McCain Supports Warrantless Domestic Surveillance

Wed, Jun 04, 2008 6:43 pm

Source: slashdot.org

"While there have been shifting reports about McCain's view on warrantless wiretapping, nothing could be clearer than the latest comment by McCain adviser Doug Holtz-Eakin, who said, 'We do not know what lies ahead in our nation's fight against radical Islamic extremists, but John McCain will do everything he can to protect Americans from such threats, including asking the telecoms for appropriate assistance to collect intelligence against foreign threats to the United States as authorized by Article II of the Constitution.' Article II, of course, is what Bush has argued gives the President virtually unlimited power during war, and McCain has already voted in favor of Telecom Immunity, though he sometimes mentions wanting to holding hearings about what the telecoms did to those asking for accountability."

The rules ARE very clear . The possibility of abuse is no more a factor than with anything else .
The people complaining about this are the same people who bitched about not knowing about 911 and all the shit that came with it . You can't have it both ways . ...Unless they just want to bitch , and if thats the case , nothing will satisfy anyway . Don't give any merit to bullshit that doesn't deserve it .

I believe it was the great Benjamin Franklin who said something like "Those who would give up civil liberties for safety deserve neither."

Also, to those of us who make particular phone calls or texts on occasion, be careful about what phone company you use. Some companies will whore your phone records out to the government with no probable cause at all.

"McCain supports warrantless domestic surveillance " ?
Thats not true and is stupid .
I recently saw another stupid headline that said:
"McCain is against Child Safety "
It was another special interest group trying to take away our right to own firearms .
What ever happened to responsible journalism ?

and for all you people fixing to say "its people like you that blah blah blah " keep this in mind : I make the same starements when Obama or anyone else is hyped out of reason .

I honestly think that American's would rather vote for the Drug Lord from the Juarez Cartel then vote for John McCain.
The Drug Lord would probably legalize, and he could probably briing America out of these hard times and kill off some oil people so we could get cheaper oil. John has been in the Senate for A VERY LONG TIME, its his fault we're in this mess to begin with.
Hillary dropped out the other day!
Thank god, fuck that wide ass bitch.

I may have respected John McCain when he was a POW, but now he is just another piece of Washington garbage! The Bush policies will go on for another four years if he gets elected. Police will continue their illegal raids. He will make sure the DEA has full access for spying on Americans, just like they do know. He is no different than Bush! McCain used to be a caring human, but now he is just an evil puppet that George Bush can dangle anyway he wants. Getting Marijuana legalized will never happen if he gets in! That is a fact!

Reality Check

Jun 8 2008, 7:28 am

If you go to "Medical Marijuana ProCon.org" you will find the candidates positions on the issue IN THEIR OWN WORDS .
McCain has never made the statement attributed to him by Slater .

"I try not to research McCain" pretty much says it all .

by the way ..Obama : "the likelihood of that being high on my list is not likely " ..... so much for the "vow" and the "pledge" and all the other hype floating around.

I don't believe McCain is the right man for the job either but that doesn't warrant making stupid assertions and acting like a dumbass about it .
Hang in there , theres plenty of people who you can depend on to tell you what you're supposed to think .

I prefer the facts ..makes it much easier .

hey slater

Jun 8 2008, 5:10 am

Libertarian 4 Legal Weed

Jun 5 2008, 9:31 pm

Vote for Bob Barr. He's for MJ legalization and wants to kill the patriot act (true, he did vote for it, but the Bush Nazis lied to everybody about what they were going to do with their patriot act powers)

The Libertarian party is only on the ballot in 28 states at the moment. Go to the Ballot Initiative - http://www.lp.org/index_ba08.html and see what the status is for your state.

The 2 party system is totally broken. Our only hope for legalization is voting Libertarians into office at all levels of government.

"The fact is: the gov shouldn't be aloud to listen in on our shit reguardless of wether or not they think we're terrorists " ? ...Thats a fact ? Says who ?

The fact is , they aren't "aloud" and don't listen in on your "shit" unless your calling known terrorists .Thats what triggers the surveillance . So if your calling known terrorists , then fuck you anyway .

Reality Check

Jun 5 2008, 3:19 pm

"Warrantless Domestic Surveillance " is the hype term .
The actual name of this program is "FISA" which stands for
Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and monitors known terrorists communication lines . It is also designed to go after these transmissions on a case to case basis depending on the urgency . IE: a warrant is obtained unless the urgency requires action without one .

No innocent citizen has ever been arrested or prosecuted from any info obtained under the FISA program .
And no , McCain isn't for domestic warrantless surveillance .
And no , your garden won't be raided unless your running your mouth anyway .

what?

Jun 5 2008, 5:31 am

McCain isn't the guy for the job .
His stance on MOST of the issues are not what you people claim either .
And as far as the Patriot Act , if a terrorist gets through and accomplishes another attack on our soil , you people will be the first ones crying about it . Failed to know . failed to protect , failed to prevent and was in on it .
You don't know what it takes to accomplish what you all bitch about .
McCain for President ? People were wrong about Bush twice ...................

Republicans like McCain are the real terrorists. They terrorize us with fear. They destroy our rights and our privacy. Vote for Obama. Vote for Democratic Senators and Congressmen (and women). Once they are in, tell them what you want, and don't stop telling them. We need to reinstate the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. There are going to be 2 or 3 Supreme Court openings in the next 4 to 8 years. We cannot allow the Republican party to nominate the next members of the Supreme Court. The United States of America is dead...only We The People can resurrect it.

I agree with wake. Its not that we want the terrorist to not be watched but as Americans we have rights. Men have died just so we can vote and see a judge before we are condemned guilty. Letting them tap whoever for whatever is bullshit and is just like putting cameras in everyones house to make sure they don't do ANYTHING wrong. We need to stop being scared and put a stop to this intolerant asshole gestapo government that thinks taking away all of our rights will stop terrorist. Look up the patriot act and tell me im wrong.

HAHA!
Seeing how my lady neighbor grows it, and sells it to me to help pay her bills because she was in a car accident and the insurence doesnt want to pay her the money they owe her, Im pretty sure my money helps the American people, not the terrorist who recieve their money from the CIA...

He'd much rather keep letting the cubans starve with the usa imposed sanctions. mccain is not a nice man, nor is he intelligent. mccain is a hater. A vote for mccain is a vote for more war on everyone. A vote for mccain is insane.

Wake up man

Jun 4 2008, 8:17 pm

Here is what the big deal is...

There is already a system in place for them to do this shit - it's called see a judge and get a fucking warrant.

No one is saying 'don't tap terrorist phones' - the big deal is that they are tapping _EVERYONES_ phones and deciding what to do with you based on that.

We have rights, we have privacy and we are innocent until proven guilty - fuck them for fucking with my rights. And if you are too scared to appreciate what those rights mean, then you don't deserve them and you are not a good American.

Another thing - you set a precident when you willingly give away rights that good men have died to give you. If they take away or modify our constitional rights now, then the door is open to erode our rights even further in the future.

thats cool

Jun 4 2008, 8:07 pm

I dont see a problem with letting the government prone communication terminals for terrorist activity. Unless smoking pot classifies me as a terrorist, I dont see what all the fuss is about.

"THE MARIJUANA LEAF" POSTER

So you think you have heard every name there is for marijuana? Not yet you haven't! Some are funny, some creative and some are just out there - but what people don't know is that the US Government keeps an official list of all these names. And surprisingly enough, over the years this list has grown to a shocking 647 official "street terms" for marijuana.

Upon discovering this list, LA Pop Art felt a …
