Unsigned Bands: The Melodramatics
Fri, Sep 18, 2009 2:06 pm
Jesse Geron, along with brothers Caleb and Wiley Saccheri, created The Melodramatics while still in high school in 2001. What began as a group of friends messing around with a mix of punk, rock and ska, transformed into something more solidified with the 2007 addition of Richard Hughes – whose trombone gave the group the brass sound needed to fill out their ska vibe.
In March of 2009 the band released their debut album, Superpower (available on iTunes). Shortly after the release the group replaced drummer Wiley Saccheri with Danny Hadsell and rededicated themselves to touring and making music. They’ve played almost constantly up and down the West Coast since.
In August The Melodramatics embarked on a 16-day tour along the West Coast, hitting Portland, Boise, Las Vegas, Lake Havasu, and Santa Cruz, to name a few. After the tour, the band ended the summer playing a Labor Day bash on an island in the Sacramento River in Chico, CA dubbed “Beer Can Beach.” An insane 15,000+ people came to float down the river and party at Beer Can Beach over the weekend.
Following the Labor Day show, drummer Danny Hadsell and the group parted ways. Having lost two drummers in six months, the band decided to bring Pyrx’s DJ ThirdE3 and drummer D-Rail into the fold. After a series of jam sessions as a five-piece, the band is excited by the new direction the music has taken. These sessions have produced an album’s worth of new material with a stronger focus on reggae and rock than previously. The group hopes to release its sophomore effort by the end of the year.
