Let the Candidates Know Where You Stand on Marijuana’s Legalization

Want marijuana legalized in the United States? Now is a good time to let the various candidates for president know about it! It’s important the candidates for both the Democratic and Republican nomination for president hear from the public on the legalization issue. They may already have made up their minds about marijuana, but the purpose of the 420 Campaign is to change their minds, to make them reconsider their previous positions in light of public support for legalization.

There are several ways individual supporters of legalization can influence the race for the presidency. One of the easiest things is to simply contact the various candidates and ask them where they stand on marijuana’s legalization. Another approach is to educate them about the issue. Even better, ask them where they stand, follow up with some information that challenges their position, and then make it clear where you stand and what it would take for them to earn your support.

It’s easy to learn how to become an effective advocate for legalization. Just familiarize yourself with our 420 Campaign. Learn the basic skills of activism. Study the Top Ten Reasons Marijuana Should be Legalized. Now you’re ready to make your voice heard. However, if you want to be even more prepared, do a little more background research. Find out about the national survey data on the number of marijuana users in the United States. Learn a little about national opinion surveys on public attitudes about marijuana’s legalization. Read about the size and value of the domestic marijuana crop. Review the 420 Campaign’s advice for contacting congressional representatives about marijuana’s legalization.

Next, figure out what you want to say to each of the candidates for president. Here are three suggestions you can choose from:

1) Ask them where they stand on marijuana’s legalization and why.
2) Provide them with one or two reasons you believe marijuana should be legalized and ask them if they will support taking a new look at the nation’s marijuana laws.
3) Ask them what they believe marijuana laws are supposed to accomplish, whether or not they believe the laws are successful, and what policies they would have regarding marijuana if elected.

Finally, use the information below to learn about the candidates. More importantly, use the contact information below to get in touch with each candidate for the Democratic and Republican nominations for president and let them know one way or another that marijuana legalization is an important issue for you and many other members of the general public. Be serious. If you treat the issue seriously, so will they. Remember, most of these candidates do not believe that taking pro-legalization positions on marijuana will help them get elected. You need to convince them otherwise, and the best way to do that is to be serious, well informed, and sincere. Show them your best side, be thoughtful and intelligent and you have a good chance of making a good impression on the candidate and their campaign staff. This is what it takes to be influential. If the campaigns hear from more Americans about legalization, they will start to realize that this is a more important issue than they previously believed.

As the campaigns heat up many public interest organizations, include drug policy groups, will survey the campaigns and publicize where they stand on reform issues. Indeed, this process has already started. But you can influence the campaigns by letting them know where you stand on the issues. Please contact the presidential candidates and let them know you support marijuana’s legalization.

this is a response to all of you that have recieved something back from there candidate and then don't believe it. Why are you even sending them something if your just going to bitch about there answer? Nobody on this site should want the next [resident to continue the current president's drug policy, and if you have actually read anything about the candidates 90% of them do not support the way the Bush Administration went with it.... and no democratic candidate will continue that policy whether they like it or not because that's the way politics work... pay more attention to your candidates before you write a bunch of crap about them...

why does it matter who we write to or try to contact they wont take the time out of there busy day to reply anyway. I've tried to contact some of the candidates running for president and the only thing I get in return is letters saying they don't have time to deal with the little people who actually bring them into office. Even if you make the best points in the world why it should be legal but if the people who vote on it don't take the time to hear us out then it will never become legal. Everyone knows that legalizing it would improve the U.S tons we have a rapid declining employment rate that would increase if marijuana were legal. It would also raise the amount of tourist that come to America also creating more jobs. Instead of spending money on arresting people why not make more money off of taxing marijuana and selling it in specific stores to people for private use. Everyone wins the government makes money and pot heads get to smoke without being treated like a criminal for smoking an herb thats been on earth for thousands of years!

Ron Paul by far is the only true american canadate running for president, just look at his history. He is the only one running for president that has never taken a dime for his personal gain, that says a lot about him to me. Its also a no brainer that reffer should be legal. Ron Paul the Republican is great for drug war reform, as is Dennis Kucinich the Democrat. The only problem with Paul is that he wants the government out of our lives. Kucinich wants the governemnt to squeeze the corporations so he can get taxes to pay for things like inexpensive quality national health insurance for everyone.

many states have laws that condone medical marijuana, but bush Administration is using federal drug enforcement agents to raid these facilities and arrest seriously ill people. Focusing scarce law enforcement resources on these patients who pose no threat while many violent and highly dangerous drug traffickers are at large makes no sense. Senator Obama will not continue the Bush policy when he is president.

