NYC: "Cartoons" Marijuana Delivery Service Busted By DEA

A drug organization calling itself the Cartoon Network delivered high-grade marijuana to the doors of affluent clients in New York City and Long Island who identified themselves on the phone with the code-word "cartoon," according to court documents.

Drug Enforcement Administration agents arrested more than a dozen members of the 20-person network in the past week, according to sources familiar with the case.

Customers paid $100 for 2 grams of the drug, which was packed in plastic vials to contain the odor. The vials were recently embossed with "Merry Christmas," the sources said.

"It is the best," one source said of the quality of drug-ring's marijuana. "They called regular marijuana 'Grandma.' "

More than 80 agents were involved in the raids. Drug Enforcement Administration agents have seized computers containing the records of 50,000 phone calls in the past six months. The network's members meticulously kept track of their clients, their orders, and the delivery locations, according to court records.

The network has been in operation since 1999 and is one of at least four in the metropolitan area that have been under investigation for "door-to-door" home delivery of marijuana.

The multimillion-dollar organization bragged over federal wiretaps that its clientele included professional athletes, entertainment figures and other high-profile professionals, according to sources familiar with the case.

The sources were reluctant to identify the high-profile clients named on wiretaps because they are not sure that some of them might have been mentioned just as a way of boasting.

But a team of federal agents has been going over the actual telephoned orders seized during the recent arrests to determine who were the actual customers, the sources said.

The reputed head of the network, John Nebel, 33, who has homes in Rosedale and Bay Shore, was arraigned Monday in federal District Court in Central Islip on charges of distributing large quantities of drugs.

He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of at least 10 years in prison and as much as life, according to federal sentence guidelines.

Nebel and a dozen alleged members of the network who have been arrested in the past week have been held without bail after arraignment before federal Magistrate Arlene Lindsay.

Nebel's attorney, Douglas Burns of Garden City, declined to comment yesterday. Federal officials also declined to comment on the case.

The Cartoon Network was a highly structured operation, with a network of suppliers, managers and couriers, according to court records.

The managers operated a daily call center, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., in which customers would identify themselves using the code-word 'cartoon.'" The location of the call center shifted weekly among rooms in Long Island and in New York hotels.

i knew people directly affected by this awfull event. It turned my circut of friends from piecefull mellow kind people into paranoid sketch balls. and the reason the herb cost so much was because... well have you ever tried to get chronic in nyc? you just sit on your ass as it is very while the network handles the rest.and the herb was better than any ive smoked in our much more progressive neighbor to the south bumbass. i lived in vermont and saw all this shit ruin lives. my best friend at the time was supplying the network. he was childhood friends with all the leaders of the organization. i went to his childs batmitsfah and met the leaders of the network over a cone of sour diesal. my stoned point is everyone should be outraged at the demise of great people who where providing a much needed service to the needy patients of NYC. GROW A PLANT!!!!!

The governments, both state and federal make much more money off of keeping drugs illegal. How you ask? Prisons! 90% of the people in jail are there for drugs. Drugs are the governments way to sedate the libidos of people with inactive federally repressed sex lives. Drugs are also a device that the government uses to keep minorities in jail, thus keeping the status quo in tact. Prisons are big business, and lend to mindstate of law enforcement and patriotism. Two books that I highly reccomend everyone to read are: The Function of The Orgasm by Dr. Wilhelm Reich, and The Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley. This whole adgenda streches back to the early 1930's. If drugs were legalized the government agencies like the CIA and DEA would be forced to expose their ties to countries where they import all the drugs from. That will never happen. Why do think that coke make such a strong resurrgence once GWB came into office? It's like "Do coke, vote for Goerge Bush". I'm willing to bet that the laws dealing with coke trafficing are less stringently enforced under republican rule than marijuana. Then theres the issue of where do patients with the legal right to smoke in states that have legalized get their producrt from? IT has to be attained illegally. There is a huge loophole here, and it is still very unclear just hwat is, and is not legal. Mr. Nebel I would presume wasn't pushing government backed product and was thusly punished very severley.

And just remember that you were not only paying retail for bud that was EXTREMELY expensive wholesale ($7000 a pound) but for the packaging, lottery ticket, and to supplement the cost of the runners who brought it to your apartment safely and with no risk. You can't double up on your investment if you look at the math, so already Cartoon violated the industry rule of "Buy for 1, Sell for 2."

