I accept my mission. Going to The Cannabis Cup 09!

Planning, packing, writing, charging, and recording: Test 1. Test 2. My soul feels like electric jello. This Saturday, I will be taking voyage to the Netherlands for my very first HIGH TIMES Cannabis Cup. This will be my first time in Amsterdam ever, oh my dear virgin eyes will behold the glory. Much respect & thanks to all of the HT crew for inviting me to come along. The event lines up perfectly with the release of my new STAND-UP and MUSIC album KEEP ON THE GRASS. Well wishers and astronomers should look for me in the night sky this Saturday, I will be flying in a 1988 US Space Shuttle with NECKFACE and Turk 186 graffiti tags. My plan is to make the rounds at “The 22nd Cannabis Cup” (in a circle), do a show, intro bands, blog, interview, shoot video, and judge the finest HASH and WEED on the planet. Back to my joint; I know what you are thinking,“Yo. Be careful Big Rob!”; Foreign country, passports, different languages, space-grass, aliens, prostitutes, Wizards, Goblins, ect. No worries kid, this event fits perfectly into my wheelhouse.

I moved to San Francisco from Washington D.C. with 300 dollars in my pocket without ever being in California before, ended up staying there for 4 years until Dr. Hollywood called. In 98, the year before I started performing comedy, I quit my boiler-room/cold-calling sales job after 3 years, sold everything I owned and then spent the next 8 months backpacking throughout South East Asia. I hung out on the most beautiful beaches on the planet with topless Euro Backpackers, smoking spliff after spliff in Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia. Leaned how to surf in Bali, Kuta Beach, a super easy beach break. I stayed there a whole month, hanging out with weed dealing Balinese surfers that lived on the beach and gave surf lessons to tourists for a few dollars. Five grand would go a loooong way in South East Asia during the Clinton years. When I came back to the states, I was flat broke and there was no way I was going back to the 9-5. “Comedy” was the something that kept calling me my whole life. There comes that breaking point in the mind, fuck thinking about it - the action is GO.

Ten years ago, I did my first show at a sketched out open mic in a bizarre Art Space on Market Street in SF called “The Luggage Store”. The crowd was 7 straight up street junkies and winos just hanging out because the shit was free. It went well, they laughed and I was hooked... on comedy. I lived and worked at “The Green Tortoise” hostel in the classic 'North Beach’ nieghborhood of San Francisco for over a year. I worked the graveyard shift, checking people into the Hostel from 12 am - 7 am in the morning. I ran mobb deep with ecstasy ridden euro ravers and dirt eating Hippies from lost tribes of the western Abyss. I did this while working my way up from the bottom of the Showbiz ladder, shows at coffeehouses, laundry mats and then comedy clubs. Weed has gotten me through soo many adventures, you can handle a lot of bullshit when there is weed at the end of the day, or in the beginning. I can safely say that I am ready for this CUP. Now days, I am living in Brooklyn NY, Married N Shit (love my girl, What-up Ann!?), released a CD and DVD, doing tons of Stand-Up, writing for HIGH TIMES, making music and dope films. I have been on this giant moss ball for a while, gleefully floating thru the chaos while slamming into asteroids here and there reminding me of my crumbling mortality. Stay humble and quietly confident when dancing with the chaos and laughter. You are never quite sure how it will all work out, but it always does. See you on the other side of the pond FREAKS!
