After breaking attendance records in 2001, when the double whammy of the Dave Matthews Band and New Orleans-born rap star Mystikal drew 160,000 people in a single day, the 33rd annual New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival reverted to a slightly more human scale -- much to the delight of locals and longtime Fest-goers. A mere half a million people passed through the gates of the Crescent City fairgrounds, besting 2000 numbers but avoiding the overcrowding that plagued last year's event.
