Attorney General Confirms: No More Raids!

Thu, Feb 26, 2009 12:46 pm

-

Speaking with reporters at a press conference touting a US-led campaign that resulted in the arrests of 750 members of the violent Mexican Sinaloa Drug Cartel, Attorney General Eric Holder – the highest level law enforcement official in America – confirmed the federal government’s new policy of respecting the rights of medical marijuana patients and providers in states with laws protecting them.

Fast forward to 24:45 in this CSPAN video to hear Holder strongly affirm that what Obama said about medical marijuana during the campaign is now “American policy.”

So what did Obama say about medical marijuana during the campaign? Read it below, or watch the video.

“I would not have the Justice Department prosecuting and raiding medical marijuana users. It's not a good use of our resources."

Lizzie - don't hate all churches, 1/3 are actually sick of the way it is now - and are talking, 1/3 already been smoking since confirmation, and the rest can shut the fuck up.
But yes, tax them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless they make usury (charging interest on loans) illegal again - then they can stay tax exempt. Can't have it both ways, not even in USA.
Besides, once it's legal, insurance will cover it and you'll only have a $10 co-pay! If you got the medical card. Recreational users pay retail, which will be 1/2 the price once we all start growing.

I hate insomnia. I am going too try too have a medical marijuana grow school for people in my small,2500 people, town.
In Texas, where there is now a medical bill being decided.
It will be for the patients who think they will qualify for it when it passes. And for anyone who may become a caregiver for the disabled, too grow their medicine for them.
I will show them both the dirt planting and tending of the
seed, and the way it's done hydroponicaly, indoors and out. And give them the pro's and cons of both.
I won't be charging anything for this. I will do this because I don't think the government will. Only by spreading this type of knowledge too the public can we insure that the
next President won't come in and wreck the progress already
achieved. If we can increase the number of people that use
marijuana for medicine too a high enough number,no prez,or congress will be able too reverse this train.

Conservatives would hate this one. Isreal is big into medical marijuana:

January 9, 2009. Medical Marijuana Donation Leveraged in Israel

For the last several years, MAPS has provided financial support for the development of the compassionate use of marijuana in Israel, in conjunction with a program of medical access developed by the Israeli Ministry of Health. The Ministry reviews applications from physicians on behalf of their patients and has licensed four different medical marijuana production facilities. These facilities have permits from the Israeli Ministry of Health to provide marijuana for free to Ministry-approved patients. Since the production facilities can only give marijuana away, they rely on donations to cover costs. An excellent article on the Israeli medical marijuana program was published recently in an Israeli newspaper, and has been translated by Dana Peleg, MA.

In November, MAPS offered $15,000 as a matching grant to Yohai Golan, who has one of the Ministry production licenses. In December, Yohai managed to obtain $15,000 as his match from Israeli donors and MAPS sent him our $15,000, provided by an anonymous donor. Over the last several weeks, Yohai has concluded negotiations with Israeli investors (not donors) who are providing sufficient funding (roughly $200,000 per year) to cover the provision of enough marijuana for 500 patients for the next two years. These investors are gambling that they can make money providing marijuana extracts to the pharmaceutical industry, since they can grow marijuana for this purpose as well as for free distribution to patients. In addition, they expect they will eventually be given permission to sell marijuana to patients, though how much research will have to be conducted first remains to be determined.

As a side project to the production facility, Yohai’s team will be producing organic cannabis oil tinctures that can be used as a substitute for smoking for patients who prefer not to – or cannot – inhale smoke or vapors from a vaporizer. The tinctures will use donated fair-trade organic olive oil produced by Palestinians in the West Bank and Israelis in Israel.

Yohai Golan has estimated that the value of the marijuana that they will give away is roughly $6 million per year, based on prices for legal Dutch medical marijuana and prices for medical marijuana in the US.

Kellogg's Brand Damaged By Dumping Michael Phelps

Dumping Michael Phelps over the now notorious photo of him taking a bong rip is not looking like the best move for Kellogg. Pot activists, who insist they make up a large share of consumers of Kellogg products, organized a boycott of the company. The boycott resonated with Kellogg customers to such a degree that when you called Kellogg, the first audio recording you heard was not about the nation-wide salmonella outbreak that had sickened dozens of people, but was a message for callers who were concerned about the company's relationship with Phelps.

