Patriots Defensive Back Charged with Marijuana Possession in Lowell

Wed, Feb 06, 2008 11:46 am

source: boston.com

A New England Patriots defensive back and special teams player was arrested in Lowell this morning and charged with possession of marijuana and for driving an unregistered car, according to the office of Middlesex District Attorney Gerard T. Leone Jr.

Willie Andrews was stopped by Lowell police around 9:30 a.m. on Middlesex Street. Andrews was arraigned this afternoon in Lowell District Court and pleaded not guilty to drug possession. Prosecutors said he had $6,800 in cash, three bags of marijuana, and no means to smoke the drugs.

Andrews is 24 years old and has been on the team for the last two seasons, having arrived from Baylor University after being chosen in the seventh round of the 2006 draft, according to the team's website.

The investigation into Andrews was triggered by an anonymous call to Lowell Police at 9:30 a.m. today, reporting that there was a Ford Crown Victoria with tinted windows in the neighborhood that could be involved in drug activity, Lowell Police Deputy Superintendent Bob DeMoura said in a telephone interview.

Responding officers spotted the car, discovered that it was not properly registered, and pulled it over as it was heading away from the neighborhood, he said. “The officers approached the driver and they could smell what they believed was marijuana,’’ DeMoura said. The driver, identified by police as Willie Andrews of Mansfield, was charged with marijuana possession and operating an unregistered car.

DeMoura said the incident occurred in the Lowell neighborhood known as the Acre, but he said it was not a section of the city where drug activity is prevalent. “It’s not an area where we are frequently sending people over to make drug arrests,’’ he said.

The Patriots on Sunday lost the Super Bowl to the New York Giants. Had they won, today would have been the day for the parade in Boston celebrating their victory.

The Patriots declined to comment specifically on Andrews' arrest.

"The conduct of our players is very important to the New England Patriots," spokesman Stacey James said in a statement. "As is our policy, team discipline will be handled internally."

Andrews completed his second year with the Patriots, spending time on special teams return and coverage units. He scored his first NFL touchdown in October on a 77-yard kickoff return against the Miami Dolphins.
Andrews is due back in court March 18 for a pretrial conference.

would you knock it off with this moronic peanut crap? The "puppets at HT" already have a mail something to your representatives on 4/20 campaign. It's called the 4/20 campaign. But instead of randomly mailing peanuts to somebody in government you actually write a letter. I guess the peanut thing is easier for you.

LTS,
Once the ruse is discovered, the Postal Service will simply route all such deliveries to a speedy destruction. These packages will not be sent to the White House. They will simply be x-rayed and destroyed.

We had a Boston Tea Party, now let’s have a Peanut Protest!

4-20-08

Don’t laugh or mock it, just do it!
EVERYBODY who lights up, EVERYBODY who is tired of the gov’t putting their guns in our faces and taking our lives needs to participate!

EVERBODY!

On 4-20-08 we start mailing and we keep mailing until they acquiesce!
It’s not expensive, if we can afford the smoke, we can afford the nuts!

Why wait for the puppets at HT or NORML and the host of others who fight more for our money than our cause? Remember last years TV show, Jericho, which was cancelled? The fans got it renewed by bombarding those who cancelled it with peanuts, after the last line of the last show. What if we mailed millions of bags of peanuts to the white house? Lets freak out some politicians! It’s peaceful, it’s legal and there is not a damn thing they can do about it or, once started, stop, without ending prohibition first! Isn’t it time we did something besides acquiesces to their rules and play the voting game sham?

The rules:

1) Make the 'return' address the same as the 'send to' address. This forces them to deliver because they can't return the package to it's origin. If the white house refuses to accept the peanuts, the post office must contend with it. Which means the white house has to deal with it anyway.

2) Make the package half a pound, no more than one pound. We want lots of packages, not one big one!

3) Write in big letters 'END MJ PROHIBITION!' on the package.

4) Use ONLY the US postal service. Bringing the postal system to a grinding halt will help make the point! No point punishing UPS and the like.

5) Spread this around! Get everyone involved!

6) Ignore any protests of how terrorists can make use of it. Politicians have been ignoring us without concern for our safety. If they force us to live in fear, them let them join us at the table and share in the meal they prepared!
