Willie Nelson Busted In Sierra Blanca
Listen to the exclusive HIGH TIMES Interview
Mon, Nov 29, 2010 4:02 pm
On Friday morning, November 26 – the day after Thanksgiving – country music legend Willie Nelson was charged by the U.S. Border Patrol with possession of marijuana when officers found six ounces of Willie Weed aboard his tour bus at a Texas checkpoint.
On Saturday night, Willie e-mailed CelebStoner.com and suggested the creation of the Teapot Party: "Tax it, regulate it and legalize it," Nelson said, "And stop the border wars over drugs…. Thousands of lives will be saved."
On Sunday a fan-created Facebook page - "Willie Nelson’s Teapot Party" – garnered over 5000 "Likes" within twenty-four hours with no press and no publicity. The page count continues to increase exponentially.
And on Monday morning, November 29, Willie Nelson called associate publisher Rick Cusick at his New Jersey home and recorded the following exclusive interview for HIGHTIMES.com:
Rick Cusick: Here’s a question: What happened on Friday?
Willie Nelson: Well, we were going through a checkpoint and for some reason they singled us out and pulled us over. And they found a little weed on the bus and that’s all they needed.
RC: Were the cops adversarial to you? I mean, it boggles people’s minds that you could be in Texas and still get hassled for this sort of thing.
WN: Yeah. This was in Sierra Blanca down there where it’s very active with illegal aliens and that stuff and the crazy dope wars and everything down on the border. And Sierra Blanca’s right down there in the middle of that. So they’re pretty edgy down there, and well they should be. But they were good to us. They didn’t mistreat us at all.
RC: Were you the only one charged?
WN: Yeah.
RC: When are you supposed to go to court? Do you know?
WN: Oh, I don’t know. I turned it over to my lawyer. He’s contacting them. He’s getting it set up.
RC: Now the scariest thing we’re hearing today is that TMZ is reporting that you could be looking at six months to two years. Is that really possible?
WN: I don’t think so.
RC: Yeah, that’s good to hear. They were saying that because this is like your third time around the block for getting pulled over with the bus. But I think it’s going to be treated probably as just a head stash, right?
WN: It’s Class – What is it called? Class A misdemeanor is what I think they called it.
RC: OK so you’re looking at a Class A Misdemeanor. All right.
WN: Yeah,
RC: All right. Tell me a little bit about the Teapot Party idea you got.
WN: Oh, I don’t know. It was just, I thought, you know I thought it was kind of funny, a little joke that I carried a little farther. It’s not a bad idea when you think about it. It’s, one day, you know, it’s all going to happen. The economy’s so bad now that one day they’re going to have to turn around and say, you know, why are we letting the illegal guys make all the money here.
RC: Yeah, exactly so. I mean, the Teapot Party sounds to me like this could actually galvanize a lot of people. What happened to you could galvanize a lot of people to get involved and the Teapot Party sounds like it might be a way for them to do it.
WN: Yeah, and I think if nothing else it could be like the Tea Party. They could find somebody who feels the way we do and back ‘em in a political election because I know there’s a lot of the young candidates out there running that feel like we do. They need to know that maybe there’s a way to get some of the, you know, guys like us off our lazy ass and go vote.
RC: You know, I noticed that you had said in the original statement to the press, that you said “Our motto is ‘We lean a little to the left’ (Willie laughs). I think that was a slight uh, a slight jab at the Tea Party, eh, which leans a little bit to the right. Does that sound right to you?
WN: (Chuckles) Yes, sir. That’s true (Laughs).
RC: That’s what I got the biggest kick out of-
WN: Yeah.
RC: Because in the world with the Tea Party flourishing the way it did, I don’t see how the Teapot Party can’t flourish.
WN: I don’t either. I think there’s more of us than there are of them.
RC: Absolutely. You know there’s twenty-five million Americans smoke marijuana every year, seventeen million Americans smoke it every month and over four million Americans smoke it every day.
WN: Yeah.
RC: And if you getting pulled over to the side of a road in Texas can’t piss them off, I don’t know what would.
WN: Well, I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see what happens but I thought it was worth a shot just to kinda stir people up a little bit.
RC: Yeah, well this is Rick Cusick and I’m really glad you called in for HIGHTIMES.com. I’m going to put this up today and I know you’re a busy man. I don’t want to take up too much of your time. But good luck to you. If there’s anything we can do you just yell out and tell me, okay.
WN: Well, thanks, Rick. I appreciate it and good talking to you.

