Canna Zine: "Giuliani Wrong on Marijuana"

Sat, Dec 08, 2007 2:19 pm

source: pr-usa.net

A team of scientists in London, have categorically disproven the claims of Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani that "marijuana has no use in medicine." Giuliani, on the campaign trail in New Hampshire this week, has stated many times in public, that marijuana has no use to medicine.

At a town hall meeting in New Hampshire earlier in the year, he said, "marijuana has no additive medical benefit of any kind", and he cemented his viewpoint by saying "legalizing medical marijuana is just a pre-cursor to the outright legalization of cannabis, and nothing more."

But scientists from Queen Mary's School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, have devised a method of harnessing the pain relieving qualities of cannabis, whilst controlling the psychoactive effects of the plant - the "high", disproving the claims of Mayor Giuliani once and for all.

The team of scientists, led by Prof Maurice Elphick and Dr Michaela Egertová, explain in their research paper this week how a new protein called a 'cannabinoid receptor interactive protein' mimics the affect of THC.

It does this by suppressing the brain's cannabinoid receptors.

It 'fools' the brain into generating more of the cannabinoids that exist normally, delivering the beneficial effects without getting 'stoned.'

"There has always been a hope that it would be possible to use the effects of the drug medicinally," explained Prof Elphick.

"But as there is only one type of receptor that 'connects' with THC, you get the pain relief, but also the 'high'."

"Now, things have taken a dramatic step forward."

Listen to the experts
Doctors, scientists and medical patients, have long known of the beneficial qualities of the much maligned cannabis plant.

But politicians, law-makers and law-enforcers alike, have simply ignored the findings of the medical experts, as well as the cannabis consuming patients themselves, who have reported a higher quality of life since being able to use marijuana as living medicine.

In light of these new findings from London, it would be a great gesture if one of the Republican candidates so dead set against medical marijuana, (John McCain and Mitt Romney also oppose medical marijuana with every ounce of their being, along with Giuliani), were to recognize this research and admit they were wrong.

Black or Red
Either that, or accept the challenge set by a marijuana reform organization in Washington (Marijuana Policy Project), which offers a legal maximum $10,000 dollar campaign donation to the candidate who proves his own theories on medical marijuana.

So far, only Texas Republican candidate Dr Ron Paul, overtly supports the prescription of medical cannabis.

But with literally millions of cannabis consuming voters eagerly awaiting the presidential primary's at the start of 08, thats a position which is sure to change.

I wonder about that too, if cannabinoids are created but the receptors are suppressed, then I'd guess that it'd be harder to feel 'em,. also i'll just mention that Marinol, the "synthetic thc" isn't good enough for medical marijuana because it only has delta 9 THC, while smoking marijuana gives a wide range of cannabinoids including delta 8 THC, therefor Marinol will never be as effective as smoking or vaporizing marijuana.

What did i walk in on? Stay on topic people. So according to this, they made something that suppresses the part of the brain that feels or connects to natural "cannabinoids" that our brain makes, and in response the brain makes more, causing levels of cannabinoids to rise. Do they want to use this as an alternative to just smoking or vaporizing cannabis? Two questions come to mind, first, wouldn't suppressing the THC receptors result in not feeling the THC? Second, doesn't this mean that the brain needs cannabis to function properly?

Again , you're wrong .
"you're trying way to hard to look like a winner " ? Winner of what ?
"then tried to shift blame to democrats "
Facts have no party lines .
"going off topic to attack me "
You haven't been attacked .
"I think I've made my comments on this story clear enough that I won't come back "
Yes , I'd agree with that ..both times .

