 12:04 pm

yeah, best2smoke, the same thing happened to me. I went with a "freind" to get some pot and realized that he really went to get some crack. If I had a bag of dro and was high that day I would have never gone and bought that crap, but I wanted to have some fun and unfortunately I decided to smoke some crack as an alternative (worst decision of my life). If weed were legal I never would have associated with that asshole and I would not have become a drug addict. Weed being illegal forces innocent teenagers who just want to have fun to associate with shady drug users and drug dealers in order to get some weed. So the only thing making weed a gateway drug is its illegallity. Hmmmm, should weed be illegal if its illegallity helps drug dealers meet new clients? No! The government doesn't want to sell you crack and meth, so the best candidate for a weed dealer would be the government, right?

I say right on to both randomized and rediculous. I have used, quit, and now totally hate meth, crack, and other "drugs". I do not like to refer to the MJ as a drug cause it is what it is. A plant-an herb. Benificial for many things. My gateway was alcohol when I was 18-my alcohol buyer knew some people that hooked me up with pot and all would have been fine except since I had to find an in with dealers for that I met a crank dealer by ACCIDENT thinking he had MJ, that is why I ended up trying crank. So true, if I didn't have to find a dealer for pot and bought it legally, I wouldn't have ended up doing meth for a miserable 3 years + (haven't touched it in over 6 years know). But I sure keep burnin the herb that helps me-reduce anxiety, sleep, wake feeling rested, eliminate pain that pills can't, and it also feels good. It should be legalized as an herb or supplement, not under the guise of being a drug. I could go on but for now enough said.

May 16 2007, 11:27 am

I think that some of your reasons for marijuana legalization are flawed. Don't get me wrong, I fully condone the recreational use of marijuana, but I have a few problems with your reasons for legalizing it.

Regarding reason number 8:
The reason teenagers sell marijuana isn't souly based on the cash profit, they sell it because the people who buy it smoke weed. For ever drug dealer, you have to assume there is at LEAST 3 people who buy with the intent to smoke. Thus, if marijuana was lagalized, don't you think that those with the intent to consume would have an easier time getting ahold of marijuana?

The only reason pot is illegal is because they cannot tax it! Legalize it and I will pay my taxes!!!!

rediculous

May 14 2007, 12:05 pm

the only reason why weed is considered a gateway drug is because people try it and realize that it is not harmful at all (after they have been told that it is dangerous). At this point they will asume that all illegal drugs are just as harmless as pot because they have realized that many of the myths about pot are untrue. The truth is that other illegal drugs actually are bad and weed should never be placed in the same category. If pot was legal people would think clearly and would not consider doing real drugs that could actually harm them.

I'd also like to add that pot wouldn't be a gateway drug if people wouldn't have to learn how to: find a dealer, and learn how to buy/sell pot like REAL illegal drugs.

You don't have to smoke it for it to be a "gateway" drug.

May 11 2007, 8:34 pm

I think we need to start approaching politicians in their language. Write your congressmen and tell them that if Marijuana becomes a product that can be bought and sold through legal terms then it can be taxed. Business would be booming and this capitalist nation would prosper again. Think about it. What percent of America smokes weed? It's a good amount.

Dare I say: Weed could save this country from it's debt.

Although I'm pushing this idea of taxing pot, I'm still against making pot into a commercial product. It's quite the conundrum. The good thing about marijuana is that it can be grown anywhere, it's not called weed for nothing. Call it an conspiracy but I think that corporations don't want to prohibition to end because pot is a plant of the people.

I will say that during the 60s and 70s when weed prospered there were a couple similar factors that are apparent today:1) untrustworthy presidents in office;2) War that was unwinable; 3) Depressed youth with a feeling of action; 4)New arts arising .

Now we just need to find another Carter.

If Marijuana was legalized, the government would not have to tax everyone so much to pay for the war in Iraq, and if anyone remembers when in the history books Alcohol itself was put under Prohibition and then because people made alcohol in their basements anyway knowing it was illegal the government receeded the prohibition of alcohol. because they couldn't stop it. People used it anyway just like we smoke marijuana. If the government doesn't want to remember or equate the two then we have to.

