Obama Vows to Stop the Raids

Thu, Feb 05, 2009 12:39 pm

-

Repeating a promise made during the presidential campaign, the Obama administration yesterday vowed to stop the federal government from interfering in states with medical marijuana laws as soon as they can appoint a new head of the DEA.

“The president believes that federal resources should not be used to circumvent state laws, and as he continues to appoint senior leadership to fill out the ranks of the federal government, he expects them to review their policies with that in mind," White House spokesman Nick Shapiro told reporters.

Obama promised a hands-off policy on medical marijuana during his campaign, but since he took office the DEA, led by Bush appointed Acting Administrator Michele Leonhart, has nonetheless raided at least three medical marijuana dispensaries in California, each time seizing money and medicine, but making no arrests.

The administration’s renewed commitment to respecting states with medical marijuana laws follows thousands of phone calls to the White House, plus a flood of comments on change.gov, all calling for the President to make good on his campaign promise. Americans for Safe Access, the nation’s largest medical cannabis advocacy organization, greeted the statement with strong approval.

"Americans for Safe Access acknowledges President Obama's continued pledge to end federal interference with state medical marijuana laws," commented Caren Woodson, Director of Government Affairs. “We look forward to working with the President and his Administration to enact long-term policies that support safe and legal access to cannabis for therapeutic use and research."

Meanwhile, Sarah Pullen, a DEA spokeswoman refused to offer any explanation for the raids. “I can’t get into details as to the probable cause behind the warrants,” she said. “Except for the fact that they’re dealing with marijuana, which is illegal under federal law.”

Perhaps the DEA dead enders were trying to throw down a challenge to the incoming President, lest he get any ideas about actually reforming our disastrous war on drugs. Or perhaps it was just an easy payday.

An employee of Beach Center Collective in Playa del Rey told the Los Angeles Times that DEA officers confiscated so much property that the dispensary would not be able to reopen.

“They took everything,” said the 32-year-old employee, who asked not to be named. “You name it, they took it – right down to the television. The computer, patient files, medicine, cash in the register – that’s it, we’re done. It’s just too bad. [Our patients] have epilepsy, cancer, MS, diabetes – two of our patients have one leg. They’re gonna have to travel a lot farther and go to places that aren’t as safe for them.”

How could a plant created by God be made illegal by humans? "You mean they can tell God that it's not legal?

meth and coke are not remotely close to marijuana..how many people do you see hit a joint and start acting like a fucking retard? if any drug should be legal marijuana should be it...i think the pros out # the cons...maybe if everyone could smoke it without having to hide like crackheads the world would be a lil less stressful..the gov. is always talking about how the economy is in such bad shape i bet if it was legal the economy would be in great shape in as lil a year.....

I must say I don't fit into your group. However I support your cause. And I am aware of that this a strange thing due to the fact that I am a member of a devinat sub culture myself, a sub cultre that just can't understand. I have no desire to smoke pot nor even drink alcohol beverages to me its like fucking up a great high. That was my way of complaning about the meth lab remark. I myself love the thrill you get when snorting lines of coke or meth. I am not just some junky off the street. See times are hard now for everyone and I just want to enjoy my energy boost. I work hard and to make ends I often work double shifts at the casino for extra change. I pride my self in being a great dice dealer and belive I do a great service in entertaining people. We all have are reasons for doing the things we do. All I know is that your cause is right and I do belive it could be the fix (no pun) that are econmy needs right now. I am not one to talk to much about myself so I will stop(twicker rambling). It is simple make drugs leagal and by doing so taxes can be placed on them like ciggerets. This in turn will most likely get Califorina out of debt. Also by letting prisoners out of jail with drug convitions will save tax payers alot of money. In turn this will stimululate farmers who grow pot helping them feed there familys. Also making meth and coke leagal will stop the deadly trade activitys that are used and save the govenment money from fighting the war on drugs. Drug companys that are loseing money in stocks because of all the talk of a government health plan will boost profits from making meth and coke in safer and more controled ways. This would also lower the number of fires and explotions that take place killing people daily from twickers trying to make there own shit. It might just be that I see money and freedom as more of the American dream than controling people. After all America is about choices just because other people don't agree with them should not give them the right to controll us. And with that said the president is not only trying to control your use of pot he is trying to control every thing he can about you. You see when the health plan becomes law it will seem like a good thing untill the govenment starts telling you how to eat,how mcuh sleep to get(no pun), how often you should work out, and if your old enuff to die because after all they are the ones paying for your health care right? Trust me on this you guys are right to fight for your freedom. Leagalize pot its good business duh.