Most people don't even know why MJ was prohibited. Hurst was not going after smoking MJ, he was after industrial hemp. I guess you could say that Willy Randy Hurst & Hairy Anslinger were the god fathers of the modern pollution movement that led to stuff like the Love Canal.
If Hurst woulda went with hemp instead of trees for his newspapers & invested in hemp rather than the then fledgling DuPont chemical plant, he woulda saved a LOT of bad things that happened to the earth because of oil based chemicals. And a LOT of lives lives of the Rx drug users who DIE from them every year. I'll take natural cannabis over Rx chemical concoctions any time. [Yeah, I know that some good comes from Rx drugs. But they also kill many thousands every year. Cannabis? No deaths yet! ]
Hey Willie! How about running for POTUS? No? Well let's go with Ron Paul & Judge Napolitano. Both want to end the drug war...:-)

I'm sure the authorities treated him well. It was an concept to exploit their campaign and send a message to Mexico. "Even our hero's" can be treated to your equal.
The TeaPot's whistle is a blow"n, the winds of change are in our horizon.
What you wanna bet! They wanted Willie Nelson to play a little ditty before leaving.

The U.S. government has so far delivered more than $310 million, with plans to spend an additional $495 million in equipment and training by the end of 2011, according to the state department.
"It's about training local law enforcement in Mexico to be more effective in their work, which is enormously important," Olson said. "This is the sort of thing that will make the difference."
The initiative is still being implemented, with the delivery of three Black Hawk helicopters on Nov. 24 the Mexican federal police, marking the first Merida Initiative aviation delivery to the Mexican government.

Consider: The degree and extent of politial anger. The sense of failure in President Obama. The "torqued up Republican's". Same for Dems and the largest group of all Indep's.
If the Tea Party is "Jerry Fawell & moral mojority meets the old "Patriot" terrorist group then throw in law enforcement and small business and that is them. When they found out the patriot, liberterians were all pot smokers they impose a religous test. Trust me. "We flunk."
Now. Just look at what is going on with the left and Obama?
Change gears. Consider the number of prisoners going thru a county jail each year. Trust me. Some of these poor people do not know the difference between a Democ & a Rep. Very important. Few of these kids or grown ups have ever watched the news. Newspapers? Are you kidding me.
90% of these people will be able to vote. Each has a Mom. (I was thinking Dad but we won't go there.) Aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, next door neighbors, family friends. Some registered. Some not. All pissed off. Right wing. Left. Black. White. Latino. All on a voter list. Our voter list.
Each County has files. Any lawyer can access these. THEN.
Mail um. Contact um. Get them, their friends, family, not only registered to vote but we are "in contact" with them to tell them when and how to vote.
Very important. In the PRIMARIES. 1/10 of 1% of the normal voters in a general election will show for the primary.
The Tea Party did.
Why can't we?
Set up in as many counties as possible. Organize as many friendly attorneys as possible and then stay out of their hair. Get release info organized by zip code.
Issues we could get some people thrown out of office on:
Not only pot. Bank fiasco? Police state? Size of US military and the budget. Banks getting rescue after rescue and people loosing homes by the thousands. Not one dime did they get. Jobs? Foreign TRADE policy?
Con-artist foreign policy. Expand Iraq & Afghanistan wars into Pakistan? Iran? Targeted assination? How much longer before your declared a "domestic terrorist" for telling the T.S.A. pervert to keep his hands off your wife & kids? 911?
THE FED? QE2? Inflation? Gold prices?
Anybody wanna talk about "the giant sucking sound?"
"Measure twice, cut once." Looks who's laughing now.
Look yall. There is some low hanging fruit out there and it's time for a little "picking & grinnin." This could be put together with both Progressive and "some" right wing stations. NOT Fox. It could come together and come together quickly.
Willie - "Let's do lunch."
If anyone wants to address this or expand on it I will check back.
Thanks
"Yes we can."

Even if you don't believe in God, you will feel the fear of God when you experience the outrageousness of obscene power in the badges and uniforms of small-minded people of questionable intellect.
In this sparsely populated big beautiful country of the Far West Texas Borderland, the feds are the biggest employer. They spend obscene amounts of diniero policing US, We The People. Someone please tell me how a broke-ass government justifies such piracy?
Bogus, man!

Thank you for helping me with my dilemma. I couldn't decide whether to register Libertarian or stay Democrat, now the Feds and you have helped in the formation of the Teapot Party and given me a viable alternative that may well end up with at least as much clout as the Tea Party.
I have some friends from Europe who want me to explain why in our system of government we have an elected law enforcement official at the county level instead of a professional who has no need for macho political posturing. Since you helped me with one problem maybe you can help explain this.

If you disagree with the law exercise your right, vote not guilty. This is your right as a juror.
“If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.”
- Thomas Jefferson
“I consider trial by jury as the only anchor ever yet imagined by man, by which a government can be held to the principles of its constitution,” a Virginia lawyer wrote … His name was Thomas Jefferson.
People need 2 believe n the law b4 we can expect them 2 honor it. Anne Perry
