Cannabis: Potential Treatment for Skin Disorders?

New research by Polish scientists, Piotr Kupczyk, Adam Reich and Jacek Szepietowski has uncovered a new potential use for medicinal cannabis. Skin disorders are a new focus in the study, “Cannabinoid system in the skin – a possible target for future therapies in dermatology” which was released in May of this year by the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Wroclaw Medical University.

Other research has uncovered the existence of two types of cannabinoid receptors in the body. They are called CB1 and CB2. It is thought that CB1 receptors reside primarily in the central nervous systm. The CB2 receptors are thought to be located in other parts of the body like the immune system, certain organs, and peripheral nerves.

According to Kupczyk, Reich, and Szepietowski, large nerve fiber bundles in the top and deeper layers of skin have been shown to contain CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors were located on nerve fibers in the epidermis and have been located in the inner hair root and hair follicle.

The researchers expressed excitement that cannabinoids might provide future treatment for inflammatory skin disorders, pruritus, and certain types of skin pain, but warn that more research is necessary to gain further insight into the physiology of cannabinoid receptors in the skin. Kupczyk, Reich, and Szepietowski also acknowledge recent observations showing cannabinoids as a potential anti-tumor drug.

Hey I have a blog about the demonization of marijuana and how it should be made into a legal medication please comment and leave insightful reasons behind your thoughts on the medical implications of the ganja. Please leave insightful and comprehensive ideas about why you believe marijuana is a safer and better medication for pain relief etc.... this is a project for a toxicology class and I would like to get the peoples opinion but I have to remove anything that is not appropriate.

I have a history of mental disorders; doctors have tried me on all kinds of meds. Some worked but I couldn't function are made drowsy. When I smoke I feel so much better, I'm able to stay alert, to me I would rather smoke then take the so called pills. It definitely helps my anxiety.

I don't know about thc, but pure hemp oil is very very good for the skin. I've had acne my whole life, and in combination with a cleanser, it's very good. Use a pure, raw, unrefined version of hemp(seed) oil, and apply it to the affected, irritated areas with a cuetip. It takes a while, but it's very refreshing for the skin. Hemp oil has all the essential fatty acids in the exact ratios optimal for humans, and has obviously coevolved with humans over hundreds of thousands of years for this to be the case. Bless!