Rev Steve - EXACTLY! Very astute for a religous man, but if the Fed doesn't respect our constitution, and no State is willing to take it to the Supreme Court - these rights aren't worth the hemp paper it's written on.

Your insight, knowledge of the constition law, and recent religous support for sensible laws is refreshing. Not faith restoring, but definite penance for 2,000 years of global take-over/terrorism(at least for the 10% of us Americans who thank Mother Nature or in your case,God, for creating the plant).

treehugger

Apr 30 2009, 8:41 pm

Umm - Yes, please chill.
Are you a female?(just curious).
Calling off the DEA is a MAJOR step, if we actually see it come to fruition(pun intended). Mass migration to the pro-pot states will further pursuade your state laws - or they'll go bankrupt!

treehugger

Apr 30 2009, 8:37 pm

Fuck This - IT IS like crack, or at least that's the chemical classification(crack/LSD). Maybe their samples were laced?

treehugger

Apr 30 2009, 8:35 pm

Stoners R Us - Thank mother nature that someone can read between the lines. First you call back the dogs(DEA), give them a bone(send them to one of the military bases in one of the 137 foreign countries)then you change the chemical classification(currently up there with crack and LSD mabe their samples were laced!!!!!!!). Then the supreme court(hopeful for the Jesuit!)can overturn the laws.

treehugger

Apr 30 2009, 8:30 pm

No Way - I'm in the same boat, and can't even afford the gas to get there. But I'm going none-the-less. Once the states start realizing the mass migration to the pro-pot states, they'll come around or go bankrupt!

Head West!

Heres what i dont get, is the fact that thousands of people are dying because of cigarettes and many are dying from drinking alcohol on a daily basis... Tobacco is a plant too, in which they have made a billion dollar industry.. When have you ever heard someone dying from smoking to many J's or even ODing, cant happen, I've tried, cant do it... California is making BILLIONS by taxing a "WEED".. Crazy how much money they have made doing this.. David Evans is an IDIOT and he needs to take that stick out of his a**. When is David Evans going to get it that you CANT STOP the drugs from coming in, EVER, 24% aint a thing wait for this year i bet it lowers since there is a recession and people need to make that money...lol... The government can spend as much money as they want, it will never end there is always someone out there that will find a way. How long are they going to fight this????? They didnt stop this in the 60's, 70's, 80's, or ever...they had alcohol prohibition and look at it now, it has cost the lives of millions because of this DRUG that they brought back and they started taxing this as well but look at the outcome it has done so far....we keep lossing more lives to drunk driving, getting hit by a drunk driver than we do by smoking a joint or two a day...

carl

Mar 6 2009, 3:19 am

Feb 24 2009, 4:04 pm

The money that would come out of the pot industry would likely help boost the economy drastically in only a few years if it were to be taxed. Everyone is complaining that were in debt were in debt. well why dont you legalize our sweet sweet mary jane and i guarentee shell pay you back triple of what you expect mr president obama. i would willingly pay for legalized joints even if they were more expensive than cigarettes, as a matter of fact if weed was legal i would stop smoking those nasty little sticks!! Its the D.E.A. thats the problem. Thier the ones that are bringing the major bad drugs in to the USA threw thier columbian or what ever HARD DRUG( cocain, meth, heroin, etc,.)cartell they have deals with! The D.E.A. wont to keep the focus on MMJ so its not on them while they bring in thier major money maker drug's! thats the only reason they are keeping the focus on MMJ growers and user's! Its like proabition all over again but against MMJ insted of booze! THE D.E.A. ARE THE REAL CROOKS!

