Hundreds protested for pot on the steps of the capitol today. A "cannabis crusade" came calling on Texas lawmakers Saturday, calling for the legalization of marijuana.
The south steps of the state capitol were the scene of the protest.
Participants argued that the medical use of marijuana is justified because it can help relieve the pain and nausea that accompany certain medical conditions -- despite a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision against legal medical use.
CBS 42's Rebecca Taylor reports some were also calling for the legalization of marijuana for recreational use.
The protest and march were sponsored by the Texas Chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML).

We marched about 300 deep from Zilker Park to our State Capitol. 75% of all cars we passed honked and showed heavy support. About 1/3 of the people we passed on foot, joined our march.
Our concert on the South Steps lasted about three hours and included moving words from Miss High Times 2007 and Bruce Fox, NORML legal advisory board member. We also had a eight talented Texas bands play all day long at The Capitol and Zilker Park.
The success of our event depended completely on us. We had virtually no outside support, save for a few donations. So next year on May 2nd, perhaps we will get some outside support to make this bigger and bigger every year.
My only gripe is that KEYE had their own spin on our story before they ever showed up to the event. They were very selective in who they spoke to, and even then very selective with which quotes they used in the story. While our main focus in hosting the Texas Cannabis Crusade was to inform the public on the subject of industrial hemp and medical cannabis, we do believe in the recreational use of cannabis. It was not our focus for this event, but that's all the KEYE folks wanted to hear about.
We do appreciate the fact that KEYE was the only TV station in town to cover the story, even though every station received our press release. However, we would appreciate if the folks over at KEYE could learn to spell "Cannabis." It was written on our podium for God's sake!
All in all we are very happy with the turnout and the positive impact the event had on the state's opinion of cannabis.
Props go to the Daily Texan, who used our story on the cover page and included lots of viable facts. KEYE, where were your facts?
OK.
I am done. If anyone has any questions for me, or you would like to become a sponsor for next year's event, please contact me at Hector at outgrowbigbro.org.
Danks for the support!

We are a nation of revolutionaries, founded on the idea of revolting against unnecessary repression and control.
Which state will be our champion? The correct answer SHOULD be; ALL OF THEM.
