LOS ANGELES, CA — It started with Cheech and Chong’s “Nice Dreams.” From there we graduated to new heights with “Dazed and Confused,” then covertly political but still bud-laden “Harold & Kumar.” The indie hit “High Society: A Pot Boiler” is the latest pot-com to smoke out the circuit. It’s official folks: stoner comedies are in.
Just ask actor Seth Rogen. Or look at entertainment like “Weeds,” “Hangover” “Clerks,” and director Judd Apatow’s wildly hilarious “Knocked Up,” which made him a super-hero and took any cynics (or lingering D.A.R.E. members) down. Even TIME Magazine couldn’t refute modern audience’s warm reception of the sometimes legal plant and its social status.
The venerable publication said, “Marijuana is more prominent, accepted, and profitable in movies” than ever.
While Disney and some others work to remove tobacco cigarettes from its presence in pictures, filmmakers keep sneaking reefer into movies like they were at an old Grateful Dead concert. Even Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to legalize the dubage in California in order to tax it and help balance the budget.
“High Society” is no exception, with a coveted iTunes distribution deal, blazing reviews, and a smoking hot cast, it’s number one on Will Ferrell’s taste-making, tongue-in-cheek video website Funny or Die.
“High Society” will be showcased at the 4th Annual High Times World Marijuana Film Festival, Friday June 26th at 7pm at Marina Del Rey Hotel.
Screening alongside, “The Union,” “Cash Crop,” and “Strainhunters,” the film is vying for top prize - the coveted Golden Leaf Award. “High Society” stars Erik Davies. Stephanie Ann Davies will introduce the film.
The WMFF is hosted by Jack Herer. Doors open at 2pm. The Union @ 2:30 p.m., Cash Crop @ 4:15 p.m., High Society: A Pot Boiler @ 7:00 p.m., Strainhunters @ 8:45 p.m. Open to the public. Tickets available $25 all-day pass.

The canal I propose, Baja to Brownsville, and straight through Florida, is all part of that. It's the best place on the planet to grow pot/hemp. You'll also notice that my plan calls for the requirement to grow 2 acres of hemp or bamboo per acre of bud. Where do you think that's going? Right back into the economy. Cheaper, renewable, CARBON NEGATIVE alternatives to their petro-shit CARBON INTENSIVE industry.
Now you can take half of the semi's and trains off of the road. Maritime freight on ALL 4 sides of the the most natural resouce intensive continent on the globe. Coast Guard can save lives, instead of cleaning beaches. Access to all the north/south rivers. 1,000,000 new jobs! You also have 30-60 million new tax payers. Trillions of dollars saved in time and deisel = cheaper prices for consumers. Now $100 will get you 3 pairs of sneakers, instead of 1 sneaker. What good is 1 sneaker?
Better construction materials, super insulated homes requiring 0 heating and cooling. It's all out there, you just have to grab it by the balls. Millions of new businesses will be the result. Grow shops, head shops, retail bud shops, compassion centers. 500,000 new farms, 500,000 new homes - IN AMERICA? Then, when you're crop comes in, you build a house, and get some neighbors, soon Walmart, Home Depot, hospitals. IT WILL BE THE SAVING GRACE OF THE ENTIRE GLOBE when America can become self-sustaining and carbon neutral.
All the scraps, all lawn debris, branches, trees, anything Mother Nature grows, can be turned into Ethanol to fuel your farm equipment. It's a wonderful cycle she has built for us, we're just too ignorant to employ it. While Mobil/Exxon makes 1.6 BILLION PER YEAR IN PROFITS.
But instead of "common sense" practices, spelled out by Thomas Paine 300 years ago, "...we need not go abroad for anything", we're convincing 3rd world countries to grow more HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP FOR US, 300 MILLION OBESE DIABETICS. Instead of growing food to feed themselves? Millions will die, mostly the weak and the children, who are now surving by eating MUD! So we can save a penny on a pound of sugar? Why did we bother to take Florida from Spain/Syria and almost nuke Cuba? May as well just give it back.
Moral Majority? OMFG! MONSANTO, CODEX, HR BILL 875, FDA BILATERAL AGREEMENTS ON TRI AND QUADRALATERRALS? CHINA IS GONNA GROW MY FOOD, CANADA WILL SELL US MARINOL, AND MEXICO WILL BUILD OUR CARS? Yah, sign me up for some of that.
Just need SENSI-ble legislators in the White House, instead of them money-hungry elitests that ain't worth the air they breathe. Now you see why I refused to be "educated" by Americans? It's much easier for me to learn what matters to me, than to try and un-learn the shit they shovel. Think Einstein said that too, "don't let an education get in the way of your learning". He dropped out too! It's hard to focus on what matters, while your memorizing all that useless shit they call an "education".
Thomas Paine and Thomas Edison. You don't need much more, except food and pot.
Keep Puffin, don't cage penguins