David

Feb 19 2009, 8:22 pm

but thats the dumb part!! it can be taxed! the argument of it is that people can get ahold of seeds well you can also get ahold of tobacco seeds to! but no one dose!! so no one cares! the same things will happen to pot once it is legal.you think after 10 years of it being legal everyone is gonna want their own farm?? no way when you can just go get a pack of joints at a CVS lol if we all come together and live our lives as if it were legal and donated to NORML it would be legal in no time

i beleive for a fact that obama can get this done. if his plan for reforment works and stays that way in our system for a long time, all we need to do is get medical weed dispensers in every state and all of the marijuana policing will disapear. and we will virtually legalize weed without the UNs interfeirence since we are technically only decriminalizing it. i think things are looking up for our side of this war. -LEGALIZE

@$$$$$$$$$, right on.I don't know if it's intentional, but toxic drugs can't possibly make a person better. Most drugs have negative side effects. That is why it's important to use a drug with the least amount of negative side effects. I would not even classify marijuana as a drug, but, regardless, it has the least amount of negative side effects. How does the doctor make money if you get well? How does the pharmacy make money if you grow your medicine at home?

Example: Look at how big pharma is agressivly marketing new drugs for treating Fibromyalgia. The most effective treatment for most fibromyalgia sufferers is good ol'pot.

I think it's time to seek legal advice, the DEA is out of control. It might be illegal, it might get you high, but it doesn't kill people. 40 years of bullshit, 40 years of putting common people in jail, it's stupied. Doesn't the government know how much this drug is helping people with alot of ailments, they need an education in herbal medicine. PLEASE STOP THE MADDNESS, IT'S GONE ON LONG ENOUGH. Who ever is in charge of DEA should be fired, for acting with good reason, and for abstruction of juctice. These DEA agents are like wild dogs, just point them in the right direction and they attack it. We need better management in the DEA and a new direction. It's sad that after 40 years of this crap they have still not learn't a thing, WHY DON'T WE JUST PUT EVERYONE IN JAIL?
AND CALL IT A DAY. DEA is nothing more than an excuse for poor government management. Legalize the weed, NOW!
It's far better to legalize it than waste more money fight it, PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES NEED THEIR WEED and they need it NOW! Bring 40 years of maddness to an end.

Pharmaceutical corporations don't want marijuana to be legalized. You can bet that the majority of lobbying for this so-called war on drugs, and propaganda is funded largely in part by way of these drug companies. Why? Patients can grow their own medicine for a low start up cost and not have to pay out the nose for various medications. These corporations are here to make money not cure the sick, just mask the symptoms and take you money, home, and dignity.

Legalize It!!

Feb 9 2009, 9:07 pm

I believe that if they would just legalize and drop the fight, marijuana could become a natural remedy sold in drug stores. No prescription required, because making it a drug would just be fueling the messed up American Health Care System. For the nation to change, we need to accept that marijuana can generate a hell of a profit. The documentary of these operations that I saw, Marijuana Inc. on the Discovery Channel, said that marijuana is a huge part of the Californian economy, comparable to the wealth of the whole Apple Corporation. Why not open it to free enterprise to put a real shot in the economy? Every state can have a factory that would create jobs, and create an Item to export. I mean if all else fails, we got rope, and material for high fashion clothing.

OFF TOPIC

We have not heard a word from the Obama economic brain trust about usury. Usury is the gigantic anchor holding back the consumer economy.

It is little wonder that an economic downturn would lead debtors to walk away from debt that grows faster than they can pay down.

Default interest rates run into the hundreds of percent, and creditors are intransigent in working with the debtor. The creditor can get a handout from the government and then hound the debtor until they have recovered the debt, effectively double-dipping.

We can guess why there is no acknowledgment of the economic damage caused by usury; government is in the usury game.

We don’t have a “credit crisis,” we have a debt saturation problem. As debt is reduced, the consumer economy will recover.