I still can't believe that in the year 2007 people are still being persecuted for smoking a plant that in most parts of the world grows in the back yard. I have been ticketed for DWI also and I think Jason said it best I would rather meet someone on the road thats smoked ten or twenty dollars of pot that someone who has drank ten or twenty dollars worth of booz. Anyway everyone knows pot should be legal; but the government thinks it can make more money when pot is illegal. I dont think this is the case. Instead of giving our money to Mexico and South America we keep it in North America. Lets all stand together on this and we may just win. Until that day. Roll up a fat one and pass it around.

Forgot to add a side effect of weed, it actually makes you feel so good for a few hours. I only smoke after work, and have done it that way since many years ago. Never was a lazy ass good for nothing that naysayers like to say of potheads: always hard working, employers love me since I am reliable, honest to a fault, and a tree hugging everything loving hippie at heart. Sure there are more like me out there that may have been so beat down by propaganda that they are afraid to admit it. What the hell is wrong with that kind of person! If anyone is lazy, it is not because they smoke, it is because they are either ill or predisposed to laziness and don't care anyway (nothing wrong with that either, thats cool, it's your life so make your own choices)

best2smoke

Apr 27 2007, 2:34 pm

Taking into consideration a documentary (on a cable channel) every time smoke has been prohibited it was due to prejudice. Prohibition was used to drive out a certain immigrant population during the great depression to preserve jobs for whitey. It was also at one time prohibited only to blacks, as a propagandist had used unspeakable myths about blacks and violence being linked to mary jane use. This mans own agency was granted to do a study on weed use and effects on society, and not only did the study prove him a jackass, it proved that if there were any dangers in using weed, they were very negligible even compared to alcohol use and actually proved no risk to the user or society. I personally would not chose to use because of course I don't want to spend the money or go to jail, but I have had anxiety issues to a debilitating degree, and NO medication has helped, I have tried them all. If I smoke a bowl I feel great for at least three days. It also manages my pain, helped me to sleep so I am more productive during my awake hours. There was not one pill that could do that, and they all had side effects, some dangerous including a possibility of liver damage. Marijuana does not have any such side effects or risks. Also, if it didn't bother me at all to go without for five years + so I could preserve my seniority and pay raises at my job, I don't believe there is any PHYSICAL addiction, just a mental one for some and the intuitive knowledge that it is helping you for others. LEGALIZE!!

I am mother of 2, I was recently diagnosed with Crohns Disease. The only 2 healthy pregnancies I had I smoked pot throughout my pregnancy. The ones that I didn't I delievered babies with severe neuro-tubal defects. At the time of my pregnancies I did not know I was suffering from crohns. I am not your average pot smoker I did not start as young teen I started when my brother-in-law who is now a research pathologist saw me struggling to maintain my weigh and eat. He suggested I try pot it was a relief from the pain and nausea I suffered from since the age of 12. I went for over 20 years with out being diagnosed and the pot smoke was the 1st relief from the symptoms I had. Some of my doc. wonder how with such a severe case of this disease I was able to maintain my weigh I owe it to getting stoned. Not only the pain relief came to me from smoking pot but my 2 very wonderful kids too. I would not have any kids if I had not smoked. Some women who smoke pot while prego. will cause their child to be small or slow neither of which mine are. My son plays several musical insturments at the age of 12 and my daughter is in a gifted program and is a 3rd grader reading at a High School level. Hmmm I think it is illegal because our government can't figure out how it will or can control the profit from it as a legal substance. It is frustrating to be considered a criminal just because I want relief from symptoms of a very painful and difficult to control disease. Peace to all my green loving friends out there. Good day from the lovely Evergreen State.

There's just too many reasons to list, but I would like to put it to them(government) like this, as far as safty of people, I would rather meet someone on the road that has smoked 10 or 20 dollars worth of marijuana than someone that has drank 10 or 20 dollars worth of alcohol. Iv been buring for six years, gone through my ups and downs, but still do it, just did moments ago. Smoking buds gos deeper than some people think, especialy those outside the circle and they cant relate to it unless they make the decision to burn one up. It gos deeper in the the fact of what it does for the individual, it allows you to fully un wind and assess your situation and alows you to be at rest with your self and your enviroment. But im afraid that unless more peope truely take a deeper look and begin to understand what and why we burn, we will be un able to achive the ultimate goal.