The relationship has actually damaged Kellogg's brand. Silicon Alley Insider reports:

Out of the 5,600 company reputations Vanno monitors, Kellogg ranked ninth before it booted Phelps. Now it's ranked 83. Not even an industry-wide peanut scare inflicted as much damage on the food company's reputation.

Lizzie

Feb 28 2009, 1:40 am

Hmm. Good point...
But my thinking is that there will be a lot of slack over what constitutes "medical," while those who have "religious" grounds may attack the criminalization from another angle, thus helping to dissolve the issue from multiple sides.

...And if all else fails, if the "man" gets pissed and decides to pass amendments that the gov need not support religion-based lobbying or pressures, we may set a precendent for the blocking of *all* religious influence on government (ie Mormons and all uppity churches), and maybe even eventual taxation, which would help the economy and also teach churches to just STFU in general. ; )

(See how bud just helps the advancement of society in general?)

Clay

Feb 28 2009, 1:35 am

If you hang around in the society we have created,if you can't speak with a forked tongue, you ain't gonna fit in. Good night America, again we can go too sleep with some of our fellow Americans not having too worry about the gestapo kicking their door in, Looking forward too when we all can do the same.

See,you can relax, just learn too speak with a forked tongue.

Clay

Feb 28 2009, 1:22 am

just don't tell the great spirit your smoking medical pot,and don't tell the feds your smoking religous pot

Clay

Feb 28 2009, 1:16 am

and the important thing about medical pot is that it accomplishes the same thing as the religous pot.

Clay

Feb 28 2009, 1:14 am

Lizzie,if you were trying cross a river on horseback and the horse wouldn't swim it,you might have too swim alone too
cross, but the important thing is you got across.

Clay

Feb 28 2009, 1:10 am

This is going too get real interesting. there is gonna be so much that changes just because they set a precedent, with the simple act of admitting that pot was a medicine. The big money boy's are at this moment, all over the world, buying boat loads of medical pot, with DR' signatures on the bills of lading for
medical pot. Just because they can.

Lizzie

Feb 28 2009, 1:09 am

I don't know. You might have more info than me, maybe.
But I'm talking about "religious" expression now (which may overlap with "lifestyle" in some cases), which is not at all the same as "for medical purposes only," I don't think.

Clay

Feb 28 2009, 1:04 am

And when a Doctor in Columbia signs a bill of lading on a boat load of medical pot, will the feds confiscate it? Will the countries that have allowed the DEA to come into their country and destroy their marijuana crops yesterday, allow them too dedtroy their medical pot plantations?

Clay

Feb 28 2009, 12:59 am

If you don't live in a state where med pot is legal, you will
soon. When the feds stood up in front of the world, and named marijuana as a medicine, they opened a door that they will never be able too close. What state is going too deny a medicine too their constituents?

Clay

Feb 28 2009, 12:53 am

Do you mean too say that Indians can't get prescriptions for pot? I didn't know that we were denying them medical services.

Lizzie

Feb 28 2009, 12:16 am

Ok and great! But lets see if the raids on Native Americans for possession end too. If a Rasta can one day claim religious freedom to blaze up, then the Natives have the best grounds to blaze that trail, since they were here first and our laws can't violate theirs. As long as they don't sell to non-Natives, they need to be let be. It's a start, but an important one, and it needs to pass NOW.

anonymous

Feb 27 2009, 10:06 pm

And if they do have prescriptions, wouldn't they have too go to a clinic too get their med pot. They might luck out and buy some of their own.

anonymous

Feb 27 2009, 10:04 pm

And I wonder,do all the medical pot growers have prescriptions
for pot? It must be hard too grow that stuff and then have too
sell all of it too the distributors and not get too keep any.

Feb 27 2009, 9:55 pm

Thats strange for them to do it that way though, usually the FDA,(another one of those 3 letter gangs) to decide if something is medicine or not.

of raising just medical pot for yourself? Inquisitive minds want to know?

honest abe

Feb 27 2009, 8:55 pm

honestly this is my view point on it. the government will stop raids on medical marijuana users and supporters. most of the states they have medical marijuana offered it is legal in the state. so now the feds are going to back off on medical marijuana users. but the problem persists with those that are not licensed by the state to posses and smoke weed. i believe they will go through a lot more persecution now for their passions. its unfortunate and i would do anything i can to protect my fellow marijuana right's activists. now we all have to remember during all of this. section 803 of the patriot act basically says that a law enforcement officer has the legal right to pull you over, search you, and without you in jail, without plausible cause or reason, for 72 hours. and at the end of that they don't legally have to give you a court hearing. that is the law we should all fear the most. as we lose our freedoms.