The damage is done to the creditworthiness of people caught in the financial meltdown caused by others who had an infinite ethics deficit.

As could have been predicted of the entitled class, they have taken hundreds of billions from the taxpayers and given themselves tens of billions in bonuses.

The corporate message to taxpayers is, “Thanks, suckers.”

OK Im nothing special just a young college student with a full time job and a family. Heres the way I look at it though. WEED CAN NOT BE LEGALIZED!!!!! In the 70's I believe it was we pushed for cannibus to be on the UN list of INTERNATIONAL RESTRICTED DRUGS. The most we can do is decriminalize marijuana. Unless you want to go against the UN and if i read the posts right most of you are Dems and you threw a fit when we went to Iraq w/o UN support. You can't have it both ways. just my opinion. However it is a nice idea to legalize it I just wouldn't hold my breathe ne time soon.

I found it.
Number of offenses reported in 2007:
Violent crime total = 1,408,337 which includes
Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, Forcible rape, Robbery, and Aggravated assault.

Out of a total Population of 301,621,157, Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter was 16,929, Forcible rape was 90,427, Robbery was 445,125, and Aggravated assault was 855,856.
Ugly stats if you ask me.

Thanks gstlab3, I'll look into it.
I suspect that the usa doesn't fare any better than Mexico in the homocide rate. The media just blows it out of proportion to suit their agenda of war against us. Oh I know any murder is bad, but for the media to point they're fingers at Mexico and make our people in the states think it is safer here is silly. The people don't realize that their wars against some drugs is what is causing the violence in the first place. Borrowing a word from another poster - ARGH!

Re: HU210,

You make a VERY good point.

It isn't easy

Feb 8 2009, 12:32 pm

it isn't a minor issue, but it's a complicated issue, and one that isn't easily dealt with, all progress takes time no matter how important, and there are more immediate issues being dealt with that can compromise the financial stability of the country as a whole if not handled properly, so shifting priorities now before getting a grip on things as a whole isn't the best move. Besides that, his appointees to positions regarding marijuana such as the head of the DEA haven't been filled yet, but when they are, we will see if they impliment obama's "hands off" policy, which they likely will. The specifics of that are to be determined later.

Have you even viewed the tha answers RE: marijuana, given at Change.gov?

Why are you making excuses for the Obama administration? If weed isnt such a big issue. Then Obama and company should have no problem getting the small stuff -like legalization- passed through congress-eh?

Well hell, they could attach cannabis legalization to the stimilus bill, pass legalization and no one would notice.

Given that it is such a small issue.

REFORM NOW

Feb 7 2009, 11:59 pm

Straight from the white house. Take a lookee:
Restore Scientific Integrity to the White House: Restore the basic principle that government decisions should be based on the best-available, scientifically-valid evidence and not on ideological predispositions.
If your brain isn't too dead to decipher that, then you can see the point I'm trying to make. Let's get rid of the false dispositions on marijuana that have haunted the United States for too long. YES WE CANnabis!!!

Feb 7 2009, 10:01 pm

CANNABIS USERS AND GROWERS UNITE IN THE CAUSE OF LEGALIZATION! TAKE THE FIRST STEP BY MAKING THIS PLEDGE.
I grow for my own personal use. I will never sell my crop to anyone. Also I would never share my usage with any minor (persons under the age of 25), consenting or not. Furthermore, I would not expose anyone to the environment of my own personal usage (personal residence or approved area). I will not operate any heavy equipment, motor vehicle, or dangerous equipment while under the influence. I will not go to my place of employment under the influence.
WHY TAKE THIS PLEDGE?
In doing any of these things you would either be evading national tax laws, unfairly influencing others to use cannabis, violating the personal rights of others who do not wish to be exposed to cannabis usage, endangering the personal safety of others and yourself, or violating the trust your employer has placed in you to dilegently perform the duties that you are paid to perform.
IF YOU THINK THESE ARE UNREASONABLE EXPECTATIONS.........
If you think these are unreasonable expectations you need to seriously re-evaluate your views. Taxes allow our government to support itself and further the domestic quality of life through a stable economy. Influencing others to use is WRONG. Whether or not you wish to indulge in cannabis should be a personally made choice. Exposing others who don't wish to be around cannabis usage is unfair to them, put yourself in their shoes and imagine how you would feel. The personal safety of every individual is important, if you willfully endanger others you are violating their rights, and should be subject to punishment. And finally, if you go to work stoned and as a result make a mistake (big or small) you are hurting the success of your employer and costing them money. Again, put yourself in their shoes.

MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE, TAKE THE PLEDGE.

Oh and when I say the people need to see on tv people like Barry Cooper, I don't mean in a 10 second news blurb either, but in a full hour interview say like on 60 minutes and Bill Moyers, or something like that. Instead of people watching on the news their favorite stars in hollywood. And images of the Gaza Strip. This is the USA, and why so much interest in our foreighn neighbors when the war is here at home as our neighbors and loved ones and us are being raided with gestapo like abandon. The mainstream news talks of all the people that are killed in conflict around the globe, which is trajic, but the news fails to add up all the homocides and total them up in all 50 states. The total I'm sure is stagering. So the attention in mainstream news Should be on their so-called home land.
By the way, I have tried googleing the total annual homocide rates for all the states, and could find this information. The only thing I could find is state by state annualy, or per hundred thousand. WE NEED to know the exact figures. Does anyone know? I think this is important information...

umm

Feb 7 2009, 3:56 pm

I believe that the mainstream public has been duped. Its important then for them to learn the truth. They need to see on they're tv's the injustices. They need to watch Barry Cooper "a former DEA agent" tell what is really going on. They need to cry, as they watch families being torn apart. They need to KNOW that prohibition not only isn't a good idea, but it is destroying the USA and indeed the world with violence, and prisons for the otherwise inocent folks. For politicians, the ole' putting the third rail issue; "Cannabis prohibition" on the back burner is not only a cowardly mistake, it is criminal. Prohibition goes agaist our very own constitution. Prohibition is wrong in a free society. It is responsible for So much greif, and suffering. I believe that if obama takes the lead and brings this issue to the front lines, that serious debate would insue. As soon then as people see what is really going on, fears like the posters below would evaporate. Good does conquer all in the end. And we have that good on our side. Thank God for that. Or whatever you call your creator. By the way, God is love. It sais so in John in the Bible. To prohibit that which is safer than water, "Cannabis", and which also brings out the genuine love in all of our hearts is a sin in it's self. Not to mention the gang activity. It is important for people to see just what happens to someone when they go to prison. If they come out alive, they are bitter and hardened. Its just got to stop. The sooner the better for all.
Youtube Barry Cooper on Alex Jones. After your youtube has searched, sort by date to get the latest information on the changes being made in the government, and the truth about prohibition... Also, youtube Ron Paul, and Gerald Celente, then ask yourself would it be a good time NOW to legalize. The country would save billions annualy, not to mention the suffering saved.

Stoner - Legalize!

Feb 7 2009, 12:45 pm

The fact that Obama is working in Hemp reforms in times of extreme economic crisis shows that he has the herb in mind. Right now is not a good time for him to make it a priority. It is trouble enough already just trying to persuade corrupt republicans to start spending more money on it's own countrymen then on bombs for other countries. To start off his presidency being a marijuana extremist, legalising it and all would only make him look like a fool to the rest of the government and will only lose him respect.
The truth is there are too many people (more so than the stoner population) that are blinded by lies and have a false view on all that is drug related. They trust in these prescription drugs that only damage them more in the long run then they do anything else.
Our government needs to solve the problems that affect us all before they can move into drug reforms that affect only a few. (even if that few is probably nearly half or even more than the american population....
Considering it is a lie already that people have a say in things, the only thing we can do is hope things unfold in a positive way. Because if things get any worse then marijuana will be the least of worries.
America is becoming the perfect terrorist. We are like a ticking suicide bomber except instead of a bus station, it is on a worldwide level of destruction.