First I would like to say that I support legalization 100% and say that I have never seen anyone smoke a spliff and start a bar fight...but it's probably not great for you either.

I think that inhaling or ingesting any substance that alters your state of mind or body ain't good for you (not that you shouldn't ever do anything that wasn't good for you, that'd be boring) but know your s***, be careful and be responsible and if someone doesn't want toke, leave 'em be. It's your choice to smoke and if you want people to respect that you need to respect people if they choose not to too.

Anyways, be smart, be respectful and please, don't smoke and drive.

Peace and tolerance for all!

Each year alcohol killed 100,000 Americans, Tobbacco killed another 300,000+, prescription drugs killed another 100,000 Americans, Pot since it's first recorded use in B.C. China has killed nobody.

Why we continue to arrest 750,000 Americans for Pot offenses every year is beyond me. We spend $30K a year to keep non-violent offenders in the company of murderers, rapists, and theives, and expect them to be "corrected".

I'm sick of the few whiny little bitches on this sight that have the nerve to talk shit on potheads. I smoked every day during high school and graduated top of my class...not to blow my own horn, but what about you assholes against MJ? Have you ever even tried weed? Hard to take someone seriously when they don't even know what the fuck they're talking about--so before you talk shit, smoke a fucking joint, read the top 10 reasons, and relax while they sink in...then maybe people will take you seriously. I'm sick of people classifying weed as a drug with meth and herione floating around out there. If you don't want to smoke pot, that's fine, but don't talk shit on something you know nothing about.

I'm torn between legalizing and keeping it on the down low--of course I would love it if my paranoia wasn't justified, but I'm a busy girl and I can hardly afford that shit as it is. Gov't will tax the hell out of it...but then again, I'd just grow my own damn plants! So yeah, LEGALIZE BITCH, as they say. Fuckin A I'm excited for manana, going to Santa Cruz to blaze an entire fucking meadow! Hope I see some of you there (except the assholes mentioned above, you know who you are!) Holla fellas! It is simple - big tobacco, the alcohol industry and all of the pharmaceutical companies have lobbied to keep marijuana illegal - they do not want anyone honing in on their addictive turf.

Yes, I said it, it is addictive, but way the hell less harmful than any of the above. I believe that my addiction is because I know that if I have a chance, a toke or two is the quickest way for me to either focus on my task, OR forget about my problems.

It is really (for me anyway) like a cup of coffee, and I have managed to live the last 20 years of my adult life being a very productive, well liked, tax paying American. Abolutely NO negative impacts on my life from my marijuana use, other than feeling guilty for breaking the law.

Marijuana, Ganja, Herb, Weed, Etc.... is NOT just a minority pursuit and our governement should realize that. I'm a 38 year-old white guy, kind of upper-middle class (trying). I have seen so many f'd people in the midwest on crack or meth that you would think that our elected officials would finally have the balls to stand up and demand that all of the the resources in the "Drug-War" go to stopping this blight on society, and draw the distinction between Hard/Soft drugs. Look at some before and after pics of Meth users on the net - they are out there, and tell the tale.

Basically, pot illegality is a way to keep the prison/police/drug testing industries busy and profitable, keep minorities in-check for their choice in recreation, and make sure that the alcohol, tobacco and of course the pharmaceutical industry reap their profits.

Oh yeah, I'm a conservative Rebublican - voted for GW twice. (regret it a little though)

A couple of my friends and I are organizing a rally at City Park in Kingston on 420 for the legalization of marijuana. We're inviting anyone that will come and toke right up. If people all over would do the same on 420 then I bet we might just have a statement. And really how difficult is it to talk a pothead into smoking bongs in the sun with a couple hundred other potheads, and for a cause no less.

But till then all pot smokers got to stick it to the fuckin goverment and tell them hey man its our body let us do what we want you fuckin pencil pushers!

