Nelson Risks Jail To Promote Marijuana

Fri, Nov 30, 2007 3:07 pm

Share |

-
Country music legend Willie Nelson has risked being thrown in jail by appearing on the cover of pro-marijuana magazine High Times, holding the drug.

In September last year, the 74-year-old singer was fined and given six months probation after being found guilty of possession of large amounts of marijuana.

But it has not stopped him supporting the drug and those who use it. As well as gracing the magazine's cover, Nelson has performed at a recent Texas benefit concert for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML).

A probation officer has told the New York Daily News Nelson is unlikely to land in trouble because of the picture of him holding the drug, however.

Dec 19 2007, 7:05 pm

they put the elastic clause in the consitution for a reson and they also allow one branch to enturpret w/e they want in it becuase there is no civil libertys and nothings guarenteed,i say let um pot heads just dont get caught or be stupid its that simple, do we realy want taxes on the leagal shit, or dealers gettin busted still becuase there selling it cheaper then the goverment, its gonna be the same thing, people are still gonna get cuaght up in complexed regulations becuase thats how the goverment runs its a beurocracy

Ron Paul 2008

Dec 6 2007, 8:31 pm

Most of the candidates in both parties, besides Ron Paul, are PROMOTING the erosion of civil liberties. They want to continue this fight against terrorism; and to do this, they want to take away YOUR civil liberties. These people like wiretaps, secret prisons, and creating a climate of fear. For those of you who support Hillary, you should know she is being sued right now in California for massive campaign finance fraud.

If you want the truth and you want the ability to search for the truth, vote for Ron Paul. Besides, Ron Paul supports your right to smoke marijuana.

does Willie Nelson support rron PAUL? or?

Dec 5 2007, 6:53 pm

well, i'm officially convinced that you're an absolute fool.

it's ok. there are lots of you.

Ron Paul guy:

Dec 5 2007, 1:36 pm

Some of us believe that a woman's right to choose is an absolute right and should be part of the constitution (as it currently is) - not a state's rights issue. It'd be like saying "I'm not against women's suffrage, I just think each state should decide if a woman should be allowed to vote." It's insane. It's also a devious way to convince people that one is tolerant of issues when in fact they're working to erode civil liberties. And either you fell for it, or you're attempting to pull the same wool over people's eyes.

Secondly, you think the UN threatens our sovereignty? Really? Are you friggen kidding? Isn't this like the paranoid, archaic belief once held that if a catholic were elected president the country would be run by the pope? Again, you're promoting fallacious thinking.

Perhaps you should educate yourself.

write1forME

Dec 5 2007, 12:45 pm

Pro Musician - look it up! It's a definition. It's not a "belief" that you put faith into. It's what it is in its purest form. Which is what Willie is. It is where rock music comes from. Haven't you ever been to a few Willie Nelson concerts?

TO OKAY WOW cont.

Dec 4 2007, 7:02 pm

Also, Ron Paul does not want to "dissolve" the U.N. He does want to pull America out of the U.N. though. not because he wants to stop communicating with other countries, but because it threatens our sovereignty.

educate yourself properly and you'll see that RP is the only candidate running that is not trying to destroy this nations sovereignty.

TO OKAY WOW

Dec 4 2007, 6:56 pm

you asked "Why would Paul seek to overturn Roe v Wade?"

he would do this, NOT because he is against the right to choose, but because Roe vs. Wade makes abortion a federal issue. Ron Paul does not think abortion should be banned outright. This is lie told by anti-Paul people.

What Ron Paul wants to do is make abortion a states rights issue, that should be decided on a state by state basis because he thinks the federal government has no business telling you what to do. period.

Ron Paul was on "The View" 12-4-2007 and talked about this if you really want to hear it from the horse's mouth. youtube search it.

I HOPE THIS CLEARS UP ANY MISUNDERSTANDINGS.

Sorry guy , you're wrong .
Please consult a MUSICIAN before asserting your BELIEVES.
Willy is cool though ....