Rahm Emmanuel as Chief of Staff sends a powerful message to us. Just look at the norml article on him: http://blog.norml.org/tag/rahm-emanuel/

People we have to take legalization in an historical context. I'll pick on Lincohn to make a point. He was pregidist (sp?). If he could have saved the union by exporting African - Americans to Africa and the Caribbean he would have, but it was to expensive, so he didn't. In one of his last speeches he stated that "educated" or civil war vets African - Americans would get the vote. J.W.Boothe was at this speech and this pushed him over the edge. Basically Fred Douglass said, 10 years after Lincohn died, he wasn't the best friend the Black Man ever had but he was the best game in town at the time. "In his heart of hearts, he knew that slavery was wrong". A lepoard can't change his spots overnight. Change will take time. There are a lot of passionate folks out there against legal reefer. The only other option is social revolution. Who out there wants to revisit 1776-1783? Give Barrack a chance.

He needs to weed out the puppets and pick an honest trustworthy guy from the candiates, or get a new list of ppl and pick from them, it's not easy when you are in charge of the whole country's buisness. How about this idea... Legalize it, and DON'T TAX IT! The DEA/Federal Government/Most U.S. Governments have been a violent enemy of marijuana producers and consumers for decades. I don't see why we should be so forgiving toward the history of their irrational drug war. As far as I'm concerned, they have no right to tax the production of marijuana, nor its consumption, regardless of the positive effect this would have (on paper) on the GDP. They've been enemies and now want to make friends. This is great news, and I hope Obama uses his political power to legalize the product this year which would put an end to the raids and arrests. However there is no justification for conceding the government's right to tax this product (as they have no such right). The U.S.A. needs another Boston Tea Party to finally shrug these fuckers off our backs.

President Barrack Obama, you sir have an obligation to the State of California and its law abiding citizens to return all of the equipment seized by the DEA during the January raids on California dispensaries throughout the state.

If that property cannot be returned in its entirety, a full cash reimbursement must be made immediately following a written and public apology from the DEA for its repulsive and rogue like actions. They must be reminded that they are here to serve the people for if not they shall be disbanded and persecuted.

Although you did not order the raids yourself Mr. President, you chose to sit idle while the DEA taunted the State of California and its citizens on your watch. For this you have failed the people of this country.

We the people have spoken our terms and demand justice be served upon these rogue like DEA agents and the money hungry politicians who aided in the persecution of the American People.

Such great a justice must be served that it may ring deaf the ears of self serving politicians nationwide and strike great fear into their evil souls and serve as a reminder of whom they are in service.

Brandon, I absolutely agree and so do most Americans it seems.

But, there's a lot of sick people out there who need medicinal marijuana NOW. They need relief they can only get from marijuana.

It's also been said over and over now that legalizing marijuana would essentially help to create a multi-billion dollar industry that would instantly stimulate the economy by creating millions of new jobs overnight. It's really something that should become a part of Obama's plan to fix the economy and he should act as soon as possible to make that happen.

You obviously don't know how to read if you think he hasn't done shit. He's been in office only a few weeks and he has a more difficult job then you ever will. Are you too blind to see that this is the FIRST step to marijuana legalization? It's not gonna just happen with Obama snapping his fingers. He's at least TRYING, which is better than what any other president has tried to do. And if he's done this much so soon, I'm looking forward to what all else he can do. Just quit dissing him when you don't even know him or what he might be capable of. Just go smoke another bowl and chill the fuck out. You can start your complaining if he does something stupid. But so far he's doing great. He has a lot on his plate right now. I just wish it were legal! It's soooo much safer than alcohol and tobacco both. It would result in less people jailed for dumbass shit and les violence in general. And it would save the economy. There are so many jobs out there that have to do with hemp products as well as research on effects, uses, etc on pot. The list goes on and on. But it IS the answer. I just can't wait til everyone begins to realize it.