I repeat , you are a drama queen . If "winning " is what you're all about then you can have this one . Happy now ? :O)
HEY EVERBODY , SOME GUY IS THE WINNER !!!!! I hope this satisfies you ?

you are trying way too hard to look like a winner, your proving yourself wrong with everything your saying, and repeating what I said about you as if it were about me. for example, you didnt notice that your original needless response was to a Rhetorical question, then tried to shift blame to democrats. weak. then i make a point about how obvious it is that one side is way more corrupt than the other, just by naming a few of the people who got caught or had interesting story's to tell, and comparing it to the only example on the other side i could think of, and saying "If you want to call that just as bad i can't stop you from being wrong". I also said in that same post that You didnt back up your statements, so dont lie saying i never gave you a chance to clarify. Your the one bitching at me for posting something, and your the one who doesnt realize this isn't some chat room, its a News story that people can comment on, which i did, but you seem to want to attack the messenger, going way off topic to attack me, i defend my point a little, and you keep coming back to attack me "you're just bitching at the first person to offer a different opinion", That what You're doing. Basicly just lazily posting a "your crazy" without saying how im wrong, exept for that weak "when the dems were running things" sentence, when was that? i can't remember. But have you seen what the former republican majority was doing? care to compare? I'll say this just once more, i wasn't asking you a question in my first, second or third posts, but you didn't care, you just want to discredit my opinions and attack the messenger, that, sir, is uncalled for and speaks to your charicter. I do not expect a response because this isn't your email or a chat room. i think i've made my comments on this story clear enough that i wont have to come back, unless of course my opinions are distorted by your attack's after im gone. Happy new year everyone!

I see . All you're doing is looking for somebody to bitch at ? Ok , lets break your last post down to its bare components ..
"next you're gonna say im Bush bashing " ..nope , sorry.
"so corruption is suddenly ok " .. nobody said anything that even sounds like that .
"You're probably one of those Blame Clinton for everything republicans" ..
Sorry , wrong again .
"the kind of brainless mutant i desribed earlier " I will defer on that comment as you appear to be the only one with knowledge on that subject .
"you just couldn't wait to bash me " .. That WOULD be easy , but , wrong again .
Conclusion : You are a drama queen and assume waaaay to much . You're not asking me to clarify my statement , you're just bitching at the first person to offer a different opinion .
I really don't mind though .

Jan 2 2008, 8:22 am

"they people in office are always the targets", what's next, you gonna say im "bush bashing" for saying the war was wrong? "the corruption you speak of is buisness as usual in DC" yeah, buisness as usual, so corruption is suddenly ok if it been going on for a while, like saying "people die all the time, so it's ok if i kill this hooker" or "yeah, I'll lie under oath, i lied to my wife yesterday, no big deal". oh, and just because bill clinton didn't take his chances with a republican congress to try to get pot legal doesn't mean that no democrat will. You're probably one of those "Blame Clinton for everything" Republicans who thinks every news station exept fox is biased(its the other way around). "Should a democrat win this time, pay attention..." to what? some random attack ad or slanted news story from rupert murdochs propaganda empire? gimme a break. oh and if your going to quote me then get it right. also you dont seem to back up your statements, you just try to sound cool with things like "you do realize... right? or do you?", "a pack of democrats looking to make honesty points". You obviously can't produce even one original thought in these posts, even in your answer to a RHETORICAL QUESTION. you just couldn't wait to bash me even with nothing to say on the topic. see what they make you do? You are the kind of person i was taking about in my first post, the kind of brainless mutant i described earlier. thanks for proving you exist. also, my first few posts were too long, over 2000 letters so i couldnt take the time to explain further what i was talking about. truth is usually more complicated than lies anyway, so it takes longer.

"I can stop you from being wrong "

Really ? What did the Democrats do to legalize weed the last time they were in power ?

"maybe you need to take another look "

Maybe you need take another look ...back when the Dems were running things . Most of the corruption you speak of is business as usual in DC brought to light by a pack of Democrats looking to make honesty points . However , they only shot themselves in the foot 'cause THEY can't do it now either .
They people in office are always the targets . Should a Democrat win this time , pay attention .....
I can't stop you from being wrong if you really set on it .

Jan 1 2008, 12:27 pm

Really? you think both sides are the same? you dont think that maybe one side is WAY more corrupt than the other? maybe you just need to take another look, on one side, jack abramov, alberto gonzles, trent lott, tom delay, larry craig, karl rove, dick chainy(i know, spelled wrong), lobbyists and the people behind cannabis being Illegal,... on the other side... hang on i'm thinking... ... ... that guy who took some money from an officer posing as a lobbyist and put it in his freezer, although he never actually took money before, and he was only being investigated because the department of justice was corrupt and Only invesigated democrats, until one finally took the bait, after that everytime someone talked about republican corruption on tv, the republican just reads his talking point saying "Well, maybe, but democrats are just as bad, see? he had money in his freezer!" if you want to call that just as bad i can't stop you from being wrong. maybe im overreacting a little, maybe you meant something else when you said that "it's not just republicans", but you didn't really say what you meant.