Clay

Feb 27 2009, 8:49 pm

Went and saw the story, yes it's sad,but it happened before the
Atty Gen press conference. So too say that the raids continue,
is s false.

Clay

Feb 27 2009, 8:35 pm

And if California state law say it's legal too sell and use medical pot, then someone needs too write up a complaint and file it for a grand jury hearing against the cops that did the raiding. GEEZ,I don't have a copy of the Calif penal code, nor do you specify was the raid just against med patients.

anonymous

Feb 27 2009, 8:25 pm

When the money guy's come in on the conversion,it will happen pretty quick then.

Clay

Feb 27 2009, 8:22 pm

This conversion from totally dangerous too a medical drug is not going too happen overnite. You've got too give the big money guy's time too realign their money where they are the ones making the most money out of it for it too happen.

Clay

Feb 27 2009, 8:16 pm

you said local cops continued medical raids, did you mean feds?

anonymous

Feb 27 2009, 8:15 pm

How about LOCAL COPS? what part of that don't you understand?

Clay

Feb 27 2009, 8:13 pm

And before it happens, the Feds will also be making raids on marijuana growers and dealers that have no medical connections,so when they do,don't holler wolf, they only said they were stopping raids medical suppliers and distributors.

Clay

Feb 27 2009, 8:01 pm

Ok.lets see, LOCAL COPS aren't federal cops, they don't care what the feds are doing. They will only stop when their boss's
instruct them too,or the state they are in legalizes or decriminalizes.

Clay

Feb 27 2009, 7:58 pm

My next idea is to print medical marijuana on rolling papers,
and selling them to people that go out in public and would like light up at the bar.

Clay

Feb 27 2009, 7:43 pm

For still waiting: This is your lucky day. It just happens that I have 275,899,756 MEDICAL MARIJUANA signs for sale.

Maybe someone finally hit the total button on their gov't adding machine, saw how much they've spent, and figured out they ain't stopped shit.

Clay

Feb 27 2009, 7:15 pm

I believe the raids will stop. I believe this is the governments way to bow out of an untenable position. There have been too many lab tests, psychological testing, and consumer testing for them to support the dangerous drug class-
ification, that they need in order too justify spending the money too stop pot.

How About Pardons for Lynch, Fry, Schafer, Rosenthal and Other Medical Marijuana Pioneers?
It is indeed wonderful news that Obama's administration will stop conducting raids on medical marijuana dispensaries. However, it's news that comes too late for many of the people in this movement who put their lives on the line fighting for this change in the first place.

It's too late for Charles Lynch, who has already been convicted in federal court.

It's too late for Dale Schafer and Mollie Fry, who have already have been convicted in federal court.

It's too late for Ed Rosenthal, who was already convicted in federal court. (Rosenthal only spent one day in jail, but the conviction is a serious penalty in itself.)

These are just some of the folks who have done pioneering work in the medical marijuana, folks whose actions the federal government now admits it ought not to be policing. In keeping with the new federal stance, wouldn't it make sense to pardon the pioneers?

I think the raids will continue. It's whats in the video before 24:45. Carefully read the quote “I would not have the Justice Department prosecuting and raiding medical marijuana users. It's not a good use of our resources." The Supreme Court has already held that federal agents have the constitutional right to enforce federal laws. It would take another landmark decision. If you think "Well, that maybe true-but at least its a change in attitude." Well, I'd say this all smoke mirrors political talk. The righteous global drug war that the US/DEA is involved will be the death of this country. It will be the justification for a N. American union. The USDOJ says the DTO's use marijuana revenue to pay the high shipping costs of cocaine, heroin and meth. So it seems there is an obvious solution to really put a dent into their industry-get rid of all federal drug regulations! I very seriously doubt that if there was a large industry of marijuana producers that brought in millions of tax dollars that other states would not follow their lead.

A ray of sunshine??