i agree with the guy under me. the goverment is spendind money to stop drugs which is pointless because people are still doing all types of drugs. medicinal marijuana should be legal all over the U.S. they should put a tax on it and an age limit. everyone around the world tokes it. you know how much money will come into the country with so many people buying marijuana

they should legalize crack too

Feb 5 2009, 5:54 pm

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

umm

Feb 5 2009, 5:49 pm

re below, and if their state doesn't allow it, whats the problem too?

fuckthisshit

Feb 5 2009, 5:30 pm

the entire "war on drugs" is ridiculous, all we're doing is spending mass amounts of money for nothing. people are still going to do drugs no matter what, just let them do it, there would be less problems in the world.
the DEA taking medical marijuana away is fucking stupid, if their state allows it, then whats the problem? these people obviously need it or else they wouldnt be allowed to smoke it.
I think that weed should just be legal, theres no use in keeping it illegal anymore, its not like fucking crack. they could put an age limit on it like tobacco and tax it and shit, people would still grow it, but fuck it.

lou

Hey Fred, I'm busy in the corner beatin' off. I'm too depressed to say anything stupid. It's a sad day in Mudville today.

Feb 5 2009, 4:05 pm

As the pilot of the usa's ship, obamaess should pull us out of the nose dive we are in, but no, he would rather let the plane crash with his hands off appoach. This is NOT leadership. This is lazyness. To allow such abuse to continue is not leadership. He doesn't know what its like in the prison system. He doesn't know what prison rape is like. He doesn't know what its like to be body searched, and worrying about being stabbed. He would rather let the abuse continue. He will go down as another wannabe president who failed his people. For that, I welcome the worst depression God can muster.

Feb 5 2009, 4:02 pm

legalize it de-crimanalize it!
fuck the DEA taking away meds for people who need it like cancer patients? thats obsurd! they have been perscribing harmeful, addicting pills to people for hunderds of years!

but marijuana is not addictive! and the least harmful drug out there, we all know tabacco has been killing people in this country for yearsss!

name one person that has ever died from marijuana, dont worry ill wait...

with obama in the house now is the time to fight harder than ever to legalize!!!!!!

Feb 5 2009, 3:57 pm

Where's that goof Mass Cop? I guess he couldn't think of anything stupid enough to say so he's probally in the corner beating on something that won't fight back (unlike reefer smokers). Now for the rest of "you people" that gave Obama a raft of shit when this crap came down that it was politricks as usual. Remember now, he said he would stop the raids, he didn't say he would legalize. He's been in office for 3 weeks, there is a bunch of shit going down in the world / US. So far so good. This is a boat load more than any other past President has done for reefer smokers. Rome wasn't built in a day.

If California would declare SOVEREIGNTY like the other 10 states have done, they wouldn't have this problem. The "feds" would have no authority in the state if state soveriegnty was declaired. More states need to declair sovereignty to show they are sick of the "feds" shating all over the states constitution. Maybe if enough states would declair SOVEREIGNTY the federal government may wake up and realize that American's are sick of the federal nazi's controling everything we do 24 hours a day. If we don't stand up now they are going to start telling us how to wipe our asses and start jailing us for being a "wadder" and not a "folder".

Feb 5 2009, 3:24 pm

it would be so simple to just let the people who need this medical marajuana be I mean come on we r in such debt in the usa that if obama would pull his head out of his ass he would be name the president that corrected the debt we have. like legalize it and make people who want to grow and sell to health food stores have a licenses and have a yearly tax on that licenses and if you dont pay then you dont get the freedom to grow simple as that think of the money the government would make each year but oh no lets make it worse and keep busting people that truly need it i have ADD/ADHD and sever migrains i cant afford to go out and buy what i need let alone want to get put in jail for buying it so come on obama get off ur ass and uphold your words and do what you say !!!!!!!

I think hightimes needs to do more on barry cooper who was one of the best dea agents out there who saw the error in his ways and switched sides. Youtube him kopbusters etc. He is a hero for his efforts.