My main concern with marijuana being illegal is a person who believes in one conspiracy theory tends to believe in others; a person who does not believe in one conspiracy theory not to believe another. This may be caused by differences in the information upon which parties rely in formulating their conclusions. A person who believes in a conspiracy theory may do so because of AWARENESS OF INFORMATION,such as that certain political leader was a member of an enigmatic secret society. Is the government a secret society? The government has been of suspicion and speculation from non-members since the time of the Declaration of Independance.

Ok First of marijuana can not every be controlled by the government in for of taxes. Any idiot with some seeds can grow high quality pot, so do you really think the black market will disappear? Fuck no! The only way is by decriminalaztion. As for hightimes 10 reasons pot should be legal only five are worthy reasons. The wirters need to stop hitting the bong and think about it.

We are asking the Candidates, is this going to be a Political campaign, Military campaign, Advertising campaign, Role-playing camping and with a "campaign setting" of course. Strategic campaign, CIVIL SOCIETY CAMPAIGN, Strategy game, Online Campaign???

I personally like the hack and slash or dungeon crawl campaign.

THis year I would like to see more role-playing games where the candidates assume the roles of fictional characters and collaboratively create or follow stories. Candidates determine the actions of their characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, Candidates can improvise freely; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the game. No cheating or fighting, throwing things at one another. killing anyone... now behave yourselves candidates.

I dont get why it should not be somewhat legal. Up here in New york, the police have been going all out in busting pot rings and anyone growing it. Is that smart? They chase people out of the pot trade, and into something worse like controlled substances and other businesses. Fact is that yeah the police have put a dent in the pot market, but it is now easier to get cocain than a little bit of pot.

Agent Orange and "Super Orange" were the nicknames given to a herbicide and defoliant used by the United States Armed Forces in its Herbicidal Warfare program during the Vietnam War.

Agent Orange was used from 1961 to 1971 and was by far the most used of the so-called "Rainbow Herbicides" utilized during the program. Maybe I am a pest.
Studies of population highly exposed to dioxin, though not necessarily Agent Orange, indicate increased risk of various types of cancer and defects; the effect of long-term low-level exposure has not been established.

Ron Paul is the only candidate that has proposed to end the drug war and dismantle the DEA. He respects and understands the constitution and the original intent of the founders. The Fed holds almost a billion in coinage not as a liability but as an asset. The Treasury Department is actually in charge of creating coins and US Notes. The Fed then buys coinage from the Treasury by increasing the liability assigned to the Treasury's account.* The Fed holds 790 billion in US debt which means part ot the national debt is held privately by the Federal Reserve.*The Fed has about 21 billion in assets from overnight Repurches agreements. Reperchases agreements are the primary asset of choice for the Fed dealing in the "Open Market". Repo assets are bought by creating Depository institution' liabilities and directed to the bank the primary "Dealer" uses when they sell into the "Open Market".*The 976 Billion in Federal Reserve Note liabilities represents the total value of all dollar bills in existence
*The 16 billion in deposit liabilities of Depository institutions' shows that dollar bills are not the only source of government money. Banks can swap 'Deposit Liabilities' of the Fed for 'Federal Reserve Notes' back and forth as needed to match demand from customers, and the Fed can have the 'Bureau of Engraving and Printing' create the paper bills as needed to match demand from banks for paper money. The amount of money printed has no relation to the growth of the monetary base (M0).*THe 6 billion in Treasury liabilities shows that the treasury Department doesn't use a private banker but rather uses the Fed directly (the lone exception to this rule is treasury Tax and Loan because government worries that pulling too much money out of the private banking system during tax time could be disruptive).*Total capital represents the profit the Fed has earned which comes mostly from the assets they purchase with the deposti and note liabilities they create. Excess capital is then turned over to the Treasury Department and Congress to be included into the Federal Budget as "Miscellanious Revenue"
