Juror Discharged for Smoking Cannabis at Court

A JUROR from Crewe has been discharged from a rape case after being caught smoking cannabis in crown court toilets.

In the incident the suspicion of visiting police in Chester Crown Court was aroused after they smelled cannabis smoke coming from the building’s public toilets.

The 46-year-old male juror was discovered inside smoking a cannabis ‘joint’ and was immediately arrested.

He was brought back up to Court Three and discharged from his jury duty by the presiding judge, Judge Stephen Clarke, and cautioned by police.

Vincent Burke, spokesman for Her Majesty’s Court Service, said: “We can confirm that a juror was discharged from duty at Chester Crown Court after being caught smoking cannabis in the toilets.

“We take this matter very seriously. Anyone discovered possessing or taking drugs in the court building will be dealt with by police.”

I doubt you can even smoke cigarettes indoors in the UK, so the whole "excercising his rights" thing doesn't really hold a lot of water. The reason people can't smoke anything inside public buildings in the first place is that other people who choose not to smoke don't wanna have to deal with the smell or smoke floating around.

Secondly, I don't know if this guy is a bastard or not but he sure was dumb. Unless he was trying to make some kind of political statement by smoking a jay on the john...which I don't get at all..

The poster below suggests that exercising ones' freedom makes them a "dumb bastard"? Thats pretty harsh. In fact, most of you all sound like big meanies. Shame on you. If the shoe was on the other foot, I believe you may think differently. And don't EVEN say you never imbibed in a public place EVER in your life, cause saying so would make you out to be fibbing. Slater- I'm with Senso. I came here to say the same thing, if you're going to be sneaky, use a sneak a toke of some kind, exhale through a wad of toilet paper, don't light a big fat stick of pot incense (a joint) and think a toilet stall is going to keep anyone from noticing....
As for getting charged with posession of paraphernalia, that only happens if you get caught.

come to Canada man, here, they wouldn't have arrested the guy, they would have given him shit that he wasn't in court hearing the case. There's no law saying you automatically get arrested for smoking a joint in Canada.

Dude, thast a fucking terrible idea. Then he would have had possesion charges as well as drug paraphenelia.
Though smoking a court house is a bad idea, smoking a J would be the least inconspicous way to do it. Smoke it, drop roach in toilet, flush, then they never have any evidence on you, im sure thats what this guy was planning.

Yeah, he shouldnt have smoked the J in the court house. But being there (Against your will) and having to deal with a rape case, damn, I would have needed a J myself, I cant handle stuff like that, weak stomach.