Thanks Hightimes for reviewing medical marijuana news concerning the Obama Administration. Can you guys keep up even more with tht kinda news. Im pretty interested in knowing all that i can about Obama concerning marijuana. But he can try n stop the DEA raids but the fuck!n DEA thinks their so damn important, so they'll still try n fight off Obamas plans and hopefully honest truth to stop the raids but oh well. I hate the DEA!!!
ONE LOVE, peace.

"hands off aproach" tells me obama isn't for all the people. What an ass. Some leader he, no she is.

umm

Feb 5 2009, 2:52 pm

I'm tired of seeing presidents say that "they smoked marijuana" in "states that were illegal", yet they go unpunished. Why is it that obama thinks he has the right to go unpunished for his marijuana use? And yet he thinks others now SHOULD be punished for the same. Whats good for the goose...Stop this senseless WAR on us you bafoons!

Feb 5 2009, 2:42 pm

Great news, but what of the rest of us in states that choose to abuse its citizens and make criminals out of them? Are we to be in prison next?

Feb 5 2009, 2:13 pm

Legalize not legal lies. Much love high times from one impatient patient. Wrap your brain round that.

Anon

Feb 5 2009, 2:09 pm

I agree that taking certain electronics is flat out robbery. I just wanted to point out, though, that they took the computer probably because it has electronic patient files and information about the organization. The money probably because it was earned on an "illegal federal basis". But the TV? Come on. And isn't it illegal to steal patient files?

Dj MuTeL8r

Feb 5 2009, 2:03 pm

when the fuck is he gonna legalize it?

taz

Feb 5 2009, 2:03 pm

its totally obvious that the war on drugs (cannabis) was never on the drug itself but rather a convenient way of giving the control of this therapeut to the ones in the government who wish to profit from it. EXCUSE ME, but after you confiscate cannabis how exactly do you plan to get rid of it? Bury it? BURN it? Or re-sell it? hmmm somebody's lining their pockets at the expense of the sick and weak, nothing new, nothing new.

Feb 5 2009, 1:45 pm

i think its complete bullshit, the dea can just rob MEDICAL marijuana from people, especailly from people who have cancer its kinda outrageous acutally, i think thats the least a cancer sufferer should be to do is smoke some weed... it honestly sickens me to see finally how courput our goverment is... i always knew they were shady but even taking there computer and stuff like that is flat out robbery, wtf does electronics have to do with weed, i think the goverment should welcome the medical weed thing especailly at times like this they should have the common sense to realize they make a profit from a plant, that has to be one of the easiest ways to make money, to grow a fucking plant and sell it.... i welcome obama.. he is pimping at its finest.

so basically, i can put on a dea jacket and wield a gun around a dispensary and take everything. Who would know the difference if no one is arrested? Stop this now!

Texas Toker

Feb 5 2009, 1:28 pm

Wow thats even a new low for our government. That was exactly what sean said it was, a robbery at gunpoint by people with permission to do so. I hope those fascists really feel good about themselves, because the people at the dispencery really arent the ones who got it bad, the patients of that dispencery are the ones who'll have to suffer because johnny law has to go against the constitution and fuck with state medical laws. Most people think that we're the scumbags, take a look at our dea agents, their the scum of the earth, they dont care how many lives they ruin all they care about is that fat goverment paycheck, and the power that comes with it, those people make me sick to my stomach. Fuck it, no more right? I hope those pigs had their fun while it lasted, hope yall smokers without those weed passes are ready cuz now that they cant raid dispenceries anymore they're gonna come full force on those who dont have state medical marijuana laws.

james

Feb 5 2009, 1:25 pm

seems to like the DEA is acting out one final lash of drugs and anything they can get their hands on cuz they know the end is near on this "war on drugs", its the real crime here. come on theyre using physical force to take our state leagal products! theres no justification for that.

Dave Ambrose

Feb 5 2009, 1:24 pm

Please, President Obama, help our sick nation. I smoke pot, not for medical reasons, but I still see the use in marijuana for the sick. Help our dying brothers on the west coast!

legalizing marijuana could help our economy in ways the government doesn't want to think about, instead of spending money to raid people why not tax it?
