Obama Vows to Stop the Raids
Thu, Feb 05, 2009 12:39 pm
Repeating a promise made during the presidential campaign, the Obama administration yesterday vowed to stop the federal government from interfering in states with medical marijuana laws as soon as they can appoint a new head of the DEA.
“The president believes that federal resources should not be used to circumvent state laws, and as he continues to appoint senior leadership to fill out the ranks of the federal government, he expects them to review their policies with that in mind," White House spokesman Nick Shapiro told reporters.
Obama promised a hands-off policy on medical marijuana during his campaign, but since he took office the DEA, led by Bush appointed Acting Administrator Michele Leonhart, has nonetheless raided at least three medical marijuana dispensaries in California, each time seizing money and medicine, but making no arrests.
The administration’s renewed commitment to respecting states with medical marijuana laws follows thousands of phone calls to the White House, plus a flood of comments on change.gov, all calling for the President to make good on his campaign promise. Americans for Safe Access, the nation’s largest medical cannabis advocacy organization, greeted the statement with strong approval.
"Americans for Safe Access acknowledges President Obama's continued pledge to end federal interference with state medical marijuana laws," commented Caren Woodson, Director of Government Affairs. “We look forward to working with the President and his Administration to enact long-term policies that support safe and legal access to cannabis for therapeutic use and research."
Meanwhile, Sarah Pullen, a DEA spokeswoman refused to offer any explanation for the raids. “I can’t get into details as to the probable cause behind the warrants,” she said. “Except for the fact that they’re dealing with marijuana, which is illegal under federal law.”
Perhaps the DEA dead enders were trying to throw down a challenge to the incoming President, lest he get any ideas about actually reforming our disastrous war on drugs. Or perhaps it was just an easy payday.
An employee of Beach Center Collective in Playa del Rey told the Los Angeles Times that DEA officers confiscated so much property that the dispensary would not be able to reopen.
“They took everything,” said the 32-year-old employee, who asked not to be named. “You name it, they took it – right down to the television. The computer, patient files, medicine, cash in the register – that’s it, we’re done. It’s just too bad. [Our patients] have epilepsy, cancer, MS, diabetes – two of our patients have one leg. They’re gonna have to travel a lot farther and go to places that aren’t as safe for them.”

This is for the Americans that realize we are responsible citizens, capable of controlling our own destiny, just as our founding fathers realized it.
We are a peaceful and freedom-loving people, protected by the Constitution; yet these freedoms appear to be stripped away little by little in the name of laws and restrictions. We protest by voting and writing our Congressman, yet no matter which party is in office we are ignored.
We tried so we go about living in our own little worlds complaining to those around us about what is wrong. We are too busy to get further involved, or say nothing can be done, or that it is too late to change it. Something can be done but not if we continue to neglect our duty by non-involvement.
The people formed the Constitution and they divided power and put checks and balances on its use and potential abuse. They allotted the federal government only those powers specifically delegated and further expained this by the 9th and 10th Amendments.
They tried to put protections so that there would never be a federal controlled nation, and we would always have states controlling themselves with a limited federal government.
Chief Justice John Marshall, a strong federalist, set the patterns for supremacy of federal government when he interpreted the "elastic clause" (Article I, Section 8, Clause 18) of implied powers. This is one abuse we must correct. The Constitution states the limits and reconfirms it in the Bill of Rights (Article IX and X). Realizing there would be abuses a protection against it was added (Article VI, clause 2).
The Constitution is still in effect and our rights are still guaranteed, but they are being ignored by public officials because the Constition is just a piece of paper. WE THE PEOPLE give it life and make it a living principle. Without our knowing everything it says and demanding that it be upheld it will continually be abused.
The federal government has unconstitutionally taken state land, imposed progressive income tax, controlled farm production, regulated schools, controlled our children, sent U.S. soldiers to fight without declaring war, and set up an independant, uncontrolled and unaudited Federal Reserve System which operates the money power and the entire economy. These are just a few abuses the Constitution has suffered while our government has taken care of us.
Many errors have been made and the government has become bigger than it has a Constitutional right to be. These errors can be corrected when we educate ourselves on the Constitution, and can discuss the principles of it with elected officials. (Many of them don't know their rights and duties because they have never read the Constitution.)
The Constitution limits the Federal Government and the State and retains all other rights for the people. It also declares any laws made by them, in which the power was not specified to them by the Constitution, not valid. (Article VI, second clause.) The power to void these illegal laws was given to the people, twelve of them setting in judgment, -THE JURY_ (Article III, Sect. 2, Clause 3; Bill of Rights - Article VI & VII.)

Your insight, knowledge of the constition law, and recent religous support for sensible laws is refreshing. We have not heard a word from the Obama economic brain trust about usury. Usury is the gigantic anchor holding back the consumer economy.
It is little wonder that an economic downturn would lead debtors to walk away from debt that grows faster than they can pay down.
Default interest rates run into the hundreds of percent, and creditors are intransigent in working with the debtor. The creditor can get a handout from the government and then hound the debtor until they have recovered the debt, effectively double-dipping.
We can guess why there is no acknowledgment of the economic damage caused by usury; government is in the usury game.
We don’t have a “credit crisis,” we have a debt saturation problem. As debt is reduced, the consumer economy will recover.
The damage is done to the creditworthiness of people caught in the financial meltdown caused by others who had an infinite ethics deficit.
As could have been predicted of the entitled class, they have taken hundreds of billions from the taxpayers and given themselves tens of billions in bonuses.
The corporate message to taxpayers is, “Thanks, suckers.”

Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, Forcible rape, Robbery, and Aggravated assault.
Out of a total Population of 301,621,157, Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter was 16,929, Forcible rape was 90,427, Robbery was 445,125, and Aggravated assault was 855,856.
Ugly stats if you ask me.

I suspect that the usa doesn't fare any better than Mexico in the homocide rate. The media just blows it out of proportion to suit their agenda of war against us. Oh I know any murder is bad, but for the media to point they're fingers at Mexico and make our people in the states think it is safer here is silly. The people don't realize that their wars against some drugs is what is causing the violence in the first place. Borrowing a word from another poster - ARGH!

Have you even viewed the tha answers RE: marijuana, given at Change.gov?
Why are you making excuses for the Obama administration? If weed isnt such a big issue. Then Obama and company should have no problem getting the small stuff -like legalization- passed through congress-eh?
Well hell, they could attach cannabis legalization to the stimilus bill, pass legalization and no one would notice.
Given that it is such a small issue.

I grow for my own personal use. I will never sell my crop to anyone. Also I would never share my usage with any minor (persons under the age of 25), consenting or not. Furthermore, I would not expose anyone to the environment of my own personal usage (personal residence or approved area). I will not operate any heavy equipment, motor vehicle, or dangerous equipment while under the influence. I will not go to my place of employment under the influence.
WHY TAKE THIS PLEDGE?
In doing any of these things you would either be evading national tax laws, unfairly influencing others to use cannabis, violating the personal rights of others who do not wish to be exposed to cannabis usage, endangering the personal safety of others and yourself, or violating the trust your employer has placed in you to dilegently perform the duties that you are paid to perform.
IF YOU THINK THESE ARE UNREASONABLE EXPECTATIONS.........
If you think these are unreasonable expectations you need to seriously re-evaluate your views. Taxes allow our government to support itself and further the domestic quality of life through a stable economy. Influencing others to use is WRONG. Whether or not you wish to indulge in cannabis should be a personally made choice. Exposing others who don't wish to be around cannabis usage is unfair to them, put yourself in their shoes and imagine how you would feel. The personal safety of every individual is important, if you willfully endanger others you are violating their rights, and should be subject to punishment. And finally, if you go to work stoned and as a result make a mistake (big or small) you are hurting the success of your employer and costing them money. Again, put yourself in their shoes.
MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE, TAKE THE PLEDGE.

The truth is there are too many people (more so than the stoner population) that are blinded by lies and have a false view on all that is drug related. They trust in these prescription drugs that only damage them more in the long run then they do anything else.
Our government needs to solve the problems that affect us all before they can move into drug reforms that affect only a few. (even if that few is probably nearly half or even more than the american population....
Considering it is a lie already that people have a say in things, the only thing we can do is hope things unfold in a positive way. Because if things get any worse then marijuana will be the least of worries.
America is becoming the perfect terrorist. We are like a ticking suicide bomber except instead of a bus station, it is on a worldwide level of destruction.

But, there's a lot of sick people out there who need medicinal marijuana NOW. They need relief they can only get from marijuana.
It's also been said over and over now that legalizing marijuana would essentially help to create a multi-billion dollar industry that would instantly stimulate the economy by creating millions of new jobs overnight. It's really something that should become a part of Obama's plan to fix the economy and he should act as soon as possible to make that happen.

I dunno. All I know is is that pot is a cure all for me. Case in point. My friends and some of my family had the flu a few weeks ago. Sick at they're stomachs, and headaches. They came over not quite over it. Without giving alot of details, I got sick last week. I toked some weed, and within a few minutes I felt alot better, and 2 hours later, I found myself laughing at youtube videos. The next day, I felt great. My mom gave it to me again 2 days ago, and now I'm out of weed!!! Life sucks!
And the mean poster below can "shut up." This war has got to stop. To know that there is a cure all, just pisses me to no end! I cAN'T STAND THIS.

the DEA taking medical marijuana away is fucking stupid, if their state allows it, then whats the problem? these people obviously need it or else they wouldnt be allowed to smoke it.
I think that weed should just be legal, theres no use in keeping it illegal anymore, its not like fucking crack. they could put an age limit on it like tobacco and tax it and shit, people would still grow it, but fuck it.

fuck the DEA taking away meds for people who need it like cancer patients? thats obsurd! they have been perscribing harmeful, addicting pills to people for hunderds of years!
but marijuana is not addictive! and the least harmful drug out there, we all know tabacco has been killing people in this country for yearsss!
name one person that has ever died from marijuana, dont worry ill wait...
with obama in the house now is the time to fight harder than ever to legalize!!!!!!
