Attorney General Confirms: No More Raids!
Thu, Feb 26, 2009 12:46 pm
Speaking with reporters at a press conference touting a US-led campaign that resulted in the arrests of 750 members of the violent Mexican Sinaloa Drug Cartel, Attorney General Eric Holder – the highest level law enforcement official in America – confirmed the federal government’s new policy of respecting the rights of medical marijuana patients and providers in states with laws protecting them.
Fast forward to 24:45 in this CSPAN video to hear Holder strongly affirm that what Obama said about medical marijuana during the campaign is now “American policy.”
So what did Obama say about medical marijuana during the campaign? Read it below, or watch the video.
“I would not have the Justice Department prosecuting and raiding medical marijuana users. It's not a good use of our resources."

But yes, tax them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless they make usury (charging interest on loans) illegal again - then they can stay tax exempt. Can't have it both ways, not even in USA.
Besides, once it's legal, insurance will cover it and you'll only have a $10 co-pay! If you got the medical card. Recreational users pay retail, which will be 1/2 the price once we all start growing.

In Texas, where there is now a medical bill being decided.
It will be for the patients who think they will qualify for it when it passes. And for anyone who may become a caregiver for the disabled, too grow their medicine for them.
I will show them both the dirt planting and tending of the
seed, and the way it's done hydroponicaly, indoors and out. And give them the pro's and cons of both.
I won't be charging anything for this. I will do this because I don't think the government will. Only by spreading this type of knowledge too the public can we insure that the
next President won't come in and wreck the progress already
achieved. If we can increase the number of people that use
marijuana for medicine too a high enough number,no prez,or congress will be able too reverse this train.

Conservatives would hate this one. Isreal is big into medical marijuana:
January 9, 2009. Medical Marijuana Donation Leveraged in Israel
For the last several years, MAPS has provided financial support for the development of the compassionate use of marijuana in Israel, in conjunction with a program of medical access developed by the Israeli Ministry of Health. The Ministry reviews applications from physicians on behalf of their patients and has licensed four different medical marijuana production facilities. These facilities have permits from the Israeli Ministry of Health to provide marijuana for free to Ministry-approved patients. Since the production facilities can only give marijuana away, they rely on donations to cover costs. An excellent article on the Israeli medical marijuana program was published recently in an Israeli newspaper, and has been translated by Dana Peleg, MA.
In November, MAPS offered $15,000 as a matching grant to Yohai Golan, who has one of the Ministry production licenses. In December, Yohai managed to obtain $15,000 as his match from Israeli donors and MAPS sent him our $15,000, provided by an anonymous donor. Over the last several weeks, Yohai has concluded negotiations with Israeli investors (not donors) who are providing sufficient funding (roughly $200,000 per year) to cover the provision of enough marijuana for 500 patients for the next two years. These investors are gambling that they can make money providing marijuana extracts to the pharmaceutical industry, since they can grow marijuana for this purpose as well as for free distribution to patients. In addition, they expect they will eventually be given permission to sell marijuana to patients, though how much research will have to be conducted first remains to be determined.
As a side project to the production facility, Yohai’s team will be producing organic cannabis oil tinctures that can be used as a substitute for smoking for patients who prefer not to – or cannot – inhale smoke or vapors from a vaporizer. The tinctures will use donated fair-trade organic olive oil produced by Palestinians in the West Bank and Israelis in Israel.
Yohai Golan has estimated that the value of the marijuana that they will give away is roughly $6 million per year, based on prices for legal Dutch medical marijuana and prices for medical marijuana in the US.

