Seven arrested for pot possession, one for distribution, in connection with Michael Phelps�s bong hit photo.

Congratulations to Sheriff Leon Lott, who apparently has solved every crime in Richland County, South Carolina, thus leaving him with plenty of free time to investigate “bong photos.” Based on the now infamous shot of 14-time Olympic gold medal winning swimmer Michael Phelps allegedly pulling tubes at a college party, Sheriff Lott obtained a search warrant for the house that hosted the pot party, with a raid to follow.

According to multiple media reports, the police made eight arrests (including one for distribution), and also confiscated the now notorious Roor bong at the center of the scandal, after its owner allegedly tried to sell it on eBay for $100,000.

Despite missing the most legendary session in University of South Carolina history, the bong’s owner appears to be among those arrested.

No word yet on whether Phelps himself will be targeted, but check back with hightimes.com for the latest news on this “bubbling” story.

It's all about media coverage. That dumbshit sheriff just wants his face in the news next to Phelps. People these days will do ANYTHING for some kind of recognition. I heard on the news radio, it was Sheriff Leon speaking, he said he and Phelps spoke extensively and Phelps wouldn't be charged because they agreed that they need to set an example for America. ie, Phelps told that pig to shut the f*%$ up and smacked him across the face with a bank-roll.

.. So tired of these neo-nazi police forces. Seriously. If pot is legalized it will boost the economy several billion dollars a year (so say economists) as long as it's taxed and regulated. It's safer than drinking for Pete's sake. Ugh..

pictures of people smoking are not illegal, but the police that searched the house arrested the owner for intent to distribute and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Smoking weed is such a normal thing. The fact that Michael Phelps smokes weed amd has still won 12 Gold medals does nothing but reinforce the POSITIVE FACTS about our friend Mary Jane. So, thank you Mr. Phelps for indorcing weed, a real product, unlike those horribly tasting Wheaties. What law enforcment officers should be doing is going to their mayors and governors and let them know how rediculous they feel when they pop a guy going 5 over with a possession charge and how you really want to be out saving the world from the bad guys.

I live in Columbia and this is total bullshit. All Lott is doing is getting his fifteen minutes of fame. Over the years he has had a problem with not knowing when to shut his mouth. This case is especially funny since Lott grew up here and has had a past of former drug use. Douchebag. He is an elected official and this is all a political move to get his name made. He sucks. A week before all this started one women was killed and another stabbed by a man needing crack money. We really need to get our priorities straight, Lott needs to quit wasting my tax money. Especially when our state has the third highest unemployment rate in the country.

We have a serious situation in South Carolina regarding the Phelps case. Please view the attached video. A search warrant was issued on one of the 8 arrested in the Phelps case for "tobacco" a "legal" substance found in the trash! Sheriff Leon Lott has a fully militarized force equipped with a military tank and 50 caliber machine guns to use on drug raids and gambling raids. This abuse by local law enforcement is waaaaaay out of hand and we need ALL activists speaking out about this fascist tyranny!!! Keep the heat on Kelloggs! The photo had nothing to do with these guys getting busted , BUT it was the reason the cops showed up . If they DID NOT have any weed on them , they wouldn't have gotten busted .

I think this whole fiasco is so f#&#^$ ridiculous. Ok i understand that phelps is a role model for children but lets examine that train of thought.
1. Whenever i ask a legalization opponent why this is such a big deal they cite that Phelps is a role model for children and a representative of the U.S. Society.
* Children should be brought up to understand that the decisions of others should not affect their judgement of a matter. They should be taught to understand that marijuana use is somewhat harmless and fun, but like alcohol use it is and adult habit to partake in and is not for minors. We feel the only way to deter drug use is to beat this idea into our children: that if they smoke weed they will overdose and eventually become addicted to much harder drugs. Which we all know is very untrue for both cases. If anything the reason kids go from marijuana use to harder drugs is because they have broken through this mental wall installed in them by the schools and their parents. "They lied to me about weed, what else did they lie about".
*As a representative for his country yes this is a poor decision on phelps's part. The way it is being handled displays how though we are living in the land of the free we do not have all of our freedoms.

I think it is amazing that one of the sports icons of our time is in the same boat as all of us. Persecuted for enjoying what God put on this earth for us to enjoy. Unfortunately, due to his status as a role model, he had to apologize for his actions and pass it off as a mistake he made that one time. The thing is, and everyone who ever visited this site will agree, that there is no way in hell Phelps tried it only one time and called it quits after that. I've never met anyone who smoked a bowl of heaven and didn't enjoy it enough to ever smoke it again. I understand his dilema however - he is looked up to by kids everywhere and marijuana has no business being exposed to them. Weed should be enjoyed by responsible adults who are willing to deal with the consequences that can come with it. Anyone upset that he didn't come out and turn into a cannabis spokesman needs to chill out and be satisfied that one of the greatest athletes of all time smoked the same stuff we're fighting so hard for and won enough gold hardware to impress royalty. This is a win for us. End of story.

for as popular as he is he should be standing up for weed. i'm glad this happened because more exposer to weed means the more it gets talked about, brought up, argued, anything. make it a common thing, everyone just needs to say fuck it and let it be legal. the taxes on the shit will help the greedy gov. and growing / manufactoring will make jobs. how much long do we have to wait? it's a fucking plant people, it's harmless, people are the ones who fuck it up for themselves... i need to smoke a blunt.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think anyone should be charged with this.