Apr 14 2007, 6:06 am

im sure this has been said before, but i believe that the only reason pot is illegal is because it is virtually impossible for the government to tax it. think about it.... alcohol is leagal because it can be controlled. it takes a lot of effort to make alcohol and in oder to turn a decent profit in illegal alcohol, you'd have to have a large opperation, one which would be easily noticed and pacified by the government.
therefore, alcohol production is easily controlled. The same principle can be applied to tobacco. ya cant just grow a tobacco plant anywhere. but, weed is far too difficult to control, and therefore is too hard to tax, which means it wont be legalized until our government can make a profit.

They want me to stop smoking kush and take one of the following Rx drugs: wellbutrin, citalopram, prosac, and a few others. I took the citalopram for a week and ended up passing out on the floor in Walmart (by myself- not funny). No one helped me up and my cash and cell phone was all on the floor. I went back to the Dr. and gave him a good dose of Marine. Then I went home and took one to the head, and now once a day (by myself). I've been fine for a couple months now. Please legalize marijuana- I'm tired of being afraid to have something on me that I need. And I would also like to have a place to go buy gauranteed safe and good quality (no chemicals or roach spray they use to conceal the smell from customs). Im not trying to sell to kids or any crazy stuff (the kids nowadays have more than me probably anyway). Look, just help young vet cope with his stress, not ad to it. I went to war for you, now go to war for me! Or I'm leaving. Amsterdam is a passport check away and Canada is right up the street. I believe pot is safe as a recreational drug, and I believe it should be legalized for all the reasons listed in the Top 10. However, I do have some concerns for those who don't know how to use pot. What is the #1 drug problem in the USA? Alcohol, right?! More lives are ruined by alcohol than any other drug, by far, and it's legal. Some people just don't know how to handle it. The same goes for pot. I've seen just as many people get totally out of control on pot as I have on alcohol. And they're mainly young kids who just love to get high, and they're out of control anyway. That's why I think if it is legalized, the minimum age should be 21. Young kids are going to get it anyway, but at least it may be easier to enforce if THE LAW only goes after the under 21 group. Some people are going to misuse pot as much as some misuse alcohol. That's my only concern with legalization. We don't need another misused drug anywhere near the misuse of #1 ALCOHOL.

the reason we cant get marijuana legal is because the wealth and power wont allow it to happen. think about it... who has the REAL control over what is happening in society??? big business those with money and power. WE the people are AFRAID to speak up (to a certain degree) because of fear of retaliation from employers mostly (which most all drug test),NO WORK-NO SMOKE. alot of people who smoke at your workplace smoke but cant talk about it. you dont know who to trust. who will rat you out.who will look at you different now that they know.dont want any "stoners" or "potheads" or "druggies" working here. the stereotype of "users". we cant let the fear keep us from being vocal in the workplace. employers need to learn about it. we have to stop going to work stoned and prove to the assholes who dont understand that POTHEADS ARE PRODUCTIVE AND RESPONSIBLE indivduals that have a large part in society.
you cant go to work under the influence of any other substance. if people didnt fear losing so much... like EVERYTHING - house, job, car, kids, time off life(cause you got locked up).

What bothers me when i think "prohibition," is simply that the lawmakers that hold the weights over our herbal freedom, also have a straws up their noses. in all my years of smoking i have never ever wrecked my car, beat or abandoned my kids, robbed anyone, murdered anyone(although i have thought about the latter prior to smoking JOKING!) i think that the legislators should really take a closer look at the facts and see that even though alsohol IS legal the effects of it are soooooo much worse than the benefits of marijuana use. most of the pot smokers i have known in my life were hard working, family loving people who choose pot to relax instead of something that makes one lose their composure! i am not against alcohol. i just think that the buzz you get from pot leaves a person in control alot better than alcohol. and i think that it should be legalized as soon as possible

The legalization of marijuana could potentially lower the use of other drugs among teenagers. By selling weed in a legal setting it would cut down on teenagers exposure to other drugs which abound in illegal settings. But alas, the government is too afraid that if we all smoked blunts then our eyes would be opened and we'd no longer follow along like blinded obedient sheep.