Kellogg's Brand Damaged By Dumping Michael Phelps
Dumping Michael Phelps over the now notorious photo of him taking a bong rip is not looking like the best move for Kellogg. Pot activists, who insist they make up a large share of consumers of Kellogg products, organized a boycott of the company. The boycott resonated with Kellogg customers to such a degree that when you called Kellogg, the first audio recording you heard was not about the nation-wide salmonella outbreak that had sickened dozens of people, but was a message for callers who were concerned about the company's relationship with Phelps.
The relationship has actually damaged Kellogg's brand. Silicon Alley Insider reports:
Out of the 5,600 company reputations Vanno monitors, Kellogg ranked ninth before it booted Phelps. Now it's ranked 83. Not even an industry-wide peanut scare inflicted as much damage on the food company's reputation.

But my thinking is that there will be a lot of slack over what constitutes "medical," while those who have "religious" grounds may attack the criminalization from another angle, thus helping to dissolve the issue from multiple sides.
...And if all else fails, if the "man" gets pissed and decides to pass amendments that the gov need not support religion-based lobbying or pressures, we may set a precendent for the blocking of *all* religious influence on government (ie Mormons and all uppity churches), and maybe even eventual taxation, which would help the economy and also teach churches to just STFU in general. ; )
(See how bud just helps the advancement of society in general?)

How About Pardons for Lynch, Fry, Schafer, Rosenthal and Other Medical Marijuana Pioneers?
It is indeed wonderful news that Obama's administration will stop conducting raids on medical marijuana dispensaries. However, it's news that comes too late for many of the people in this movement who put their lives on the line fighting for this change in the first place.
It's too late for Charles Lynch, who has already been convicted in federal court.
It's too late for Dale Schafer and Mollie Fry, who have already have been convicted in federal court.
It's too late for Ed Rosenthal, who was already convicted in federal court. (Rosenthal only spent one day in jail, but the conviction is a serious penalty in itself.)
These are just some of the folks who have done pioneering work in the medical marijuana, folks whose actions the federal government now admits it ought not to be policing. In keeping with the new federal stance, wouldn't it make sense to pardon the pioneers?

" Reporter drags medical marijuana poilcy change statement form Holder"
It's not as if the press conference was held to announce the policy change.
There were raids within the last week or so, making this look like double speak to me.
Where is the excutive order preventing the raids? If Obama would issue an excutive order. Then Holders statement would carry some water.
Talkin aint walkin!

A ray of sunshine??
Speaking at a press conference with DEA
administrator Michelle Leonhart, Attorney General
Eric Holder declared that ending medical
marijuana raids "is now American policy."
A reporter asked, "shortly after the
inauguration there were raids on California
medical marijuana dispensaries...do you expect
these to continue?", noting that the President
had promised to end the raids in the campaign.
Holder responded, "What the President said
during the campaign...is consistent with what we
will be doing here in law enforcement. He was my
boss in the campaign....He is my boss now. What
he said in the campaign is now American policy."
!!!
The question appears about 25 minutes into the
press conference, which was devoted to an
operation against the Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel.

First off, let me remind you that statments on policy during the campaign are called "campaign promises" even if they don't use the word "promise." And second of all, it is done. The policy has changed, and you were very wrong about him, shame on you for being so negative and bashing this good man who kept his word. a pack of Marlboro Greens, but its a start. And Obama,he is a true politician. He is not going to stick his neck in a noose,
or hurt himself politically, supporting a possible bad cause.
By his statement 2 or three days ago, that he does not support legalization, and his statement during his campaign that he had
smoked pot,and that he inhaled, tells me that he also knows that pot is not the great satan. By stating that he doesn't support it,he is covering his own ass,so if it all blows up,he's the good guy,and if everything works out good,he will be telling everyone how he finally overturned those

evils of marijuana,,,,for 82 years. We couldn't get that one guy too admit he got a blow job, much less used a propaganda
tactic, supposedly to be used for the people's benefit, was used too further the interests of the police and the political powers that ruled then. It's bad that they did this to their own people,in the 30's, but the real atrocity is that now every elected official in power has perpetuated this same propaganda. Anyone with the IQ of an ice cube that has ever read the Marijuana Study instigated by Nixon, knows it was a law based on lies. The same as any person who has smoked a joint realizes that someone has lied too them somewhere.
