Pilot of Plane Loaded with 300 lbs of Pot Gets 5-Year Prison Sentence

A Birmingham, Mich., man who pleaded guilty to landing a plane loaded with nearly 300 pounds of marijuana at a Salina airport was sentenced to 5 years in federal prison.

Aaron Hartwell, 43, pleaded guilty in May to federal charge of possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute it.

Hartwell admitted in his plea that he piloted a Piper PA-46 Turbo aircraft on March 25, 2008, that landed at Salina Municipal Airport, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s office in Kansas.

The Saline County sheriff received a tip that the plane was suspected of carrying narcotics and would be landing at the airport to refuel. When a deputy walked a drug dog around the plane, the dog alerted the officer to the presence of narcotics, according to the release.

Investigators found three black suitcases and a black duffel bag containing marijuana inside the plane as well as more marijuana in a nose compartment of the plane.

Co-defendants include Joe Anthony Martino, who was a passenger on the plane and is scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 1; Elias Gabriel Sais, whose fingerprints were on the packaging of the marijuana and is set for sentencing Oct. 27 and Antonio Inocentes, Jr., who assisted Hartwell in distributing marijuana in Michigan. He was sentenced to 4 years and three months in prison.

Let see another 25,000 to 30,000 a year to keep someone in jail for five years, let see another 150,000.oo dollars to feed and pay his medical bills if any and what ever else he needsAnd guess what its coming from that states taxes to keep him in jail.
We need to rethink this drug war and legalize marijuna and make money instead of loeing it.
Lets get smart on this issue or else we will be a third world country while Latin AMERICA and all these other countries become wealthy. Dont get me wrong other countries need to do whatever they can do to become less independent of the USA.
but we the USA Need to end this forty year old drug and legalize weed for many reasons.
Number1,Lets put tis money back into the states and lets help our own people out for once.
Number2 Set up the treatment centers for the hard core user that realy needs help. Alot of other people just dont care for anyone nowdays and just like the goverment the only one thy care for is themselfs.
Lets just all meet at some large smoke in governt included lite up weed all day, better than that a whole weekend and every one just chill out. ha ha.