Anyone in here who say's Marijuana shouldnt be legalized due to increased cost's for their product need to rethink this concept. The gov. has made more money from innocent victims . Legal fees from incareceration & property forfeiture costs are unbelievable. We all need to start at the state level, writing our state elected governors. If they do not support this issue then let's get someone in office who does.

man they should legalize marijuana becuz it would make shit hella better, not so many people would smoke or drink. Kids wouldnt have pot because they can't get tha shit man, unless they go threw some one older, but even if they do they can get searched down by cops etc. taxing marijuana would make it alot better for the goverment they would ring in hella money and people who sold pot would get jobs so more people would be working. which would lead to less drug dealing and crimes with weed and the cops would get more big busts were the REAL drugs are plus tobacco needs to fall anyways, who knows with weed legal it might just throw tobacco off the market. shit, problem is how many people are willing to help?

DONT LET MARC EMERY GET EXTRADITED TO USA! NO ONE SHOULD FACE LIFE IN PRISON OR EVEN DEATH PENALTY (GOD FORBID) FOR CONSPIRACY OF SELLING SEEDS OVER BORDER. In Canada it is still illigal to buy or sell seeds but this isn't enforced. I can go downtown Toronto right now and pick up hundreds of seeds. I can even buy dried seeds at my corner store to put on my salad. Anyone who is Canadian and Pro-Pot should help out Marc Emery by not supporting the extradition, spreading the word, or even contacting your members of parliment. Thank you for reading.

I don't think most teenagers would try to use other drugs to break the law. If marijuana is made legal, it would still most likely be illegal for teenagers. Same situation as alcohol basically. Besides, teenage rebellion doesn't always go outside the limits of the law and decency.

I am for legalizing it and all but I do have one question. If Marijuana is legalized and all, Won't there be somthing replacing it to do as an illegal drug? Because many people like the feeling that they are doing somthing that the law does not want them to. And my only worry is that teens will trade in pot for meth or some other kind of drug that actually does actually harm your body.

You should check your own English, Josh. That sentence is not written correctly.

A lot of people that post here are not fully concerned with their English. It isn't like this is a graded paper. There are also younger people that post on this site, though some of them have better English than some of the older ones.

Yes, I know I make mistakes in my writing too. I am not perfect, but I'm also not getting onto everybody in here to go to an English class.

Josh

Mar 21 2007, 10:46 am

After reading several posts I suggest you spend some of the money you are currently using on Marijuana and enroll at your local college english class.

I think the fucking government should relize how profatable selling pot would be for them. It would eliminate drug dealing and the profit the gangs in america make off of dealing. Which would than eliminate a lot of killings also america would just be a much more mellow peaceful place to live in where we could smoke our bowls and blunts in peace and not all peranoid 420 high till i die peace

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to refute the 'debater's claims.' I will not lower myself to using his distasteful name. Though it in all probability is an accurate description.

There are many jobs that do not invade people's privacy with urinalysis, and many people can still hold a job if their workplace does. Most of us want it legalized so we can be rid of the dealers, and all illegal aspects of this. Not all marijuana users are potheads, and most are not idiots. At least as far as my experience has shown. Drinking and driving is incredibly dangerous and illegal. How would that be better than marijuana? I'm not saying smoking marijuana and driving is a good idea, but it is much safer than drinking and driving. Most of those that drive after smoking marijuana compensate for the negative affects to their driving skills. Drunk driving is a bad decision from the start, and they do not generally compensate for their level of inebriation.

To Jerry Anastatio, I wouldn't be concerned too much with that person. Even replying to him is probably a waste of time. I've seen those types in here a lot.

His points are flawed anyway. Most of the people that talk like that are the ones that come in here to bad mouth legalization and anyone who uses marijuana.

I just wish I knew why these people who have such big problems with it visit this site and post to begin with. They act like their words will in some way sway us from our beliefs. And none of them seem to have the faintest knowledge of the truth of marijuana.

Their heads are filled with lies, and they seem to suffer from willfull blindness. If they are even reading the articles, they aren't actually doing it to learn something new. They rarely even try to refute any of the articles in their posts.
