Signs Marking High Street and Westward Ho Avenue Are Among the Most Stolen

EUGENE, Ore.�Oct.�12,�2004 —�The signs marking High Street have become a hot commodity and coveted dorm room decoration in these parts.

But what might seem like a sophomore prank is turning into a costly problem for the city, home to the University of Oregon. In the last decade, officials say they've had to replace the sign nearly 350 times.

Besides High Street, the University Street and Westward Ho Avenue signs are also frequently stolen.

The missing street markers are part of a backlog of about 100 signs that city crews will replace in coming months, said Damon Joyner, traffic technical team supervisor for the city.

"Sometimes they're hit by vehicles. Sometimes, they just seem to disappear," he said. "We've had instances of people just taking a chain saw to the post."

Officials said last year alone, Eugene spent more than $50,000 on replacement signs.

i live right by the high street sign that keeps getting stolen. and a buncha my friends that live in a nearby frat house stole it one time..... i dunno bout the other times. ne ways. hap-e 420's. and if ur like me happy am and pm 420's. peace

Thats hillarious. I rather be taking those signs though then stop signs. Who knows how many of those I run even when their there. Keep taken them signs all the way to number 420. Good day

There is a 420th road in the country near my town. It has been stolen may times.They started to sharpen the edge on top and put slippery crap at over the pole(i just backed the car up to it and knocked it off with a shovel i brought).Now they put the 420 on the pole and River road on the sign.

We took a sign once, we were pretty fucked up, jus wanted to do anything, I forget what it said. I think it was jus a picture of a kid waving his arms, the sign didnt say anything after that

go to a long highway and you will find mile marker 420. other good ones are 187, 211, 69, your age.

if the sign has been stolen 350 times it should be stolen atleast 70 more times.

We have a High Street here in Des Moines. I could care less about the sign, but I often dreamed that when cannabis and "paraphernalia" is at least decrimmed, I could have a head shop at 420 High Street.

the people stealing these sings are most likely in there late teens or ealy twentys, and if older , grow the f#$% up. Yes this coming from mee so horny. baleed dat!

I live near High St. subway station in Brooklyn and always wanted to take the sign from there. My friend has one of the big ones and he made it into the coolest table.