Okay, Wow:

Dec 4 2007, 1:59 pm

I think you're missing the point. Or you're just pro-life (which doesn't necessarily make you a douche, but please, just come out and say you're pro-life instead of saying there are more important things to think about and/or "learn to use birth control")

Abortion is a constitutional right. Isn't the constitution what Ron Paul claims to respect more than other candidates? Then why would Paul would seek to overturn Roe v Wade and abolish a woman's right to choose? (He also supports dissolving the friggen UN - don't we currently have a president who's not exactly crazy about diplomacy and open discussions with other countries?)

Allowing the fear mongering and confusion tactics the current government has used on the population over the past 7 years to blur your judgment to the point where you're ready to concede a constitutional right because you're caught up with other issues is not just ridiculous but cowardly.

Come out and say you're anti-abortion or don't pitch Ron Paul. It's that simple. Don't hide behind the BS the republican party has CREATED.

wow...

Dec 4 2007, 1:27 pm

"he's a kookoobird"

how old are you? not old enough to vote i'm guessing.

i wouldn't be worried about a candidate's stance on abortion with things like the economy, the wars (in irag and on terror), and illegal immigration to worry about.

abortion rights are the last thing on my mind.

besides... what kind of irresponsible person kills their own baby anyway? learn to use birth control.

Plenty of obgyn's support abortion rights. Ron Paul would repeal Roe Vs. Wade and have women getting illegal abortions on the street. I will never support someone who's against a woman's right to choose. Hilary or Obama in 08 suckas!!!!

Anyone who is pro-choice cannot support Ron Paul. Plus he's a kookoobird.

Willie's a great guy, and if you ever see him live in concert (YOU SHOULD), he's great. If you say you're a rocker then you are missing out on Willie's wicked free form lead guitar jamming. When he's on stage and performing he is as young as he ever was and a professional musician. Remember real rock 'n' roll is a combination of folk, blues AND country! Willie's got it all in him naturally.

There's so many things going on in the world
Babies dying Mothers crying
How much oil is one human life worth
And what ever happened to peace on earth

We believe everything that they tell us
They're gonna' kill us
So we gotta' kill them first
But I remember a commandment
Thou shall not kill
How much is that soldier's life worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

(Bridge) And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liar's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

So I guess it's just
Do unto others before they do it to you
Let's just kill em' all and let God sort em' out
Is this what God wants us to do

(Repeat Bridge) And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liar's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

Now you probably won't hear this on your radio
Probably not on your local TV
But if there's a time, and if you're ever so inclined
You can always hear it from me
How much is one picker's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

But don't confuse caring for weakness
You can't put that label on me
The truth is my weapon of mass protection
And I believe truth sets you free

(Bridge) And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liar's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

Nelson Risks Jail To Promote Marijuana 2007-11-30
http://www.hightimes.com/ht/news/content.php?bid=758&aid=3

"I think people need to be educated to the fact that marijuana is not a drug. Marijuana is an herb and a flower. God put it here. If He put it here and He wants it to grow, what gives the government the right to say that God is wrong?"
Willie Nelson - Musician, Biodiesel Entrepreneur

"The biggest killer on the planet is stress and I still think the best medicine is and always has been cannabis."
Willie Nelson - Musician, Biodiesel Entrepreneur

"We grew it to rig the great New England sailing ships, traveled west in Conestoga wagons covered in hemp, dressed in homespun hemp cloth when we got there and wound up wearing hemp jeans. We tied our cargo with hemp rope and fed the poultry with hemp seed. We used hemp to help develop this country.'

I am 62 years old and took two tokes of a joint supplied by a pothead friend when I was 25 years old. I didn't like it, but I guess lots of people do. I have read many articles about pot(pro and con),and have arrived at the conclusion that it is not a threshold drug, and is probably much less dangerous than tobacco.
I would much rather work on a construction project with a pothead than with a drunk or cokehead. I do support the legalization of marijuana but think it should be restricted from use by minors, somewhat like tobacco.
If all prisoners convicted of pot related "crimes" were released, we wouldn't have so many overcrowded prisons.

