Snoop Dogg Pleads Not Guilty To Weapon Possession

Rapper Snoop Dogg entered a not guilty plea Wednesday to a felony charge of possession of a deadly weapon at John Wayne Airport.
Attorney Donald Etra, who appeared on the singer's behalf, waived his client's right to have a hearing -- in which a judge will decide if there is enough evidence for a trial -- within 10 days of arraignment.
Orange County Superior Court Judge Kazuharu Makino set a pretrial hearing for April 5.
The rapper, whose real name is Cordozar Calvin Broadus, went before the judge Dec. 4 for his initial court appearance, but signed a waiver allowing him to skip certain court appearances, at which he would be represented by his lawyer.
Orange County prosecutors charged the Long Beach native last November with felony possession of a dangerous weapon for allegedly trying to bring a banned collapsible police baton aboard a plane at the airport on Sept. 27.
If convicted, the Sherman Oaks resident could face up to three years in prison, according Susan Schroeder of the Orange County District Attorney's Office.
Meanwhile, no charges have been filed against the rapper in connection with two arrests in Burbank in October and November, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.
Broadus was arrested Oct. 26 at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a gun and transportation of marijuana, and released on $35,000 bail.
That was followed with an arrest Nov. 28 on suspicion of illegal possession of a firearm, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana for sale and possession of a false compartment in a vehicle when Burbank police
served a search warrant stemming from the earlier airport arrest in Burbank.
He posted $60,000 bail in that case.