...yep , since the beginning of civilization about damn near every aspect of their lives .

"julyanne (Giuliani) and the other republicanss " / " mindless robotic republicans " .. you do realize its not just the republicans ..right ? or do you ?

I might be stoned but...

Dec 31 2007, 9:07 am

Did he really say that? Julieanne thinks that "marijuana has no additive medical benefit of any kind" ?? and said "Legalizing medical marijuana is Just a pre-cursor to the outright legalization of cannabis, and Nothing more." NOTHING MORE?? You Jackass, we are trying to help people with horrible diseases and ailments that Rx poisons can't fix, and also, Cannabliss used to be as common in medicine as Asprin is today!! seriously, they put it in everything because they know it's good for you, hell recently science proved it helps stop cancer in mice! And yet You say its nothing more than a fad, a scam to "trick" people into legalizing cannabis, or should I say RElegalizing cannabis because it wasn't always illegal, hell the laws are less than 100 years old! if you look hard you might find an old person to tell you about when it wasn't illegal, and all the misinformation that was thrown at them like the movie "Reefer Madness". the same kind of misinformation that is still being fed to us today thru the mouths of these mindless robotic republicans who are clearly following orders to keep their minds closed and do what they're told no matter what anyone else says or what the facts are. It makes me sick to see that people still follow him, can people really be controlled like sheep to only think how they're told to think, and fight to defend the lie against the truth and truth tellers without ever giving it second thoughts? are people really that easy to trick? julyanne and the other republican scumbags hope so, it seems, that's been their game for a while now, and it make's me want to puke, right into his breakfast, then tell him if medical marijuana was legal i could control my vomiting better.

I'd rather eat a medicated brownie, too ease my back pain, than a handfull of vicodin. The fucked up reality is that the vicodin, is cheaper and easier to score than the weed. As far as getting high is concerned; I get a better buzz off the pharmacuticles than I do the weed. Only differance is that eating cannabis works better, and does'nt make my nose go numb.

Why is 5kgs of Cocaine gets you 10 yrs but 1kg of POT gets you a life sentence after the 3rd strike?

Now why are we paying these stupid old fucks to fuck up our lives.

Maybe we should be supplying cocaine instead of taking a huge risk to just supply ourselves and a few good friends.

I Finally Convinced Myself To Look Into Ron Paul, So After Several Hours Of Looking At Some Of His Points I Think He's On The Right Track To Setting The Standards Straight For The Federal Government. He's Also All About People's Own Rights, Which Is Pretty Critical. 'Wanna Stick A Needle In Your Arm? Alright, Just Don't Do Something Ridiculous That'll Get You Thrown In The Slammer Cause You Want Your Quick Fix.' I Recommend Looking Into Ron Paul, He's Got Me Convinced Things Will Change.

T-the-pharmacist

Dec 9 2007, 2:15 pm

I get very angry when public figures with absolutely no background in pharmacology start declaring what does and does not work. Here are the facts as I know them.
-Cannabinoid Receptors out number all other G-proteins in the body
-They are found all throughout the brain and rostral ventral medulla
-The rostral ventral medulla is a primary pain pathway in the body, and activating the cannibinoid receptors with delta-9-tetrahydrocanabinol (a weak partial agonist) can cause pain relief via a different pathway than opioid pain relief
-Lastly it is proven as an effective glaucoma medication through its ability to decrease IOP (intra ocular pressure)

-So the severely ignorant politicians claiming that it has no medical use are completely wrong

Tommy5677

Dec 9 2007, 1:29 pm

So what if you get high for pain relief. You get high with Morphine which is an opiod. Have they taken the high out of that. This drug can also be used for illicit purposes, like heroin for example. It's potential for abuse in general is huge. Doesn't everybody yet, realize what a moron Giuliani is? God if we elect any of the Republicans running, we are doomed and the world will know we're a nation of idiots.