Now in no way am I implying that we should be against our government, a country without a government is not a country at all. Im simply asking that we open our eyes to what our country has evolved into, which I am sorry to say is a money hungry corporate America that no longer looks to its’ people but instead looks to itself to decide for the people. I just have one question. I just finished watching the documentary "Grass" and I must say I found it to be extremely informative. But my question is; where exactly in our line of history was it that we as a people, and I use that term in the most stern of fashions, handed over our right as human beings to decide for ourselves what is and is not right and wrong to do. Is this not the very thing all of our ancestors fought with their lives to remedy? I mean, I feel that if the government were to just ask the people instead of so half-hazardly deciding for us, they would see that we ARE a voice to be recond with. The government throws tens and hundreds of billions of dollars every decade, at what they say is and always has been the biggest problem with society in history, but these very pupet masters are the creators of the so called problem. And I would like to ask those very political icons how it is they know for a fact that marijuana is the problem, when there has never really been a chance for a relaxed approach at this subject? Every deficit in our countries history could have been at least somewhat avoided had the amount of funds not gone tward a civil battle that has allways been fueled on propaganda and out right fear induced tactics. In every generation there has been some sort of threat linked with smoking marijuana, a threat so keenly used to scare the public into swaying any whichway the government chooses. War is PROFITABLE! Wheather it be abroad or on our own streets. But the biggest problem is that it is not profiting us as a people it is only profiting the ones that claim to be speaking for the people. Now in realizing this, we have to ask ourselves is it really the fault of the government, or is it instead a fault of our own for allowing our government to subdue us into doing whatever they say?

and by the way anyone who would pay $100 for two measly grams of pot is probably guilty of not just smoking pot but huffing gas because they're morons. i could care less how good it is, i don't care how many cannabis cups it has won. pot shouldn't be expensive to begin with. no matter how potent it is, the only reason pot of any grade is as expensive as it currently is, is because of the drug war. when my dad and mom were still married they were paying $70 bucks a kilo for acapulco gold and other high quality strains of times past. even if the buds were full of seeds much of it was still of very high quality. after all even cannabis cup winners started out as bag seed. heck the very first cup winner skunk #1 has mexican genes in it. as does Haze and Trainwreck. but even around where i live for a hundred or more dollars you can get a whole ounce of kind buds and not two fucking grams. even though if you ask me that's still way too much to pay for ganja. join NORML and get active, it's time this insanity stop, especially considering the fact that cannabis is less toxic than alcohol and tobacco and both of those things are legal, taxed and regulated.

How many people out there would love to tune into a nationaly telivised debate between; any educated canibis enthusiast, and our obviously briliant president, who we all know speaks to us personaly and not just off of a piece of stationary placed in front of him? I really think that would be an event to remember. If we could only be given the chance to spread the truth nationaly. I mean if you don't want to watch it, fine, don't tune in. That was a sad sight to see. Murduring in the name of who? God? I think not. Violence is a dis-ease. Murder is a crime no matter who is responsible. The poor guys that were shot were just trying to make a buck, and coward usa airforce pilots killed all the guys in the area. Scary really. Our government is totally dropping the ball on this one. Any of you who might have taken any economics will recognize this as classic Law of Supply and Demand. Prices are set at whatever the market will bear. Someone managed to get it priced at $50 a gram...and the Feds think that it would be stupid to tax it! Look at the kind of money they're passing up...we could be eliminating our deficit a lot faster that way.

Every time money is spent on black market drug trading it takes money out of circulation from our country. If we just tax and regulate, we could easily keep a lot more in the loop, and not have to spend so much money fighting a senseless drug war when we can't get the spent money back. Still, we spend billions of dollars a year trying to pretend we can keep drugs out of the country.

Let's just legalize them all and deal with the fact that they're here! Drug use is not drug abuse, and addiction is not a problem for the justice system, it's a problem for the medical system.

ok guys here's the deal with nyc, diesels go for 480-600 an oz. any really high grade and dank stuff goes for 500 and up. 20 gets u .7 of a gram, and 50 gets you 3 20's. u want dirt? 150oz . pound of diesels anywhere from 6000 and up. that's the deal with nyc. ppl pay this too every single day no joke. not like pot is legal out here when good pot comes in to ny it goes for any price.

Back when I used to put down cash with friends to buy herb...The section of the black market that was most convenient to us (suburban students) when we were searching for what the federal fuckheads like to call "kb" or "hydro" the going rate was generally a gram for 20/////3.5 for 50/////OZ for 300....

Tons of fluctuation though...