It Really Makes My Mind Boggle When People Who OPPOSE The Legalization And Use Of Marijuana Come To This Website, Are You Fucking Kidding Me? You're Coming To This Website And Speaking Out About It? If Anything, You're Just Making Yourself Look Like An Asshole. Plus You Came To THIS Website, It Didn't Come To You Or Magically Pop Up On Your Screen.

Dec 1 2007, 3:15 pm

I'd like someone to tell me why legalization would be a bad thing. Just like any other physical or mind altering substance, it has different affects on people. In my case, it has become a substitute for anti depressents. I smoke a bowl a night, or even one night a week to relax and collect myself. Close minded people who have tried it are afraid of it because for a couple hours of their life it was almost like they didnt have a large splintery stick up their ass.

The Burning Question: To Smoke or not to smoke. I choose to do the former, rather than the latter. If you understand that, no explanation is necessary, if you do not understand that, then no explanation is possible.

Not only was Carl Sagan a smoker, his wife, Ann Druyan, who co-wrote most of his wonderful monologues ("We are all made from star stuff") is currently on the NORML board of directors.

Other projects that she has been involved in include the selection of the music on the Voyager Golden Record mounted on the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 space probes, and the Cosmos 1 spacecraft, which intended to demonstrate solar sail propulsion.

Marijuana is a gift from mother earth. Some people don't care to smoke it. Some people enjoy smoking it. It's about personal choice. Willie understands this. Why so many people oppose it is beyond me. I don't expect everyone to smoke up, yet, those who don't smoke seem to expect everyone to fall in line and not smoke, either. It makes no sense to me.

Marijuana > Alcohol, Plus Marijuana Doesn't Make You Stupid Or A "Dope." If Anything It Brightens Your Thinking Capabilities Or At Least That's How It Works For Me. It Really Just Depends On How You Let Yourself React To It. But, Willie Nelson Will Always Be For The Legalization Of Marijuana No Matter The Risks. True Advocate.

Let's see...
Drink too much alcohol and die of alcohol poisoning.
Snort too much meth or coke and your heart explodes.
Slam too much heroin and your heart stops.
Smoke too much tree and you get fat from twinkies and doritos and then fall asleep.

Here's to sparking the owl !!

I was a recreational user until a month ago for a few years. I'd come home from work, light a nice bowl and relax, then rush around the house cleaning and getting things done. It was a nice routine and allowed me to compile my thoughts and just shake off the day without feeling like I was trying to escape reality. It's a plant, not some magic voodoo brain eraser.

It's about how you choose to live your life and if it makes you happy to lay around eating crap and listening to Phish, then hey, it's your choice, but to say that "oh they call it dope, dur" is just a perpetuated stereotype that means absolutely squat.

I don't consider myself brilliant or anything but usage =/= lack of intellect. If you want to make some argument about over abusing it, just look at all the lovely functioning alcoholics and cigarette fiends. We need more people like Mr Nelson out there willing to lay it out on the line for us. Thank you very much.

A-Ron

Nov 30 2007, 9:26 pm

Sure there are lots of dopes that smoke dope. There are also lots of very intelligent people that use it. Spend some time in academia and you'll soon realize there's a fair amount of pot users that also happen to have phds.

While I support legalization, and think spending tax dollars to fight Marijuana is ridiculous, I'm reminded of one factor that has kept me a non-user for 35 years:

They don't call it "dope" because it makes you smarter...

More power to him. Get it leagalized and taxed. Use the money for child health care.

Legalize hemp growing in U.S., too. Many byproducts. Ask Canada for info. They're cashing in big time on hemp and can be used for biofuel, too.

To answer your question "The truth", its almost not about getting hi with people or for social reasons, unless pressured. You truly meet your mind after smoking good pot. You learn to truly find your talents, goals and other aspirations in life. Its just about having a good time in the end too. Instead of drinking a beer, you smoke a joint. It not only relaxes you, but it brings you back to "the main level", where all is good, and peace of mind.