Speaking at a press conference with DEA
administrator Michelle Leonhart, Attorney General
Eric Holder declared that ending medical
marijuana raids "is now American policy."
A reporter asked, "shortly after the
inauguration there were raids on California
medical marijuana dispensaries...do you expect
these to continue?", noting that the President
had promised to end the raids in the campaign.
Holder responded, "What the President said
during the campaign...is consistent with what we
will be doing here in law enforcement. He was my
boss in the campaign....He is my boss now. What
he said in the campaign is now American policy."
!!!
The question appears about 25 minutes into the
press conference, which was devoted to an
operation against the Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel.

You go Clay. Actually it was Free Wheelin' Franklin who had the quote on pot and money. I had that poster and all of the comics, what a hoot. You're a lot more entertaining than Mass Cop. You must be a real piece of work. Have a great day with this no more raid news. Jubilee !!!

Clay

How would I be the one too ruin anything? After all, without
descent and people with the balls too speak out about whats wrong with the system,we would not have gotten this far.

I know, but the fight was mostly won, when the Attorney General
stood in front of the camera and stated it was no longer the policy of the American govt to interfere with medical pot users. That is a long way from walkin into a 7-11 and buyin
a pack of Marlboro Greens, but its a start. And Obama,he is a true politician. He is not going to stick his neck in a noose,
or hurt himself politically, supporting a possible bad cause.
By his statement 2 or three days ago, that he does not support legalization, and his statement during his campaign that he had
smoked pot,and that he inhaled, tells me that he also knows that pot is not the great satan. By stating that he doesn't support it,he is covering his own ass,so if it all blows up,he's the good guy,and if everything works out good,he will be telling everyone how he finally overturned those
terrible marijuana laws.

YAY! NOW WE NEED TO STAND UP AND FIGHT FOR MEDICAL MARIJUANA Throughout the entire USA.

Clay

Feb 26 2009, 4:18 pm

Thats exactly the point,,,,EVERYTHING has changed. The feds, for the first time in over 80 years, are allowing the cultivation and use of pot. Nothing has changed.

Clay

As an American veteran with the freedom of speech guaranteed to me by the Federal Government, and oh yeah, the constitution.
Fuck you, and them

Clay

Feb 26 2009, 3:49 pm

I think the feds will Decriminalize pot, remove all federal penalties, and let each state decide how they want too handle
their own dirty dish's. Hopefully, this will remove the obstacle of the state passing a law contradictory to fed law
and maybe we won't have too watch that egg frying anymore.
I doubt the feds will give those pot hating granny good witch's anymore of the war on drug money too make those stupid ads.

I don't believe that the feds will ever legalize pot. Too do so would be too admitting that somehow, they had accidentally lied to the American people about the dangers and
evils of marijuana,,,,for 82 years. We couldn't get that one guy too admit he got a blow job, much less used a propaganda
tactic, supposedly to be used for the people's benefit, was used too further the interests of the police and the political powers that ruled then. It's bad that they did this to their own people,in the 30's, but the real atrocity is that now every elected official in power has perpetuated this same propaganda. Anyone with the IQ of an ice cube that has ever read the Marijuana Study instigated by Nixon, knows it was a law based on lies. The same as any person who has smoked a joint realizes that someone has lied too them somewhere.

Busy, busy, busy. Just booked flight to CA too go to clinic there too secure a prescription for med pot, although,my next appointment at the VA clinic in June,I should be able too get one from them. A number of VA doctors have said they would prescribe pot if there wasn't a federal law against it. Since they are paid by the Federal government, they should have no qualms about writing the script. They may not all write them, but it won't take the vets too figure out who too talk too. Busy, busy, busy, canceling flight to CA. A federal script oughta trump a CA script.

In 1972,here in my hometown,I was arrested and jailed for dist
to a Department Of Public Safety and the Sheriff arrested me.
In the court room at my trial,I claimed it was my right too smoke based on the Marijuana Study appointed by first term Nixon, which basically stated that there was no known danger caused by the use of marijuana, and that it should be decriminalized and studied for possible medical uses. I got 3 years in the pen. My greatest moment happened 10 minutes ago, when I walked up too that very same, now ex-sheriff,and repeated my same statement too him again, and told him of this landmark move by the federal government. He was sitting with
the present day sheriff and the new sheriff said it was about time they either shit or get off the pot.(No pun intended)LOL

You can't blame all the worlds woes on that point. Because, pot doesn't stop GREED,and that is what 99% of all world conflicts are over. The rich have IT,and want more, and the poor will kill too get IT!

We still need patient rights in the states who still abuse its med citizens with prison. Then we can think about the economy, if there is one left by then.
