Surfer Finds Sacks of Marijuana Near Del Mar Beach

Sheriff's deputies confiscated about 400 pounds of marijuana Wednesday near a Del Mar beach after a surfer found several bags of the drug and then encountered two men carrying another.

The surfer told deputies he found six burlap sacks about 4 a.m on the east side of the railroad tracks as he was walking to the beach along a trail at the end of 11th Street, sheriff's Sgt. Jack Reynolds said.

As he continued to walk toward the water, he came across two men lugging a seventh sack and he asked what they were doing, Reynolds said.

The men said something in Spanish, dropped what they were carrying and ran. The surfer called deputies, who later found an eighth sack closer to the water, Reynolds said. The sacks were filled with 80 plastic-wrapped bundles of marijuana, Reynolds said.

Investigators believe someone used a boat to drop off the drugs. It is common for smugglers to drop off narcotics at a prearranged point and have someone waiting to pick it up, Reynolds said.

In June 2007, about 70 pounds of marijuana were found on the beach in roughly the same location.

Reynolds said he could not estimate the current street value of the Mexican-grade marijuana, but last year at this time it was selling for about $300 to $400 per pound.

The surfer was not able to give deputies a detailed description of the men because it was dark and foggy at the time.

I live in San Diego, and that shit is common day stuff. I used to work valet in downtown Diego, and I got off work one night and just went to the embarcadero to grab something to eat. And i could see like 3 boats unloading bails just like what they found in Del Mar which is like 15 minutes up the road. Shit happens all the time! I used to surf Imperial Beach in the morning, and on dawn patrols I would always see shady ass fools in the parking lot just waiting on shit. And yea Mexican bud goes for about 350 to $400 dollars the pound, it is really green and smells planty, and has a grip of seeds. Most of it is bound for middle America. It's just not up to grade with the Cali buds. Buttt yea don't be shocked America...there is probably 500 more barrels coming by sea tonight.

I managed to get the tools I needed to build my cloner/
vegetation unit. Have a total of $52 in it,and the most expensive part was the ultrasonic fogger and the hole saw kit
for cutting the (12) 3" holes in the lid. Have to pick up some
vacuum hose tomorrow to makes a bushing because the pots that
I ordered as 3" are like 2 15/16" but the gh 3" fit in the holes great,so next time I'll order gh pots. And finally got my timer so I could let my fogger take a break now. Also picked up my 65k light and that ought to help the rooting.
My biggest plant already has roots hanging just above the soup
and 2 of the others have roots thru the coco cups. Looking
good! STOP the BUY GROW YOUR OWN It's the only way to be sure your not helping the cartels,because they now have people up here,in grow houses,turning out hydro,because like any businessman,they follow the money

I'll start buying American homegrown when growers and dealers stop overcharging. It's simple economics. 99 out of 100 of us are buying the 60-120 dollar mexi-ounces. When I ask "how much" if the reply is in grams I know right away I'm being screwed. I don't think I could relax smoking 500 doallar an ounce herb. Id be too uptight about spending the money when I have bills to pay.

While I occasionaly bump into someone who splurged for some fresh and sticky homegrown, It's pretty rare. Despite the great flavor, nobody want's to pay for it when the mexi gets the job done at 1/4 the cost.

I'm glad to hear so many of you are doing well enough in this economy to afford 500 bucks and upwards for ounces, though. You bunch of rockstars :P
